[HOWTO] Root + TWRP WIND Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V running 4.4.2 (M919VVLUFNE1) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello fellow Canadians WINDmobilers
Like many of you I've found all the previous guides to be outdated and obsolete, so this is an updated guide for the latest stock ROM with base-band M919VVLUFNE1 and future kitkat updates (we'll probably need a new guide when AOS 5.0 rolls out)
That being said, lets gets things rolling:
WARNING! rooting your phone can void your warranty, do so at your own risk.
NOTE: These instructions below assumes you have a brand new phone just out of the box, all settings on default.
If the default settings have been altered, please make sure you have the Ractivation Lock (Turned Off) in your phone Settings > General > Security or you will get a FAIL! message in Odin.
Download Kies (for the Drivers) from here http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
If you don't use Kies just uninstall it as soon as the Kies install is complete.
During Kies uninstall it'll ask you if you want to keep the drivers, say yes to keep drivers.
Very Important! for Chainfire's rooting method to work, you must flash this tar via Odin, before you flash TWRP recovery, else it might Fail!
Quick Root Steps:
- Download ChainFire's CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.zip here from his website
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-jfltecan-jfltevl-sghi337m.tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, you can also do this by running adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot (like 5 seconds)
- Done
Quick TWRP Steps:
- Important! make sure you Download the latest TWRP version 2.8.4.0 (or newer) for jfltecan models from TeamWin's website here
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin
- Click the PDA button, and select openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-jfltecan.tar (latest version as of the time of this writing)
- Done

Miscellaneous Notes
Does it trigger KNOX?
AFAIK, I flashed it exactly as shown above, and it did not trigger KNOX.
Apparently I wasn't looking properly. It does trip the KNOX warranty counter. the text remains white instead of turning red.
Thanks to elvasoshexai for the heads up.
Hint for finding support for our Canadian phones:
Whenever you look for rooting a new phone but unsure about compatibility, always look at its code name, in our case jfltecan is for both SGH-M919V (Wind/Mobilicity) and SGH-I337M (Bell/Telus/Rogers) that's the key, for reference; crespo was for Nexus S, and hltecan was for Galaxy Notes 3; you get the idea...
You can find more references at Cyanogenmod ROM pages.

thanks, this worked. but it did trip knox. my knox warranty counter now says 0x1

it should be in your phone Settings > General > Security
and scroll down mid way.
by default this option should be Off, but some Apps like the KNOX can activate it

Use Saferoot to avoid tripping Knox:

[PROGRAM] One Click Root / UnRoot / All Models for (Mac and PC)

Team,
This One-Click Root process will copy over the rooted-update.zip or unroot-update.zip file then reboot your phone. Follow the instructions in the CMD prompt that launches.
I have another thread for the I9000 only! It is for rooting 2.1 ans 2.2 JP2. I added this thread because I9000M users don't have a forum yet. This app will work will all released Galaxy S phones for 2.1 stock only!!
Credits:
LeshaK at Samdroid: for the original rooted-update.zip.
gunnarhafdal : for creating the Mac GUI for my app.
This has been tested on stock Android 2.1 Eclair only. If you rooted using another process you can use this process to unroot as long as you didnt load a rom that created links to busybox.
For the following models:
GT-I9000
Captivate SHG-I897
Vibrant SGH-959
GT-I9000M
Epic SPH-D700 (Untested but should work like other phones. Post with your results. This is harmless it will either work or it wont. It copies over 3 files to your existing build.)
Rooting adds the following to your system and unrooting removes them:
/system/xbin/busybox (version 1.17.1)
/system/xbin/su
/system/app/Superuser.apk (version 2.3.1)
and links /system/bin/su to /system/xbin/su
More will follow as they are released. PM me to add your Galaxy S Model.
Warning: I am not responsible for bricked phones, rooting can void your warranty....

Requirements: Install Link: Dot Net Framework version 4
Rooting Instructions:
1. Make sure your phone is on USB Debug mode: (MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked )
2. For Windows x86 and x64 systems make sure that the Samsung Drivers are installed. You can get them here.
3. Extract the contents of GalaxyS_Vibrant_One-Click_Root.rar to a folder.
4. Connect your phone to your PC via the USB cable and launch the file "T-Mobile Vibrant One-Click Root.exe" file.
5. Click the "One-Click Root" button. This will launch a command shell follow the instructions in the CMD window.
Mac Instructions:
Download the app: here, mirror.
It requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.
Root 2.2 button does not do anything right now.
Rooting Instructions:
1. Make sure your phone is on USB Debug mode: (MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked )
2. Connect the phone to your computer.
3. Eject both the internal and external SD card from your computer and turn off USB storage in the notification area.
4. Click one of the buttons depending on what you want to do.
5. After the phone has rebooted into recovery select "apply sdcard:update.zip" for I9000 and I9000M and choose "Reinstall Packages" for the US models using the volume keys and then press the home button for I9000 and I9000M and the power button on the right top side for US models to start the process.

