When Phone is off and plug usb cable, screen STUCK on "warranty bit kernel" - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
My problem is the following.
After installing CyanogenMod 10.2.1.3 I noticed a little problem. Whenever I plug the usb cable phone when it is off, screen stuck on "set warranty bit: kernel" with the empty battery icon.
The phone reboot normally after disconnecting the cable.
For information, I bought my phone with I9195XXUCNH5.
Is there a fix ?
Thanks

That "" set warranty bit "" means you have a custom kernel installed. To remove that you have to flash stock firmware which means you will lose root and recovery.

Hi,
Yes I know, I always have this message when I turn on my phone, its not a problem. I just describe the screen when it stuck.
I have this problem only when I turned off my phone and plug my usb cable.

I did notice that on my phone. That is 'offline charging'. Charging while device is switched off.

Ok, and what is your solution ? Because this notification don't desappear and phone stays alight indefinitely.
And I want to keep this version of cyanogen.

I noticed this while on stock rom. It is not possible to remove that sign without losing root and custom rom/recovery.

You don't understand. The probleme is not the message with "set wrranty bit : kernel"
Problem is the stuck on the battery icon

Then the screen is not stuck. That is called offline charging as i mentioned earlier. Once or twice I got out of that screen by pressing and holding power key until screen turns off.
Then I pressed power again and it booted back to system.

Ok you need to read please, he never mentioned unplugging the cable, while it is plugged in and "STUCK" as you describe, press and hold power button. That will turn it off, straight after screen goes black release and press and hold again until vibe is felt, it should boot then. If it doesnt work its a kernel issue with not being able to boot while plugged in. What kernel are you running? And is it official or unofficial cm10?
Sora.

Hi
Reboot is not the problem, i can reboot the phone when cable is plugged or unplugged when screen is stuck.
I just want to charge my phone when it is off without this animation. My only solution for the moment is to reboot my phone and continue charging
I think s4 mini "black edition" doesnt support off charging with CM 10.2.1.3 (official, and official kernel). Because I never had this problem with my previous s4 mini "normal" under CM 102.1.3
I tried CM12 with S4mini black edition and i dont have this problem.
So i think the problem is CM10.2.1.3 + s4 mini black edition
Is it more clear ? Sorry im french.

Sorry so are you saying the screen stays on, on that screen with set warranty bit: kernel and battery logo? Hmm that is an issue.
By black edition do you just mean the colour or what because as far as im concerned the s4 mini lte's are all the same??
Edit: looked up the black edition: the only different is the case and color, iut is still the same hardware this has nothing to do with anything.
Sora.

For you fisrt question : yes
For the second, I mean black edition is most recent that my old s4 mini buy last year.
And I think new security norm included in new ROMS can create incompatibility with older versions of CM, like 10.2.
Result could be the same if you ugrade S4 mini normal with latest official firwire and put CM10.2
Im not sure to be clear in english...

Right, well thats a problem as I said mostlikely a kernel issue, maybe try a custom kernel for cm10 instead of stock cm10 kernel and see if that fixes your issue.
Yes only difference between black and norm is firmware is new with knox and the colour and back case with faux leather, so really no difference.
Let me know if custom kernel works or not for you.
Sora.

Problem is the same with f4ktion kernel. I didnt try an other one.
Wich one you advise me?

I don't use cm10 so I couldn't say sorry. Ask in the kernel thread to see if others have the same issue. Call it offline charging screen stays on.

[Q] Boot problem with my p6

Hey guys,
I was running blueandroid custom rom on my p6 and it was all working fine. suddenly my phone shut down and since that moment i can't find a way to turn it on further then the huawei logo. pressing all three buttons for the forced update doesn't work. and i can't get in recovery. It simply doesn't make it till that point. sometimes it shows a random color (the whole screen) but most of the time it just shuts down at the huawei logo... i also tried fastboot but it doesn't get recognized...
could anyone help me?
i'd really aprecciate it.
Are you able to use adb?
If yes, try to flash twrp recovery via ADB.
Instructions in forum thread. (I think 2nd post)

Is your p6 low on battery? If it is, charge it up before trying to get to recovery.

It doesnt charge ( the led doesnt turn on and im pretty sure that doesnt) and i havent been able to try adb. Its also quite strange that it wont be in a stable recovery mode ( or fastboot mode) since it turn itself off after 10/20 seconds.
getting really lost
So guys,
i'm really starting to think i need to bring mine to the service center cus it's completely dead.
it won't charge, it doens't get into recovery mode, i can't flash the official firmware with the sdcart/dload/update.app way, i can't fastboot it cus it won't go in fastboot mode (the way it get stuck on the splash screen/huawei logo), and it shuts itself down after 20 seconds leaving nothing else then a black but brightened screen.....
i'm afraid i have to take full costs due my root and custom rom, if they can fix/see it at all.
it worked fine after all and shut down with no reason what makes me think this is a hardware problem.
does anyone else have any suggestions before i bring it to the service center?
thanks
Let it charge for 24 hours, see if you can turn it on after that.

