my g3 battery draining fast?! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My LG G3 D850 battery is going down pretty fast and always gets about only 18 hrs of standby time (less than 4 hrs on screen) no matter what I did. In such a case, is the extended battery a good option? I already found a mpj 6000 mah extended battery, or ss something wrong with my stock battery? I don't really know much about the smart phones, but I really like this phone so if anyone could help me fix the battery issue thank you so much!

What's your brightness? I'm getting about the same 18hrs too with my battery. I usually have the brightness on 50%.

4hrs on screen is pretty normal depending on your usage. That being said, look into Greenify. It should help a bit.
Remember that this is a 4k display, which is harder on the battery. Some people make it to 6hrs+ screen time with mods, you can look into that if you'd like but being new to smart phones, it's not the first thing I'd suggest.

Optimus G Pro E980 Battery

hi. i just got my new phone E980. its the AT&T model. the batter is so ambiguous man... like i got the phone just yesterday, started checking out the phone and the battery was like 23%.
after LITERALLY like 10 mins the battery went to like 12%... i was like WOOOOT.....
i discharged the phone completely and then took out the battery and discharged any remaining power from phone as its recommended.
then i charged the phone to full and started using again like paystore apps downloading.
as i checked the battery from setting the idle was using like 3rd most battery in the list after screen and android OS.
what is this man??? isnt it supposed to be a phablet? is it ok for my phone to be this worst at battery. this is first ever non-Samsung phone and i m used to good battery life where idle does not take freaking 3rd most of the battery... WTF... im kinda disappointed
also can someone tell me and pls like me here any good roms and how to root this phone and also tell me which roms provide good battery life?
i will be so thankful for these links...
smiler what happened to me :\
now i need to wait for new battery to arrive
EDIT:
small tip
its might help the sudden restarting if changing the processor speed to 1ghz max
I've solve the same Issue by using an Ipad Charger because the 3140Mah battery need a 2 Ampere charger.
First day my F240L drain full battery in 3 hours, the 100% charge was fake by charging with Galaxy S3 charger (I got Phone Used without Charger), the phone show 100% charge but the value was fake.
Try a charger with 2 Ampere Output.
This metod is working with ipad charger and Galaxy Tab 3 charger.
I hope that my Hint work for you.
Now my battery works very well. yesterday i disconnect phone at 8.30 am and at the 23.30 the charge was 47%, with mid-heavy use and wifi turned on all the day.
Plus 1!

Sorry that's all I got but you will see in the first screen shot during the 3 days the phone was powered on and off charge, the screen used 35% of the battery. I have had 2 previous phones, TMO GS2 and ATT Note1 and never had the battery last longer than around 24-26 hours on any ROM under similar circumstances. That is with notifications enabled and data and Wifi active but Bluetooth off.
2nd screenshot shows phone was sleeping (offline) 95% of the time so if my calculation is correct, on screen time would calculate out at 4394 minutes * (100-95.4) % = 202 minutes or around 3.3 hours during the 3 days I was using it (little more than 1 hour a day). Assuming the screen was on whenever the phone was online.
You just need to press Screen to see screen time

Battery life so far on the G4 is horrible

Is the G4 really this bad? I bought one a few days ago, coming from the G2. I'm waiting for it to settle in but damn.. this thing goes through 3000mah like a fat kid through candy. My G2, now 2 years old lasts twice as long SOT. 6 hours to 3. I just.. I want to love the 4, but it is just too power hungry. Does this beast settle down over time? I have a week more to return it for something else, and on the verge.
Since firmware v10c there's a problem with GPS sucking battery. Try setting it to “battery saving“. Perhaps this improves things...
Yeah. Read that. Shouldn't have to turn everything down or off in 2015. I so love this phone but wow. The battery is nonsense. I went to it because my G2 was/is a champ. What is going on with this thing?
The battery in the g2 is much better, but finding a flagship from 2015 with a better battery than the g4 (and a comparable camera, screen, size etc.) is impossible.
It charges more than one percent per minute with6a normal charger, and you can buy a spare battery and a fast charger but the sot isn't going to get much better than what you're expering now. It's still the best phone ever imho.

I got a free battery with it, and the charging cradle. Which is nice. I guess I just got spoiled. The G2 is so awesome, and I expected this to be the same. It's not. Not even close. I bought this G4, a Note 5 and an S6 at the same time. Both Sammy's perform much better, and that pains me to say. Ugg.

You could help if you complain to LG about the GPS battery drain problem like me and others did already. Try “battery saving“ on GPS and post your results afterwards. With a decent screen brightness, I always get 4+ hours Screen on time. Not playing games or doing heavy battery draining tasks, though.

Man oh man, you are having better luck than I am. I might have a faulty unit, not sure, but the battery on this one is like driving an old car with a big V8. When you stomp on the gas you can literally see the gas gauge go down before your eyes. This phone is no different. My G2 was honestly 3X better than the G4. Good luck to you guys, and I mean that sincerely, I do. But I'm returning this thing. For me, at least... it is a pass.

