[Q] Digitizer works fine, phone flashes display then goes blank. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
My sprint S3 recently quit showing it's display. If I push the power button to wake up the screen, the display will flash for a moment then go blank.
I swapped out the mid case/ digitizer from a working phone, and the problem still exists. The problem is somewhere on the motherboard card.
Any ideas on a fix? Re-bake the board?
I just want to get my information transferred to a new phone, but I also have the dreaded USB port problem.
Thanks.

from what i have seen in the forums, if it's the motherboard it's better to get a new phone....

Well, I did get another phone. I'm trying to figure out how to get the files that are on my old phone. Kinda hard when there is no display and the USB doesn't work.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

screen wont turn on...

i dropped my phone and since then the screen refuses to turn on. it seems like everything is working fine except the screen. calls are coming through and im able to answer the call as long as i swipe at the right spot. is this something that can be fixed instead of swapping out the phone? if this cant be fixed and i have to get a new unit, can the sprint technicians be able to somehow transfer everything over to the new phone? btw, my phone is rooted with cwm installed and nandroid backed up to internal storage since i have no sd card installed.
If you can connect via USB you can grab the data from internal storage possibly, but it sounds like, at best, your display has a hardware issue ( strange that the touch works but the display doesn't)
But I see a trip to the phone store in your future.
If you can, I'd recommend booting to the boot loader (pwr-voldown) and using Odin to flash a stock from first so you can at least have the chance of getting a warranty replacement. ("Not sure what happennes, the screen just doesn't work anymore...")
Good luck.

Sounds like something with the connection between the LCD and the motherboard. You could get lucky and only have to reconnect the LCD's ribbon connection, however, if the LCD is cracked in any way, it would have to be a replacement, that is, if they allow replacements on cracked LCDs. Every ASC location is different. The only way to transfer anything would be to connect it to a PC, like he said in the above post, and hope it connects as USB storage by default. Copy everything to the desktop and then drag-and-drop onto the new phone's storage. But dude, get an SD card. It really makes EVERYTHING so much easier when transferring to a new phone.
The LED back light system and the touchscreen are independent of each other. Sounds to me like the connection to the back lights and the power got disconnected.

that is exactly what it seems like. can i take it into a sprint store and have it repaired or do i need to send it off?
As long as there is no physical damage then I would say its repairable. If you have ever seen a smartphone dissembled you should go check it out on you tube. Alot of the connectors are very small and easily popped out.

[Q] Screen's gone fuzzy and weird - Solved

My Captivate Glide's screen does this whenever I turn it on:
I didn't drop it or get it wet, it just started doing this randomly.
I live in the UK and ordered the phone unlocked over eBay so I can't take it into an AT&T store, sadly.
Do you guys know if there's anything I could do myself or anything someone more experienced in repairing mobile phones could do to fix the screen?
This is bearing in mind that not many people over here have seen one of these phones though.
Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks guys.
you was using still GB right? just flash ics via odin, with one click or with a tar file
This is UCLH2 without one click
http://androidromupdate.com/2012/09/...ota-stock-rom/
And here is the latest version with bug fixes (like keyboard light)
http://androidromupdate.com/2012/11/...ptivate-glide/
and there is for one click
http://www.androidauthority.com/captivate-glide-sgh-i927-att-android-4-0-4-ics-uclg9-leak-110365/
i think that only one click wipe your internal storage. but is the bes (in my opinion). try it, dont have anything to lose
No, I already updated it to ICS. Should I reinstall it? Will that fix the screen? How will I manage to do it with the screen all messed up?
if you can put in download mode, then you can. Its weird because i only see that problem with GB. Put in download mode and then reinstall
I just tried putting it into download mode but I get the exact same thing.
Thats weird, the problem is weird because it never happen to me in download mode, maybe you can try it without battery, or let the phone without battery a couple of hours, etc.
Dont Know what you cand o, because if you cant enter in download mode, you will be no able to flash ICS
Hrm... that purple splotch in the bottom left of the screen doesn't look so good... Almost appears as if it had been dropped on that corner at some point in the phone's history. I am tempted to say that is a hardware issue, though. Reminds me of when the flex cable for my laptop's display started shorting out many years ago. Might be repairable, but, might be a costly repair depending on what all needs to be replaced. I can't imagine replacing the software on it will do much, though, sorry to say. You could give it a shot, you can verify if your phone made it into download mode without the display by loading up odin and seeing if it detects under that, and then running the one click install (or any other since you'd have odin running anyway) but I wouldn't expect much.
If you're not getting the Samsung/Rogers logo screen, you're done. Either the screen is physically damaged, or the bootloader is corrupt. There's no saving that one, sadly.
yes, try what Artemis-kun say. put in download mode and connect, and see if odin detected. Or maybe just turn on the phone and wait a little, then try to call to your phone, if the phone ring or appears to be on, then is a hardware problem.
But try what Artemis-kun, maybe you have luck
PD: now i see better the image and it seems little different from what it happens to me. if you turn on, inmediatly happen that? or screen banish slowly?
AW: [Q] Screen's gone fuzzy and weird - need help please
There should be a cable, connecting the hardware to the display. Maybe it loosened, you should check out the video of a guy tearing his glide apart, hopefully youll find something to repair there.

