How to get your WiFi Hotspot Working - No Reboot! - Sprint LG G2

I made a post of this in the affliction rom thread and thought I would share with everyone else who is interested and who doesn't know:
So I just wanted to give you guys a heads up about the hotspot hack that I had figured out myself that does not require a reboot everytime you get a no internet connection with the yellow triangle when trying to connect. Basically when you turn your hotspot on, it may or may not give the yellow triangle saying you have no connection. In my case, the first time I installed this rom early this morning this was the case. In most cases all you have to do is go to System Settings>Roaming>Access Point Names and click the little button, it may deselect it, keep checking it until it sticks and your connection goes through. If this does not work actually select the APN and go back and reselect it. Most cases this fixes the issue, very rarely should you have to reboot your phone from now on!

[Q] WiFi kinda problem.

Alright, this is not like the biggest problem, but I would certainly like to know if it happens to anyone else, and is it possible to be solved.
So, my WiFi connection is very good, actually router is in my room, and I don't have problem connecting to it, but just a little annoying thing.
When I go out of the house, of course, I lose connection, but when I get back, I see that phone HAS reconnected itself to my home network, but then I try going to some website, and it says it has no connection. In order to make it work I have to turn WiFi off and then back on.
It's not that big of a deal, I didn't even care to post this so far, but it's getting kinda annoying, if I lose connection for 1 sec it's done, it can't reconnect correctly.
I installed WiFi Manager app, but it didn't change anything, it just makes it easier to connect to WiFi again.
So, my question is: Has this ever happened to you, and how can I solve this, is there any way?
Hopefully you can take a bit of your time and read this whole post, and help me.
Thanks in advance

WiFi Disconnecting Issue

Perhaps the most annoying thing is that I had stock rooted....then I switched to Liquid Smooth v2.2 (I'm just saying because the problem has spanned across both ROMs....thus it can't be a ROM issue)
But pretty much, when the WiFi is connected, sometimes it'll cut out...and go to 3G.....then maybe it'll come back again, and maybe it doesnt.
Only time the problem gets manually fixed is if I go to the pulldown menu and click on WiFi (the WiFi button is already lit, but I unclick it, then click it again) and then it'll come back.
But if I go to settings --> WiFi, it will force close. Only way to fix it is from the pulldown menu.
My WiFi policy is set to "never sleep" which is fine because it goes into sleep mode when I use DS Battery Saver.
Can someone help me, so that it doesn't automatically disconnect? Thanks!!
I'd go back to full stock
[ROM/RESTORE][!MB1 OTA!](3-05)Quick Return to UNROOTED STOCK WITH FLASH COUNT RESET
and see how things go, I've heard that using root toolkit can cause weird wifi problems if that was used to achieve root.
I'd stay on stock for a few days. If wifi stays wonky then bring it in to sprint. if not then try to root again. (if you used the toolkit then use the method outlined by qbking777 - you can find his channel on youtube)
Good luck

Well this problem doesn't occur in other home's WiFi, only mine.
And it's been recent, probably like 2 months.

Ah, well that would have been good to mention before
things i would check:
It may be due to your security type on your router.
I have mine set to WPA2/PSK; you might play with that.
any new apps installed on your phone
maybe a firmware update to the router if you've updated the modem on your phone
if not, maybe update the modem on your phone
if all else fails. I'd still go all the way back to stock and check it out. because that gives you a know starting point with not augmentation.
Ok so I had this same problem a while back and after a little Google-fu I found a solution.
I found that people were able to fix it by changing the SSID of their wireless access point. I changed the SSID that my router was broadcasting so it would have ONLY alphabetical characters (went from MOTOROLA-8472J to MOTOROLA) and the problem magically fixed itself.
Dont know why this happened, but it seems like its a problem across Android, as opposed to a single device
Hope this helps
Mine is like JMF23 but I'll change it to something else.
Problem isn't just my router. I just went to a friend's and it's the same thing. I am extremely frustrated and I have no idea what to do.
The WiFi keeps connecting...then disconnects. When I go to the settings, the IU freezes. I can only enable WiFi again from the pulldown menu.
Did you try going back to full stock as jdelano mentioned above?

