Hi guys, I can't update my stock AT&T m8. The ota software update isn't showing up at all. I unlocked the phone with a code I bought online Since Iam no longer using an AT&T sim. I switched to lycamobile. is that the reason I can't see the update? Is there anywhere I can download the ota file? I don't want to root my phone.

Yes and no.
Its correct that you will not receive updates for the AT&T version M8 if you aren't on AT&T's network. Some folks here may disagree, that aren't familiar with AT&T (most HTC phones will usually update fine OTA regardless of network). But AT&T is the oddball, you have to be connected to their network, or no OTA.
The other thing is, that the AT&T version hasn't updated to Lollipop yet, and no release date given (but hopefully soon). So even if you were connected to AT&T's network, you wouldn't be able to update to LP.
The latest official software for the AT&T version is Android 4.4.4. If you aren't on that version, you can download the RUU and update with it. Then wait for LP to release as RUU. RUUs are linked in my AT&T specific Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
Your other option is to mod the phone and s-off in order to install LP firmware and run a stock or custom LP ROM. Or fully convert the phone to another carrier version (change CID).

Its up to you to make that decision. LP release on AT&T is rumored by a decently reliable source to be "soon", but who knows what that means?
My personal opinion, there is absolutely no good reason to be on AT&T stock software if you aren't even on their network or in the US. Personally, I can't stand AT&T's bloatware and gimped features (you may notice that WiFi tethering is disabled). So converting to another (stock) version to me is highly preferable (or running a custom ROM for that matter).
Not sure what region or country you are in, but you may consider converting to Euro or "international" version (which would still be "stock" just stock international unbranded instead of AT&T). Not only will you get rid of AT&T software branding, but once you fully convert, you will also be able to get OTA updates. Plus, international M8 gets updated much earlier than AT&T.
To "convert", you need to s-off and change CID and MID. From there, you can convert your phone to any other version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/change-wwe-m8-to-dev-edition-ota-t2826567
Honestly I agree with you. Is there way I can convert to the international version or preferably Google edition without all my files being deleted? btw Iam in the United states. And can you guide me on the process? Thanks

Not that I am aware. Your best bet is to backup your data, then restore it (as appropriate) after you convert. Which you should absolutely do anyway, before undertaking any such major mods. Even if they were supposed to "keep" user data, as nothing is ever a "sure thing" and its always best to back up and avoid regret.
There are different methods to backup, and it also depends on exactly what data you want to keep. I personally have my contacts on Gmail, and don't use any other email on my phone aside from Gmail (so my contacts and Gmail are all just on the cloud). So for me, its mostly just app data that I want to backup, so I use Titanium Backup for that purpose. You can also use Titanium to backup and restore your SMS and call log; at least between Sense ROMs (don't know if this will migrate to GPE). Don't use Titanium to migrate any system data (will often cause bugs if you are moving between any ROMs that are significantly different). I just customize system settings manually after ROM flash, etc. Don't know what other files you may want to keep. If its just media (songs, pics, video) you can just copy those to your computer or removable SD as means of backup. Or there are a variety of cloud options you can use to backup pics and other files.

I purchased a used, unlocked HTC One M8. I rooted it and, if I understand correctly, can't receive OTA updates due to having TWRP installed.
I would like to know if installing the "Unlocked/Developer" ROM (4.16.1540.8) would work with my phone since it is unlocked.

Yes. There are instructions posted for doing precisely. As a bonus, AT&T phones only require a CID change, as the Developer Edition and AT&T phones share the same MID (model ID) I converted my AT&T M8 to the Developer Edition less than 24 hours after getting it, and I've never looked back.
However, the underlying problem will still be the same. TWRP can't install HTC OTA updates, and all Lollipop updates check for an unmodified /system, so OTA updates still won't work on the DevEd ROM if you run a different recover or root.
The phone is the AT&T version? Are you on a network that is not AT&T?
Hi everyone!
I am trying to upgrade my unlocked s-off and rooted m8 to Marshmallow and still keep root. I have been searching like crazy but its a little confusing since its a Verizon phone.
What I want to do is flash a debloated stockish Marshmallow rom with sense 7. I want to get rid of everything and anything related to Verizon and other unnecessary 3rd party bloat from the phone. I also want to be able to freely take my phone to other carriers without a problem.
My current configuration:
Android: 5.0.1 (Stock VZW)
HTC Sense 6
Recovery: twrp-3.0.0-1-m8
Root: SuperSU v2.65
S-off
(this is as far as I have gotten)
I have been out of the scene for about a year now since my employer issued me an iPhone(had no choice :/) so a good point in the right direction would be really helpful. Looking for good rom suggestion (do I need to stick to verizon roms) and directions to update to Marshmallow and keep root.
Just flash a custom ROM that specifically supports Verizon version M8 ("international" ROMs won't work on VZN version, due to kernel differences).
Custom ROMs are pre-rooted by definition, so you will still have root. And you will be rid of VZN branding and bloat. Its a "win" all around.
You may want to update your firmware (hboot, radio, etc) to Marshmallow for best compatibility. But from what I've seen, MM ROMs appear to work fine on LP firmware. VZN firmware thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/vzw-m8-master-ruu-firmware-collection-t2946473

