[Q] Do any of these ROMs support voice and data at same time? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm starting to get really disappointed with my brand new Note 4. for several reasons.
Now I've discovered that it does not support voice and data at same time. That is a HUGE HUGE HUGE problem for me - especially if I'm using it as a notspot and miss phone calls. Are there any ROMS that deal with this issue? If not then I need to give up and return the phone before my 14 days is up.

If you are using hotspot you shouldn't miss phone calls. IT will automatically still ring but stop your data. :\
No, no rom can help with this.

You can get an unlocked note 4 that doesn't utilize sprint spark or integrate ur sprint number with Google voice and use calling and texting over data with hangouts. Other than that ur out of luck.

No Sprint Spark device will allow calls and data at the same time.

I don't think the question was all that ignorant - its not a hardware limitation of the phone - it's the spark network that it's on. Other Sprint phones have this ability - and if you had a way to get your Note 4 OFF the spark network and onto their other one, this problem would not exist. I was wondering if there was a ROM that dealt with this - but I guess not.

If you try using hang outs for calls do I deleted phone.apk?

Actually its a spark hardware issue. He's right. Be careful the way you word things. The way you are saying it, makes it seem as though you could just turn off spark and solve the problem. Whereas thats not the issue. Itsba combination if the hardware required for spark and the was spark is setup in our devices.

Nope just make a call from hangouts or google voice. Leave the phone apk intact.

There are older phones - such as the Galaxy S4 - that you still get 4G data and can talk at the same time - because these phones are not on the Spark network. It would seem logical that one could configure your Note 4 to use the network that these older S4's are using - changing the APNS, making changes to your CSC...etc etc etc. It's not a hardware limitation of the phone - it's a hardware limitation of the spark network - so all you need to do is config the phone to use the other network. Problem of course is that Sprint sure as hell does not want you to figure this out and thus won't do anything to assist you in doing so.
But - at this point - I really don't care. This has me so pissed that I'm giving up and going to try T-mobile. What kind of loooser move is this by Sprint? Have top-tier smart phone that you can't multitask talk/surf at same time? Horrible, horrible move by sprint.
Yes I understand I could use hangouts to kinda get around this - but it's just worth it - furthermore this problem will still exist when trying to use the phone as a hotspot - and you can't use hangouts to make phone calls while using the phone as a hotspot - so again it's a hole they've dug us into that there simply is no way out of - other than dumping Sprint for ANY OTHER carrier that has the Note 4 - cause none of the other carriers have this issue.
Such a shame.

Except for the fact that no other carriers has unlimited data and Sprint knows this. So if you want unlimited data you have to pay by Sprints rules. Or go to other carrier, pay twice what you pay now, get 5GB per month and hit for ten bucks for ever gig you go over or get throttled so bad you might as well be using radio service.

tmobile now offers unlimited 4g no cap. in my case the total monthly bill is within 20cents of sprint. and surf and talk same time. choice seems obvious to me.

Simultaneous voice and data is a focus for Sprint and is part of network vision but isnt the top priority. Top is increasing speeds and stability in the network. Eventually it will be a capability.

I have a Version Note 4 and a Sprint Note 4 in my hands. Verizon has 2 bars - Sprint has 4 bars. Verizon download speed - around 11mb average. Sprint download speeds - average less than 1mb. So 1/2 the signal yet 10 times the speed on verizon. Tomorrow I will have a Tmobile one and will see how it does - but if Sprint is trying to deal with speed they're sure doing a crappy job of it. I used signal check pro to validate the signals.

Yep - I have it ordered should be here in 24 hours or so. Of course the next thing is all this has taken so long that now I'm past the 14day no-return policy with sprint - so I expect a battle when I try to return the phone 2 days after the 14th day. If anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with that let me know.

Own up and take responsibility for keeping the device longer than the 14day. There is plenty of info here, to search through and make an informed decision.
Lol @ Spark isn't a hardware issue, thats only a half truth. Until we get VoLTE

[Q] Verizon Wants to Take my Nexus?

