Is the Dot View case decent for the Desire Eye? - HTC Desire Eye

I've seen some complaints about the M8's Dot View case, and wondered if the Desire Eye has the same issues with the springiness of the cover, for instance.
Has it been improved? Is it worth it?
Any other case suggestions?
Thanks!

I have been using the dot view for a few months now and I have to say that it is brilliant. The problem with the case on the One M8 was that the back of the phone was curved, and the case was flat. On the Desire EYE this problem doesn't exist. I can't imagine life without my dot view anymore.

It's worth it in ever possible aspect, I've been using it for a couple of weeks already and I absolutely love it.
Sent from my HTC Desire EYE using XDA Free mobile app

I liked it a lot till:
1) it broke miserably and I realized how fragile the hard plastic on the back is
2) I have discovered that the Case prevent the Autofocus from working well. I thought I was going crazy, but then I did tests with and without the Case. With the Case the Autofocus does NOT work!!! Specially in Macro, where actually the Desire Eye is already famous for having Focus problems.

The case provides MINIMAL protection to the phone. My phone fell on the floor while in lecture and I have to big scratches on thr screen since few months. It also can't be turned 360° backside easily and this causes the plastic at the joint to break. Don't buy this ****!

been using this case with my EYE for a year plus, no issue with or without case when taking photo. and i roll-back my stock camera app to the basic (out-of-box) because the update makes the photo looks too cartoonish (too much saturation). may be an update could solve your issue

sorry to hear that you phone got a scratch...
but my dot view case snug fit to the phone even after 4 drops (from waist height)!
and the hinge act like a spring, 2 of the drops (mention above) while i was walking and reading a map and it fell off-guard, the front flap just flip in mid air and close on the screen when the phone hit the ground, perfectly protecting the phone.
now my case is full of scratch, but my phone still looks good

seems to scratch easily.....

Ive only had mine since the Saturday before last and already I have a tiny scuff on the lens and a hairline scratch on the screen. I've not dropped, manhandled or in any way mistreated the handset and I keep it in my jeans pocket with no other items....I can't for the life of me work out how this has happened. Luckily It's going back to T-Mobile as I'm not happy with the headphone loudness...unfortunately it will spoil my enjoyment of the device a little as I'm going to be constantly worrying about scratches .appearing from nowhere.
Just thought I'd let you guys know that it might be wise to get a case and screen protector for your Desire and not assume that careful handling will prevent it getting irritating scratches or marks.
I have not received mine yet (it should be tomorrow), but I got same experience like yours with my HTC Kaiser.
I put it in my jeans pocket with nothing else, but yeah ... got scratches and the LENS cover is dirty which you cannot clean it.
I could buy the back part where the lens cover reside, but that's 30 euro in cost.
So, now, I bought a "seal" type of pouch for my upcoming HTC Desire
http://www.fommy.co.uk/view-full-page.asp?divid=Google&cat=Cases&skuno=82280
I already received it, it is soft leather and look nice. It should cover the whole device with slide open on top.
And I will buy screen protector later from martinshields.com (bit expensive, but it never let me down on my HTC Kaiser, Touch Dual, and Nintendo DSi). Strong, clear, thin and NO BUBBLES!

Similar situation with me - a few tiny scratches on the screen. Have to look hard to see them, but they're there. Waiting on screen protectors.
Just in case your getting confused... The screen has a cross hatch set of lines in it... Its part of the multitouch hardware i think. you can only see it in some angles of light. Same with the gridded dots.
Though i did buy a cheap felt pouch to keep it safe untill the PDAir cases come out.
I had a spare screen protector from my Milestone i just cut it to size and used that, far better than not having one at all, even though my old phone the Milestone had gorilla glass which they say you can't scratch i still never trusted it.
put it in a pouch.
Just cos there's no keys, pens etc. in your pocket, does not mean there's no fluff, grit or something else in there that will scratch the screen when it's pressed against your leg. all it takes is a tiny particle of grit or sand to get between the lining of your pocket and the screen and it'll scratch it to buggery!
I put an old Hero screen protector on mine, its covered the main screen portion but not the bezel area, waiting on my official screen protector though!
lets hope zagg release their invisible shield soon. those things are awesome!
I am going to try buy these official screen protectors