Kind of the point though. I shouldn't have to tweak settings, and root a brand new phone to make it work. I'm not here to bash the G4 (I own it) but it stinks.. Ok.. bashed it lol. Seriously. I have the exact same apps loaded on it as my G2 and if sucks battery like a $2 hooker. The Camera is good, not sure as great as was reported. The speaker was kind of bashed from the reviews but I think it is AWESOME! So loud. But... battery. Nope. I don't care if they give me 40 free ones to swap, I shouldn't have to.

That's kind of what I meant. With my debloated, greenified, taskered, tweaked and optimized g2 I got sot of up to 10 hours, the g4 gives me 4-5. Except from every test ever and every user experience, I think not even LG tries to pretend that the g4 has the slightest chance to reach sot like the g2 did. You're the first person to say so ever, so I assumed the only explanation could be that your sot on the g2 were mediocre.

If you got 10 hours sot with g2 you were heavily underclocked and at that rate wtf is the point...i actually got a much smoother experience and better battery life by raising the min clock on big and little cores as with the stock settings both jumped around ridiculously chewing up battery on simple processes...we shouldn't have to root to fix anything but it's never the case...and getting 21 hours out of my g4 with 6 hours sot with browsing some gaming and lots of youtube vids I'm beyond impressed...h811 has no custom kernel yet so no undervolt is present...this phone will just continue to get better imo...i cant believe the complaints i see about a device that surpasses 95% of anything on the market

If you don't use auto, what manual settings for brightness would you normally use on the G4 ? Mention the figure in % or the range.
Are you on wifi or data, mixed ? what share each.
i gather you are on H815.
hey there @android404 mind sharing your g2 setup for those 10 hours and screen brightness also? i'm thinking my g2 might be a lemon i never reach even 6 hours with no heavy usage but i am on stock rom and kernel and i don't even use greenify i have no problem rooting it so please can you tell me your rom kernel clocks and whatnot? thx in advance.
Update. I went for broke and did a factory reset before I was forced to return it. Seems to have made a world of difference. Now it is performing the way I would expect it too. Not as good as the G2, but not draining before my eyes. I think something must have been borked. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic atp, but I have a week more of daily use to play with it. (Might get an extension) but so far, in the last 26 hours it is night and day difference. Whew. Really didn't want to take it back.

Normally keep it at 60% and mix between wifi and data but 75% of time it is on wifi. H812.
Yeah. Much better. Been unplugged for 10.5 hours and sot is just over an hour. 84% battery left. Same usage before the reset and it would have already been next to dead. Something was mucked up. I take back what I said before. This is what I expected.

Glad to hear it...i hate to see people leave for bad experience on a device that has such potential...development is slow atm but once cm gets stabilty and a few more variants have unlock/workaround this device will gain notoriety like the g2 had and the g2 was a beast...was my favorite device to date and i see the same potential here

Why should it say 1500 mah? The screen is not the only thing that drains the battery, you know that, right?
Running any benchmark will cause many battery drain. Don't do that. And that app you have to see the cpu temperature, 42º is not high for CPU. For battery it is.

What help? Get a new battery or go away from Snapdragon devices. And, the screen usage is about right, because i don't know if you know, but the screen you are staring at is 1440x2560, or 2K, which is an insane resolution, and crammed in a 5.5 inch display at 538 ppi, it will consume A LOT. And the battery is just 3AH, which seemed much, but compared to the S5, with a 1080p display and a 2.6AH battery, the G3 has the worst SOT out of the 2014 flagship lineup.

The 2K screen doesn't consume that much power. There are mods which allow you to lower the resolution, but you won't see much or any increase in battery life or performance (maybe in games it's going to be most noticeable).

Sounds like a bad battery. Quite possibly a reason why the other person decided to sell it in the first place. How old is the device that you purchases?
You can get an original replacement battery online for a few dollars. Just make sure you use a reputable vendor, like LG's official website.

But when i add up usage it totals lower then the battery capacity, they total up to 1000mah at 50%, when it should be 1500mah
Do you have any benchmarks i can try so i can see if its working right or its just me.

Oh so it's a brand new LG? How many hours of screen usage are you getting, what usage (web browsing, checking email or playing games?) and with what period of idle time.
Don't trust the numbers in the battery stats, especially in a new ROM. They are supposed to get better over time but I've found them to be wildly inaccurate even on months old ROM. I haven't really found an application you can benchmark accurately with.
But you compare with other (real) results on the foruns and rather you get the hang of what's the normal usage you should be getting out of a good battery.
Did you make a day without running any benchmark apps? What is your SOT? Standby time? Do you have location, wifi, bluetooth,NFC,mobile data on?
All of this matters. You shouldn't start right away with "I have problems with my battery" if you are running benchmark apps. Benchmark apps drains battery!
Wait a few days without running that apps and see how it manages. Another thing. The battery stats, the mah usage, not all of the things appears in the default android battery stats. And another thing, the battery value (the percentage of the battery), it is an approximation. Sometimes it could go up without charging, it is because it detected that has a wrong value. You could try charge your phone to 100%, usage it normally until 0%, until it turns off. Then charge it again to 100% and use it normally (don't discharge to 0% to many times, it just hurts the battery).