Hey guys, you'll be glad to hear I finally fixed my Glide by installing a new screen assembly from Repairs Universe.

[Q] Galaxy mega touch screen not working

I received a phone that the lower part of the Digi was non responsive. So i ordered a new LCD/Digi part and installed it. After first installing the part the Digi was not functional at all on the new screen. So I figured that the part was just dysfunctional and i would send it back.
But I was curious and did some other tests. I put the old screen back on and it partially worked. Then without powering down the note 2 i switched the screens. Now the part i ordered worked perfectly! The home buttons even started working(they didn't work with the other screen).
So i think i have solved the problem, WRONG, i then took the battery out to insert sim car and finish closing up the device. When i put the battery back in to restart the old screen was back to malfunctioning. Also the home buttons stopped working.
Is this an internal problem or is it just a bad LCD/Digi?
Thanks

I thought so too. But then why does the other screen partially work? And if it is a RAM problem how would i go about fixing this issue?

[Q] Help! Phone boots and is recognized by computer but no image

Hello there
Im hoping that someone here can help me since im ready to seel the pho for spare parts... i've tried it all.
Heres the deal:
- The phone boots well and if i connect it through usb to the computer i can even access the folders and all.
- I can take photos (i her the sound of the shutter and all and see the piics taken in the folder when connected to the computer) and screnshots
- I managed to restore the phone back to original settings and even update software with sony official soft.
- Inicialy i bought the phone as faulty to try and fix it since the buyer informed me there was no water damage ( and i can confirm this because the "stickers" only show white). He informed that the phone just stoped showing image on screen.
- I thought it was a problem with the LCd so i bought a new one and replace it. The problem persists. Everything works but the screen.
Any toughts on this one? Could the motherboard be faulty in only one place (image, proximity sensor, etc)?
Thanks for you time
Regards

I have fully same faulty 2nd "spare parts" phone.
All works except screen, all as you described.
I checked, in my case problem definitely in screen because if connect main board to really working LCD panel = screen ok.
And vice versa: if connect normal main board to this probably faulty screen = black screen.
Maybe here broken flexible connector.
Also nothing interesting related to this case in service documents.

[Q] Stuck in boot load after screen replacement

So, my screen cracked by itself but I didnt get it fixed on the warranty.
Anyway, I bought a new screen from ebay, seemed allright.
Got it yesterday. Took off the old cracked screen, maybe a bit hard cause now its super broken.
When I put the new one in the phone doesnt boot. Just shows the Sony logo then reboots in infinity.
I did PC Companion repair which didnt say anything special just that it got the work done. Still the same problem.
Did the Sony Emma program which should flash the phone the offical way, right? No problem according to the program but when I try to start the phone the same problem.
Tried flashtool and flashed the phone with official..hmm ftf file. Still the same problem.
If I connect the old, very broken, screen the screen lights up all the time on the back side of the screen (the screen doesnt show anything on front side since its really broken) but dont know really if it kind of works.
So, did I screw up the phone when I took the screen off and broke something or could a faulty screen (the new one) actually be what causes the boot loop? That seems weird to me but i gotta ask. If the phone was really dead Emma or flashtool would say so right?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Some new information. With the old broken screen I can connect the phone to the computer and the phone pops up in explorer. Which it doesnt with the new screen. Bloody what,

Is the "new" display unit original from Sony or a chinese replicat?
If not original, i think it is a hardware problem (chinese crap...)

Yes, its a chinese copy. So that is probably my problem.
But since it will take months to get a new one any other ideas would be very nice.
Its just weird to me how the screen causes reboots, but I guess thats it.
Hi, did you manage to get it working with an original screen?
I have the identical problem.
Same problem
I have the same problem has anyone resolved the issue
Thanks in advance
