Hello all,
This is my first post here, so welcome everyone
I have following problem with my Xperia Z1C: It sends mobile data by it self while it is connected to WiFi and mobile data are switched off. Few times per hour I can see in my billing few connections (1kB, 10kB and 0kB) and system built in data moniotor does not show anything. I have the same set of application on Xperia M2 and it is fine. I saw today that data transmition follows the sign of GPS localization. I have sent the device to service and they replaced it but problem still does exist. Each time I try to refuse any data comunication with Google, but I bought smartphone to use internet and maps and apps.
The only solution is to delet APN config file but each time I want to use Internet I have to create new APN.
I guess that there is some problem in system and one of the apps receives permition to send mobile data while it is switched off. I tried NoRootFireWall etc without success.
Could you help me guys?
Did you agree that your GPS is allowed to use Wi-Fi to increase location accuracy?
How about anonymous statistics sent to google?
I set up GPS only. (On Xperia M2 even when Wifi is used to increase accuracy of GPS, there is no data transmition when it is switched off).
I refused anonymous statistics everywhere it was possible. If I do not agree to send data to Goole it is not possible to switch on high accuracy mode.
I though that Mobile Data button is some kind of master switch.
Sony Select informed me about possible data transmition and there was no possibility to refuse it.
Yea. There are mysteries which neither I could figure out.
Once a time mine statistics showed traffic even when I had data transmission off !!!
Folk here said is is literally impossible. (my suspicion was - application itself switched data transmission on in the background for a while).
I suspect that statistics count packets when they are designed to send, not checking if firewall or anything else really allowed them through.
Yes, same me. I think Sony did something wrong or did something on purpose to monitor people. Nowadays almost every one have data transmistion offer so they do not care about small traffic.
I contacted Sony support to solve that issue. Anyway this is my last smart device from Sony. If my issue is not solved I will flash my cell with custom rom.
I installed Cyanogenmod 12 and problem disappeared.
On stock Sony fw if you turn off mobile data and WiFi in setting about your phone you will see:

This is too simplified conclusion.
Such descriptions are worthless.
It as well can be about packet transmission without which you could not send/receive SMS.
(This would explain that it goes down in plane mode where you dont send SMSes).
As well can be that data service is in listen state.
Only knowing amount of transmitted packets would tell us more truth.

All the time the phone is on it's constantly connecting to the local telephone masts and negotiating a connection. Without this function it wouldn't work as a phone. Google uses this mast connection data to work out your location. It's possible that the data usage you're seeing is a part of google location. This is nothing to do with 'data' on your phone. But if you're concerned why not install a good firewall ?

I have disabled google localization and block all nlp things with wakelock terminator. I use mobile data transfer all the time so for me that's not a problem but there are people who don't use mobile data and have active data traffic so it's suspicious that in Sony phones there is such a weird thing

I recently received a Touch Pro 2 from T-Mobile. Somehow, I got lucky and received it without signing up for a data plan. The phone line is on a family plan with unlimited family text usage. My questions are, does the unlimited family text service allow me to text/send instant messages using my TP2 at no extra cost? I don't want to be billed up the a hole for each text message. My second question is, is there a way I can disable the web service on my TP2 and force it to ONLY use WiFi??? I don't want to accidentally use T-Mobile's web service and again get charged a ton for usage. Thanks in advance folks!
Your phone will work with your family plan with unlimited family text usage. When you order the TP2 it is required as part of your contract to have the data plan for the life of the contract. I would check into that as you might get charged for breaking your contract. You are able to use the WIFI only by disabling the data connection.

How do I disable the data connection?? Would that interfere with my ability to text or is that seperate?
"So as long as I keep my family unlimited text service I'm free to text away correct?
As long as your phone is apart of the family plan, you receive the same services as the rest of the phones on the plan.

The best way that I know of to make sure that you don't use your data connection with out possibly effecting mms or txt messaging is to find an app called, NoData. I had found it a while ago in the Rhodium forum. I will post it when I can find it again. Using this app, you can toggle the data and internet connections as needed.

I forgot to ask, I'm guessing the Touch Pro 2 has weather updates. Do I need to have the web data plan or is it a free "service"? My friends Samsung Highlight has weather updates and does not pay for a data plan. Thoughts?
The weather app gets its data from accuweather.com so it should update over your WIFI.

If your data connection is disabled, it would not be able to download weather data except for when you are connected to wifi.

and this one as well,
It depends on which rom you are using. some of the stock roms have that feature while others don't. if your phone has an option in the settings tab that says data connection with an on/off switch than that will work. There have been instances when a data connection will still connect when requested by an application using that setting. It is worth a try if you have concerns about using another program.