I got my Nexus LTE on Wednesday, had it replaced on Friday, and now VZW wants to take it back all together. They are saying that Samsung is working on a fix on the phone, but now Verizon thinks its a Network issue?
Does any one have a Nexus that isn't dropping Data constantly? Is it a bad Batch of phones? Does anyone know what is going on?
The ones with data drops are the most vocal...
I, for one, find my GNex's signal to be COMPLETELY comparable to my Droid X.
I still get the same slightly-spotty service at work (center of a hospital...surrounded by lead to protect from the X-Ray Machines' radiation). Excellent service literally everywhere else I've been.
I'm also not experiencing ANY 4.0.4 deep-sleep related drops as many are.
Bad Batch
So, is there just a bad batch of phones out there? Because this seems that this has to be a hardware issue. With a certain amount of phones that went out.
Mine is working great, I had to have it warrantied twice before I got one that didn't drop signal randomly.
Seems like the ones made in Korea are your best bet for better signal. My China ones were horrible.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I think my wife and i may both be having this issue with random signal drops while on 4G. 3G is solid as a rock. 4G drops and reconnects about every 3 minutes. Does that sound like hardware?
How do you tell where the phone is made?
i really think verizon hates this phone and doesnt really want to sell a nexus to people...
Talked to Verizon
So we are trying this one more time...
I talked to Verizon today, and the Tech person had the same phone and lived in my area and said she was not having any issues, which led her to believe it was Hardware and Software. She also said some razors are having the same issue, and if I switch phones I could have the same issue again. So, I am going to swap it out again and see what happens?
I have had 5 of these phones and they all have this problems.
Vzn just sucks!!! I can't wait until I can afford to break the contract!!!! and I thought sprint was bad!!! T-Mobile was heaven compared to this garbage service!!!!

Just because they are included in the CDMA/LTE version for Verizon, doesn't mean they touched anything on the OS side.

I believe that the radios, and maybe a few other driver packages, are developed by verizon and only distributed by google when they package their releases. That's what the tiff a few months back was with the CDMA phones being "dropped" by AOSP, a licensing conflict with anything that interacts with the CDMA tech being tied down and not open source. The actual Android code is google's game, true, but it's not the only thing the phones run on.
So there's room for Verizon to screw up the way the phones run in the OTA packages.

Just cause you're having issues with Verizon doesn't mean it's the same for everyone. Have fun being throttled on T-Moible's "4G" after you hit 2GB .
I've had nothing but exceeding standard service from Verizon reps. Only thing I hate is that it took Verizon forever to come out with this phone. And the updates take longer than GSM ones, but still, its faster than any other phone.
I actually don't mind the 2 apps they pre installed. I actually use My Verizon and I used to use Backup Assistant, a lot of people still use it.

I got one that works
On my 3rd try i got a phone that works, at least I think it works. The agents said that it can't be a lot number on the phones, because the same lots give out good and bad phones. They also said the Razor is having the same issues. They just told me to keep this one on 3G only until the update Samsung is supposed to be sending comes out.

VZW customer service is amazing
I have never had an issue where VZW customer service DIDN'T immediately suggest "let me send you a new phone" when I called with an issue. The only phone I've ever had with VZW where I didn't warranty replace a phone (in Droid X's case, FIVE TIMES before they finally sent me an X2) was my old Blackberry 8703e. I'm on my 2nd GNEX (after a bad screen/battery life/overheating issue with my first) and I can't imagine every having someone other than VZW. I mean, I get 20Mb/s D/L on 4G LTE and 10-15 upload...and no matter how much bandwidth I use (with my husband and I playing MMOs via my GNEX) we do not get throttled. It really isn't VZW's fault if there is some widespread hardware issue in some of the phones that shipped.

Let me say it again.
Verizon did not touch the software or hardware in this device.
Did they supply Google with some apks and libs? Sure they did. Do they affect ANY PART of operation?
Heck no.
Verizon outsources their app development, by the way. If Verizon had modified anything built by Google, it would have broken signatures. Guess what? Google signs our otas and they stay signed (otherwise we couldn't install them).

