Hello,
I have an international version D855 with 32gb/3gb ram. I've updated to Lollipop and phone is UNROOTED.
The phone is working great as long as I don't play games. They have severe lag and can get to 1-5fps. This happens in almost if not all games I've tried.
Tested games that have this (for example, I've tried countless others):
Grand Prix Story - general low fps
Star Command - slow on conversations and when aliens invade the ship.
I did try the Thermal settings in the hidden menu as well as reducing the animations in developer options. Still can't find a solution to this anywhere. I haven't even seen anyone with similar issues.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ben.
The G3 has a QHD screen, but it's processor does NOT have enough power to make everything smooth, thus it has to work very hard and increases it's clock speed resulting in high temperatures. That's where the LG coding kicks in, the clock speed is reduced as is performance. Either this is your problem, or you have received a G3 that has faulty hardware (just like my previous G3) I'd suggest handing it in at your local dealer and let them decide. They sent mine to LG and I got a decent phone in return until LG confirmed that the hardware was faulty, they however did not specify what was wrong. I now am the owner of a fully functional G3 ^^.

The title is a bit misleading: I'm getting the phone for my brother. I placed an order today cos he's avid on getting the find 7. However, since he probably won't root it I feel that Lg G 3 would be the better choice. I mean he only knows about the Find 7 because of me.
He really likes to play games with high spec requirements (modern combat etc.) and wants to get the best specs for that reason. He would only be able to get the 16gb version of G3 with less ram and he'd need to get the phone on a contract for it to be in his price range. The contract isn't really an issue, though.
I'd personally get the G3 just because it's a lot better size, but he really seems to want that 3gb of ram and it's his money... How much memory does the 16gb version have reserved for apps btw? Does it have unified storage?
I'll probably cancel the Find 7 order tomorrow just cause I know he probably won't root it and it's a lot easier to get the G3 then to order FInd 7.
I hope you guys can give some insight to this phone and how it has been for you. And even give straight up advice my brother.
PS I know these threads are annoying, but he's been saving up long time for the phone and I don't want him to make a mistake.
Edit: Meant to post this on the Q&A section!!!
well..for my side...i would go for LG G3..i trust LG...so choose LG G3 if you have some spare extra cash..otherwise...go oppo...still LG G3 for me is the best choice.. especially you would install the xcam mod...WOW..simply wow!!!

Xcam mod? Thought That was just for g2?
Well having worked at Oppo, (although we only carry the 7a here) and choosing to go for the G3 afterwards, I can say that the main feature you want from the Find 7 would be the VOOC super fast charging. It charges from 0-full in roughly an hour while the G3 has to charge for like 2 1/2 hours or so.
Other than that, I feel that the aesthetics and size definitely go to the G3 as well as the camera. Its a toss up between the screen and sound quality.
Another thing is that the Find 7's colorOS firmware only comes with Jellybean while the G3 already comes with Kitkat.
What's really great about colorOS are the screen off gestures which you can assign to launch apps, the camera, play music and adjust the volume without even opening your phone as well as the gesture panel which you can assign to do the same as well while you're using the phone
I wish the G3 had those features too sometimes but it has alot of strong points with its stock firmware too
IMO G3 is not good for high end games.. i get a lot force close when playing heavy games that run smoothly on my previous nexus 5..
i dont know about find 7.. but for now G3 software is bad.. i hope xda developer can unlock the bootloader and make a good custom ROM.. so i dont waste my money on this bautiful phone..
What "heavy games" are force closing? I've had the G3 for several weeks and have yet to see one force close.

There should be an app that allows you to change volume while device is sleeping tbh. Or? Sounds possible to me, but maybe not.

The G3 is underpowered for a QHD. You'll notice it in games and intensive CPU/GPU applications.

Good news/bad news. The good? The game ran flawlessly on my G3 without any force close, though it's not my cup of tea. Bad? You may have some other issue with your phone. Possibly something you've installed is interacting with the game(s)? Are you using ART, it's still beta and can have issues with some apps? I didn't have any issues running it, but switched back to Dalvik after rooting because xposed doesn't play with ART. There are differences in our G3's , I have 3gb/32gb and we have different radio frequencies but that shouldn't make a difference here. In my experience, custom roms/kernels add function, speed and battery life but more often than not at the cost of stability. Waiting for a custom rom to fix your stability issue might not be the best strategy. Good luck squashing your bug!!!

On line reviews have shown that frame rate can be affected slightly with some games, but I've yet to use an app or game where this was noticeable in real world use and most of those same on line reviews have stated the same. Every game I've played has run fine and looked good...every one! QHD may have an impact, but "underpowered" is a bit of a stretch.

I was a bit "over the top" with "underpowered". I would say the 801 is at its upper limits in rendering all the pixels. The screen is also using a lot of power and creating more heat which is causing throttling which in turn is causing performance issues(see Samsung's new QHD display tech which uses less power). The 2/16gb model which we have in the UK is pretty horrible to use, a lot of redraws, lag and stutter.
I got the 16/2 model. I find it's good. Greenified most apps. Always have about 500mb-800mb free ram. Using apex, kept in memory no redraws. Running 10j, ART. I like the phone

This is true. If you crank the graphics in BF it does indeed crash out. A lot. Nexus 7 does it too though not quite as much as it's lower res than we are but higher than 1080 on the same platform so it struggles with the maxed effects/drops.

