Hi, I have searched and searched but cannot find any info about any difference between the 1st and 2nd gen kindle fire digitizers.
Everywhere seems to advertise the digitizers they have as 1st gen and when people ask if they will fit the 2nd gen they say no, it will only fit 1st gen kindle fires.
From the language they use, I can't help thinking that they are referring to the HD or something when they say it won't fit 2nd gen devices.
I did find one place selling parts for the real second gen and the digitizers looks identical to the ones sold by others as 1st gen touch screens, the connectors look the same, everything.
It makes me feel the parts are the same but does anyone here know for sure?
I can't buy from the sole seller I have found specifically selling kf2 parts as he is in the states and I am in the UK else I would have already bought one.
Any help will be graciously received.
Thanks, steve.

Hi, I'm in exactly the same position and cannot figure out the difference. Did you get anywhere with this? Will a digitizer advertised as 1st gen work on a second gen (2012) kindle fire?
Hope you can help,
Cheers,
Really eager to know if the 1st gen ones work for the 2nd gen. I have also scoured the internet and am in completely the same mindeset as you were when you started this thread, having had the same replies from sellers and come to the same conclusion. I'm thinking I might just give a 1st gen digitizer a whirl, but it would really help if you could confirm/refute whether that would be successful.
Thanks.

OK then, fine, I'll answer my own question...
After much searching and scratching of head (and distinct lack of help on any forum I posted on, including XDA ) I found what appeared to be convincing evidence on the internet of a discernible difference between digitizers for the two different models. It would appear that the difference (and what makes the two incompatible) lies with the flex ribbon design. The first gen flex is bigger and the screw holes are in a different place. I have attached two images and it should be quite easy to see what I mean between the two.
To replace mine I ordered one with the correct looking flex. I ensured from my seller that it would be exactly the same as the image as advertised (gotta cover yourself, right). It was not advertised as being 2nd generation and when I asked the seller I was told it was not compatible. I threw caution to the wind and gave it a try. It turned up a couple days later and worked a treat. The only difference between the one I bought and the one already on my tablet was that the new one had a camera 'hole' in the top left corner. I figured it might be for a light sensor or something though mine did not possess such sensor a guess there may have been a few incantations of the 'same' hardware version.
The images I have uploaded are not my own, rather pilfered from the internet, credit to the owner. I also must stress that I do not own a 1st generation device to confirm that this is the case for certain, so maybe someone who does own one could confirm.
Anyway, I hope that helps somebody out who is in the same position that I was a couple of weeks ago.

So I have apparently ruined my KF. Details fall under this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34584686#post34584686 if you care to look/help.
But what I am interested in is if I can replace my KF for free with the 1 year warranty.
I know this would be cheating, but can I loosen the micro usb port and get a new or refurb model of the 1st gen KF?
My uncle purchased it through Amazon as a christmas present last year for me. I have the case still, with the original charging cable and the little manual in the sleeve at the top of the box. I don't see any actual paperwork that shows proof of purchase, serial number, or anything like that.
I don't think this falls outside the lines of allowability, but if it does, I am sorry moderators.
Has anyone done this or know if it works?
And I know that this is a bad practice, but I have next to no money, and since about June, I have been using my KF for everything, and I need it replaced, so I am trying to go about this through cheating. Please don't put posts about how this is why there are locked bootloaders and all that. I know...

Amazon probably won't touch it if it's not fully stock.

I've read reports everywhere of people sending it in and getting it replaced...
Hopefully someone can say whether they were able to replace theirs.
Your kindle isn't that bad relax don't do much until you get help pm sent. Panic won't help the situation.
Unread your private messages.
Firstly I apologize if this has been covered, I really can't seem to find it.
My USB connector is broken. Considering the cost of a replacement connector, I was wondering if it's possible to swap a 2nd generation motherboard into a 1st gen unit because the extra RAM would be nice. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks.
Followup:
Upon further investigation on kf2 forum, it seems like the corporate giant that Amazon is doesn't want anyone modding their products so that they might be used to their full potential. Without a guarantee that the motherboard could be used with custom ROMs even if it can be swapped means it's not worth the risk.
lol! funny guy!

In case anyone is wondering, the folks at PowerBookMedic said there are enough minor differences between 1st gen and 2nd gen motherboards that they aren't interchangeable.
kindle hd7 motherboard swap
I bricked my kindle (rookie mistake), can I swap a 4th gen logic board for a 5th gen? I'm thinking if I can replace the board I can get it running again, does that sound correct?
My question is that, when I turn on my LCD it goes black and I don't know why? Even I have been trying to solve it but no chance. I want anybody to help me and I bought this LCD TV from amazon recently by following this: Best 3d TV's
And now this is happening with me I want to get it solved. Still, no response from any guy.
I have asked this question in many forms. I am very upset.
And what does this have to do with the Nvidia Shield TV?
Ask customer support of the Manufacturer or where you bought it
I ordered the 4K stick with TV remote control as a backup device to my 2nd gen Sloan box (still scared to try and root it by opening the actual box up, hell to the no. If anyone could maybe simplify or point me to a guide other than the one posted by the root OP thread, cuz that still confused me on how to do this without bricking /breaking it I’d appreciate it), but anyway, I noticed after all those Amazon prime deal sales they went out of stock until February 17th. So although it’s purchased and ordered it won’t be here for a few more weeks which makes me worried about which firmware it’ll come in as I’m guessing these new 4K sticks are being freshly made as we speak from the factory and will come with the latest firmware, right? Otherwise how else will they bring more devices to re-stock, I doubt they have older made ones layout around somewhere that they’re shipping in? Lol
I’m so pissed I didn’t order when they had prime deal as these must’ve been sitting in the warehouse for awhile on a lower and probably root-able firmware.
Also if anyone is interested in getting one I believe only the 4K stick at $49.99 will auto apply a $20 discount making it $39.99, works as of 2/10/21

Nope, I doubt that the stick is vulnerable, amaz. fixed it months ago.
Best is if you return that stick and then go for a vulnerable used/second hand one...
Hello,
Thank you in advance to anyone who can assist. I have an older model Kindle Fire HDX (3rd Generation) with the 7" screen. Model number starts with "D0FB". Recently the battery has started to fail and no longer holds a charge for any length of time. Everything else about it still works perfectly. I called Amazon and they no longer support this model or carry replacement parts for it, but of course I can upgrade to a new model at a marginal discount because Capitalism! I was hoping someone could direct me to the correct battery for my Fire. I've checked Amazon, eBay and other online retailers and there are lots of variations, some of which I suspect are not legit because the seller spells "Kindle" incorrectly. I just want to make sure I buy the right battery and it won't brick my device. Again I thank you in advance for any assistance.
