[KERNEL] [SHIFT][AOSP][LOLLIPOP] - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Shift Lollipop Kernel
This kernel supports only Lollipop AOSP. Should support all roms but not sure about Slim, if it doesn't work for a ROM please upload the boot.img from the ROM and post it here and I will see about adding support. Basically this kernel was developed only for CyanideL ROM but has progressed into a decent standalone kernel from reports as I do not own this device, so I thought I would just go ahead and share it so it was known and people could use it for other Lollipop Roms since I keep the source updated for the ROM I figured a kernel with some features and up to date source would be worth posting. Hopefully you all enjoy it

exfat?
Thanks! This kernel has been working great on Cyanide L.
Quick question, does it have exfat support built in?

This kernel is working great on Oct-L

Top of my head I'm not sure and I'm not by my build machine to check the source. If it's not I can look into adding it tho. I have it in my they kernel source so I'm sure I can port it over

Thanks. I have a microsd that may be of dubious quality. It works best as exfat. I've found I have to be really cautious with it. I'm pretty sure I didn't try it with cyanide.
Doesn't seem to support exfat, but it's nice and smooth on the official Slim weekly.

Loving your kernel, hey I am wondering about f2fs, is it new? I tried formating my system and data to f2fs flashed shift v2.2 and didn't boot I tried this on cyanide L and I am a currently on it (ext4), if there are different steps I need to take please let me know other wise I am loving v3!!!

F2fs ramdisk support was added in 3.0. I only added it for data and cache tho and that's where the improvements are to be had

Shift 3.0 bootloops on CyanideL
I've been running CyanideL with the Shift kernel for a couple of months with no problems. The latest version (20150220) bootloops on me, though. I tried a dirty flash, then factory reset but either way it shows the Samsung flash screen, buzzes and then back. I tried flashing Shift 3.0 separately after this happened, as suggested by @TheGeekyNimrod, but that produced the same result. But then I flashed Shift 2.2 D2 over CyanideL-20150220, and now it's booting fine.
I tried to take a logcat while it was booting with adb logcat>logfile but I got the message -waiting for device- and nothing more. The logifle was empty. Is there another way to take a boottime logcat? My recovery is TWRP 2.8.4.0.
Thanks, @rogersb11, for all your work on this.

Yea this seems to be a very random issue. Geeky himself has this on a previous kernel I gave him. After failed boot you can boot straight to recovery and pull the last_kmsg. I can't remember exactly the command but a quick search will tell you. That's the kernel log

3.0 running great on Oct-L. Awesome work!

I tried this but there was no last_kmsg. I did get one from a successful boot with the 2.2-D2 kernel; that one said "no errors" at the bottom. But I guess it doesn't get far enough to even create the kmsg file with the 3.0 kernel. The last time I tried it stayed on the Samsung flash screen with the LED pulsing blue for about 10 minutes before I pulled the battery.

If it stays on the Samsung screen very long at all then it's just not gonna boot. Well that's unfortunate man, 3.0 is a massive improvement. Not sure how to help you since almost all haven't had this issue. Maybe next build will work for you. Not sure what else I will add but I'm sure I'll find something. Anybody have any requests?

You're awesome, I know I'll be happy when a new build comes out that works. Fiops please, and I don't know if f2fs support for sdcard would work but that seems like the best file format for an sdcard to me. :good:

I'll look into fiops. F2fs should work on an sdcard. Kernel supports f2fs cache and data so internal and external should work that way

Cool stuff, I flashed the newest twrp recovery and latest modem/baseband NJ1 using Exodus rom from team Vanir http://www.vanir-exodus.net/exodus/d2att/ shift kernel 2.2 works sortof, zzmoove hardlocks the phone and xposed alpha won't work[works on exo kernel]. 3.0 is broken for me still on a clean flash the splash loads this time then after a bit the screen goes black, oddly enough touching the power button causes a vibrate but other then that phone won't wake. Phone is unresponsive from pc side using adb logcat etc when on 3.0 so I don't know how I would report any bugs.