Wifi not working properly

This is strange, my wifi works but then suddenly it only uploads (only green arrow lights up) and it will not download (orange arrow will not light up). I can disconnect and reconnect and I get some service, but then nothing happens.
I've tried the following:
Rebooting the phone several times
Restarting the router
Changing from DHCP to Static IP
Turning off the new open network notification
Clearing data from Google Play store
Disabled wifi power save with *#0011#
Nothing seems to fix it. What is going on?
READ BEFORE YOU FOLLOW ANY OF MY INSTRUCTIONS!! U HAVE BEEN WARNED I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU SOMEHOW DAMAGE YOUR PHONE!!!
OK so let's go straight to Ur answer.... Let it sit for a while after it boots up (a minute) with Ur wifi on. so restart the phone while wifi is on and let it sit for a while... If Ur using a wired connection with a wireless router disconnect the wired modem then the wireless and wait 10 secs and reconnect the wired first and let's all the lights go green or whatever color they show u its ready and then connect the wireless router and try to connect to it.
If that didn't work and you don't have your phone rooted then flash the only time that we have for now. That should fix the wifi issue.
If it doesn't work try to go back to stock and let it sit for a while without touching it and if it doesn't work then the phones defective but keep in mind that if you went through the root process that if you send it back without erasing the flash counter your warranty will be voided so be aware of it. I don't know if there's an app compatible with the s4 so if it's not rooted then replace it just to be safe.... It's your choice

My phone is not rooted.
What did you mean by flashing the time?
How do I erase the flash count if I decide to root later?
Thank you for your help. =)
------edit------
The method -- sans the flashing the time -- seemed to work, but then the internet stalled again. This is happening on two S4 phones. My other phones have no trouble with the wifi, my pcs have no trouble with the wifi. What are the odds that two phones aren't working? Nobody else is having this problem?
I have already made a thread with the sane issue. You're not the only one facing it. A lot more people are too. It might be a software thing and might be fixed in the next update. If not, exchange it

What router are you using? D-Link DIR-655 seems to be most popular one people are having trouble with. What mode are you using (a/b/g/n/mixed/etc)? Mine only works with Mixed n and g mode. When you turn off the wifi, does it actually turn off (the green indicator will dim but should actually go away when it's off)? The stock rom seems to want to keep the wifi on at all costs... not sure why! Mine is very stubborn and takes several tries before it actually turns off and says "turn wifi on the see available networks." In order for the *#0011# Power Save Mode Off setting to work, the WiFi needs to actually turn off then back on. I have to toggle airplane mode sometimes just to get the wifi to turn off.
DGL-4500 Linksys
It shuts off when I save; I put the settings as you suggested. I'll test it.

DGL-4500 is a D-Link, correct? If it is a D-Link, I'd make sure you are on the latest firmware for it and try various mode settings (disable mixed modes, 2.4GHz or 5GHz only, WPA2/TKIP only, etc). This post details a solution to my scenario; maybe it'll give you some ideas.
I have d-link router too and wifi working just fine

Yeah, it is a D-Link; not a Linksys. I tried what you did, it seems to be okay so far. I have the latest firmware. I still think this is a problem with the phone. Do you think an update will fix it?

Yes, it's definitely a problem with the phone. I've spent the last several days researching and trying to find a permanent solution. It appears to be a software issue but I've yet to explain how wifi works just fine for some and not for others.
Any solution to this yet without messing with the router setting. I have this week left to get a full refund. I doubt exchanging it would make a difference. Plus tmobile is out of stock and stores won't allow exchanges since I bought mine online.

I sent my phone to Samsung, so I'm waiting to hear back from them on what they have to do to fix my issue. Maybe it's a faulty batch of Broadcom chips?

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully it can be fixed. I have 4 days left to return so I will return it for now and buy it later if it gets fixed. Let us know how it goes.

Has anyone heard anything on this? I got a PM from Samsung asking me some questions, but they never got back to me. Any news?

[Q] Weird wifi problem - always scanning never refreshing SSIDs

I've searched and seen a ton of wifi threads but couldn't find this particular problem.
Something is making my S3 wifi get stuck scanning constantly. This part seems to be a common problem; the weird thing in my case is that even though the phone is constantly scanning it is not refreshing the list of SSIDs. So even though I am home and it is scanning, it doesn't show my SSID or any of the SSID's in the vicinity. It shows a bunch of SSID's which it picked up at some point while I was out and it is stuck on them. Also, when this is happening it doesn't show the "remembered" networks which are not in range. Usually you see all those at the bottom of the SSID list.
If I turn wifi off then back on again nothing changes. It displays the same obsolete list of SSIDs and keeps scanning.
If I toggle airplane mode then the phone actually refreshes the list of SSIDs and it stops constantly scanning. And it shows the list of remembered SSIDs which are not in range.
Keep in mind that updating SSID's isn't totally broken. When I leave the house it's working fine on my home SSID. After I leave it is obviously updating the list of SSIDs for a while but at some point it just stops updating the list but keeps scanning.
Any ideas? I'm stock & rooted 4.3.
I feel like I've posted a million issues in the last few days. I recently got a refurb S3 from Sprint that is a complete POS. My old phone was rock solid until the power button crapped out on me.

have you tired a data reset?
just backup first (incase it doesn't work) factory/data-reset, wipe partition cache and dalvik cache.
if it doesn't work you can restore your backup to get back where you are now.

