So after taking a OTA that went out a couple weeks ago in hopes in was lollipop I found myself without root... PurpleDrake doesn't work, stump doesnt work... PurpleDrake says I have root but thats clearly not the case because after I reboot it there is not root. I checked and the software version is 10r. Has anyone else gotten root to work on 10r? They also decided to disable download mode because I have tired at least 20 times and all I ever get is the charging animation. Is anyone else even on 10r? I really just want to smash this phone with a hammer now because I have tried everything.
There is clearly something wrong because if I open stump root it says rooted, but if I try and open twrp manager it says root is required for this app and closes.... where is my sledge hammer....
Have you tried this method? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3004158
Worked on mine after PD failed.
I can get as far as the fakesu promot, but even if I just ls /temp it hangs and doesnt do anything. Im pretty sure there are gremlins in this phone.
Turns out that for some reason ADB doesn't play well with my USB 3.0 controller. Plugged it into a 2.0 port and it worked fine the first try. Seems legit...
I went through the whole hammer/smash phase with 10r as well. I downgraded, rooted(super smoothly), flashed 10r update through odin to get rid of FU notification(Firmware Update). Running smoothly since. With purpledrake btw.
It's weird... I dirty flashed the 10r zip over the stock software that came with our phones (10c?), and right after it asked if I wanted to flash Super SU, which I did, and that was it. Been rooted the whole time.

Armandopjr, where did you get the 10r zip? Do you have a link?

Hi I was rooted using cmenards int rom and I decided top use odin to go back to stock so I could do the update so I can get the new modem. It is how I have always done things when an update comes out even though I know I am going to root and use a custom I like to have a currrent stock backup and the latest modem. I am not new to this.so I dont know what is up.
I am using pc odin 3.07 i put the file in PDA and I tried to install the twrp with odin and it says that it worked but when I boot into recovery it is still stock. So I tried the CWM for the 7100 with the same results. (both of them I have used before with no problem) So I tried to redownload everything still the same resutls then I tried resetting everything and no luck. I gotta say I am stumped. The only thing I can think of is I was going to use kies to do the update but it was on my pc before but It hads to do an update so maybe the updated version of kies is doing something annd as it turned out I didnt need to use kies I just used the ota. So I am uninstalling it now as I type but I dont think it will do anything.
Can anyone help me please?

It's a known issue on newer android devices, it will automatically reflash the stock recovery. Try using goomanager or exynos abuse, I'm positive one will ask you if you want to disable it (I remeber it popping up)
Oooh I read about that so thats what it is. Goo manager does not work I tried but what is ths other thing. I guess I have to get it here? I will google it I see it is not in market thank you. So if that does not work how do I get around this?
Okay I figured it out. And I actually didnt even haver to hook up to my pc. I was ****ting (which is where I come up with all my good ideas.) And I remember reading about the security hole in the exynos processor and the app chainfire came up with. Which turns out to be the exynos abuse app that killahurtz was talking about. So I remembered that with the app you can use the exploit to root so I downloaded the .apk and installed and rooted and then used goo.im app to install the latest twrp. So thanks to killahurtz for recomending it and chainfire for the app and exploit and samsung for being a little bit dopey One thing I am still wondering is how would you solve this problem if the security hole did not exist? I know I saw something in the toolkit about it So if this didnt work would In have been able to hookup tob the pc and use the toolkit without having root access?
In ExynosAbuse, it gives you the option to plug the hole after you have rooted, only thing is you may break your camera in the process. I would just stay away from pirated and sketchy apps for now.
No matter what i tried i can not get root on this phone i just got it about three days ago.
its a Tmobile Phone
it came with 4.1.1
Build UVDLJA
Ive tried root66 but no dice, i can not run any thing root, everything requiring root hangs in the loading screen and when i try to update the binary for superuser it fails in the acquiring root permissions section,
I never get the prompt to deny or allow.
this is is my 5th android phone and the first to present this issue to me.
Can anyone provide insight on why this is happening?
After you ODIN, did you see the super user icon? If not, you may not did it correctly or you chose the wrong TARZ file to ODIN.

Could be a bad download. I would re-download the root66 file and try again. Just to be sure, are you extracting the .tar file and flashing it in the PDA section in Odin?

Have you tired after you Odin root66 booting into recovery and wiping data and cache?

I had the same issue until I saw this video and it worked. Follow the link and it'll show u, for some reason this recovery file is the only one that worked.

i had this when 4.3 first came out.
i cant remember how i got around it.
i think you have to revert so that when u load KNOX it says "INSTALL" so its not installed (even though its present).
then update Superuser to latest version after using CL_autoroot.
here is a thread i made about it a while back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535015
I actually found a thread right before you posted this on here that stated something about ES file explorer so I downloaded that searched for superSU and clicked install even though it was already on the phone. And that allowed me to get into superSU then I used uninstaller pro and completely uninstalled Knox all together and made superSu into a system app. Been working flawlessly ever since. Then I installed triangle away and reset my flash counts and surprisingly they reset all the way to 0. I appreciate your response hopefully others that are having troubles with this see this and can root their galaxys without as much problems as I had.
Hi
I rooted my phone a couple of months ago, a few days ago I accidentally updated superSU on google play. It said had to restart phone and update etc. So I did that but then I went into greenify and only could do the manual close and root was gone. So I used odin and clockwork method and did everything right but root was still not there. Did it a couple of times and still couldnt get root then uninstalled SuperSU and tried again and still nothing. I really dont know what the issue is. Could anyone give me a hand? Dunno whats going on
I have GT-I9190
Thanks
Try to flash this from odin

did you tried to root it with towelroot ?
Hi
I tried again and it just worked. After the 7th attempt with same method. Its odd.
LG 10.1 wireless only. I upgraded to Lollipop and I am trying to root with the one click script I get a screen that says download mode I start the script my tablet switches to a screen that says updating firmware and that is where it sits. What am I doing wrong? I installed the drivers and Windows can see the tablet when it is on.
I tried many methods to root Lollipop stock on my G Pad 7, but this one is the only that worked for me. It requires to do steps manually, but it works! I was in your same situation, hope it helps..

[ zer0lab.dev ~ Lollipop stock on LG G2 ~ xda free ]
Thanks I'll try that in the next day or two.

Try with the version 1.3 LG one click root
I have always had to do steps manually. The auto-rooter app only worked once for me across all my devices. It seems to not always work reliably, typically requiring 3 or more attempts before the script actually takes off and roots the device.

Mine rooted first try with kingroot on lollipop , but use at least version 4.1 and 4.5 update from kingroot allowed me to use supersume to switch for upersu with successful binary update... For some reason I am NOT seeing anyone else anywhere mentioning have done this method like me so I'm curious why more people haven't figured that one out lol or I'm just missing a bunch of post somewhere

There are a few different posts around regarding using Kingroot for the G Pad. I had a significant delay in root appearing/working initially then getting king off of the pad. But recently updated everything, tried again and didn't have as many problems.
Yeah it was not a lot of issues to kingroot and switch to supersu, the problem now is I rebooted one day all the sudden and it is stuck in a boot loop I cannot get out of or find clear instructions on how to get out of. I can get to the Verizon logo, or recovery where any option send me to the fast boot screen and it will send me to a blank screen. I don't have a computer and don't really know what to do with it. The crazy thing is I didn't do anything at all that would have cost that it just did it, unfortunately it's just one of the risk of rooting