[kernel/rom] cm9/ics build with fixes [02/09/2012 flash.zip update or full rom]

[ 02/09/2012: Screen Flicker / Brightness is an issue. I'll be looking at it. ]
Hi guys,
In an attempt to help further kernel development for the Kindle Fire, I'd like to share my stock defconfig. It's a bit different than the original otter_android_defconfig that g1011999 came up with.
I was never able to get a usable kernel. So I took some time and built up mine.
https://github.com/KFire-Android/kernel_omap/blob/stock/arch/arm/configs/otter_android_defconfig
This kernel builds using the preferred TI compiler used in all of their walk-thrus: CodeSourcery 2010-q1
Moving forward into CM9/ICS, some changes need to happen to the kernel over time. The migration kernel is found in a branch: "L27.13.1-ICS". The END result of this will be a kernel / source that fully support hw codecs for ICS.
[02/08/2012] FLASH ZIP FOR THOSE RUNNING NIND'S BUILDS: http://bit.ly/xYOf0V
The following ROM is built from the sources at GitHub under the KFire-Android org. Many of those files and configurations are the result of countless hours of development by JackpotClavin. I don't want there to be any confusion as to who put in a ton of time getting this to work.
[02/09/2012] FULL ROM INSTALL: http://bit.ly/ygVvQB
Changelog:
- Screen flicker IS an issue right now. Digging into it
- Touchscreen "Slop" set to 16. This should help touches register on the touchscreen.
- Working Data usage stats (xt_qtaguid / xt_quota2 kernel modules)
- TUN, CIFS support
- USB mounting fixes
Thanks Hashcode, currently building a latest ICS version of it.
A little note for those who also want to compile: arm-eabi-4.4.3 and arm-eabi-4.4.0 did not work for me, they ended the compile without any errormessage in the middle of nowhere, arm-eabi-4.3.1 did the job. Took me some time to figure that out ...

If you want to follow a very good step by step guide for setting this up the same way TI (the CPU maker) intended, then follow this:
http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/PandaBoard_L27.12.1-P2_Release_Notes#Setting_up_build_environment
Obviously, that's for PandaBoard, but the Toolchain source and setup are very good.
It goes into deep sleep for me and turning off the stay awake option in settings, developer options, the screen goes off like its supposed to.

Tonight, I'll go back to both of my in-progress kernels and do some testing to see if they'll boot.
EDIT:
Current issues being looked at with this kernel:
- Power off doesn't really power all the way down. It goes to a black screen, but requires long press to turn off.
- Deep sleep isn't happening. The backlight is on a tad while the screen should be off.
But this config is still MUCH better than trying the original.

So does this boot cm7 or anything? My kernel builds boot stock kindle but not cm7
Its something to do with netd/dnsproxyd. Just finding a fix that works is a PITA common issue, but then people dont say how they fixed it..
Right now ive only tested this with CM9

Any chance you're looking into enabling more than 2 touch points in this kernel?

I'm running nind/sitic's cm9-02-04 build with this kernel baked in. I, too, have Stay Awake disabled in Developer Options, and my Kindle is going into deep sleep. I am experiencing the power down issue, though.
It's something I'm absolutely willing to live with for the time being. This is good stuff. Thanks Hashcode!

Well reason I asked was because my kernel wont boot cm7 or cm9. It boots the stock kindle fire os okay. Im getting netd/dnsproxyd errors in the kernel when I try booting cm7.

Right now the difference between this kernel and stock is:
- About 8 ip6 netfilter modules were added
And that's about it.