I thought it had the same glass screen as the HD2?
They have uploaded video of someone using keys and knives on an HD2 screen to try and scratch it and have failed...
@leoni1980
You had hd2 if I remember correctly?
I consider buying desire, could you compare overall build quality of this two devices? Also, is call quality in desire better than hd 2?
One more question:
In a phone call, does proximity sensor works like one on hd2 or iphone? Or do you must turn the screen on/off manualy?
Thanks.

The screen turns off when you lift the phone to your face in a call, and turns back on when you bring it down.
The build quality is as good I think, although this opinion is somewhat tainted by the fact that under the same circumstances my HD2 never developed a single scratch or scuff. I have a few tiny nicks on my camera lens already which is incredibly annoying since it is literally just 11 days of usage....one would expect a phone kept purely in a trouser pocket on its own to endure longer than a week and a half before developing marks.....
I'm really quite put off by this. When I get my replacement it'll be going straight in a gel case, though lord knows what I will use to protect the lens (which is clearly very susceptible to damage).
This is why I always say: use a pouch and use a screen protector! And e.g. when placing the phone on a hard surface, use the pouch as protection (read: put the phone on top of the pouch or keep the phone inside the pouch).
Mobiles are becoming disposable objects more and more. People use them for two years and then get rid of them (in the garbage bin). So not all people care about scratches etc. They will probably think the pouch and screen protector is nonsense.
Btw, getting a scratch doesn't nescecarily say something about the quality of the phone. In my experience getting a scratch on the phone is usually just bad luck. E.g. I had my Omnia for half a year, no scratches whatsoever. And my Hero was scratched the first week (even when I am so carefull with my stuff). Build quality of the Hero is much better than the Omnia imho (Omnia is all plastic, and chrome paint etc usually damages quickly). It only takes one silly moment to get a scratch unfortunately.
I always sell my phones after some time, every scratch is less value!
Guys Guys...It's a phone, scratch the baby up a bit let her live a little, all you are doing is keeping it tidy for the next owner, my phones are f**ked by the time the next all singing handset comes out so it gives me an excuse to buy the next one.
You might get 50 quid less by sending it off to envirofone or whatever but who cares it's only a phone and does not need leather fluffy cases
ronnyuk, you took the words out of my mouth. Spending time opening cases or sliding in and out of a pouch isnt worth it. Get past the first few scratches and then you can enjoy you phone without the worry. No scratches on mine yet though. Somehow I don't think the desire is going to stand up to what my touch pro went through. That was one seriously tough phone. I have dents in my wall from that baby.
RaptorRVL,
Did you specifically buy a pouch for your HTC Desire?
Or is it a used one from your other device?
If possible, let me know which one and where did you buy the pouch.
As I noted above, I got simple and nice soft-leather pouch from Fommy.co.uk, but if your pouch is nicer I will change

The Desire screen is certainly alot harder than the Touch HD due, I assume, to the different technologies. Thus I am hoping to get away without a protective screen - which I could never seem to get on the HD perfectly.
I was just wondering though whether, if the worst came to the worst, and my Desire does get scratched can you use a Displex ( http://www.displex.com ) type scratch remover? Worked very well on my early non-touch screen phones but clearly would not on the soft finish of the HD.
Anyone know whether OK on the capacactive Desire screen - still have half a tube left?

I got this one :
http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160415564575&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It's super cheap, 4 euros. It's for the nexus but fits the Desire very nicely (same size). Perhaps it could have been a few mm longer, that would have been perfect (little bit more protection at the top). But I guess it will all stretch a bit since its neoprene.
Can take a picture tomorrow with the Desire in if you want.

Going naked... how is your camera?

