Can't flash recovery, newbie help. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
before posting I've done many search and tried many solution with no effort,
so the problem is: I can't flash any recovery over the one I have: cwm 5.8.0.0
I've tried:
1) adb/fastboot:
adb recognize the phone then when I reboot to bootloader (under win 8.1....) adb can't find no more the device. (usb error code 43)
2)using PD98IMG.zip,
bootloader freezes parsing PD98IMG.zip.

Any help or idea appreciated.

Your prob is your windows OS. Nothing but issues with 8.1. Try vista ,windows 7, or even xp

Your other prob is that your bootloader is unlocked. To flash ruu, it needs to be locked.

Ummm..just realized...u looking to down/upgrade your bootloader...or are you actually referring to a recovery. Your post is contradictory

Sorry, I meant only the recovery.
-1) with this fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/general/guide-fix-fastboot-windows-8-1-t2858337
-2) and with htc sync manager usb drivers
..finally I've flashed it to TWRP 2.8.1.2 ACE

That version of twrp is awesome.

Yep. You're welcome. Wow

[Q] HTC Desire HD. Need help! Setup screen vanishes.

Hi XDA team,
I recently have a working Desire HD phone. Then I had this app that made my phone hang on startup. So i tried doing a factory reset. Then after doing a factory reset it gets stuck on the HTC logo. So i tried to go on recovery and wipe out the cache. Now when i try to open my phone it goes through the booting process but when it is supposed to go to the setup screen (the screen where you should be able to pick out the language to be used, wifi setup, network setup etc) the setup option just flashes for a split second then disappears. I have checked my android phone on bootloader and discovered that it is already rooted. Any idea what i should do to have this functioning again?
Where did u factory reset?recovery or bootloader?
---------- Post added at 01:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:08 PM ----------
Also need to know if you have unlocked bootloader. S on or s off?
I did the factory reset on the bootloader menu. then after that i tried booting my phone then it gets stuck on the HTC logo screen. So i went to the bootloader menu again and now go to recovery. Then did a wipe/clean cache. After that i rebooted the phone again. Now it goes through the booting process but now as i said above the setup screen that should have been in the screen is now just flashing for a split second then disappears. So now i'm stuck again and has no way to access my phone.

The problem is you did it via bootloader. You should never do that. It corrupts your SD card. Always factory reset via phone settings or recovery
---------- Post added at 01:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ----------
My advice is to get a new card and put a ROM in it via a PC...then place in your device and run the ROM via recovery.
---------- Post added at 01:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:49 PM ----------
If that fails, you'll probably need to run a ruu.
I have removed the SD card prior to doing factory reset. So i dont think the SD card was corrupted or something. Anything i can do to have my phone functioning again?
In any case,NEVER reset via bootloader..
---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------
I would download a known working ROM to your SD card via the PC and then put card into device...boot into recovery via button combo.. Do a full wipe again..factory reset...clean cache partition...wipe system...wipe dalvik and then flash ROM. Don't flash any gapps. Let's get this phone operational. Lol
---------- Post added at 01:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:57 PM ----------
P.s. what recovery are you using?

What does running a RUU do? Also should i use the stock ROM in this site? I want it the same as before.
Running an ruu will get your device back to stock. U won't lose s off but u will have to lock bootloader again and unlock again after ruu is finished.

I am thinking of doing it myself so i might need some walkthroughs from an expert. Based from my screenshot is there anything i need to do before using the stock ROM on the link i placed above?
If your device is completely unusable, then flashing a ruu would be your best bet. Let me know your location and we can properly flash a ruu if necessary

I am from Philippines. Can you give a step by step procedure wherein i could follow it and have it done at my home? The device is currently unusable since i cannot go through the setup part of the phone since the setup menu screen just passes for a split second and vanishes. It would really be great to have step by step things i could follow to proceed in fixing my phone.

U will have to lock your bootkoader in order to flash ruu..after ruu is finished,u will have to unlock bootloader again then flash a custom recovery

I suppose you downloaded correct version of RUU, used an actual proper usb cable for data transfer, preferably original cable, connected to usb2, possibly disabled antivirus, disconnected internet connection just to reduce stress on the system, tried downloading same RUU a few times, restarted your PC, turned phone off for 10 minutes and tried again, tried different PC, installed correct drivers?

Unless someone else has better idea, or knowledge from personal experience, I would try:
1. Option unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP and rooting and then hopefully flashing CM12 from which you can easily go back to stock via RUU.
2. Option download different RUU making sure it's not lower but equal or higher build
3. Try sdcard method with renaming RUU (you can find this tutorial in "back to stock" forum for this device. I think it's started by voidzero user.

Where would I get stock recovery for my htc m8s.

Getting confused trying going back to Stock

Hey guys,
i have a european HTC 10 with root, stock android 6, s-on and Team Win Recovery Projekt 3.0.2-6. I wanna go to full stock (stock recovery) and update to official Nougat
I googled and found people saying to use RUU. My CID is HTC_034 and I downloaded RUU zip for this CID.
I put it on my root sd card and enter downlaod mdoe wit hvol down and power, confirm with vol up and get a error that something is missing. (Edit: 19 RU_MAIN_VER_FAIL os-version in adnroid-info missing or i)
Did I do something wrong? Or is my dl corrupt?
are there other ways?
Is this way also for stock recovery?
thanks in advance

The ruu will give you stock recovery. With twrp, just flash the latest version after ruu

It took me a while since my internet is slow
So, after dl the right version it worked. I had trouble with my drivers to get fastboot to work but it did in the end. I locked the bootloader after that because the video i followed said so after RUU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIX94bxx6VM).
Now i think i should have flashed TWRP first to get everything original right? With a locked bootloader it wont work or will it?

yeah, i need to send it in. i re unlocked and used my file but now my homebutton isnt working anymore :/ it worked before i flashed 2.41.403.1 even after RUU it worked.
also, when i go into my bootloader it still says that my software is modified. before i had stock it said official. should i have flashed original recovery and then lcoked the bootloader? :/

Just do ruu. That will include stock recovery. Then lock bootloader. No need for twrp

You can't get "locked" status without S-Off. You can only get "relocked" status which will show that the bootloader was once unlocked.

If it works after an RUU then there is no need to send it for repairs. It's probably from the ROM you are running or some other software related issue.

I'm aware of that, however that wasn't asked and I was expecting the next question to be about relocked status. Besides, even with s off and locked status ( which I have ) there is still a message on set up regarding the device being a test device anyway
