Hi all!
I have updated my WWE M8 (HTC_001) to Android 5.0.1 (via OTA). Since that I am facing really annoying issue.
The system itself works fine, no problems with Wifi, Vinration, etc. however it is switching off by itself.
Battery is well over 50 % charge (last time it was 88% and phone has switched itself off).
I don't know if it's the system itelsf or some app running in the background.
Today I thought I am gonna try installing 5.0.1 from scratch and I have flashed RRU via recovery, still same.
So about an hour ago I decided to root it, and I have installed Android Revolution HD 34 and problem still persists.
I don't know what is the cause of that, maybe someone has faced same problem ? Any advice would be much appreciated, cause at this moment in time I am no table to downgrade AFAIK. Sunshine doesn't support ART yet, so I have to wait for downgrade... But hopefully someone will know where is the issue ?

well you say there that you have s-off so you can downgrade firmware, hboot and software. Once s-offed it won't go back to s-on only by specific commands.
A ruu doesn't change it either. So it's a good option to try and ruu it back to kitkat.
Or try to recalibrate the battery. You can find more info here

Whoops, I have made a mistake in my first post, I am currently S-ON. I S-OFF'ed using Sunshine as I was flashing RUU from this thread http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563.
Originally my phone was from Three UK (H3G_001) and I've had to change CID to HTC_001 to flash RUU from thread mentioned above.
Afterwards I have put my phone back to S-ON using All-In-One Toolkit.
So currently I am S-ON with no option to S-OFF (Ias far as I know), so it looks like I 'm gonna have to stick to Lollipop.
I apologise for misleading in my first post, I really don't know how could I mix S-ON with S-OFF (and vice versa).
If I would be S-OFF I would know what to do but...
Anyway I will have a go with battery re-calibration and I will post results later on. But if someone knows different way or solution please let me know.
In the meantime thank you @Mr Hofs for your reply, maybe battery re-calibration will do the trick.

There is in my opinion no reason to ever go back to s-on (aside from warranty service), so this was a serious error on your part.

Yeah, now I know that, but since this is my first Android phone, i was doing everything first time (I am glad that it is actually working at all , thanks to XDA Dev forum). If I will manage to get S-OFF again, i will keep it S-OFF...
Ok, I tried both ways to re-calibrate the battery and still no luck, just about half an hour ago the phone switch off itself again. It looks Iike I will have wait for Sunshine to be updated for Lollipop support. Unless there is other way to S-OFF...
Anyway thanks for all replies

Hey,
I know there's already a thread on this but I wanted to ask which order I need to carry out the process and any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to return my DHD as there are problems with the speaker. I have a new radio, eng-off, s-off and a custom ROM. Which ones do I revert first in order to return to stock without messing up the phone?
Thanks !
You may be able to get away with sending the phone back even if it's not on a stock ROM. I have read other posts on here where people have sent their phones in for repair with custom ROM's and HTC have not been bothered about it, and whenever you send your phone in for any type of repair - they will always wipe the phone and re-install the phone with the latest stock ROM.
From what you have described about the problems you have got with your phone, I imagine the first thing HTC will do before doing any physical repairs on the phone is to re-flash the phone with the latest stock ROM to see if it fixes any of the problems on the phone.
My DHD has been back to HTC twice for the same camera blur problem and I had previously rooted the phone, Radio S-OFF and installed a custom ROM but then I did revert it back to stock with Radio back to S-ON right before I sent it back to HTC for the repair. The first time it went back HTC, all they did was re-flash the phone with the latest stock ROM and sent the phone back to me and hoped that it cured the problem. Within 10 minutes of getting the phone back I knew that the problem was still present and then within a couple of days it was back with HTC again for the same problem and that is when they finally physically repaired the phone.
Edit - from what I have just found out, it doesn't matter which ROM you have installed but the most important thing is to make sure that you revert the phone's Radio back to S-ON before sending it back.
Liam
Thanks, so I just have to get radio S-on back? What about eng-on ? I used the two tools to do it originally, so I'll just have to use them again ?

Yes that's right, just use the tool to revert them back to ON. When I did the process and after I used the tool to revert them back to ON, I just downloaded a stock RUU ROM that you run through Windows and then the program re-flashes your phone back to the stock ROM.
Liam
i would back to stock, just in case... i really don't think htc bothers with it, because it's way more simple to fix the phone than fight against the client.
but, since with the original RUU is very easy to back it to stock, i don't see why you shound't do...
regards!
Ok thanks. I have got radio back to S-ON but I still have eng-off. Will this matter? I can't seem to find out how to revert it back to on.