(HOW TO) Flash The Sprint Galaxy S3 to Verizon Prepaid

Process:

Questions:

Seems to be working OK. But I have slow data issues on Prl 53000. It does show that I am on Evdo Rev A. I did just get a roaming data notice too. Something about too much roaming data. I'm on the stock LJ7 rom and rooted. Also, when I dial 611, still goes to Sprint. What am I doing wrong here? New rom?

Very nice video.
I have the same setup. With stock and rooted LJ7 ROM and Baseband. When I dial 611, I get Verizon. Phone and texting works fine, but I can't get 3G to work. I tried to replace the 53000 PRL with the 1X one and still the same. I'm getting "No network connection. No signal found for mobile networks".

Hmmm. Sometimes, what fixes it for me is to just reboot the phone.
Otherwise, sounds like something didn't flash over correctly. I always try and make sure that when flashing, I check the log and see that its successful / complete. If not, you'll end up with issues.
One issue I had was my phone number wasn't showing up when going to About Phone Status in Settings. It only showed the last four numbers. Reflashing worked fine for me.
And other thing. Did you follow the instructions about going the web on the gusto 2 first? I had to actually pick a website and try to open it.
Good luck!

You need to call verizon tell them your phone is not receiving text, and no data. Have them to reauthenicate the account and maybe you will get data then...... The problem with flashing to Verizon Prepaid is one wrong move and account gets locked out.........

You didn't write something correctly or missed a step. dial *228 on your phone. It may not let you dial the one or the two so just hang out and it will program your phone for you also then write the 53000 prl. I promise that if you follow the video exactly you will get 3g data unless you live somewhere that doesn't have 3g data.
I also want to touch on vipers comment about getting locked out of service. I'm constantly saying this but I'll say it again. I've been on verizon prepaid myself for over a year now. I'm currently on the 35 dollar plan. I haven't had any problems with them at all. I've also flashed several of my friends phones to VP and they haven't had any problems except for one guy every time he gets drunk the next day I have to rewrite his aaa and ha password (still can't figure that out) but no one has lost their account.
What do I think is happening to these accounts? Nothing I believe these individuals are people/businesses who get paid to flash phones and don't want the secrets out there and this is probably killing there business. People get concerned by problems and start to wonder about that. For instance a few years ago I was working for this small cell phone flashing company and flashing to boost started to kick off. Well we didn't have everything set up like this other company did so when someone came in we had this rumor going on that this guy who had his cell phone since they first came out, lost his number because boost found out and then he went to their shop and threw brick through their window.
Saying somthing like that to a customer we already had wasn't really targeted to him\her. But to any friends of theirs that questioned them about their service believe it or not but people like to talk. Especially about bricks being thrown through windows. I didn't stay long with that company but it's an example.

I was I've through all of your posts (takes about ten minutes) and your xda repoire at first is to just ask a bunch of questions and then you started to sell yourself as a cell phone flasher. Then you found out how to pull aaa keys and refused to tell anyone and blamed it on cdma workshop not being free. You can still show the process and I'm calling you out on that and the fact your trying to scare people into not going to verizon prepaid. You may fool some people but you don't fool me.
Hmm.. I must have misunderstood the *228 thing in the video. But anyways. Now that I did *228 thing, I'm stuck with the roaming indicator. Does that matter? I plan on flashing another rom and hope it changes it. Also, how does doing *228 affect the phone? It was working fine earlier and I even clocked 3G speeds at 2.7mbps.
Thanks

You can call me out all you want, I have done several phones while members watched and seen the keys pulled in. I have not tried in no way to scare people from verizon prepaid. I flash to them myself, but you are dead wrong if you do not think that a account will need to be reathenicated sometimes. I have nothing to prove to you but only offered a suggestion to the guy having issues (now my comment was seen that way by you, I have no idea) . Anyways good luck to you in your venture as I am way above arguing this with you. No one is fooling anyone here but you..... I don't need to sell myself, proof is in the pudding bro.......