So I decided to NOT but a case around my pretty phone an go naked for a bit. The concern is about the camera lens. I have been getting more and more "careless" with the phone.. not putting it on a soft napkin and just laying it on a table. I have a screen protector on the front so maybe I should just lay it face down. But I am wondering.. anyone have an issue with the camera without using a hard case? The lens actually seems pretty strong....
I've never used an extra case for a phone, they already come with a nice sexy hard plastic one. However with the Evo i would never use it without a screen protector. I think the lens is decently strong, it can take being set down on. Still be careful though.
I use nothing at all not even a screen protector..and it's in perfect condition..i hope it stays like that
-------------------------------------
Sent from my Htc Evo 4g
I am hunting for a case right now. The phone got pushed by someone's elbow across the table and the sound nearly made my ears bleed and my heart stop. Luckily it didn't do anything to the raised camera, but I am not risking it again.
The Nexus lens is a lot like the Evo lens. I've had mine going for 3 months with rough use and there are a few tiny scratches on the lens, but nothing major. it doesn't effect the image quality at all.
I wouldn't be too worried
my zagg came with a cut out for the camera, going to just drop that on there
I got rid of my Hard case and got the Zagg full body and seidio holster my camera is holding up fine no scratches and i don't lay it flat on the screen
Do what I do...
Pop open the back case, and put on a square piece of CLEAR tape (not the scotch kind), packaging tape seems to work pretty well. Make sure it doesn't overlap on to the back speaker as it can reduce the phone's loudness. Then put the case back on. From time to time just replace the tape when it gets too scratched up.
Screen protector and nothing else. I normally leave the phone screen down on the desk.
I am not that concerned about the camera. There is always a way to replace parts on these phones (you can replace the screen 'relatively' easily also). I am sure I would be able to replace the camera cover/plastic/glass piece.
going streaking
been using it with out any screenprotectir abd case, not a single scratch *knock on wood* the new age screens are not ment to be used with a screen protector, and case just BLAH UGLY
I use a black silicon case and screen protector. I went nude for a while and I was just too nervous about it. The case is easy to take off, so if I let someone play with it, I often just take it off first so they can see just how nice the phone is. Something I like about the case is that the lens doesn't touch the surface when I lay it down - and I don't lay it on the screen, not that it would matter.
Another plus is that it doesn't slip out of my pocket like it used to (and any other phones I've had) when I'm active. Lots of pluses. Just too bad this particular one doesn't look that cool (not bad though). I'd really like to find a similar case that actually looks cool, maybe sporty.
I always use the kickstand and just prop up my phone. I am having no issues at all.
no case no nothing
it's gonna get wear and tear
but you're gonna get a new phone in 1 - 2 years anyway right
I always use a case to keep the phone in good condition for when I sell it after I'm done with it. It always gets top dollar since all the other used ones online being sold are junked up. But to each their own I suppose. Good luck!
No case, no screen protector. Looks like it did when I got it June 4th.
I just ordered this today: http://www.handhelditems.com/product_info.php?cPath=3524_5132_7769&products_id=135999
And it's cheap and it looks like it will do the job just fine with out adding much profile. I'd choose this over a naked alternative. Mine is partially naked, it has a screen protector and has been fine since.
I'll let you know how this case is when I get it.

I don't use a case and the camera is just fine, no scratches at all. I even dropped my phone on concrete like, the 3rd day I got it (missed my pocket lol) and the phone is completely fine, aside from a scratch on one of the corners that isn't noticeable unless you're looking for it. Speaking of which... I WANT A BUMPER CASE!! like this.. except black lol.
http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2010/06/11/pictures-of-iphone-4-bumper-cases-surface/
if anyone finds one let me know
I do not have any screen protector or case, and (until I get a dock) I set my phone down camera face down. I got it opening day and have no scratches on the screen, but there are tiny, minute scratches on the camera lens glass. Though they are contained within the black, non-lens area that reads "8.0 Megapixels". It almost seems like this was intentionally done, as when you set the phone down on the camera, it's at an angle and the viewable part of the lens doesn't seem to touch the table. Photos I take are unaffected. It seems harmless and I will keep going "naked" with mine. I'll try and take a close up pic of the affected area if anyone wants to see.
I've been really careful with the phone but got my first scratch on the lense yesterday. It must have happened in my pocket yet I only keep the phone by itself in there. The Evo is a beautiful phone but having that protruding lens is a retarded design.