Are you using the stock ramdisk or the modified ramdisk for cm? I know there must be a difference, as intersectRaven puts out several different variations of his kernel in boot.img form, but I haven't gotten around to diffing them yet

ill look into insectraven's cm kernel thanks!
Edit: That worked! Thanks!
he starts the dnsproxyd differently than what I've seen. But it works!
So I noticed that /mnt/ is mounted read-only which causes issues with apps installing to the sdcard and probably the issue people are having with mounting the sdcard to the computer. Some apps insist on installing to the sdcard (I hate that)
Edit: or do I have this all wrong? Lol I'm no dev remounting it r/w gets the job done.
Is there any websites or anything that you guys would recommend to learn about the Linux kernel and development of it?
Tonight, I went back through and cleaned up my config some more. Removed extra power controls, usb mtp settings and omap mmc host controller (for sd card slot boards).
From my tests, everything deep sleeps correctly and the power off issue is fixed.

I'm still learning what the changes were on NJ1. The camera feels like it takes pictures faster, a little quicker to respond for the next pic.

You need to have Samsung 4.3 Bootloader or newer.
Make sure you have the latest TWRP/CWM recovery installed.
Next, remember to backup your apps and your efs folder. That's something that you always should do before flashing anything.
Go to TWRP/CWM recovery via pressing home + power + volume up button at the same time.
Make a Nandroid backup of your working system, if you haven't done so.
Its best to do a clean install for any new Rom (clean installation recommended includes internal storage)
In TWRP Recovery hit wipe, and slide to factory data reset system. (Internal won't be touched fyi)
In PHILZ Recovery Format Internal SDCard (in mounts and storage) and do Factory reset (I will install a new ROM option in PhilZ)
(Reminder) Remember that everything you flash you do it at your own risk so do your research before flashing anything!!
Now find the location of the Rom on your external and install it.
Flashing the Rom zip.
It should take less than 10 minutes till it boots...

Xposed Installer Credit : Author(s): rovo89, Tungstwenty
This is the installer for the Xposed framework, which is a requirement for all modules.
Xposed is a framework for modules that can change the behavior of the system and apps without touching any APKs. That's great because it means that modules can work for different versions and even ROMs without any changes (as long as the original code was not changed too much). It's also easy to undo. As all changes are done in the memory, you just need to deactivate the module and reboot to get your original system back. There are many other advantages, but here is just one more: Multiple modules can do changes to the same part of the system or app. With modified APKs, you to decide for one. No way to combine them, unless the author builds multiple APKs with different combinations.

So does this mean that you have to flash the ne1 ROM (buttnaked or full) before flashing this one? Also, how has agni kernel been behaving on 4.4 lately? I shied away from using it because of all the freezes and reboots awhile back. I'm using a 4.4 ROM whose kernel is stock based right now, but the network type within the APN keeps switching LTE off on me, and it's driving me nuts. I love it, but I also love your ROMS, I used your mk6 ROM for a very long time and always keep it in my back pocket. I might give this NJ1 build a shot, since it's an ATT base. Thanks in advance. ?

I used the NE5 as base and patched the NJ1 OTA. So you can just flash it all by itself. It does not have the kernel, but it does have the NJ1 modem.
DoctorQMM has been chatting with Bajanman and he suggested do not go over 4.2.8 kernel.Doc has been running it for a few days and it's doing fine on his phone. But you know, every phone acts different.
I've been running 4.2.5 since it came out. I just loaded 4.2.8 last night. It's running good. I may add it to an update, only thing I see right now is removing a couple of Knox files I missed.
I'm messing with the AOSP 5.0, should be done with the Almost Naked today or tomorrow. Thought I was done last night until I flashed it.
I lost track of my builds ober the last week and the build I'm messing with had the newer Play services and store.
It was a train wreck when I tried to get into Play sotre.. Updates worked fine and it's running now, but it's half assed if I release it like it is.
I dirty flashed this over the ne5 buttnaked v1 I had installed, and it works flawlessly. I had some crashes on the ne5, but none so far on this rom. Thanks Dev...because of you guys, I don't have a need update my Note 2. Much appreciated.