I ended up getting impatient and just downloaded and flashed the OTA update through HTC Sync Manager, then flahed TWRP and SuperSU. So now I am running fully stock Verizon Marshmallow rom with root permissions and TWRP recovery. I will look around for a sense 7 debloated rom running the latest firmware to flash. I haven't had much luck yet.
Thanks

Applying the OTA is another perfectly valid way to update the firmware.
Although an OTA is not supposed to work with rooted software. Did you return to stock unrooted ROM to OTA?

You mean a debloated ROM based on the latest VZN software? The VZN MM ROM is very new, and dev support for the M8 in general is dropping off, so yes there isn't much yet.
But international based ROMs will work, as long as they specify that they support the VZN M8. The "latest" VZN software is not necessarily better; especially if you are looking to debrand and debloat.
Is it possible to flash a unlocked rom to a Tmobile version of the HTC 10? I've seen this done with SAmsung S7edge carrier to unlocked anf it worked. Guy said he hasnt had issues and this was on XDA.

Sure can, just pick a ROM that support multi-carrier, such as Viper, Leedroid, ICE.
When you flash the ROM, in aroma you will be presented with an option to choose carrier, pick Tmobile and good to go. :good:

To fully convert your device to us unlocked, you will need to s-off, using the paid sunshine app ($25). This is the only way you will be able to flash the US unlocked firmware. If you want to try keeping your tmo firmware and just try to use the US unlocked ROM, your best bet is to download a US unlocked backup and restore it with TWRP.
Stock backups are in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/stock-stock-collection-recovery-ruu-ota-t3359297
There isn't a 1.91 backup available yet, though. 1.80 is the best you can do.
So after I do this will it think my phone has beem untouched and allow for OTA? The person I spoke with about his Galaxy S7 he flashed the unlocked rom to from carrier says everything works as it was factory unlocked phone even samsung pay. I am hoping to do the same for my HTC
For instance direct firmware from HTC
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-10/news/
Hopefully it displays right but it has the direct download for the 1.91.617.1 or whatever the Unlocked one is. How would I flash this do my device amd make it think it's all factory to receive OTA updates still?

To use that file, you need to fully convert, which means using sunshine to s-off, then changing your cid and mid to match the us unlocked. Then you will have a fully functioning us unlocked device.
If you just want the US unlocked rom, then just restore a stock us unlocked backup in twrp. This will be mostly fully functioning, but you will still be in T-Mobile firmware (shouldn't be a problem as long as your on the newest T-Mobile firmware already) and you won't be able to get ota.

To use an RUU (ROM Update Utility) from HTC's website, you either have to use the one for your specific device OR you have to convert your device by using sunshine to s-off ($25) and changing your model id (probably not necessary as I'm 99% sure that TMO and US Unlocked use the same mid) and carrier id (definitely necessary) to match the RUU you want to flash.
Also, just for your education, I know Samsung people call everything firmware, but technically that's incorrect and in the HTC world, firmware refers to the actual firmware (like bootloader, modem, radio, etc) and ROM, or system, refers to the system files (like android framework, apps, system ui, etc).
There is a thread in the Guide section that details using Sunshine to S-Off.
And see post #3 in this thread about converting a device to WWE (World Wide Edition) using RUU. The steps to convert to US Unlocked are identical EXCEPT for the following:
Step 7:
CID for US Unlocked is BS_US001
MID for US Unlocked is 2PS650000
Step 8:
Get the US Unlocked RUU.zip from here
Once you do that, you will have a 100% fully functioning US Unlocked device. The only difference from a factory provided US Unlocked device will be the text on the rear housing.
Thank you all for helping I've only flased a few times and it still is complicated to me.