Did you read the instructions in my tool's thread? It says pretty clearly there that you should run stock RUU
I've been thinking this for a while, since I have an issue with volume rockers (they aren't as outside the chassis as a friend's) from the very first moment I bought.
Does anybody have this issue? or think it's a hardware problem HTC would repair?

almost everything desappear by flashing original RUU, except Radio S-OFF, that can be changed by jkoljo's tool.
but, since you lose the root when you flash RUU, you will root your phone again with visionary, after that, use the jkoljo's tool to get s-on, unroot and uninstall visionary. done, just it.

Not exactly but close. My volume rockers work, it's just they are sunken to bottom and haven't that normal touch i've seen on other DHDs
Anyway, thanks for linking post. I'll talk a bit there
Hi there.
I'm new to the forum but have lurked and used some of the great information and tools that are available here.
So firstly, thank you.
Now.
I bought my One X in China (Where I live), in around August. It seems as though the one I got isn't a regular One X and because of that I'm having some problems.
A month and a half or so ago I installed an AOKP Rom which I've had some pretty intense bugs with, such as the the phone restarting whenever I toggle WiFi on or off. Because of that, I finally attempted to return to stock today. After a while, I found some success. I restored my nandroid backup, reflashed the stock recovery and relocked the bootloader. Happy that I was back to normal, I went to download the Jelly Bean OTA update, but kept having errors when doing so. (The green bar would reach about 1/3 of the way and then a red triangle showed up.) I've tried to troubleshoot and in doing so have found out that my CID is "11111111", so I have no idea what to make of it. All i could find was that this is some kind of superCID, but if it's preventing me from installing an OTA update then how do I go around this?
Is it possible to change my CID to something more accessible? This is the international Tegra 3 model by the way.
Additionally, the HBOOT screen shows that my phone is "ENDEAVORU PVT SHIP S-OFF RL". Is this normal?
Any answers would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.
You're really lucky actually, because a lot of people want exactly your phone - SuperCID and S-OFF. You cannot flash OTAs on a SuperCID phone iirc, but you can unlock the bootloader and flash something else
Hi, there are fastboot commands to change your cid if you are s-off but I am not sure why you would want to.
With s-off you can just go and flash the 1.39 hboot from mikes thread (link from his arhd thread OP)
I have same setup as you and have been wondering what actually is stock for me if I ever needed it. I don't have a nandroid from when I got the phone and I guess that s-off and super cid means I could pick any one ? But which.
Sent from my HTC One X
Thanks for the replies. I guess i have a better understanding now of what these things all mean.
So I gather if I want to get the stock Jellybean ROM I have to flash it myself?
Eh, that's kind of a pain but I guess it's not too bad. Do I go about it in the same way that anyone else would or will there be a variation based on the situation of my phone?
Thanks
I reckon someone with an s-on would gladly swop with you if its a pain you have the most flexibility as it is.
Flash whichever update you like without worrying about the cid matching. That's the magic of super cid. Then because you are s-off you also have the option to downgrade if that ever took your fancy.
There are many guides on how to do this written far better than I could so just search the forum.
Enjoy
Sent from my HTC One X
I see.
I've had a look around and I'm still a little confused to be honest.
Because I'm S-Off and have SuperCID, does that mean I can just choose a Jellybean OTA Update, download it, install it and upgrade the HBOOT?
Everything will be the same as if I upgraded OTA?
Sorry for being so useless.
Don't hang me for this info, see it more as a pointer to more info to search on
What i have read before is that you can write yourself a CID and update the hboot with a firmware from that CID. then you can run any software out there......
Do not run a ruu, it might mess up your s-off to s-on
When I get to my pc I will write up what I did with a link.
I did as Mr Hofs said but I did not need to change my cid from super to do it.
I have never tried an ruu.

