Audio quality on Lollipop - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Has anybody noticed degraded audio quality with any of the lollipop roms?
I have a Bluetooth car stereo with a subwoofer and on KitKat (ARHD) it sounded sweet but seems to sound awful on Lollipop.
I've tried ARHD and I'm not on Leedroid and the H/K audio mod has helped but it still sounds poor.
Thanks.

Yes, I noticed. Completely stock though, unrooted and all. Haven't tried blootooth yet, but sinply calling from my office is way worse - it takes longer to connect, quality is poor, disconnecys often. Lollipop is bad any way I look at it.

Hey uniflex_
I'm hoping this gets sorted, I wish I hadn't upgraded now.
Can I go back to KitKat? I'm wondering as I've flashed the updated FW.
Thanks

The way I understand it (and I'm sure there are many more experienced people here who can correct me), one has to root the phone, gain S-off, find the RUU on this forum (or elsewhere), and use it to install KitKat. I'm not sure this will bring the phone back to how it was before the update, so for now I'm trying to work with the seller - I bought the phone less that 6 month ago, which means I can simply exchange it. The question is, whether they have any of the KitKat phones left.

Hi
I'm sure the audio issues are probably caused by the FW as opposed to the OS - maybe somebody else could verify this?
I'd imagine this will be fixed shortly but you should still find a kitkat one. I would go back but I'm too scared to flash via RUU. Just seems like something that would go wrong for me lol.

I had similar problem with audio although the camera took noisier photos just converted to gpe 5.0.1 .everything is working good so its definitely a fw problem not 5.0.1

Control volume of the Mic

Where can you control the volume of the mic on the TP2 ?
My phone is completely mute (I can hear people but they don't hear me)and though I suspect a Hardware defect (I flashed 2 ROMs and have the same problem) but I would like to play with the microphone settings just in case...
I know when I ran across that problem on the Kaiser ROMs I flashed, it was usually due to an incompatible radio. Try a different radio than the one you're using. It took me several times to find a good radio for a couple of the more Popular ROMs.
One thing I've noticed is ROM flashes can be a real trial and error process to get a good mix of speed, functionality and battery life between the ROM and Radio.
Just my $.02 on the subject...
mmh maybe... But I didnt flash anyhting new, the issue on the Mic happened overnight on a ROM I have had for already quite a while
Anyway: anybody can explain me where I can control the microphone sound level ?
I tried flashing a new Radio. The sound worked once for one call
And then doing a second call --> not working anymore
Seems that if I take off my SIM card and put it back it also works for one call and then fails again. That is very weird. Could be a hardware issue but I ma surprised it works at least once
I flashed different ROMs and radios and still have the issue (Anyway the problem occured while I had been on the same ROM for already a while so I would have been surprised if it came from it)
I start to be tired with HTC's quality... It's not the first time an HTC dies on me (That said it's probably the smae with otehr phoen makers, many of my friends had to ahve their iPhone replaced)
Aaahh it's going to take Expansys 2 months again before I can have a phone
Anybody with similar problems ?
Must be the mic
A bluetooth headset works...

[Q] Clear, un-garbled Bluetooth phone calls ?

Can anyone recommend a ROM where the in-call audio through Bluetooth connection is clear like it was before they rooted their HTC1? I really love my current ROM, and really most of the ROMs I've been using for the last year or so, but my customers are always complaining that they can't hear me or that I'm garbled and breaking up. I spend 80% of my work time in the car and need a better solution.
I don't care if it's Sense based or GPE or what.
Most sense or gpe roms available for this device, Bluetooth works just fine.
The part you need to be sure you did, was to update your firmware.
Using old firmware is the number one reason for in call audio issues, whether speaker or Bluetooth.
I can say with certainty, that it works on all my sense and gpe roms.