No problem. Can I ask what you would like to accomplish with the US Unlocked rom as opposed to T-Mobile? Just debloat?
I'm worried Tmobile has abandoned the 10. They don't list it online, most stores do not have stock anymore, and the ones that do have few left due to initial shipment. New roms have been out and Tmobile has yet to keep it updated, software only has a few added apps other than that unlocked vs Tmobile roms are the same. Both Roms support VoLTE, Band 12, and Wi-Fi calling. I want faster updates. I love my HTC 10 except it has a few bugs in radios i.e. wifi and LTE. I have no clue if Tmobile will continue to support it, they claim they will but have yet to update the device.

I hear you. Then you need to do the full conversion to accomplish that. Just follow the guide I linked to exactly and if you don't understand something, just ask before doing anything. It's not really novice level, but it's hardly rocket science and everything is pretty well laid out in writing. Good luck
I followed the s-off step, changed my cid, used HTCs RUU and flashed it. It's starting up now.
What does this mean? Cause I'm S-off? How do I S-on? I flashed by being s-off but locked should i have been unlocked?
Is this a good sign?

That's normal. Looks good. The Sunshine guys suggest locked is preferred.
Don't play around with going s-on until you need to return the phone or sell it. It's not necessary and if you don't do something right can brick the phone.
Anyone with a unlocked US HTC 10 is it typical for it to ask which carrier after inserting sum. Restarting?
Hello,
I updated my HTC One M8 first time since I first buy the phone. My Original ROM was 4.4.2 and I updated to 4.4.4 (OTA update ATT). I rooted phone and did S-OFF. But recently I changed ROM back to 4.4.2 using hard reset and install back very first original factory ATT Rom (4.4.2). Now when try to update my ROM through ATT OTA, it gives me message to "Wait (24 Hrs)" I already wait for 4 days, clicking back on Software Update. Also my MMS service is not working ( My MMS service was working before with both 4.4.2 and 4.4.4).
My questions is " Is there anything which I have to wipe or clear to make it completely fresh like brand new first time OS ?"
Thank you so much for reading my post!
Since you have an AT&T branded M8, and are S-off, you can just use a RUU to switch versions. No need to take an OTA (other than to preserve data, but it sounds like that isn't an issue if you have already downgraded)
The most recent is here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html
Older versions are available, but I don't have a direct link for them.

So I have an unlocked HTC 10. a while back I managed to do all the good stuff to make it work with Verizon. I don't remember all of the things I did, but safe to say the needed things for it work on Verizon through the #*#*4636*#*# menu. Fast forward a year later, I'm still on 6.0.1 and I would like to know how I can go to the latest and greatest update from Android while being able to connect to the Verizon signal. I haven't kept up with anything from here so pardon my lack of knowledge.

So you must be s-off in that case and you simply flashed the Verizon radios, right?
You can probably update your unlocked 10 to the latest software, and then redo the steps you originally did to get it to work on verizon.
To update:
If you were never rooted and didn't ever modify your system partition, make sure you have stock recovery and take the OTA update.
If you are rooted, but have an untouched system backup on hand, restore it as well as stock recovery and then take the OTA.
If you are rooted with no backup, or if the above options fail, the easiest and cleanest way is to backup your phone contents and run the latest Nougat ruu which will bring you to fully stock and updated.
Other option, since you're s-off, is to flash the OTA "manually" with twrp and through fastboot. Look for instructions in the twrp thread faq.

No. To convert US Unlocked to VZW we had to manually set the CID and then run the Verizon RUU. If we flash the latest N RUU, I don't think that'll work on VZW. Last I checked (which was last fall TBH) VZW was on a different and older branch than the Unlocked latest head codeline. We should be able to run the latest VZQ RUU assuming someone has made one. I'm also looking for this. I'll update this post if I find it.

Where does the OP say he converted to VZW variant?
There are two ways to get unlocked to work on VZW, one is to flash just the modem and the other is a full Vzw conversion. Based on the fact he states he had to go into the secret menu, my guess is that it was the former which is why I asked....
FYI latest vzw ruu can be found on the Verizon HTC 10 forums.

Interesting, didn't know you could get VZW to work without the full conversion. That was the route I went, and despite it, my phone still shows up on Verzion as a 'Non Verizon Device' (Everything works though). Thanks for the link to the RUU though!