I know your gonna read this because curiousity will bring you back to see my rebuttal. It's how life works. I'm not saying that you can't pull the aaa keys what I'm saying is that you refuse to share the knowledge of how to do it. You made a thread to talk about it but really I believe that you made that thread to make a profit. There is free software to record your screen and there is also hacked software for camtasia there is no excuse not to share especially on xda.
You probably won't respond because you don't want to share this info and pretending like you didn't see this post is probably better than trying to come up with an excuse because there isn't one.
I reflashed the phone again slowly making sure I follow each step of the video and also did the *228 on the phone. After I disable Wifi, I still get "No network connection. No Signal found for mobile networks."
At first I had the LG2 modem and it keep on prompting for a sim card, so I updated it to LJ7. Still no 3G and I keep on getting the roaming message.
I do noticed however when I got to Settings, About device, Status:
Network = Sprint (shouldn't this be Verizon?)
Mobile network type: 1xRTT:6 (CDMA)
User name = [email protected] (shouldn't this be something like my telephone # @vzw.com?)
Mobile network state = disconnected (???)
IMEI =Old one from Sprint (shouldn't this be my Verizon Gusto 2 IMEI?)
Thanks guys for all your help.

OK, let me try to use the MOAR rom instead. The LG2 modem keeps on asking for a sim card. Sprint is CDMA, so hence no sim card.

Hmmm.. I never had a problem with the Sim request. From my understanding, you probably still have the Mobile Network set to LTE. That should be the only reason why it's looking for a Sim Card.
I also noticed a different PRL after activating on Verizon.

I have the N5100 3G version. I have had it since may and it has worked well. However, since yesterday, Three UK started blocking me from using data. It says I have to get a tablet sim. The problem is I don't want to loose the ability to make phone calls.
Has anyone had an issue like this?
I'm also having the same issue, I have spoken to three support today at length with the result being "we can sell you a mobile broadband plan sim that you can swap out for data" - it appears that Three have launched the LTE version on the note 8 as a tablet only device (ie, no phone or text) and so are blocking all versions of the note 8 under that ruling.
I'm going to try and get to talk to someone not loacted in India tomorrow to look into this as this is my main device for phone calls aswell as data and I'm locked into the one plan for another 9 months!

Yay, I am not the only one! I am really disappointed with it. They don't seem to understand me, I also use it as my main device. I do wonder how they identify the device, it would be good if we could change it so they think its a phone.

We 5100 owners in the US want the exact opposite: tablet plans are so much cheaper, we wish it were recognized as tablets instead of phones! If they are identifying your device by imei number, you may be able to get around it by using an imei from an LTE version. I had a similar issue (in reverse) and that's how it was resolved. I may eventually get caught, but for now, I'm flying under the radar.

How difficult was that to do?
Be careful talk of changing imei is against the TOS on these forums. As tempting as it sounds it is both dangerous and legally dubious. It is a common tactic used by phone thieves to activate stolen phones. Also modifying such information can render your phone a paper weight if not careful.

I'm not sure exactly how it was done, but it only took a few minutes to do. I'm sorry I don't know more about what's involved.

Hi, have you spoken to someone? Any resolution?

Anyone went back to their Note 3?

I love the note 4 but I get one pet peeve. The damn single antenna that prevents me from using the Web when you're on the phone.
This is a major concern for me since I use my phone as part of the home automation. My Gate and Garage is controlled with my phone so if I get to the front of the house and I'm on the phone, I have to get off the phone to get in or get out of the car and use the keypad.
I think this is a MAJOR BS of sprint

It has nothing to do with Antennas..it is the Spark and tri-band that causes this: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Spri...andle-calls-and-data-at-the-same-time_id54789
There are ways around this but it would require further tower upgrades from Sprint.
Yup, all spark phone will be like this. The up side is better faster LTE coverage and better battery life since there is only 1 cell radio operating at a time. It will take VOIP (and a new phone since note 4 doesn't support VOIP) before sprint will provide simultaneous voice and data again. So, if you really need simultaneous voice and data no spark for you!