Done! You are rooted.
=====================================================================
Un-Rooting Instructions:
To Un-Root follow the same instructions except click on the Un-root button. If you rooted using another process you can use this process to un-root as long as you didnt load a rom that created links to busybox. I would suggest to restore you phone back to stock ROM before even needing to unroot and if you are on stock un-root all you want otherwise what is the point of un-rooting.

[Q] Samsung Apps Problem

Hello guys,
This is my problem: When I open Samsung Apps at my phone, it gives to loading screen and after that it crashes, it just goes back to the home screen.
I think this is because I updated Samung Apps at a 3G network, but the connection was lost, so it didn't finish the update...
I just dit a factory reset, but it still crashes...
And when I open Kies, it says there is an update for Samsung Apps. But when I click on `update` it says that the latest version is already installed.
Is there a way to reset samsung apps? To remove and re install it?
Much thanks, Thijmen.
Im having same problem. I recently updated my phone's firmware to Bada 2.0. Straight away i tried to go to Samsung apps, but it shouted it needed to be updates. Well, update it is... My phone anyway jammed during the installation of update. Well, i rebooted it, but afterwards samsung apps doesn't open up on my mobile. It just opens the Samsung apps splash screen and goes back to menu or desktop, where ever i try to open it up.
Things i've tried to resolve this problem:
1. Factory reset, did nothing
2. Hard reset, didn't help
3. Tried to remove folder Samsung Apps from mobile with TK file explorer and stune, didn't work out. Not sure if it was right directory tho. Was something like AppEx\SamsungApps
Is there a way to re-install Samsung apps app?
Any help will be appreciated
You must flash the ShpApp.app of your firmware with multiloader. Write *#1234# to know your firmware version, then download the firmware and use multiloader to flash lite the Shpapp only.
Thanks Aurex for your response. It's very informative.
ok, so im going to do this thing.... I am downloading the firmware, but im not fully sure which one i should grab...
PDA Bada CSC Country/Carrier
S8500XXLD2 2.0 S8500OXBLC1 Sweden
S8500XXLD2 2.0 S8500OXBLC1 Nordic countries
S8500XXLD2 2.0 S8500OXBLC1 Sweden
There's 3 firmwares with exact same sw/csc details. None of those say it's suitable for Finnish version though. Can i still use those for this purpose?
Is there some guide to flash this thing only or do i have to fiqure it out myself?
And does this small flashing lose my personal data?
You can use what you want of this 3 firmware, no problem Open multiloader and don't select full firmware and bootfiles and select only SHPAPP. Take your ShpApp and click on Port Search and Download. No data lose.
But...have you ever flash before?
To be honest, i haven't never even seen a multiloader I've always flashed my firmware the legal ways (kies). But it can't be that hard, can it?
Does it matter what version of multiloader i use?
Here Multiloader 5.67
First of all you must go in download mode, so, press at the same time:
1. Volume Down Button
2. End Call Button
3. Lock Button
This is the download mode:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Connect your wave on pc with usb.
Then open Multiloader and select LSI and click on SHPAPP. Select your ShpApp and then click on Port Search and Download:
Ok, now i got firmware and multiloader 5.65. Only thing i need to do on the app is insert ShpApp.app to it's place?
EDIT: you answered me faster than i could post... So im trying to follow your instructions, but i port search ain't working. It just goes grey for couple seconds and comes back, nothing happens. Can't press download button.

Ok, so: open Samsung Kies and go to "Tools" (I think ) and "errors in troubleshooting connections" (or something similar). You need drivers.
Well, i managed to handle it with another computer. Percentages started running, will see what happens...

I'm happy!

SGH-S970G has an Unlocked Bootloader!!! Can't flash radio.

