I have a flashed Note 2 to Boost mobile (had it done at a store). Is there a guide to backup my flash settings on my Note 2? I don't have the original donor phone since it was done at the store so I'd feel a lot better if I had some sort of image file that I can simply load onto the phone in case the flash on my phone is corrupted somehow (via update, etc.)
Also, if I were to upgrade to a Note 3, is there a guide to transfer my flash settings from the Note 2?
Thanks in advance!

Im also interested in the 1st part of this question, how would one go about backing up all the settings changes that were performed during a flash? I have screenshots from DFS but is there a faster way to restore them without manually inputting them again?
Just YouTube galaxy to boost and there are some good tutorials in what you need to do.

Hello there , just bought a brand new Bell Samsung Galaxy S3 yesterday , wondering if someone wants to give me some advice on what to back up or write down or anything before i go and root my phone and start messing with it. ANY advice will be appreciated!
not sure...
Not sure what you'll need to "write down" before you start rooting. Just make sure you're really really careful and follow all the instructions for your specific device. Download exactly the right files for your device and carrier, make sure via forum comments that others are successful using your hardware and carrier. As for backups, make sure your stuff is synced and backed up with your google account under account & sync options (this will take care of most things), and if you're worried about losing texts use SMS Backup first. You can't use Titanium until you root. That said, I haven't seen a root method that will wipe anything from your device (unlike the Galaxy Nexus or other phones).
Here is the forum link for the Root method that won't trip your flash counter (according to the post it works with Bell, I have an AT&T myself):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Again, make sure and download EXACTLY the right files for your device and carrier and follow the instructions exactly. Once you've rooted, you can run Titanium Backup, and if you choose to install CWM Recovery, you can use that to make a nandroid backup to your external SD card before each time you flash a custom ROM. Other than that, have fun!
Thanks! wanted to know if i needed to backup anything other than apps/texts before rooting , like if there was a chance to lose any of my factory bell stuff , etc
By the way , I bought the white S3 and so far like it (been 24 hours)
I recently purchased a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 and would like to make a Full Backup of the NV. (and be able to restore/edit if needed) I notice the following link for Galaxy SIII http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804123
The question I have is does this also work for us Note 2 people? If it does, it would make me feel better about flashing a custom rom onto this phone. If anyone could shed some light on if this like works with our phone.. Please let me know... (and yes, I read the entire post.. along with this long post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997 both places did not address if this works with the Note 2...)
Yes ive backed up and restored using exactly that process

If you don't mind, could you state which method worked for you, and where you rooted? did you have a base Rom installed? Was the phone unlocked?
I tried both of these methods and found that I could read the NV, but not write to the NV. Here is a little data about my phone: Base stock rom. Rooted using Exynos Abuse Apk. I also unlocked the phone using code *#197328640#. After trying both of these methods I then installed TWRP.
Thanks for any information...
No I think I was rooted. I actually used all of the methods. I used the toolkit method by mskip. I used the nv reader writer method. And then I did one more way but I forgot what it was. Let me check.
Also. I don't t think rooting the phone matters as to whether you can back it up or not., actually it doesnt.
Secondly I do my backups on stock rom. Always. Just because I want everything to be correct you know?
Edit* man look. DO NOT try writing to your nv. All that you need to do is READ. So everything is ok as long as you are not trying to write anything to nv.
The only time you need to write to nv is when you are actually perform a restoration of your nv data...get it?
Read = nv reader program is looking around for the info to remember
Write= nv reader program REWRITING data to the nv aka restore.
Another thing to keep in mind is that nv reader program will write just about anything to the nv if you arent careful and that alone can ruin your phone. Moral of the story is to make sure you write the correct stuff back in if you are restoring.
Backing up is easy just let the program run. And save the file wherever you need it. Bam finished
Im not being condescending by the way. I just try to explain things as easy as I can. Sometimes itight seem like im rude. But believe me mate I dont have a rude hair on my head.
If you have anymore problems or questions feel free to pm me

Hi,
Were you able to backup your Note 2? I'm in the same boat, and don't know which method is best for the Note 2.
Thanks

I seem to be able to back up the information, but anytime I made a change, and tried to write those changes back to the NV file, they would not take. Tried both methods in the OP as described by those links, was able to look/save the data, but no luck making any changes stick during a write back.
That brought up the question that if/when a ROM change corrupted my phone, would either method be able to write back to the NV file and save my phone from a bricked status. I highly doubt that either of those methods work for our phone other than to view/save the NV data.
Please, If I am mistaken, could someone point me to the correct link, or at least explain how they where able to make the changes to the NV file stick during a write back.
Yes just follow the directions in the post. It works
If you were smart you would just do BOTH methods and keep BOTH files just to be safe instead of trying to figure out which one works by asking people on this forum that nine times out of ten dont know theirselves.
Might sound harsh or mean or whatever but I always find it best to protect myself as many ways as possible. I mean after all It was my money that paid for the phone right?

First off i am new to android had blackberries and iphones for the past few years and finally decided to upgrade and get myself an android! I have the Note II SGH-I317M Rogers device unlocked to be used with Telus (csc has been changed to so i can use Telus firmware) i learned how to flash roms yesterday after hours of research and i now feel comfortable doing it. In this post though http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575 i am a little confused. It says "ROM Works with Rogers Note II. See post #3." but apparently those are old versions. Am i safe to use "ULTIMATE ROM v1" from page one? I know this is a little confusing so if you are confused by what i am asking let me know and i will try to clarify.

