What version of PC Companion did you have and what version it was updated? I've v2.01.149.
EDIT: As I posted this, my PC Companion got updated to v2.01.173. Not a major change! Bug fixed??

Na, seems fake as no change in the built number or other stuff.
...not fake I'm still not completely sure as to how it was updated to 2.3.3. When i got the phone from rogers it was at 2.3.2 all i remember doing is plugging it into PC companion and then bam update.
Maybe its region specific?

Even though it's region specific, I still feel that there should be change in the built number.

One thing has diffinitly changes it the PC companion desktop shortcut icon from a phone with lots of hardware keys to a full touch screen phone.
I tried to repair and see if a unlocked bootloader is allowed to repair with this version and it still says I have modified software installed.
Just thought I would share.
no update available for rogers users

Just updated PC Companion and plugged my Arc in. I also checked for system updates. Still on Android 2.3.2.
I cant imagine that PC companion will be a sign of a firmware update, its more for connecting your phone and syncing it than anything else. Its SEUS that deals with the updates
Just had my xperia play from 02 unlocked to all networks when i put my usb in then press search it turns blue so i dont know if the bootloader has been unlocked? Im wanting to upgrade to software 4.0.A.2.368 but i have read that sony are saying not to upgrade if bootloader is unlocked http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions ?
what shall i do ? please help
If your bootloader is unlocked you can't update over the air, ie. on the phone itself.
You can still install all the updates you want using the computer.
Since you get the blue light you must be unlocked.
As for needing it, not especially. I like the newest things so I did, fixed some bugs I had.

Thank you so if I update using sony erricson software I will be ok ?
I can't really help, but for what it is worth I upgraded my O2 Play when I got it a few days ago. It is locked to O2. The upgrade was painless, but the first boot after the upgrade did take a long time. Just long enough to get you worried.
It should be fine updating using pc companion. Just wondering. How did you unlock your xperia play as I'm thinking about doing the same?

Hello guys.
I was screwing around with system files on my rooted Xperia Arc S.
I used ROM Toolbox to set the LCD density to 340.
It asked me to reboot my device so I did.
When my phone turned back on, everything was zoomed in.
I can't see my slider, I can't pull down notifications, I cant do anything.
PLEASE HELP!!! I'm really desperate.
I tried rebooting phone, turning it off, removing MicroSD...
:crying::crying::crying:
You must flash stock rom via flashtool. Everything is already on xda you have to search

I'm using a Mac and my boot loader is still locked because I couldn't find anything for Mac.
Please help!!!
You should be able to log into your phone by pressing settings on your SystemUI assuming you have no security option set. Try that and see if you can navigate to ROM toolbox to change the LCD density.
The best remedy is to flash a build.prop to fix the LCD density back to 240.
EDIT: Just noticed you cant pull down the notification bar. Flashing a build.prop is the way to go then.

Can you give me more specific info on how to flash the build.prop onto my phone?

First of all doesnt Sony have software for Mac called bridge or something like that?
Before you read anything below try this to unlock your phone; have someone call you and while the phone is ringing press the home button. Maybe you can then navigate to settings to temporarily disable security and to ROM toolbox to fix your LCD density.
Anyway regardless to get a build.prop you're gonna need to ask someone to extract their build.prop, put it in a flashable zip and send you a link to download so you can flash it via CWM. I'm currently not at a computer and I have an LT15a so idk if you'd like your phone to be recognized as a north American phone. What region are you from btw?

My SIM card has a lock on it so I can't even dial myself. FML.
I'm from Singapore.
Ok.
First try installing this on your mac and see if you can either repair or update your phone with it.

If not we're gonna need to get a build.prop from an lt18i. You have CWM on your phone right?

