You did hold the power button too right? I'm asking just to make sure, not trying to be a smart mouth. Try hold power + both Vol. buttons without the battery, and plug in the usb cord to computer (with the other end attach to the device already of course). If that works, you can put the battery back in.

Get a USB JIG from http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-epic-4g-touch/ They also have a service that can fix your power button issue.

ADB Reboot <download/recovery> will work with USB debugging on.
But would caution against doing stuff like that right now, if the power button is wonky you don't want it acting up and doing something like rebooting the phone during a flash

[Q] How do you tell if phone is in download mode?

So, I had to replace the screen on my phone because it was cracked. But not after putting it all back together, the phone just boots loops. I am trying to follow the guide about unbricking your phone but I am unsure about getting into download mode. I hold down both volume buttons and plug in the usb into the computer, but noting happens except the phone just keeps boot looping. How do you tell if phone is in download mode? What does the screen look like?
If you get into download mode, you can't miss it. It is pretty obvious. To get your phone into download mode, shut off your phone (Hold power button for 12 second), wait 2-3 sec, press both volume button and then insert usb cable.
Hmm. Seems like my problem is something else. I can't get in into download mode. I cant even get the phone ti turn on if it isn't plugged in.

Could your battery be dead? Getting to download screen is a bit tricky as far as the timing is concerned.
USB should be already inserted, otherwise phone will just boot when you plug the cable in.
So usb pluged in, next turn off the phone via power button, now hold both volume buttons + power, should work.

^this has been my experience as well. Turn phone off. Insert USB. Wait for charging screen to flash on and disappear. Then press and hold vol+ vol- power until Download Mode screen flashes on, then release buttons.
First of all when in download mode you'll see a box displayed saying "download mode" it's hard to miss even you try to.
Here's how I did it. Instead of trying to push both vol + and- , press the middle part of the volume rocker. And press power button at the same time. USB cable can be plugged in advance or can be inserted later on. Only advantage of plugging the USB later is it gives you a proper grip and reassurances you've pressed the button combination correctly. Note that the phone will look for a USB presence before booting to download mode..hope this helps

bad power button

Is there an alternate way to turn phone on if power button is not working? Checked out recovery and donload mode and both require use of the power button. Also tried holding volume down + camera then plugging the usb charger but nothing.

Try Quick Boot in the store. Keep in mind that you may not be able to enter download mode still.

Hard reset fastboot is enabled

Hello everyone, my girlfriend is having an issue where her m8 won't turn on. We looked at it last night and put it on the charger (although we didn't expect it would be dead already) and then left it over night. Woke up this morning and it's still having the same issue. I tried doing both a hard reset and soft reset, just anything to get it out of this weird loop it's in. Everywhere I look for information on hard resetting it says you need to disable fastboot - something a little difficult to do if your phone won't turn on. Are there any other tricks or work arounds that maybe I'm overlooking? I'd prefer to stay away from 3rd party fixes if possible that will void the warranty as I don't want her phone to get rejected if we need to send it out for repair. The closest repair facility is a bit of a distance so I want to see if there is something we can do from home first.
Thanks!
Disabling the "fastboot" option isn't really necessary.
Although I'm not sure what "weird loop" means. If its actually doing a boot loop, and rebooting, then just hold vol down to enter bootloader.
Otherwise, if its just "stuck" on the boot screen, then hold power and vol up to force a reboot (hold for maybe 10 seconds or so); and the moment the screen goes dark, let go of vol down and start holding vol down and don't let go until you see bootloader.

My apologies, my terminology may be incorrect.
The display is not turning on. Holding power + volume up or power + volume down do not get the screen to turn on.
The instructions I looked at all say disable fastbooting before trying to force boot or hard reset. So that was my confusion.
I really appreciate the help.

Any charging LED when charger connected? Any response from computer if you connect the phone?
Leave the phone on charger (wall charger, not connected to a computer) overnight, and try the button combos again (also, try just holding power down, no other buttons; in addition to the button combos you listed). Try this with the charger connected, as well as without.
Some folks have gotten their seemingly dead M8's to revive with apparently random combinations of button pressing (often holding the buttons for a long time, 1 to 2 minutes) charger plugged in, etc.

The only reasons instruction say that, is that the phone either needs to be "real" power off, or a reboot in order for the button combo to go into bootloader (power + vol down) to work. When "fastboot" is selected in Power settings, it actually prevents a real power down (its actually just a sleep state). But if you reboot, it doesn't matter. A reboot is a reboot, it doesn't matter if "fastboot" is enabled. And Power + vol up is one way to force a reboot.
None of this matters, if the phone is not responding (screen not coming on) at all in the first place.