[Q] Sound + Root Issues on Z1C

Hey folks,
So I have a problem with my Sony Xperia Z1C (D5503), and would appreciate some input on my theories as to how to fix it, at which I have yet to be successful.
I live in China, and I bought my lovely device on Taobao a few months back for a very discounted price (risky, of course, and to be certain this is where the issues stem from). I purchased the Hong Kong version instead of the Chinese version, because the Chinese version is built to block Google Play by default and comes with a bunch of junk apps. Anyway, I was stupid and didn't get a chance to use it before the seller's 7-day return policy was up, so it was too late for a return after I found out about its issue.
The issue is this: when I receive a call, the caller cannot hear my voice. Not that it's completely silent, it's just muffled and quiet. I've tried various things, turning on and off the Microphone Noise Suppression option, adjusting the caller's sound options, but nothing; it seems there's a defect with the microphone. When I switch to speakerphone during a call, however, there are no problems. On a related note, the same thing is true when I use apps like Skype and particularly WeChat: if I send someone a voice message, they can barely hear me. Only when I use a headset are there no problems. So, to continue using this phone, I've succumbed to bringing my headphones around with me and plug them in when I receive calls or have to send a voice message.
So the microphone's screwy? Interestingly, when I record with other apps, like the Sound Recorder app, there are no problems. It picks everything up perfectly. It must be recording on "speakerphone" for this app, if that makes sense; right?
Anyway, I was wondering (hoping) if the kernel loaded on my phone has anything to do with it. It's the stock kernel but one that seems to be used more for the Xperia Z1. Since I'm mentioning it, here are all the specs:
Model: D5503
Android Version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270054-61
Kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-gaee6e5a [email protected] #1 Thu Oct 9 09:14:33 2014
Build Number: 14.4.A.0.157
Anyway, I still have this hope that the problem is fixable. I am inclined to wait for the rollout of Lollipop for the Z1C, but that could be months, and this has been going on long enough as it is.
I'd appreciate any input, especially if you think I'm on (or not on) the right track thinking that flashing a new kernel may make a difference, assuming it is a conflict with the firmware. Or, perhaps I should just accept that I was sold a defective product for a decent price (I mean, everything else is working OK...).
Should also add, running the service diagnostic test for both primary and secondary microphones provides clear, audible results.
A few additional details, that may be of interest: my phone is rooted, with SuperSU as the app. The stock version of the app is a system app, but when I update the app, it loses its system app status and also does not successfully update the binary. I couldn't install busybox for the longest time but was finally able to do so through the advanced root options FlashTool. This is interesting, I think. Also, there is no recovery mode.
Thanks for your time!

Looking at the Sony forums there are a lot of complaints about muffled calls and poor microphone on voice calls, with no comment from any Sony moderators, which isn't a good sign.
One suggestion was to turn off the "Microphone noise suppression" option in call settings. Another was to not have the call on speakerphone.
Someone else suggested editing build prop, which if you've got a rooted phone should be easy.
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall : false
I think this turns the audio post processing off.
You should get recovery working, try installing the latest recovery from NUTs dev page, this installs from your PC. This will help you get a working SuperSU as it will restart in recovery mode.
The file you are looking for is called
Z1C-lockeddualrecovery2.8.2-RELEASE.installer.zip
Once you have recovery you could do a nandroid backup and experiment with a factory reset.
If all that fails, it looks like it's a problem limited to Sony stock builds, so it might be worth experimenting putting a CM rom on your phone. Obviously read up on how to do this properly, and make a copy of your TA partition so you can back to stock if you change your mind.
This page is a good place to start.

Disable Certain Mics on ANY ROM?

Everyone here probably has an old HTC One they develop on because the Mic was broken which basically ruins the purpose of the "Phone" part of it.
I might try this if no one can help, but there are .zips you can use to disable noise cancellation, but it will only work on 4.2.2 Sense ROMs, Or 4.2 and 4.3 Stock Android ROMs. As of now, I am running the 5.0.1 GPE ROM and I am loving every bit of it. But how can I disable the "Main Mic"?
(By main mic, I mean when I tested both Mics with the diagnostic tool, I got the same old static and sound of data being torn up limb to limb , but the secondary mic works fine. And so does the speakerphone, but video recording and voice commands don't. If there is any help you guys have, ill appreciate it. But if my only option is to try Sense 5.5 (V. 4.2.2) , Than I have no problem trying it.
Thank you all for attempting to help, you guys are all awesome!!

After flashing custom rom, my Motorola One Action has bluetooth problems

Hello everyone, hope all is well today. Here is my issue, anytime I flash a custom rom to my Motorola One Action (XT2013-4) everything will work fine, except for my Bluetooth. While, it will connect, when trying to play music via Bluetooth via my portable Bluetooth speaker and my Samsung Galaxy Buds + earbuds, the only sound I will get is either a god awful static like noise or silence and the track will act like it is buffering within the Pandora app. I've tried a couple Magisk modules with no luck. I am usually pretty good at figuring stuff like this out, but this one has me stumped, which causes me to get annoyed and revert back to the stock rom with root, but I'd really like to upgrade to a version of 11.
If anyone can help me out with a fix, I'd be forever grateful,
Thank yall and have a great day.

Try changing the BT options on dev options, never happened to me but it may help.
