Sense framework on a custom ROM - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I'm curious - is it possible for a developer to integrate the Sense framework into a ROM so that apps written for Sense would work. Also, if this was possible, would BlinkFeed have to be included? Thanks.

Do you mean for a non-HTC phone? Probably not.

More than likely, No.

People have tried porting sense to other phones and they never, NEVER could get everything working cause of drivers.

The partition sizes would be a stopper.

How about an HTC phone with Sense firmware? It should be possible if the only problem are the sizes of partitions.

Why are you being cryptic? Just tell us exactly what it is you are trying to achieve. It'll be so much easier to give you advice that way.

you don't need to build the sense framework on a custom rom......HTC did that for you already. All the custom sense 6 roms are build from the original stock one that HTC released.

I'm planning to create a Sense ROM with the stock Android UI. Basically, it's CyanogenMod with the HTC kernel and framework, so that apps written for Sense can run on this ROM while the ROM itself looks mostly like stock Android.
Sorry if anything is hard to understand. English isn't my native language.

I see what you're saying... It's like when I had my S4. Having a MIUI rom based of Touchwiz witch means TW camera and apps worked on MIUI.
I don't know if it works for Sense but you may try... Use CM as a based and use a stock Sense rom with the same android version and see if it works out for you... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245786

Alright. I'll give it a try, good to know that my idea isn't stupid. What about licensing though? Do I have to ask for permission from HTC to use Sense in my ROM?

Seeing as GPE Roms for HTC can only support a small assortment of HTC Apps even with the HTC Service Pack I don't feel that it will be possible. I've heard of people using Sense Roms and then using Rom Cleaner to make them look more to stock, but thats still considered a sense ROM.

yes I am talking about multitaking.....apk close when 3 or 4 apk r running in background. .......
Sense 3.5 had bad multitasking due to high resources needed for 3d rosie and else..
If you want good multitasking, you can use sense 2.1 rom or hybrid sense 2.1 + 3.0.
Or you can use sense 1.9 for better multitasking..

You can use RCMixTweaks under Settings (if your ROM has it installed) to change 3D effects to 2D to save resources for multitasking.

I would choose CM7 because of the relative speed vs tweak options in it, but that's me. Check the Desire Index thread for the list of AOSP to try.. it seems to be updated now.
In AOSP I would think CM7 as the bloated one because of the tweaks they have in it. Go with Oxygen or Redux2 or dGB for more barebones Android experience.

No, coz Android 3-4 uses .apk's wat doesn't work on earlier versions of Android, tried. And IF it would work, there will be no widgets etc. coz it's another Sense version.
Ok which means I guess it correct different system framework

Think about apps wat are ported from ICs, for example Google Music. No root needed, and it don't need any system framework changing.

Sorry to break your hopes....but altough the Desire C is MDPI......It still is an ARMv7 device..The people over at the wildfire s forum tried to port it without any luck....It would require certain Sense files to be Backported for ARMv6
Also the Sense 4 in Desire C is a stripped down version

Lets just put it this way......it's like Sense 3.5 ......It doesn't have much good features as the Sense 3.6,from which it is stripped down
It means lesser animations customisations etc
But it is still better than nothing

These both were a launcher port.
Fpr sense you need the whole rom as sense apps need sense framework to run.

Hey can you help me strip it down even more? I've got the core of port finished.
Im still deodexing, the app folder is around 200mb! I see a lot of unnecessary apps, but even if i bring it down, it probably be around 170mb-ish
But that's just app folder, frameworks are around 30mb, plus the entire system folder.
So were looking at still around 200mb of sense 4... How did you slim yours down?
and thats the desire C version(slim)?
wont work ever with one x apps, but you may need to wipe anything up to 30 mb I think, ~170 is max

Do you look features after rom flash?

I've been reading a lot of threads trying to find the right stable rom for me, but I have a few concerns. If I where to wipe the default rom for a xda dev rom would I lose the beats audio functionality? Also would I lose the htc camera app for stock android camera app instead?
If the answer is yes for one of the above, is there a modified stable version of sense 4.0 for cdma that cuts the bloat but keeps beats and the camera app?

[Q] Is there a way to get all the benifits of AOSPA with Sense 6?

I really like how sense 6 is set up, much better than stock android even. I also really like how aospa allowed me to customize a lot of the visuals and screen management on a per-app basis. Is there a way to at least emulate Paranoid Preferences, Hybrid mode etc. while keeping Sense? Thank you so much!
Edit: sorry if this is incoherent, or just plain stupid. Finals have me a bit scrambled.
I think there's an Xposed module called App Settings which let's you do per app DPI and some other stuff. Never used it but it might do what you're after.