Streamed from the internet with at least 1h10 SOT, that is not bad. That is almost 4 hours SOT. If you have 1h12 minutes SOT, that is 4 hours. It is good.

Oh yeah, considering you even streamed the movie, it's signs of a good new and healthy battery. 3 hours of SoT with internet browsing is quite the norm, and 4 hours is on the up side.
I can barely get to 2 hours of SoT with my now aging battery.

It's not about the software side of things, it's about that my battery is old now, and that's why happens to old batteries, the just deteriorate.
Thankfully the LG G3 has an easily replaceable battery, and I have a replacement waiting for me. Not getting a phone on which you can't remove the battery..
And never found those apps like Greenify to really work, at least in the last few years of Android. The OS seems to be doing just of a good a job and I see no improvement in battery life. Maybe they help in cases with poorly written apps that are draining your battery in the background, but I don't see why would you use such a software in the first place.

Question Improve battery life (change resolution/refresh rate) possible?

Technically, it should be possible to get some great battery life with this phone's big battery. Is it possible to change the resolution and also limit the refresh rate to let's say 10-60 instead of 10-120?
This alone should help a lot with battery. I am hesitate buying this phone because of the battery life I have seen in reviews.

You can force refresh rate (60-120) in the developer options as far as I know. 10hz is not yet available to force (as far as I know), but stay tuned to what the root community can do about that in the future.
So forcing to 60hz would help. What about resolution? Yes, absolutely. I am excited to see what kind of battery life is possible with some kernels/tweaks
Definitely turn off 5G. If you can. I heard some people don't have that option. Sucks we have to turn off all these features for better battery life. Mine is getting better over time. But coming from P5, this battery sucks
I actually got an iPhone 11 Pro Max a while ago and the battery life is just awesome. Never have to think about it and I don't turn off anything. I was expecting the same from the 5000mah battery of the P6 Pro... I read that with 5G too already. I really want to go back to Android but I don't want worse videos or battery life..
Y'all must not of fully charged your phones before using them allowing the device to calibrate properly. I have no issues with battery on the P6P with heavy usage... Lasts through an 18 hour day without needing charged.
I'm not sure what's going on with my phone idling overnight but I lose about 10% when I wake up. Happened consistently 3 nights now.
Since I have never had 120hz refresh rate I don't know what I am missing so I am cool with forcing it to permanent 60hz if that saves battery life. Same with resolution. Curious what kind of battery life can be achieved with these tweaks.

My mistake is comparing it to my P5. Not even close with battery. But their are a ton of differences. I get it. That's what chargers are for. I love the phone though.

The display is one of the main "extra" features you get going from 6 to 6 Pro aside from extra camera. If you're worried about battery life because of 120hz then just buy the regular 6.

I hear what you are saying and I thought about it. I saw a review that put the front cameras next to each other and that put me off the regular Pixel 6. The 5000mah just sound so great and if we can change resolution and refresh rate that must increase battery life a lot.
My battery doing great off charge at 9 this morning ,used a lot and on 72% ,but I can't find anywhere in battery info that give time or SOT since last charge
My battery life has been great so far, Accubattery is estimating over 11hrs SOT and over 75hrs standby at this point. 120hz/5g both enabled. If someone is having bad battery life you may want to monitor specific apps that are keeping the phone from hitting deep sleep. Took mine off the charger 3.5 hours ago with 1hr SOT and sitting at 92%.
You can't change the resolution to 1080p, no. You can't change to 90hz or 60hz (no idea about dev options). So no, the easiest ways to save battery aren't available.

Nope, this is certainly not the right answer. Google should have enabled users to change the resolution and refresh rate like other phones have and this would be a non issue.

Nothing needs to "calibrate properly" when charging a battery.

Coming from a P4 XL and the battery life is great, but as we all know, the P5 had good battery life, because it had a smaller screen (le pixels), lower refresh rate and a weak ass processor, so it was definitely to expect that the P6 Pro would have less battery life, except if people life like a gremlin in a cave with unrealistic expectations^^

Hmm. Not true, your phone needs to understand where top and bottom is on that battery it's not a flashlight

As far as I know, Battery calibration is a myth. At least, it may as well be these days. It's a relic of recommendations for older, nickel-based batteries. Those needed calibration, modern lithium ones don't.

I dare you to put "lithium battery calibration" in your favorite search engine and do some reading.
