No Pc, no root.

If you're on 4.4.2 or 4.3 firmware you can use towelroot
OK I'm getting a replacement due to call audio bug? Should I hold off on updating for towel root and any ways past the call audio bug?
After the pc use Chainfire's Cf autoroot, towelroot will not work with kitkat.

Not sure what audio bug you mean, but your replacement will likely be updated to 4.4.4 and will only be able to root it with cf-auto-root

Yes it will, not will all versions, but with NB4 it will
Why bother with towelroot when CF will work on all versions.

My first one shipped with 4.4.2 maybe I'll get lucky and it be easy but thanks everyone

Would someone explain some more information about towelroot - is it a Google Play Store app?
It's not a play store app, it's a program that was designed to root like chainfire's Cf autoroot.
I would always use cf auto root to root it will work on jelly bean, kitkat or lollipop.

Im new to all this so I rooted my Samsung SCH-S960L with a friend and i guess we did something wrong along the way.
The root worked fine, I then wanted to place a rom on it so we used rom manager and got CyanogenMod as it looked like the most popular and safest one. The problem is that it now says my phone is metro pc and the model number is SCH-R530M and I dont have a google play store (could not get it to download). I Just want to figure out how to get it back to normal and its hard to find many forms for sch-S960l or SCH-R530M
If you downloaded a CM rom you also need to flash gapps package. The google apps are not allowed to be used with those types of rom, or built into them because google apps are proprietary and cm is not licensed to use them in the rom. So you have to find and download the appropriate gapps package then you will have play store and other essential google apps.
Somewhat ambitious to jump right to that instead of playing with some TW roms first.

It seems like you flashed a CM built for a different device. Not all SGS3's are the same!!
Another possibility is that you need to update your APNs. There is a flashable universal APN fix for Boost S3 (I'm on Boost), so it couldn't hurt to check around and see if there is one for your carrier.

there will be a root method that will always work for your specific S3....that being said i have noticed that even in the SIII L710 one root method never works 100% of the time for every one hence why there are a couple of way to do so.......now if you look at my device history you can see i have been rooting different ones and each one except for my s3 could be rooted with Kingro Root.....and i used Towel Root to root my S3 the first Time around its an app the works on basically every phone but i had to manually install SuperSU and Busy Box from the play store this method should work on your phone especially if your on 4.4.2

i personally don't know if it will work/harm on JB since when i used it my S3 had already been updated to KK and SuperSU will help regulate what apps have root access by giving you a prompt when a app asks for root access and SuperSU also updates your "Root/SU Binary" so it's on the latest one and Busy Box will also ask SuperSU for root access and will install Busybox 1.22.1 which allows you to use some other root apps like Viper4Andriod

I can't even believe I'm participating in this rediculous quote reply in a thread that is already in the wrong forum. Im not saying the toolkit is hard but are you just plain mental? have you seen how easy it is to root with towelroot? Ive yet to see an easier root method.
If I root with the toolkit, do the binary counter or something else that count, doesn't count?

ok the only reason you would ask that is because of keeping a warranty. so what I do is if you want to root/custom rom/binary then use twrp and back up all your custom mods and tweaks and all other apps (before using odin FLASH STACK ROM WILL WIPE ALL DATA(should include binary))then use odin and flash the stock rom, for me that worked. now i dont know a device u have so it might be different. odin might have an option to reset flash counter.

The Tab 3 Firmware doesn't include Knox, does it?
I have tried to root a Tab 3 8.0 WiFi SM-T310 and I can't root it with towelroot. It reboots every time when I click on "make it ra1n".
So why can't towelroot root it?
I didn't see a Knox icon, but supersu detected and disabled it, and I kept getting the shield icon in my notifications panel.
Root is a helluva drug.....

I think I know why towelroot won't root my 8" tab, because the German-Version (DBT) have got a Exynos CPU.
If the developer geohot starts to support the exynos series would be great..

Here's the issue I'm having, that thread linked says it will flash a pre-rooted NJ1 rom - ok fine... But as far as I can tell, no one has specifically said they have flashed his pre-rooted rom on top of a stock NJ1 rom. They've all upgraded to NJ1 from NE# using his method.
Obviously the NJ1 'upgrade' was at least in part an attempt to prevent rooting, and I'm not experienced enough to unbrick (or effectively undo) whatever may happen in a botched attempt.
I'm assuming once you're on NJ1 stock rom, rooting is not possible?