I don't know this ROM. But if it works. It always works. They wouldn't downgrade. Just make sure you get any modem data if needed. You don't want to flash it and then have no data connection.
To be extra safe always have this ready to go.
Firmware for rogers.

Directions (for at&t use above firmware)

You can always go back to square 1

Thank you very much! I already have the stock firmware on my computer as a backup and i have backed up the CWM recovery.
One more N00B question though what exactly is modem data?
Again thanks for all your help!

I think he means the NV backup ( Imei backup) so, if your data connection messes up or somehow your imei becomes 0. you would have a backup of it.
my Galaxy Note II (or any phone for that matter) and so far I find the forums a bit intimidating. First, I would like to know how many different models of Note II phones are out there and how do I know which one I have? What are the major differences between the models? I thought Samsung only made one model of Note II Phone, I live in Canada and my current carrier is Rogers. Secondly, I want to be able to unlock my phone first before I try to root my phone. I understand that I will have to do a factory wipe to go back to the original version to unlock, my question is, what about the apps and the associated data that I want to keep and put back on my phone, how do I deal with this?
First, are you sure that you want to root and flash your phone?
I'd strongly recommend running stock for a while before doing that.
If you're a true noob then you could muck something up and find yourself in deep water for very little gain.

Hi & welcome! First up to check your model number in "about phone" then Google to see the boot loader state. If your phone has a locked boot loader then unlocking it will delete all device data. If your phone is unlocked then rooting it will not delete your data (which is a good thing). If/when unlocked download cf-auto-root for your particular device then flash through Odin. After root i'd recommend finding the latest cwm recovery.img image & flash again through Odin. The first thing you need to do next is perform a "backup" through cwm. After that download titanium backup (playstore) & backup all "user apps & system data". Now you're good to flash Roms etc.. Good luck! Oh & YouTube the installation process so you're not going blind. There's plenty out there.

The second thing you should do after rooting, and BEFORE flashing anything, is to backup your efs partition. The most common way to brick a Samsung device is to damage this partition and if it happens to you and you don't have an efs backup then you are screwed.

Hello all!
I am in dire need of assistance and unsure of what to do next
The tablet I have is a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 7.0<stands for 7 inches? Model number is: SM-T210 and the Android version is 4.2.2. I believe this is the 2013 version tablet.
Short Version: :
I need some help and understanding of what order to do these things.
I read that installing a custom ROM helps with the performance a lot
Do I install the custom ROM first? Or do I need a custom recovery ( TWRP being the popular on)
Also, does my device need to be rooted?
A little confused at the order, what I do/do not need, and where to download all this from
Any more enlightnemt about what I should do next will be really helpful.
Otherwise I will just have to purchase a tablet :? (will installing a custom rom, rooting etc actually make my painfully slow tab3 faster? Or shall I just buy a new tablet?)
Long Version
Just some background info this current tablet:
The other day I 'foraged and found' the Samsug Galaxy Tab3 that my father was given for free with the purchase of his Samsung phone back in 2013. The tablet was hardly used, no files (photos or documents), some apps on there, basic use from him at work. I have used it for a few days and it is quite slow/performance etc. This is after the factory reset, but not sure if I will keep it as its still a bit sluggish and driving me nuts!. I have performed the standard and basic 'how to make your tablet faster', by turning animations to 0.5, downloading a differnt launcher, moving apps to microSD card etc but it doesnt help a lot.
So I was going to purchase another cheap(ish) tablet, but some wandering research has allowed me to stumble upon info about 'installing custom ROM's, flashing, backing up using TWRP custom recovery'.
Now I am no noob when it comes to tech. as 'I am a 90's kid who grew up with it' . But I am also no expert, however I come with open arms when learning about new techie methods/techniques.
And this installing custom ROM's sounds interesting, especially as my tablet is not really usable everyday, so I dont have anything to lose by tweaking it!
So I thought, lets start by watching a video 'How to Install A Custom ROM On Any Android Device (2018)'> But then it mentions that I need a custom recovery, TWRP being the popular one> But then that video tutorial says that I need my device to be rooted! So thats 3 different video tutorials that I need to follow. But I read that it does not need to be rooted, then I read that you dont need a PC for custom ROM's but some videos use it..oh God! As you can probably tell, this is really confusing for someone approaching this new area of 'rooting/custom rom'.
I would really like some help/advice about where I should start, what tutorials to use (I do like videos), what to download, what devices I need, softwares etc!
Hopefully the information I have provided helps
Thank you!
This is not the right forum for your tablet. You have a Galaxy Tab 3, this forum is for the Galaxy Tab S3.
You should head over to the Galaxy Tab 3 forum.

Might just have to buy a new tablet.
Was hoping I could experiment/test with this tablet I currently have
I m not familiar with your device, but steps are always the same: 1. Flash recovery with Odin (TWRP for example) 2. Copy Rom and Gapps to your device's SD 3. Boot to recovery 4. Follow ROM installation instructions. Happy Flashing, don't forget to enable USB debugging. Cheers A

Hey!
So I do not need to root my tablet? Many people say you have to? Maybe its best I do that?
Also, many different tutorials show different orders of installing and using different methods?
And, can I just do everything on my tablet or do I have to use my PC?
Do I need to install any apps or just to to certain websites on the tablet and install things?
Any specific links and order of doing them would help a bunch!
P.S What do you mean by "copy Gaps"? Do you mean apps?

Like I said I am not familiar with your device so I can't give you such a specific advice. You have to find out by yourself. Read threads, completely. Follow things being discussed already and find solutions for problems that's been already solved. This is what I do