No worries. Glad it worked.
Just out of curiosity, I did a clean install of this rom, but got the black screen as well. I had to dirty flash over the n5 butnaked rom. Not sure why this is, but thought I should mention it as well.

Did you install anything between the flashes? The only difference really is the NJ1 Buttnaked does not have a kernel and the NE5 does.

Use my 3.8.1 kernel. Super solid and stweaks is packed. Just fixed a boot issue with TW as it's dual boot but I've been running it on my Saber rom and it's been flawless. No SOD or RR. Kernel has updated LTE modem firmware too. Gave me an extra bar at home where I consistently had been getting only one. Make sure to get build 3.8.1 from AFH and not 3.8 on xda. I haven't been able to upload to xda for 3 days

Thanks for the link and especially thanks for being the first Dev to include kexec hard boot patch for D851 in his kernel
Heh, I managed to screw up my MultiROM setup.
Fusion LP was a tertiary ROM. I decided to flash this kernel against it. Almost 10 minutes and it never finished flashing. TWRP was also frozen.
On restart none of the ROMs would boot. Trying to reselect Fusion in MultiROM would fail and freeze/lock TWRP. Seems the partition with Fusion got corrupted.
Got tired of pulling the battery so wound up restoring primary ROM and will start over with MultiROM.
Just one of those things probably unrelated to the kernel itself.
I should have at least backed up the secondary ROM. Oh well. ?

I'm using it with Fusion as primary ROM with no problems. But flashing fusion itself takes close to ten minutes to flash, and the progress bar shows nothing until it's done. I was already on fusion, then flashed RIN and Multirom.
Never mind.
Working well with Euphoria.
Thanks for a great AOSP kernel

I changed my primary SkyDragon ROM then reflashed kexec kernel and multirom. Discovered my CM11 was still there (cool) then reflashed Fusion.
Flashed RIN kernel but this time I waited. It took much longer than the ROM install.
But all is good. Fusion seems to be running great with RIN.
Thanks.

Kernel is working great
I've used this Kernel on about 3 different LP ROM's (clean flash) and on each of them, the pull down menu appears and freezes after ending calls whether its being made or receiving them. If you are able to get out of the menu, the pull down no longer works. You must reboot for everything to return to normal...
Nothing says great batterylife except when it tells me 1 day 19 hours and hasnt been on a charger since 8 am
Nice kernel exelent battery and no complains for now ?
Been off charger all day with light use and its still going strong

So far so good... Seems to be running better than KT kernel for me. I had quite some lag with that one on a rooted stock rom.
@djvoleur What is the advantage of this kernel over the stock OE2 kernel? Faster/better performance, better battery..?? Thanks

That's the goal ?
Ill give it a shot. Will report back with how it goes.
tempted to try this sense we've only got one kernel on the Edge besides stock but it lags when a video shows up would this one work?
It works with Sac Rom v3. I dirty flashed over Kt Kernel with no problem. Ktweaker and moniter are still there. OP credited Ktoonsez so not sure if thats intentional or not.
I have noticed no difference between this an Kt Kernel 5/28 so far.
Lag on opening video/webm persist

Give me an example of a video that lags...
The videos themselves dont lag, there is a lag whenever I try to open one. It just stops for a second or two when I open one, then the video starts. I am using MX player if thats relevant. It might be on my end.

Same issue and I'm not using that app. I think everyone noticed the lag with Facebook. If autoplay setting is enabled, the app is unusable. But even when you turn it off, if you try to select a video to watch, it freezes for a few seconds and then plays. We don't have access to a stock kernel to know whether it's the Rom or Kernel though. The issue doesn't exist when fully stock though.