First off, I apologize for posting this in the T-Mobile section, but there is not a TracFone S4 section so I'm posting it here in hopes that other pre-paid S4 users will find this. I've managed to root, install custom recovery, and flash a T-Mobile rom to my TracFone S4.
Basically, what I've done is tricked the phone into believing it's a T-Mobile version and installed the TMo TWRP. I've tested this on a SGH-S970G without issues. I don't have service on it yet. I'm hoping to find an unlock (with the help of others) and be able to use this on other GSM networks.
I'm not responsible for what you do but if you'd like to try it, here's the steps:
Root your phone. I used Kingo Root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473747
Change your build.prop so that it reads as a T-Mobile S4. I used Root Explorer to navigate to /system/build.prop. Change:
ro.product.model to "SGH-M919"
ro.product.name to "jfltetmo"
ro.product.device to "jfltetmo"
Remove the quotations.
Reboot your phone so the changes will take place.
Install GooManager from the Play Store. Click menu, "Install OpenRecoveryScript", and "Yes" on the menu prompt. Your phone will download TWRP Recovery and flash it to your phone.
Click Reboot Recovery in Goo Manager and make a backup of your stock rom.
Download a TW Based 4.3 T-Mobile rom. Here's a stock deodexed one that seems to work nicely - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545711
Enjoy your awesome phone!
I've also tried to install a T-Mobile and/or AT&T radio without luck. Here's that thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324667.
I've tried flashing the radio through Odin, Mobile Odin, and TWRP. The Odin flashings fail and the TWRP seems to flash successfully but when I reboot, the old modem is still there. Using this tutorial, I've also pulled the modem for anyone who'd like to try to modify it or otherwise figure out how to change modems on this phone.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21738380/NON-HLOS.bin
I'm attaching a screenshot of my current build status.

Update - I flashed a 4.2.2 rom and was able to access the hidden menu per this article - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068. At step 6, [3] PERSO SHA256 OFF is not there. I don't think this phone is unlockable.

You can't fully unlock this phone. Even with unlock code after the phone restarts you have to enter the code again. The radio does not allow it to be permanent. TracFone would need to either upgrade or apply some sort of firmware update to allow the phone to accept the unlock permanent. I've tried is 100% pure stock and still does the same thing. You are able to use normal but as soon as you restart is locks again. January 2015 is fast approaching, so am waiting as to what TracFone will do to fix this issue, otherwise people are going to complain.

Q1: How do I root my SM-T310?
First you're gonna need a custom recovery installed.
Download the following files to your computer: Odin, TWRP, Root
Extract Odin into a new folder and then TWRP in Odon's folder. After that's done start the Odin tool and put your device into download mode. To do this, power it off and hold the Home + Volume Down + Power buttons until you see the warning screen.
Once that's done, connect your device to your computer and wait till Odin recognizes it. If it doesn't usually an installation of Samsung Kies would fix it.
After the device is recognized sucessfully click on the PDA button in Odin and navigate to the TWRP file location and load it.
Wait for the PASS message and reboot your device. (Without disconnecting it)
Once done, boot into TWRP and hold your device in portrait mode, tap Reboot on the bottom right of the screen and then select System on the next menu.
Once you do this you will be asked to install root. If that doesn't work for your, copy the Root zip file to your SD Card, boot into TWRP and flash it as a normal zip.

Q3: Which is the best ROM/Kernel?
Honestly, there is no "best". It's all based on personal choice. For example; I may like heavily customizing my ROMs whereas you may like it to look at basic as possible. The best thing you can do is to just test out different ROMs/kernels/modems and see which you prefer.
Also, please don't ask which is the best because your post will be deleted as it's against forum rules.

Q4: Am I required to backup my data before flashing anything?
No you're not, but it is definitely a good idea, especially when flashing a ROM with an updated base, because if you don't do a backup and then something goes wrong, it means that you'll lose all your apps, data etc.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) sm-p605 | can't install TWRP

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to install TWRP on my tablet but I've encountered some issues: starting from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...al-twrp-3-5-1-for-lt03lte-18-03-2021.3635803/ I've used Odin3_3.14.4 and Odin3_v3.13.1 to flash it but nothing changed.
I've also installed different versions of TWRP but the problem still persist.
The bootloader is the 5.1.1
Could please someone help me with it?
Thanks.

No, you did not provide a link to the odin you used.
So use the version of The Muppets.
After flashing TWRP you need to start recovery mode instead of letting android boot. The easiest way to do this after properly flashing TWRP:
unplug the USB cable
turn off the device with the power button
turn on recovery mode

Auto reboot must not be selected.
If it still fails, try an older Odin e.g. 3.10.7.
Hi,
same problem also with 3.10.7

Hi,
I've fixed it!

Hi,
I've installed the twrp-2.8.7.0-lt03ltexx-4.4.img.tar version, I have 2 problems:
1. I can't upgrade to twrp-3.1.1-0-lt03ltexx.img.tar, I've tried before but it goes in boot loop and I had to disconnect the battery and rollback to twrp-2.8.7, do you know how can I update to 3.11 version?
2. I want to install Lineage OS but all the posts I've found needs another TWRP version (for example this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...eos-17-1-for-lt03lte-20-03-2021-beta.4046055/ that needs the 3.2.1 version) do you know if I can install the same lineage OS version or do I have to make a custom version of it?
Thanks.