Yeah its kinda annoying at times... But it's not really a deal breaker. I'll stick with the Note 4. Can't downgrade at this point is how I see it.
I agree. Ofcourse I skipped the note 3 altogether because I wasn't eligible for upgrade at the time it was released and I heard som leaked info about the Note 4 so I decided to wait. I really do miss simultaneous voice & data but I don't talk on my phone for great lengths anyway so it's not that big of a deal to me.

I was looking at the nex 5 last spring ...then the nex 6 rumors started... Glad I waited... Did my due diligence and ended up with this AWESOME machine...

Who's going to dump AT&T N5 for a T-Mobile variant?

I'm seriously considering this since the AT&T model will supposedly never get root and it's bootloader will always be locked. Anybody else following suit?

I personally don't have a need to root anymore. I prefer to just have a stable phone and not worry about screwing something up and constant backup and restores.

same here, been rooting/flashing rom since the first galaxy s who really needs some rom optimization, unlike today, smartphone hardwares improved, no need for overlocking and etc. I'd say i graduated rooting/modifying system files already.
I would but TMOBILE has an actual unlock app now which makes things very difficult. I tried doing this for the s6 edge and it actually doesn't work so well on att. (check TMOBILE s6edge forums thread "calling issues")
I had TMOBILE note 4 on att and that was great but again this new app ruins it
Note 4 was the first phone I didn't need to root and the note 5 is the second. It got too tedious. I've still got a rooted 3 though

I had a TMO S6 Edge and had calling issues on AT&T. It didn't happen all the time but at least daily and really frustrating.
I use this phone for work so no choice but to go with AT&T on Note 5. I can't afford to miss calls and wait 30 seconds for dialing out issues.
Development was really slow too due non Qualcomm processor. Debloating was the real benefit and much of that can be done through Package Disabler Pro app from Play Store.
I had the same issues as the above thread. You have been warned! If you want unlocked you should buy the international version! Not the TMOBILE one...
Thanks for the heads up!

I used the T-mobile variant of several previous Galaxy phones on AT&T's network. All of them worked, but not all perfectly. Some were definitely better than others. I myself would be cautious with this because as AT&T continues to expand and update their network, the potential for degrading performance with the T-mobile variant may increase. I personally switch phones every 3 to 6 months so future proofing may impact others more than me.
The T-mobile version is still missing a couple of bands used by AT&T. While this may not impact you where you initially test the phone, it may once you switch locations.
Initially, everyone (including myself) played down the absence of these bands from the T-mobile variant stating that they were only reserved for future expansion. Maybe the future is now because I can tell you that I will not longer use it. The AT&T variant just works better for me. I get more consistent connectivity and consistently higher speeds. Sometimes not by much, but consistently higher nonetheless.
I love having root and a custom recovery just for the nice backups. Also deleting bloatware and editing system sounds. Little things like that. I do enjoy my AT&T Note 5 though. Still an amazing phone and really fast. I couldn't imaging what an AOSP rom would be like with 4gb of ram. Lol.

And then instead of call issues you'll have LTE issues!
I personally must have root for any att device due to me wanting to do WiFi hotspot on grandfathered unlimited data plan. When the phones arent rom'ed or tether hacked, I can no way start up the WiFi hotspot.
And I'll never give up the unlimited as long as I can

I felt the same way until the throttling started. It was so bad when throttled that my powerful smartphone was practically crippled unless I hopped on WiFi.
I gave in and got a Family Share plan when they were running a good special. I haven't looked back because my bill dropped substantially and I have more data than I can actually use thanks to roll over.

Yes I experienced that same throttling two years ago when their cap was 5gb.
Now their rule is saying if you use too much they'll lower your speed until your cell towers hubs are uncongested. So around crazy busy cities it can be slowed down during peak hours. But I've gone over the 5gb soft limit a few times and has experienced no slow down...
I have considered looking into family shares but seems like everyone in the family together will use more gb than the affordable plans can allot