Alrighty. Thanks again stuntmonkey.
Basic info:
- I'm on The People's Rom GS3.17
- I'm using KTweaker and running one of their profiles
- I'm ATTEMPTING to use Tasker to regulate Wifi home/out and data home/outside
So pretty much here's my problem:
I've attempted to use Taster to make sure Wifi is ON when im at home and OFF when i leave home (according to cell towers)
I've also tried to make sure Data/Wifi is OFF when screen is OFF and ON when screen is on.
But even if Tasker was working perfectly, this problem still persists and this is it:
1) When I use WiFi at home, every so often, it will just shut off (even if the screen is on) and it will revert to 3G
2) The only solution to this is to turn off Wifi, then turn it back on, and only THEN will it capture the SSID and connect to the internet.
Example shown below:

In the above picture, "InternetOnly" is the SSID for my university and yet, with Wifi enabled, it doesn't access the damn SSID and the internet! It is using 3G. In fact, when I click to connect to that SSID, it says "out of range" which is BS. Only when I reset the Wifi connection does it connect me to the internet/ssid. Exact same problem occurs with the SSID at home. Wifi policy is set to sleep "never" btw.
As for Tasker, this is what I'm using for automation which is failing epicly (I deleted the task about cell towers because it was getting annoying):
I THINK the problem would work if I stock resetted my phone using ODIN but I don't want to
Someone please help.

Okay so it happened again; I'm at home, and it was connected to WiFi, and now it's back to 3G even though WiFi is enabled. When I click to connect, it says "failed to connect to network" even though I'm literally a few feet from the router.
In TPR you have to freeze in Titbu just like you did good move. The settings have it removed because so many people where messing things up not knowing what they where doing.

Yeah the update is that even after flashing the damn .zip, the WiFi still randomly disconnects from my SSID (even though the WiFi itself is enabled)
SUPER ANNOYING!!!
Should I just change the SSID? I heard sometimes it doesn't like upper-case letters and numbers.
So I got my new note 7 and am loving it except for one significant problem. I cant get to google play on my wifi. Every other wifi in the world works. Just not my own at home. I can connect at my moms no problem, LTE works. Get a white screen as if the app is trying to load and sometimes a connection error try again later.
Things I have tried.
Other wifi networks "which works"
Tried my moms router on my modem, no go
All the stuff you get when you google like cache reset, manually adjust the time, factory restore....
One work around that works is to run a vpn, another is connecting my hootoo travel router to my wifi and connecting the phone through it. Then app store and photos works fine.
Google says its a problem specific to my phone and connection to the internet, so samsung or isp problem, samgsung said its a isp problem, rogers said its a isp problem. So not very helpful.
My setup is my note 7 connected to an archer c9 "tplink" which is new a month ago. my isp is xplornet "bleck" and im on thier 25 meg 300 gig lte package which actually get between 2 and 5 meg down, half a meg up. We have a note 5 and an iphone in the house as well and they both work fine.
Anyone have an idea? Samsung, xplornet, rogers and google haven't a clue.
Sounds like your ISP DNS is having issues.

nixonboy123 is right. Your DNS is giving you issues. Log into your router and manually specify DNS address. You can use Google's DNS at (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.7.7). Google how to configure DNS on your router if you aren't sure.
If you're unable to manually specify DNS on your router you can find DNS settings on your phone. You may have to select manually specify IP address on your wifi network to configure the DNS.

Thanks for the advice. Changing the dns on my router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 allows me to get into the google play store now, but my installed apps tab remains blank. Everything else works though. Also my google photos gets stuck on the first upload. The progress bar on the first photo will start but hang forever. Connect through vpn or any other wifi network i've tried and it all works fine.
Kind of frustrating to have so much headaches just trying to set up a new phone i should be enjoying.
Rogers agreed to replace the phone when they get some more in. Why would my S5 Note 5 and G4 all work without all this hassle?

Hi guys
I'm using a wifi repeater Netgear EX8000. These days my wifi is very unstable even though it's full bar. The internet keeps dropping
I've tested it out with static IP on my phone setting and yet the wifi is still dropping fast.
Next to my test is my old phone Samsung S8+ where the wifi is stable without any drops. Both are connecting to the same 5G network. Both have the same Gateway, DNS. Only the static IPs are slightly different. This leads me to think Android 10 have bad wifi issues.
Anyone else having this problem?
If yes, how do you solve it? or do you downgrade back to android 9?
I was having wifi troubles, would be connected but nothing coming through. What helped me was in Wifi check the settings symbol in the network you are connected to and go to MAC address type and select "use device MAC" especially if you are trying static IP on your router.
Thx for the reply. I tried that but doesn't help for my case.
Have the same problem here. I don't have the 5g model and so far the only wifi drops I get are on 5ghz. I have not tested the 2.4ghz to see if it does the same thing.
So far usually restarting the wifi (toggle off and back on) fixes it. Dynamic/Static IP/metered/unmetered settings have no effect. I have no wifi control programs and wifi power saving settings are disabled. I do have mobile data on all the time.
As for downgrading it's what ever you want to do. IMHO this is one of those quirks that comes with a new OS update, and it isn't just Samsung devices that have been reported as having the same issue. I would presume that a subsequent update would probably contain a fix. Seeing as we just got an OS upgrade a factory data reset might be of more help then not.
I myself haven't done and FDR yet, but then again I am perfectly ok with toggling off and back on the wifi connection. I may end up doing a FDR at another point in time, or I might just make a tasker routine (restart wifi when no internet detected).
I have the same problem with Public wifi that require you to sign in...