I haven't tried that. I appreciate the advice but this is usually the first thing Sprint tech support would recommend. I come to XDA for better suggestions
Besides, I can't easily make a backup, I'm rooted but still have stock recovery so no way to make a true backup.

Absolutely true, though sometimes the easiest and most obvious steps are actually the ones that work.
good luck, I hope you find a solution that works for you.

[Q] Major WiFi issue out of nowhere?

Hey all. I need some advice. This morning my G3 (D850) dropped WiFi connection for no reason. It says the signal is good but the network info says saved, secured. It will attempt to connect over and over again and if it does connect the signal is weak as can be and it drops the connection within 2 seconds. My coworker has a G3 also and is connected to the same work network I am. His connection says excellent where as mine said good. His device connects just fine with full bars. I'm baffled. I've already tried manually selecting 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz instead of auto select and that didn't help at all. I've tried manually turning off WiFi and turning it back on. I've tried turning airplane mode on and then off to refresh the connection and that didn't help. I've done a battery pull as someone in one of the android authority forums suggested that (apparently I am not the only one having this issue.), didn't work. I've unchecked WiFi optimization - no dice. There was another post on a different forum here on XDA that said turning off WiFi and then deleting the WiFi config folder located in data/etc/wifi and then rebooting fixed the issue for them so I tried that. After reboot when I tried to turn on WiFi my G3 rebooted itself. Does it everytime. SO, I had to restore to a nandroid backup (btw I'm on rooted stock 10f) to get the phone to stop hating my WiFi toggle attempts. Last ditch effort I did a factory reset hoping for an easy fix... Nope. I don't know what else to try. It was fine yesterday all day. This morning it was perfectly fine and then randomly started having this issue. I haven't altered any system files whatsoever. I really don't want to send my device to LG for warranty replacement so I'm hoping someone can help me out that may have had this issue and resolved it. The only difference between my device and my coworkers device is he is still on 10d and I am on 10f. That could be the issue I guess but that doesn't really explain why my device has been perfectly fine until this morning and I've been on rooted 10f for weeks. I am planning on flashing back to straight bone factory stock 10d when I get home here in a few hours from work but Idk if that will help or not. Judging from the amount of google search results of "LG G3 WiFi connection problems" this seems to be an issue for several people. I won't know if it's on the software side or hardware side until I get home but in the meantime has anyone had these issues at all? People have had success in changing to Static IP but I would have to do that for every connection I attempt to connect to and that's a pain in the a$$. Also, that does nothing to identify the root cause of the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks for the reply. So it turned out my phone just randomly decided it doesn't like my work network anymore. Idk why lol. I got home and it hooked right into WiFi. Gf's WiFi and open networks as well. I call shenanigans. I went ahead and flashed back to 10d anyway though.

I am having the same issue! But it is happening in other networks too...sometimes I get the phone to connect but it only works for a while and when I check the networks it only says Saved, even if I try to connect again
Having the same issue, whether at work or home, my wifi has become near useless. I've even gone as far as trying a different ROM. Didn't work.
Same thing here
I also have tried factory reset, installed a new ROM, changed settings in my router... but the problem remains I don't know what to do anymore, I use wifi a lot!! I searched through other topics but no one seem to know how to solve it. Unfortunately my warranty already expired, I took my phone to some technicians but honestly it didn't help at all...they all said it was a software bug and I should wait for an update but if it was just that a new ROM would fix it,right?
I am not very familiar with phone hardware but I assume that if it was a hardware problem I wouldn't be able to turn it on or connect to any network, right?? (any experts here???)
Any solution is welcomed.
anyone please?? :crying:
P.S : I tried a new baseband, new kernel and new ROMs. So far, nothing changed.
I can connect sometimes but get kicked out within minutes. At other times I only get the saved, secured message.
This is happening in every network
