Hey there!
Did someone use the encryption which is accessible in the settings?
If yes...:
Does ist affect performance?
Which partitions are encrypted?
Does internal / external sd get encrypted too?
Did you notice any disadvanteges?
Thank you for your opinions!!

Yes,
It Doesn't Affect performance
Whole device is encrypted.
Yes, External Optional which is not suggested
Yes Screen PIN should always be there. so you cant use other lockscreen and Literally No point in it as just a firmware flash or repair from PCC will reset the same. Hence only protects your phone data in the case of lose or theft of phone. which you can do remotely as well.

So I tried Zenfone 2's security encryption feature, its almost 3 hours now and its still loading (That little ball of circle revolving).
My questions are:
Does it usually take THAT long?
Can I remove the encryption easily without formatting/ erasing my storage? As I saw over the internet that I had to format/ erase my storage for me to remove the encryption? Is there a way to easily remove it without erasing my storage?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
When I encrypted the storage it took only a few minutes, but that was when I hadn't copied any data onto the internal storage. Do you have a lot of data copied to your internal storage ?
As for removing encryption, no it's not possible without a full erase. You need to factory reset your phone from the settings menu.
I encrypted my phone again today after a reset... completed in just 3 minutes.

I had the same experience. I considered that the encryption tool was getting hung up on something it was not expecting. I had moved most of my apps and data to my SD card to keep the system drive free space large and fast. So I moved all the apps back to the system drive and re-launched the encryption tool. It worked and completed in about 6 minutes. Encrypting your system drive data is a good thing. There is not an option to remove the encryption from the system drive. If there is data you wish to store on your ZF2 but do not wish to access protect with encryption, store it on your SD card.
I have put my mobile for encryption and it is almost 3 hrs, and still i don't see any other thing except the loading screen. Is there a way i can stop the encryption thing. And if so, what will happen to the system(mobile) and its data
Hi guys, I have been on Lollipop for very long. Marshmallow is here but i have doubts before installing Marshmallow. I have setup my friend's phone after upgrading to Marshmallow. There is an option at the beginning to choose to setup SD Card. Use as a portable storage or Use as internal storage. I chose Use as a portable storage and it is working fine but while trying to download something it does not work. For example, tried to download facebook picture but got some error. While using it as internal storage, it will format data first (which could be backed up). If i use it as internal storage and phone has issues and needs to be formatted without backup, i will loose all the data. Suggest me something guys.

I think it might be a bad flash. What ROM are you using? Nameless or OMNI?

I'm talking about the download problem. Cuz, I can download just fine on marshmallow ROMs, even after choosing the first option.

have you checked the permissions for the app? Should enable access to "storage".
Hi XDA,
I'm struggeling with my SD-Card after moving to lineage 14.1 (Coming from CM 13).
Installation worked just fine, but now i can not access my SD-Card from the phone and even not from PC (over the phone). I mounted it as an internal drive on CM to extend my storage.
The System recognizes the Card, but only gives me the options to format the Card and use it as internal storage or format and use it as an external storage.
Could it be, that the Card cannot be used, because it was formated as an internal storage under CM 13?
If anybody has an Idea, how i get access to the files please tell me

I think you can't do anything now..
Only formatting it via PC(using command prompt..)

In the past while i was having a Moto G3,i got it to Marshmallow, made the SD card Internal like and about a month i got it stolen. But the good point was that i had removed the SD card.
Checked Google nothing useful.
Asked Motorola for any decryption tips,Nothing useful from Motorola.
And i couldn't stay with a encrypted SD card.. I formatted it(after making the "big choice" and it was back to factory stats..)
But the only thing that i didn't do,is that i didn't ask Google for support. Because Motorola makes pure stock Android but with some of Motorola apps and features.
As you was in AOSP based ROM (even if you was to LG's stock,Google could help) go ask Google gently for any solution(if you had important files, then surely they will help)
haha i had the same problem but the solution is very very easy just reboot into your recovery open recovery file manager and delete Android secure folder in your SD card.
thats all you need

Deleting "Android Secure" folder (there is no such a folder even in hidden files) won't do anything.
Also a thing that you should learn.(Because it seems you don't)
When your SD card is formated as internal you can't access it via TWRP a PC or even an other phone.
Because it gets encrypted.
Have a nice day.

Yea, i did not know that. If i had, i would have made an SD Backup
But I still have not formated the SD Card, I am still hoping :fingers-crossed:

It cant be undone. Sorry to say. I learned this the hard way also. When you put it in lineage, you remember it asking about how you wanted to format it (movable or integrated)
You chose integrated mode. That encrypted it and counted it as device storage. No unencrypting it. Also if you blew away that lineage install, its totally not able to be read anymore. It stored the only decrypt key in the lineageOS keystore.
sad times.

Ah yes u right but you can access it as internal. Recvery will ecognise it anyways and you can delete this folder...
Btw this worked for me i had the same problem. And NO there is the folder named "Android secure" definition-- Android.secure is the folder where stock froyo android moves apps to the sd card by default. If you don't use the apps presently, you can safely remove the corresponding app files from the android.secure folder.
Has anyone else noticed that what the system calls 'internal', is actually external storage? And vice-versa? Any way to fix this?
Also is there any way to encrypt external and hopefully internal storage after installing Pantheon? Haqxors (and travellers) want to know...
And finally, is there some way to stop that embarrassing "HELLLO MOTO!!" on boot?

I don't see the issue with Storage names, what happens if you remove the sdcard?
For boot sound, go to Setting >>Sound >>Advanced and disable "Power on Sound"
I've now removed the SD and reinserted it (of course while the phone was off), and on boot the internal and SD storage are still reversed. Where it shows how much space is used it is correct, but actually looking at the files the storage is reversed, both in the X-Plore File Manager, and Root Browser.
So it's a mystery about this reversal...
And encryption, which I can't do without.

Flash the correct flashall for your device (if you're on Oreo, don't flash any in the linked thread). After that you can get encryption to work again. You can downgrade on Nougat, just be sure to take OTA to update back. Oreo down to nougat isn't currently possible.

I did flashall Nugat. Formatted storage as instructed. But this is what I have.
Hi there,
I received my 5X recently that replaced my previous SGS5+ as daily driver.
It's a nice device too with lots of support, as it seems.
However, as I always used to have my data stored on SD cards, I wonder if I can replace or reset my currently in use ROM without to lose things such as music or downloaded files?
Tried MaruOS because I am interested in the concept but neither Casting or the camera seem to work.
Perhaps someone can help out :silly:
Kind regards
The user data (names "external storage" in TWRP I think) will not be wiped, only partitions data, cache boot and system must be wiped when switching ROMs.
Ahh, so I am safe when resetting my phone or switching ROMs again!
Thank you

Your internal SD and external SD storage should be safe, but you never know. I always backup both to my PC before doing any update or upgrade. That's just common sense. And of course a full TWRP backup of your ROM before doing the same.