[FIXED] Camera lens blurred

Hi guys, just noticed that my DZ camera lens is "blurred" out bad (I don't use my phone's cam regularly). It looks like scratches, see photos, but its more like coating wear off. I've seen disassembly photos, and it seems that the lens is glued to the back housing, which costs $89.99! Any suggestions to solve this problem? Thanks!
Are you able to get a replacement from your carrier for free?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Um, carrier, no, but warranty is still available, but I read in the warranty statement that scratches or cracks on lens are not covered.

Try ti check ebay and see what u can find. If not and all fails, get some plastic x ploish. And rub it on there. I used that stuff for my headlights, ipod and some other clear plastic stuff. It always worked out great.
The stuff is called plastic x its about $5 from walmart

Thanks for the tip. EBay doesn't seem to have the back housing, however I found one at HTCrepairparts.com for $89.90. I'll try to visit the service center, and hopefully get it fixed, with the right words (got my touch fixed that way ). If all else fails, i'll try looking for that polish. Thanks!

Just got back my Desire Z from servicing, and its beautiful, they totally changed the back lens, which included the back housing! Awesome, no more smudges now!
toothpaste
I had the same problem with my HTC G2, with the camera so scratched all my pics were blurred. I fixed it pretty cheaply by polishing the lens with a little bit of toothpaste! 2 mins of rubbing with toothpaste and a little bit of cardboard and 95% of the lens is clear again and scratch free. My pics are sharp and in focus again. I have a few minor marks around the edge still as they are hard to reach, but they are not affecting the picture or focusing.
Hope this helps somebody

Hi reeshmd,
I'm very interested in getting a new back cover.
However, i have three questions:
1. Is it original one? Because the price seems too low, and this part must fit perfectly!
2. To change it, we need to void warranty, or not? One screw is covered with a "VOID" sticker.
3. There seems to be 2 different versions of the cover (A & B), how do you know which one to get?
Thanks.
--------
About the scratches itself (i have exactly the same thing as first post pictures show), it looks to me more like some coverage is gone, which probably filtered UVA&B and/or IR light. I say that because not only my pictures are blured now, but also they always look completely over exposed.
--------
Could anyone send a very clear zoomed picture of the camera glass in perfect shape? The same pics as the ones of the first post, but of a new DZ or G2.
Thanks

My camera lens had similar problems too. I tried toothpaste and now my pictures are brilliant! Thank you for the tip
One question though, is the plastic cover coated therefore there was scratches or was the "scratches" just dirt? I'm wondering if rubbing with toothpaste would rub-off the coating (if there was one to begin with)

There is a coating, and it would have reduced flare/glares, however if it was so grimmy to begin with, the coating was going to go one way or another. But least without it the contracts is quite a bit higher than default.
I used Plastic Booster (a cleaner for plastic food containers) to clean the plastic cover on my old Shadow camera before and it made quite a difference. I think mine was due to just sweat/dirt that discolored the plastic and made everything blurry.

To screen protect or not screen protect...

To all my fellow HTC One X owners - are you using protection? LOL
I'm simply asking because I was wondering if anyone is going commando with the phone, and whether the screen has shown any scratches as a result? I know the phone is supposed to be sporting the all-powerful Gorilla Glass 2, but I don't trust it yet and so have put a screen protector on the front. This dulls the lustre of the screen a bit, so I am thinking of removing it.
How about yourselves? What has been your own personal choice?
you never know.
I got mine protected.
i saw a post about someone having scratches already. Then I viewed the crazy video of the gorilla glass2 scratch test performed by one *FINE* lady here in xda.
I decided to protect it then. the screen protector doesn't protect the whole screen though.
Edit: have to rephrase she's here now.