Ok so first i read this and watched his youtube vid http://www.flow-wolf.net/2012/10/htc-one-x-perfect-guide-for-beginners.html
Check video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQasxRPopSM he works with an S-Off
I started on HBoot 1.12 i believe
Then I got my unlock token handy (one from htcdev) and made sure fastboot working etc
Then did a nandroid (which i subsequently deleted but hey i tried to do the right thing )
Then I got the latest firmware for HBoot 1.39 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376 I downloaded the first 1.39 for WWE (x.xx.401.x - World Wide English (WWE))
No need to change your CID. Super CID works with any of them.
Now I just followed the usual steps explained many times here to flash the firmware.
You need to put the stock recovery back on. I got mine from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970&highlight=htc+one+x+*stock* EDIT: dont think you need this step actually -will let one of the pro's confirm.
Then relock bootloader and reboot in RUU and flash the firmware.
When done unlock bootloader again, flash custom recovery and flash a ROM. You can skip the extra step of flashing the boot.img as with S-Off your custom recovery can do it.
As mentioned by Mr Hofs I have no idea what an RUU would do to S-Off, Ive never tried.
Good luck.
SO, let me start off by mentioning that I am not a noob, but I JUST got this HTC M8 ( moved from M7 ) , I unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom recovery and rooted it, but I am having a problem every time I flash a custom ROM.... Any time after installing a custom ROM , the boot time on the phone becomes RIDICULOUS, I mean 5-10 mins EVERY time, not just initial boot ... The phone sits at the " this builld is for developers only blah blah blah" warning with the HTC logo in the back for a solid 5 mins usually, then the screen will turn off, and when I turn it on, it will be fine, but while it's in that state ( "loading?" ) if I receive a text message, I will still get both haptic and audio feedback, any ideas? I was trying to flash ARHD!
FLASHING STOCK ROM GETS RID OF THIS! ( but I want a custom ROM )
What custom rom and did you update your firmware already ?
I had the same issue. It's the firmware mismatch. The ROM is built on a different firmware than the one you are currently on.
Most of the time flashing the correct firmware will require S-off... (Sunshine was the only one that worked for me)
I've never run into this before on other phones or ROMs so it was definitely a learning experience for me.

ROM is Android Revolution HD and, no, I haven't updated my firmware yet. Is there a way to do it without S-OFF? Firewater doesn't work, and I realllllly can't afford to pay $25 for software to do it for me, after all , as a programmer, I know it's probably one line of code that changes it from firewater lol, in the end, they need to do the exact same thing, it's not like there's many different ways to achieve S-OFF, they all essentially follow the same process. Someone is just being greedy ( they probably designed SunShine for themselves, then thought " heyyyyyy profit", not cool in my books )

I didn't S-OFF yet, but I reverted to stock, and did the 4.4.3 OTA which bumped my FIrmware version past the ARHD 10.2 version, and now it works flawlessly!
Yeah, it's firmware, I also had this issue until i fixed it few days ago. I'm s-on (can't go s-off) and I've made it to upgrade my firmware to the newest one.
I just downgraded to 1.54.401.10 (or something similar) and then did official OTA. Now I don't have problems with signal, wifi or long boot times.

I've just finished rooting and installed a custom ROM on my device, but now I'm looking into S-Off. My question is, how?
I did this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391
and now I don't have Wi-Fi, which apparently means that my firmware needs to be updated.
How, exactly, does one do that when you're no longer on the service provider it was on?
I'm on T-Mobile now, it was on AT&T. The phone is an AT&T HTC One M8.
I've got the files for Firewater, but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it, other than following tutorials I've found. Anyway, if someone could assist me in this search, it would be greatly appreciated.
Chances are firewater is not going to work, you'll need to use Sunshine S-off (pay 25$), S-off jas nothing to do with carrier
Sunshine: http://theroot.ninja
Firewater instructions: http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/
If I try Firewater, is there a chance to royally mess up my work? I.E. brick me, or will it error out beforehand?
firewater does NOT work. and will never work again. You can own the files but they won't work as it has has to establish a connection to the s-off server which is offline. sunshine is the one and only way. you can read that in the s-off thread here on xda and on their website !
and also questions belong in the Q&A section so please use that board the next time instead of the general subforum.
good luck with sunshine

that will let you flash some roms here, not all
You'll have to relock your bootloader to flash it - fastboot oem lock -
and when your finished updateing unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP and root

Ah, see, this is the info that I couldn't find at all. I had no idea it was server-related, so it wouldn't work. I thought all the files were local, that's why I was investigating. Well, as long as Sunshine will work and not mess anything up, I guess that's what I'm going to have to do. I would just like to get confirmation from someone who knows my exact situation and not search the forums to a situation "Similar" to mine and eff up my phone.