But thats's ok, this is a common android problem, but some phone must be charged for al least two days, and after that try to flash another ROM. Even if the led is not always on, let it for a long time to charge, trust me, the power will be inside your battery, not full but enough to resist/handle a new ROM flashing.

Yea i know that... But it doesnt show the led when i charge it (so the led has nothing to do with the charging state of the phone), only in some cases when i try to boot into recovery. And the battery cant actually be totally empty, it was 40% when it totally crashed so i dont think thats the problem. And if so, it should at least get to the point where it is trying to flash the original firmware

Im trying to flash it thru the sdcard with the update.app in sdcart/dload/update.app but to do that, you have to put in a certain mode (by holding vol+ and vol- and the power button) . But once again, i cant put the phone in A state, doesnt matter which state. It just wont get in a stable mode. Thats why i cant use fastboot/adb

So guys,
Im going to the service center in 8 hours since my phone is completely DEAD. It doest charge and it does not even react to the power button anymore... (Probably cus the battery is completely drained), it doesnt react to anything else either (usb, power net, anything) and will nog be able to fix by connecting it thru a computer. Aka its hopeless...
Thanks for the support
Ive been to the service center, got a new phone directly, so everything is solved. For the information, my problem was a (like i expected) hardware problem, and there was NO way to fix without replacing hardware.

Problem with charging !!

Can someone please help.
I flush new rom everything working fine but it's one problem.
When I turn on my tablet on the screen is little line flicker .
Second problem is when I try charging battery and my tablet it's switch off and I plug the cable tablet switch on why ? Please some advice
Hi, screen goes allways on, if you plug a charging cable in, that`s normaly, and part of Android, you can`t trigger this off.....sorry, .....If yout urn on the tablet, there is a little flicker you say ? Just a short one, and then it`s ok? Maybe it can be part of a compatibility Problem with the wall paper, you have there and the screen orientation,, or other reasons.....if there are not more flickers, this should be not really a problem.....Maybe, you can try another Wallpaper.....
Gesendet von meinem SM-P600 mit Tapatalk
it happens to mine also, because of flashing the roms and what not. its at the boot up samsung screen right?
Hi how I can trigger this off ? Can you tell me please thanks anyway

What he meant was that the tablet turns on when he plugs in a charger when the tablet is OFF... Not on with the screen off , but completely off. Mine does this too and it's really annoying cause it causes it to take longer to charge... This is NOT normal android behavior.
Known problem: You was on the android 4.3 rom and flashed a kikkat based rom. You should have flashed a kitkat based stock rom first and then reinstall twrp and then install your custom rom of choise.
So to fix your problem: download a stock kitkat rom from sammobile.com and flash it with odin. Flash TWRP and your custom rom after that. Problem fixed
That will solve the turning on when plugged in issue? Will the fix still work if we Odin a stock rom and reinstall twrp then restore a trwp backup of our current rom?
Update: Does it matter which stock rom? I didn't see any listed that said it was from the US for the SM-P600.

Yes that will fix it. It does not matter if you are installing twrp after that. Search for "XAR" firmware / Cellular South.
That should be the right one from the US

Device semi hard bricked?

Hello,
i have a huge problem with my s4 mini. The device wasn´t rooted, neither it has a custom recovery. It´s simple stock. But a few days ago, it turns off by itself and didn´t boot anymore. It stuck at the first Samsung logo, then it vibrate and reboots. I also don´t come in recovery anymore. Same here, it vibrate after 5 seconds an then reboots.
I read across the internet and found, that maybe the power button is damaged, but knocking on it etc. doesn´t help. I also successful flashed a new stock image with odin, but it didn´t help (so downloadmode is working fine). Any ideas what i can do? Maybe it´s the battery - the device is more than 2 years old, but battery isn´t blown up.
Edit: Charging isn´t possbile, same problem as recovery - battery icon appears, then reboot.
Thanks in advance
Is it the same as these guys?

I will get a old S4 mini from a friend, it´s also dead, but maybe i can use the motherboard or the batterie, if not i will buy a new batterie and report the results here.
Reading across the internet, dead S4´s are a common problem.
For anybdoy else with similar problems: I bought a new battery, so the phone starts booting and i can enter recovery, but now i get bootloop and in recovery there are some error messages like e: can´t mount/data.../cache etc. So i think the internal storage is damaged.

d851 randomly shuts off, won't power on without charging/removing battery WHY??