If u are rooted, use Droid manager. i found it around XDA is a pc program that let you explore your phone so u can go into system, take out the build prop, and edit the LCD density

Hello
I always connected the phone to the TV, but after the last official update i never got it. I get the error "device not recognized" or then it does not give any signal. (I'm using the USB cable, in the PC works fine). I always connect to the TV, before the last update.
Android Version:
4.2.2 (Official)
Software Number:
4.17.161.2
Can anyone help me?
(sorry for my bad english)
Probably because in the last update the usb diskdrive is taken out and officially only mtp is in.
With a custom kernel you can let the os mount as usb mass storage

Hi guys, i have a UK EE htc m8 gun metal gray and have been using since launch day. I am very happy with the phone. One issue only as in the UK we only have the 16gb version available. the application storage space is an issue so i wanted to root my phone so i can make use of my 128gb micro sd card i have purchased to install apps & media. I have looked everywhere and all the threads are covering american at&t or verison only. Maybe i havent looked at the right place yet. Can any one help me root my phone (who has experience of this issue from a uk point of veiw) so i can make use of apps & data to micro sd. I am very new to rooting & moding and this would be my first time. I would greatly appreciate if there is anybody who can assist. One other question is as i use my credit card to purchase from online google play store, amazon would there be a security risk for me by rooting. Thank you guys for your time and you can msg me anytime.

Hi Shah Dawon
I can see from your original post you are considering rooting your M8.
Have you, or will you be doing a backup of the stock rom? If so would you consider letting me have a copy of it to allow me to return my phone to stock.
Thanks

Thanks again.
Someone referred to the hasoon unlock tool, but I haven't been able to get that to work.
I followed the instructions, fastboot off, usb debugging on (I'm on windows 8.1), tried it with all of my laptops USB ports (my phone pics/movies are backed up).
Installed the HTC driver, rebooted(the unlocker tool says it's windows 8 compatible), ran everything as administrator
registered at htc dev
ran the "get token ID", and the command prompt is giving me an error, the whole window reads
"daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
daemon started successfully
error: device not found"
I've noticed in an instructional video on youtube, when the individual plugs his phone into his windows 7 PC, he gets an immediate prompt on his phone allowing that PC debug access @ 4:53 in the video . ( youtube.com/watch?v=FsOaRQoJWWDw I don't get that RSA key prompt, so I'm assuming that's where my problem is?
Anyone know how to fix that? I've tried reinstalling the HTC drivers, rebooting both devices, and revoking certifficates
running win 8.1 x64, pretty standard these days
software version 2.16.651.4
android 4.4.3
I'm not even trying to do anything that crazy, except put the harmon karmon software on my sprint m8

I unlocked my HTC One M8 (from EE) using HTCDev the day after I got it, have been rooted, ran custom Roms, obtained S-Off and now back at stock S-Off.
The only thing about doing it this way is that HTC may have a record of you unlocking your bootloader.
I don't have any experience in doing it any other way (I try and stay away from Toolkits as I find it is better to learn adb and fastboot so you know exactly what you are doing, and it will also help in fixing things if they go wrong).
Thanks for your input I really appreciate it. Can you possibly give a step by step as im new to this. And also would there be a security issue with purchasing from online using personal banking details like amazon, google play etc... Thank you for your responce.

If you want to unlock the official way (HTC may know you have done this) and root, this tells you all you need to know: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/vomerguides-m8-bootldr-unlock-s-off-t2800727
If you don't want to use HTCDev unlocking, your only other real option is obtaining S-Off (via Firewater - may not work on your device, or Sunshine - will work on your device but costs $25).
One thing I will say before attempting ANYTHING is, Read, Read, Read, then Read again.
Make sure you are 100% sure you know what you are doing before attempting anything.
Couple of tips:
1. Make a note of your original CID (fastboot getvar cid) - if its EE it will probably be ORANG001.
2. If you get a custom recovery installed, make a backup of your stock ROM, and keep it somewhere safe - it might be handy to get you out of any problems.
In regards to your other questions: as soon as you root your device you are opening up a potential security risk as apps that ask for root could potentially have access to EVERYTHING on your phone (once you have given it root permissions). I am sure 99.9999999999% of apps that you install from Google Play are totally safe, but you never know.
Some mobile banking apps will not work on rooted devices (Barclays for instance) so be aware of that too!
Hope this helps some!
Stewart