I did leave it on the wall charger last night and was playing with different combinations. I'm going to try plugging it into my computer when I get home. I'm not noticing any LEDs come on however which is what is making me think it's not a screen issue.

I recall reading that someone got a similar issue sorted by hold Volume Up or Volume Down + Power button while holding the phone under a bright light(proximity sensor at the front needs to be directly under light).
There was similar threads/methods on the old HTC One(M7) too that apparently worked. Don't know if it's just coincidence or what Might be worth a shot.
Edit: Volume UP OR Volume down, not both at the same time

Any other suggestions?

Have you tried holding Power and Vol Up button when the phone is pluged in?
Tri taking SD Card and SIM card out and start.
Have you tried another charger?

LG G Pad 8.3 V500, possibly bricked itself - what can I try to fix it?

I have a V500 that won't boot, and doesn't appear to charge either. Here's what it will do:
1) When plugged into a mains charger, flash up the LG logo briefly. I don't need to press the power button for this to happen.
2) When plugged into a mains charger with both volume keys held down, boot into download mode.
If I plug it into a USB port it won't power on. It will briefly be detected by Windows but not as any useful device. I cannot get it into download mode when it's connected to a USB port, and if I do (2) then unplug it powers off.
My powered USB hub has an indicator light. With the tablet connected, whenever I press the power button this light comes on for a second or so. If I connect the USB cable whilst holding down both volume keys this light also comes on, but the tablet does not go to download mode.
I have already changed the main flex cable in case this was the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Try it with one of the USB plugs at the back of the computer.
I've got devices I can transfer files on and off via the hub built into my monitor but if I want to do anything lower level I have to use a USB port on the computer.
I have finally been able to sort this.
I'm not sure precisely what was wrong. I changed the internal USB flex cable and this made no difference.
Next I bought a switchable "data/charging" USB cable that was very useful in diagnosing circumstances where it would enter download mode.
After much messing around I found I could plug the device into a powered USB hub that wasn't connected to a laptop and enable download mode, then connecting the hub to the laptop it would stay in download mode and allowed me to reflash it back to stock so I knew the software was at least okay.
It still wouldn't do anything other than show the initial bootloader logo though, and this only when plugging in a cable. Pressing the power button did nothing.
Since it was still open, I disconnected the battery. Tried powering on with the cable connected, nothing. Left the cable connected, connected the battery - bing! We have life.
It's now bootlooping but it's playing animations and making sounds, so I'm hopeful I can factory reset the device. The power button works at least

Make sure your device is fully charged and turned off.
Simultaneously press and hold the power and volume down buttons.
When the LG logo shows up, release the power button only.
Now press and hold the power and volume up button while keeping your hold on the volume down button.
When the factory reset screen appears, release your hold on all buttons.
Press the power button to continue.
Press the power button again to confirm if you’re sure you wish to continue with the reset.

Great success! Device is working
Clarification, please
If you have a V500, explain how you can hold VOLUME button simultaneously in UP and DOWN position. It's just one rocker button, but you keep referring to it as 2 separate volume buttons. This goes for madscout quoted solution as well.

I think we're not on the same page as far as my query goes. Forget the POWER button - it is not an issue. Because VOLUME button is a rocker it is impossible to hold down VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN positions simultaneously as madscout solution advises: "Now press and hold the power and volume up button while keeping your hold on the volume down button". Such trick is impossible even with 3 fingers, because the Volume rocker can be pressed and held either in Up or Down position. Madscout wants us to keep it pressed in both positions simultaneously, the crucial phrase being "while keeping your hold". Now, do you get my drift? And explain to me what madscout meant? Thanks!
My V500s allow the whole rocker to be pressed in at the same time. It's not a true rocker.
If you open the device up, you will see two independent buttons.

REALLY? That's a surprise. Thanx, bro. Sneaky LG put in fake rocker button.. Meaning, that madscout's solution requires 3 fingers - 1 for Power and 2 for Volume.
Or 1 finger only for Volume if it's pressed exactly in the middle. Crazy world.
Any help? Similar situation at my Gpad - usually after initial animation is powered off. If I make factory reset i can start device, i can adjust some setings, but in a few minutes it is switching off. V50020F and no root is there.