Don't take this the wrong way, but your throughput speed issue is not the same as a WiFi disconnect issue.
Also SMB can be a fickle like that and effected by things if your just downloading to the phone or streaming a video, app support (CX File Explorer's SMB support), video file format/conversion via software... In your case I'm betting on non WiFi related issues since your attempting to stream pirated movies (saw that in your other thread) that probably are not converted for your phone and range in 11 to 14 gigs in size.

In the local area network, continuous transmission and playback, there is no problem with movie format. The software I use is CX File Explorer's and mxplayer.
The reason why this problem is because the previous S6 S7 NOTE8 does not have this problem

I had ran a tasker routine to check for internet connection, and upon none in restarts the wifi on the phone.
I also ended up doing a factory data reset and set the phone back up (not using a backup) to resolve the issue. Avoiding the use of a backup means that any corrupted settings that were in my phone (that would have been backed up) did not get back into my phone. This maybe about the only solution to try.. another would be to try and different router (use a friends internet or something, so long as it's not the same router as yours). If the connection is stable on a different router then it maybe time to consider an upgrade to the wireless router your using.
Ultimately I ended up getting a wifi6 router and have not had a single problem at all. I also migrated away from using a private dns setting and use a dns block list with a vpn app. I am not sure if an update released to the phone (or a combination of things) fixed it or not, but it's working without issue.
I found this to work. I have been struggling with this issue for a while and found that it is a conflict with the wifi ip settings. The router changes ip configuration changes everyday for your protection. Change ip in wifi -- sprocket--advanced -- change from dhcp to static then save. Issue resolved.

Hello Everyone it is 4th of February 2021. I have an ONE PLUS 6 i started having an issue with my 5ghz wifi after the upgrade to android 10 almost 2 years ago . Anyhows it would drop the wifi randomly or dissconnect me from it and when i turned it on the 5ghz network it would take over a minute untill it connects. I have finally found A BIG solution to this problem it's the Security in your Modem. On my modem it was on security WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO. Now i changed it to ONLY WPA2-PSK Or depending on your device which one works better if u have the option of WPA PSK either one of these u can choose them but dont go for WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO. It's a security-Bug issue that popped up on many android 10 devices after the update. So once i changed it to either one of those instead of WPA-WPA2PSL-AUTO ' my issue went away. I've been struggling with this problem since the android 10 update came to my ONE PLUS 6 . So there you have it FINALLY A FIX TO OUR PROBLEM

Since a few days ago, my phone has been turning off the mobile data for both SIM Cards. At first i suspected my main SIM was damaged so i went to my mobile provider and got a new one. Still the same.
I have 2 SIM cards with different providers. SIM1 got LTE Advanced service recently and now it can reach 100Mbps. SIM2 has LTE service and usually tops at 6Mbps. The issue only happens when the SIM1 is Active as the Data SIM. When i switch my Mobile Data to SIM2, the problem does not happen. Even with a new SIM card for SIM1 provider, no solution.
The problem started at the same time the LTE Active feature was activated in my city. When there's no LTE+/4G+, only LTE/4G, the issue does not happen.
I think there's a bandwidth restriction on my F3, maybe on some app mobile data permission, but i can't find it. Should i do a Factory Reset?
Thanks in advance

Security -> data usage -> settings -> Data plan -> When data plan is used up
select "show warning" instead of "warn and turn off mobile data"
Hello. Yes, i did just that but the issue continues. It's not a complete shut down of mobile data. It's more like a reset, because the data gets disabled on both SIMs for maybe 10 to 15 seconds and then turn itself on. During this 10 to 15 seconds, the Mobile Data widget is totally unusable even when pressed.
I've just check and it happens only when the 4G gets the +.

only thing i can imagine is
faulty sim
or
faulty phone hardware
or
bad kernel
or
bad rom
or
the simplest of them all... the reception, where you are at, is bad
Thanks for your reply. I got a new sim card yesterday at my office before posting here. And did several Speedtest and GNetrack test on site. I work in a Mobile Service Provider and in my office the signal is perfect because the eNodeB are everywhere.
After the sim change and the signal/bandwidth tests, i too suspected the rom, the kernel...or the hardware, so today i started with the simplest: data back up, then redownloaded the latest MIUI update, installed it and did a factory reset. So far, the issue only ocurred one time, barely after the factory reset. After updating all the apps and related (Google and Xiaomi), the phone is using the LTE Advanced connection without repeating the problem. I suspect it was a bad rom, or some app with a mobile data restriction that got reseted to work again. Still, i'm cautious and keeping the phone under observation.

most clean way to make sure it isn't a rom issue would be to clean flash with fastboot rom