Hello all,
having a really aggravating problem where I'm using my g3 where periodically I'll be using my phone (playing pokemon go usually, think it happened once while using the web browser) and the screen just shuts off and will not power on or do anything at all, totally unresponsive, no matter how long I hold the power button. I either have to pull the battery or plug it into a charger to get it to power on again.
When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery screen pops up. It shows my current percent and after some time it will boot back into system.
This wouldn't be so awful if it wasn't for the fact that there's no way to reset the damn phone when it's unresponsive without pulling the battery or charging!
Please, would anyone have ANY clues as to why this is occurring? Any logs I can check?
At the very least, is there any way to modify the boot firmware to allow me to reset the phone when it's unresponsive?
The only thing I can think of is that I replaced the battery recently. The replacement is (supposedly) genuine.
Thank you so much!
[edit] Currently using stock marshmallow that is just rooted no custom kernels or xposed (clean flash) and still having the problem but also had the problem on an older version of fulmics with an old version of xceed kernel
Sorry for the bump, but I'm really desperate for any pointers to solving this. To reiterate:
1. I'll be using my phone (touch screen is being pressed)
2. Screen suddenly shuts off, completely black, no rhyme or reason
3. Phone completely unresponsive, will not power on until battery is pulled or phone is plugged into the charger (in the case of the latter, the phone displays the battery charging screen like the phone was completely off and dead)
Please I'm desperate for any kind of help at all. The problem doesn't seem to happen while charging, only when drawing directly from battery though I generally don't use it while it's charging
I also have D851 I had the same problem as u Flash custom kernel like xceed check the andriod development page for g3 u will see it there use 4v beta mentioned on his thread u need TWRP n root for this if ur in clean stock rom ... No xposed no viper it doesnt support it will give u reboots if u use both these ....

Yes i had the same issue mine gave problem when i was rooted n xposed installed on stock kernel i havent checked it in complete stock cuz i recently bought this phone n whenever i buy a new phone i root it after flashing xceed wipe delvik cache also i no longer have random reboots of tmobile logo n no phone being complete dead to pull the battery out n place it back again ... After flashing xceed u also may need to flash super su via twrp for root download synapse from playstore apply on the lower power state mode then ur good to go
Hey everyone. I've installed the exceed 4v kernel as described in Jinderation's post and sadly I still get the shutdown / won't respond without pulling battery or charging problem .
I noticed I almost always have the problem when the battery is under 50. It NEVER happens while the phone is connected to some kind of charger.
I will be extremely grateful to anyone who can offer further advice. Is there anyway way I can run a log to catch what's causing this problem?
Also, thank you so much jinderation for taking the time to help me.

I was on the stock MM rom about a month in use for the d851 had no issues. Yesterday my phone blue screen wont power back on or no charge no nothing. Plz help!!!

Thats strange u shouldnt be having this issue on that kernel ... Here is one another solution go back to stock via restore via twrp if u had a backup in there ...n flash solid kernel ...solid kernel is best for performance try that... I played n completed Fahrenheit indigo prophecy game on that kernel no reboots or being complete dead... Try it n report back ...also buy 2 stock batteries try running them on ur phone also use geniune stock cable n charger install ampere app see how many ampere are showing when charging the value needs to be 800mah in normal

I got a new battery today. Same issue no power on

Zenfone 2 only boots Android when plugged in a USB.

So I was using my phone normally yesterday, until it shuts down randomly while using the camera. So I restarted it, but it still restarted as I got to my home screen. So I said to myself that there must be something went wrong in the rom that I am using (which is LOS 14.1), but I've got a backup before **** happened, not to worry, after I restored it though, IT STILL RESTARTED, but the weird part is, It doesn't restart if it is charging. So I wondered maybe the battery has given up, but in the TWRP, it doesn't restart even unplugged?
Things that I had tried:
1. Tried a new rom (this time using BORETS ROM), still restarts when unplugged.
2. Ran the backup again, still no change.
3.Drained my battery in TWRP, charged it up to 100%, still restarts.
Also, when I boot up my phone without a USB cable plugged in, It restarts when loading the main rom (the rom's splash screen, not the main splash screen), PLEASE HELP ME.

The problem just seems very weird to be a hardware problem , So, again, after charging my phone up to 100 percent, booted it up to Android and then unplugged it, and I had about a minute of activity now before it shuts down. Again in recovery or boot loader, it never shuts down.
Do me a favour , test with cable attached to phone but detached from charger to rule out USB socket , cable etc:good:

If its out of warranty , i would first check all connections inside phone ,
it could be battery
it could be main board or usb board.
If it were battery though , it should shut down connected to lower amp pc usb2.
Not much you can do really apart from above, usb boards are cheap`sh to buy, maybe worth the gamble ? Obviously if connections dont fix before ditching if main board. Try a discon of all connections and reconnect before ditching
I have the EXACTLY same problem.
Did you solved?
Guys, I know it's been a long time this question was asked, but I'm having the exact same problem since a week.
@owenreilly @Xnin47 any luck on solving it?
Thanks a lot!

Wow this is an old problem. Nope, I didn't fix it, instead I was back on my Galaxy Alpha until I moved on to newer phones. I believe the problem though was the battery, so if you want, you can replace that. Sorry for the late reply bro!

Hey dude! I've replaced my battery 3 weeks ago based on a Brazilian forum and it was, indeed, the culprit haha. Now everything is back on track again.
Thanks a lot for the answer