Updated to be pretty similar to stock kernel...
I just flashed the updated version, figure its worth a try, my battery life on KToonz kernel hasnt been great thus far
I can say right now that I am experiencing improved battery life over KtKernel 5/28.
I will reccommend this to other G920P users.
Any opportunity to bless us with an Edge variant kernel? We're struggling over there with only 1 that's been provided. It does the trick and we're all so very grateful for it, yet curious to test out other kernels that may be suitable for it as well. If not, it's completely understandable. Thanks for all you're doing for the community!

not sure what happened, but I shut my phone off each night, and put it on the charger, this morning it would not boot up, would just go to the Samsung Android start screen, couldnt even get into recovery, the only change I made was I flashed the update kernel here, odd thing is, the phone was running fine before I powered it down. I had to Odin back to stock this morning, which is where I sit now, debating on taking the 5.1.1 update

[KERNEL] Nougat kernels

To God be the glory, It is finally here: Android N kernels!
@malacore had a good suggestion for me to get started on my AKLU kernels while I wait for more ram for my computer to make my own N builds. I started with JDCTeams's CM14, and hope to branch out to AOSP and others soon.
Feel free to comment if you have tried them on another rom, successful or not, or to leave feedback on these kernels as well. These can be flashed on any JF variant of phone, but I have only personally tested them on JFLTETMO.

Kernel seems to run fine I noticed no fauxsound or fast charge. Also didn't have all the same governors as other kernels u have. Web apps ran laggy but I think that's something with that rom. Also noticed on boot unlike ur marshmallow dev kernel it show not selinux enforcing. currently back on marshmallow it says only about kernel. Why is that on marshmallow it says permissive when full booted under about phone. I wonder if it's some flag or something supersu patches on marshmallow dev that it can't or isn't patching on the nought kernel. Because both ur rom and cm14.1 are both showing permissive fully booted under about phone with me changing nothing. Even ran getenforce to make sure.

Yes, I am still adding features, so fast charge, fauxsound, etc., are not added yet. Also it is not set to permissive when I made it for their ROM, because their default was enforcing. I can make it default permissive if needed when I make more adjustments. It is somewhat difficult working within their ROM to make my own kernel, so it will take some time to get all of the features put in.
that's funny cause the nought one boots with two errors on sammy logo not seandroid enforcing I think and kernel warranty bit as if is permissive but when boot mm dev kernel only shows kernel warranty bit on sammy screen as if enforcing during boot but permissive when finished boot. Also N shows permissive but did flash supersu before booting maybe it changed it. Steps was
Full wide-after backup of course
flash cm14.1
flash 7.1 micro gapps
flash ur N kernel
flash supersu 2.78 sr3- there rom flash 2.78 sr1

For now I am satisfied with Alucard kernel in OotCM14 but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how things developed.
I do have one question, is your kernel based on stock cm kernel or Alucard?

No worries!
Yes, my kernel is based on stock CM kernel. Alucard kernels are great, I have a lot of respect for Alucard kernels.

To God be the glory, another successful addition to the N kernel! Just added a few I/O schedulers.

I am guessing it was a typo and he meant aosp not aosp. No aokp rom yet that I know of.

Actually, there is an AOKP 7.0 teaser download in the AOKP MM thread. No working calls yet.

Great question!
Yes, I plan to do that eventually, it may take me a while. There are some other pressing phone items that I need to fix first.
For some reason I tried flashing your aokp kernel on your new build and boot indefinitely. Could be me

Hmmm... It did test good here. However, I let AOKP N boot fully, then went back to recovery and flashed this kernel.
However, I have updated it, so try the new one in the OP, if you would. It also tests good here. When flashing, it gave me an error, but still flashes just fine. The error is about the syntax of the META-INF file, not a kernel problem.
Let me know how if you have any more problems. I did not have GAPPS installed when I tested this, just for reference.
Praise God, new kernel is up!
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that the OP is updated with the new kernel, including intelliplug, an alternative to mpdecision for hotplugging. This controls how many cores are used at once. You have to use Kernel Adiutor or some similar app to control it. Intelliplug has several options that show up in the Kernel Adiutor as well. Let me know what you think!
hi there is a procedure to install this kernel on RR ( like wipe cache), because i tried an get a bootloop