Heres the crazy lady - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590172
I used to have a screen protector on my sg2, then took it off after a year and it looked like a brand new phone, felt like i was missing out on the beautiful screen. I was going to get one for the one x, but I have extra insurance included in my phone contract against any kind of damage, accidental etc.. and it seems like it'll be hard to completely cover the glass, especially on the sides as I've seen on the forums that some people have had issues getting it to stay stuck.
I treat most things like they are a new born child when I first get them, then after a while, you get comfortable. I don't want to have this sexy looking phone and cover it with screen protectors and back covers - even if it did cost a lot of money.
one crazy lady here!
nah i'm not going to bother with a screen protector after my test i think....only thing i'm really concerned about is that camera lense. Would like to know what it's made of and how i can protect it (without sticking gel cases on the back etc)
It's funny that on these scratch tests the device never has any issues.
But reading on the forum some people do have scratches etc. just because they have keys and phone in same pocket... Makes you wonder, what kinda test did the scratchtester do with there HaitchTC One eX (Hahaha you crazy british people).

My right pocket on any kind of clothing is my dedicated phone pocket. I put nothing in there with it aside from my smooth leather wallet. If you put keys in there and other sharp stuff, then it's your own fault in my opinion! You don't throw your house keys at your television or computer do you? So why throw them on your pride and joy mobile phone! hehee

You'll probably end up with scratches due to sand particles that somehow end up in your pockets. Basically metal won't scratch the glass, but sand will. I won't bother with a screen protector, but I do expect to see at least a couple of microscratches at some point in the near future.
To be honest the first one is the only one that hurts. After that it's bearable.

So true!
I dunno - technology these days. Screens can stand up to an assault from nail scissors. What's it going to be for Gorilla Glass 3? Attacks from ninjas armed with samurai swords?
I did
I got the original HTC screen films from an O2 shop yesterday. Went on easily and did not degrade the image quality or the touch sensitivity.

I have the HTC branded screen protector on my Desire. It's been on since the day I got the phone around 18mths ago along with a case-mate Tough. The protector still looks like new, with one small scratch on it.
Having said that, I'm still on the fence about the One X screen. I'll probably go for another case-mate Tough as it has been worth the money on the Desire for the protection.

I didn't like the official screen protectors, stuck onto the piece of card with some adhesive, by the time i had pulled them off (as carefully as possible) it left a dint in my screen protectors, both ended up with a horrible air bubble where the adhesive had warped the film.
I might just get a nice case and stick with it.
I'm just waiting to see whether i'm keeping it or selling it, i've been appalled by the battery life so far, but the screen seems to be the culprit, at minimum brightness, the screen eats 1% of the battery for ever 5-10 minutes it is on, hopeless when you're playing games, anyone know any solution to this apart from never playing games on the phone?
Wat screen protectors do you guys use?
I have the official HTC ones on mine. but they dont wrap around the edges. Which causes it to sort of "meh". The problem is that the edges of (my) official screen protector dont connect with the screen.
So I am wondering if there are any other brands that do not have this problem and I can order on ebay/amazon or some other website (I live in belgium )

Camera scratch problems?

I am coming from the original HTC Evo, which was extremely prone to scratching on the camera, due to the protrusion of the camera. I have since upgraded to the S3 and notice the camera also protrudes out a bit, although not quite as prominently. Has anybody notices any scratching on their S3 camera from daily use (phone in pocket, sitting on counter tops, etc)?

I got my sIII two days after release and I don't have a single scratch anywhere.

Had mine 2 more nths now, not a scratch anywhere; although I bought a case at the same time as my phone in order to prevent that from happening. These phones are expensive! I wanted to protect my $200 investment right away!

I had the same problem with my Evo 4G. The lens cover was all scratched after a time.
As soon and I got the GSIII I bought a case (Seidio Surface) to protect the phone. It has the camera recessed to protect it. If the two days that I had the SGIII without a case I was careful not to scratch it. A problem I noticed right away was that the photos would be streaky in high contrast situations. The problem went away if I cleaned the camera with a lens cleaner. The problem was a fingerprint streaks from simply using the phone. The case also helps prevent this since you no longer can directly tough the lens buy just talking on the phone.