S-OFF means do as you like, change firmwares, convert to GPE and back to sense. S-OFF is freedom
Okay, here's where I'm at, if anyone would inform me in the direction I should take...
I've unlocked the bootloader, flashed a ROM, and rooted. Wi-Fi doesn't work because I need the newer firmware on the device.
In order to get the newer firmware, I need to have S-Off. I don't. Sunshine doesn't work because the ROM I have flashed is a 5.0.1 version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2706391 If it helps.
Can I go digging to find a KitKat-based ROM and see if Sunshine will work then, or do I need to go through the BS to flash stock everything on my phone and THEN run Sunshine? I'd really like some advice before I royally mess something up.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found this and it looks like something that might work. Flash InsertCoin, download and pay for Sunshine, S-Off, flash firmware, go back to SkyDragon?

Forgive me for asking, but I've searched... Where is this rooted stock one you're talking about?
All right, I've flashed back to as stock as I can find, but it's still not allowing Sunshine to be installed.
However, I've stumbled upon something saying that if the Recovery is fastboot booted, it acts as though the device is S-Off? If I run the recovery in such a manner, could I possibly flash a new Firmware on there like that?

If your wifi isn't working with ViperOne, then the firmware didn't flash correctly. Go to your bootloader/hboot and check the readout there. What it says under OS is your firmware version. If it is blank it is because of your recovery. TWRP 2.8.0.3 is recommended. You can also tell by the hboot number. 3.19 = 4.4.4 firmware

Right at this point, I don't care to go back to Sense firmware. I'm spoiled by the bright look of SkyDragon, so this is where I'm staying!
Hey guys,
First post and thread, unfortunately. May have been done before, so sorry if that's the case (and if it is I guess a quick link can clear this confusion up!)
I've got a tmobile HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.4 with an unlocked boot loader, clockworkmod 6.0.4.8 with s-on.
New android update is out and while I'm not necessarily keen on updating it, the icon is annoying. As well, I originally rooted the phone for some apps and sorts that I don't even use and I'm mainly interested in just bringing the phone back to a stock recovery so I can unroot it.
Tried using the RUU posted but I believe due to the s-on and unlocked boot loader, it doesn't work for me. Step one is an error on it.
What can I do here to bring the phone back to stock recovery? I'm not 100% I made a backup before I put cwm on it. May have but for arguments sake let's say I didn't.
Any and all help is appreciated. thanks so much everyone.

RUUs run fine with s-on, and I don't know why folks keep posting that it doesn't.
But you do however, need to relock the bootloader (since you are s-on) to run the RUU. Its absolutely mandatory (with s-on), and almost certainly why the RUU fails. THe RUU also needs to match your CID (but if you are properly trying a T-Mob RUU on a T-Mob version M8, that is not the issue), and further you cannot "downgrade" or run an older version RUU (older hboot) than what is on the phone.
But again, unlocked bootloader alone will make the RUU fail.
I haven't really seen a whole lot of s-off since firewater hasn't worked any longer. I kind of figured the unlocked bootloader was an issue as well. Mobile right now and working so not a whole lot I can do. Basically make sure the CID matches the RUU and relock the bootloader and I should be good to go? I picked up the T-Mobile RUU and I have a tmobIle M8, I didn't really think to check the CID, I just mainly assumed the failed run was from other sources.

As long as you have the right carrier RUU, the CID will also match. I assume T-Mobile US? As there is also T-Mobile in Europe.
As long as its right carrier (CID) and not trying to run an older version RUU, the unlocked bootloader is the only problem.
Yes T-Mobile US.
I'll have to double check the RUU, I'm pretty sure I grabbed it off here from a different thread, but like you said, the unlocked bootloader obviously was an issue.
In the case, and I'm assuming it's rare, that it could be that, is there an easy way to tell whether or not I have the most current RUU?
Thanks a bunch, really appreciating the help. I've been kind of at a standstill with this and haven't really tried much in fear of killing the phone.

Do you mean its rare to run the wrong version RUU? If so, I'd say no, its not rare at all. Folks are often not aware of the version requirement (with s-on, this requirement is bypassed with s-off) and try to run an "old" RUU.
All the T-Mob US RUUs are posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
3.32 is Android 4.4.4
4.20 is Android 5.0
3.32 is what I have at the moment. With android 5 coming over the air a week or so ago for myself and 4.4.4 being on the phone when I got it just a couple months back, that's what I guess I was insinuating by rare. But thank you a bunch for your help. Again it's very much appreciated. Obviously got myself in a little over my head here.