yup.working like a charm.though it will FC your original LG CAM APP..
only installed the apk without the binaries
I originally bought a Nexus 4 when they were first released and I also have a Note 2 provided by work. I don't get on with Touchwiz on the Note 2 but the black and colors overall seem superior on the Note 2 verses the Nexus 4. My device is mainly used for web browsing, Sky News, Pulse News, Tapatalk, YouTube, XBMC, Facebook, Twitter, and Banking.
Whilst the Nexus 4 still performs well, and has been looked after, it's starting to show it's age a little in terms of performance and the recent Google updates seem to have ruined the battery. And I like the screen size of the Note 2. Taking that into consideration I came across the G3 and now it's 'upgrade' time, I've just got a One M8 which I'm selling to fund my G3.
I like the idea of the 2k display which I appreciate isn't fully supported at the moment but hopefully will be in the future. I've only just moved onto a 4G tariff with EE and whilst 4G iasn't massively important to me, having a device that's futureproof 'is'. I know that the 855 will work fine across the RR 4G spectrum, and whilst the LTE-A trial is only in London at the moment, I'm semi tempted by the LTE-A support that the F460 has so that I don't need to change handsets again once this is rolled out in the UK.
However, in the last few days I've come across the F460 / Cat 6 and taking onboard the upgrade to the Snapdragon 805, Adreno 440 and LTE-A, I'm starting to wonder if I should be buying of these devices instead.
I've read plenty about both devices and whilst the hardware differences between the two are only slight, I'm getting the impression that the F460 spec is what the G3 should have been released with originally so that it handles the display better, and provides better FPS when gaming.
I'm sure the FPS and overall performance could be improved by removing the rooting and removing the bloatware, but unfortunately I can't root as my Barclays banking app won't run on a rooted device - and currently there isn't a way around this. I'd love to have rooted my Nexus 4 as all my Android devices going back to the G1 were rooted, but when I started banking with Barclays I couldn't root any longer.
I appreciate that it's early days yet for both the 855 and the 460, and there will be tons of software improvements and enhancements to both in the future, I'm just interested to hear from people that have had both and whether they would recommend spending the extra ££. Particularly as I'm going to be into my next handset for the longhaul, gone are the days when I buy a new handset every 6 months.
Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated
I have a D850, F460S and I had a F400S. The F460S is faster than the other two but during normal use you don't really see it as much. I notice the better performance when I play games on my F460S over the SD801/Adreno 330. You made a mistake the SD805 has the Adreno 420 GPU not the 440. My benchmarks are lower on antutu than my other two G3's. I think this is because antutu isn't optimized for the SD805.
For your banking app did you ever try Root Cloaker which can hide root status from any app. It work for ISIS wallet on my ATT D850. I really enjoy my F460 once I removed all of the SKT installed apps and put Nova launcher on it the phone seemed better. I don't like bloatware so I always uninstall all of it upfront.
This from a novice but the search will help. Will Xposed RootCloak solve your banking issue? Regardless interested in any experience on the F460 and best to jump from D850 or wait for the G4 (hopefully bootloader unlocked) next year.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for my mistake regarding the GPU, I've been reading about this rather a lot the last few days and I think I got my numbers muddled up!
Did you notice your FPS go up on the D850 once you'd removed the bloatware? My reason for asking is that if you have a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyIeupge_w4 - the G3 [presumably 850 / 855] doesn't seem to do as well as the others and has issues with lag. One of the reasons that makes me think going for the F460 might be better.
I've never tried Root Cloaker but I did see it mentioned somewhere today and I did some reading. The dev does comment on the Barclays banking app but it sounds like the app can still detect that the device is rooted, therefore the dev has marked it as 'TBD'. Thanks for the suggestion though :good:

Go for the F460, s805 is quite better than s801, with both FWs optimized it will be noticeable, and if you are not going to change it soon, it will worth the extra money.

The FPS can go up slightly if you go into the hidden menu and you enable dynamic refresh at 60FPS. The CPU still gets hotter on my D850 than it does on my F460. The SD801 does a good job at handling the 2K screen, but the SD805 just does it better with the Adreno 420 GPU.
I'm thinking of buying a 32gb G3 but I really don't like slowdowns, lag, stutter or whatever. What is your experience with the G3 updated to Lollipop ? The same laggy experience ? Speaking about frame rate in heavy graphics games, opening/closing/switching apps, scrolling things, in fact the general 'responsiveness' ?
What about a rooted G3, with Cyangonmod. Any difference in performance ?
Or should I better look at the G2(rooted to kill bloatware) / S5 / Xperia Z2 / Oneplus one ?
I wouldn't say it's laggy but no matter what rom i use wether cyanogen or stock it's still not as fast as my friends stock one plus one
With cyanogenmod based roms the g3 is amazing. Not lag
plz update to last version 20i not lag
The stock LG firmware is prone to slight lag and animation stuttering, though it opens, closes and runs tasks quite well. It appears to improve as LG roll the updates, and there is a promise of a fresh new UI coming with the G4, but it's still not good enough for a flagship phone.
Now, the moment you run CM12, RR or any other AOSP based rom the phone performs as it's supposed to. Animations are perfectly fluid, everything just flies. It literally feels like a hardware upgrade.
The phone is really great, I wouldn't consider any other 5.5 screen (or up) because of the size of the devices. LG made something special here, though It's a bit sad that they haven't figured out the software side of things just yet, but we have hopes things are going for the better.

I can't say about the laser focus because last I heard someone confirmed it's working. There is loss in quality for low light photos, but bright photos are as good as stock. Also there is no 4K recording yet.
Camera was never my thing though, so I didn't give it a proper test run.
Thanks for the answers. I'll have to choose between the S5 and the G3. The Xperia Z2 and OPO were also options, but these are just too big. And most likely the OP2 will be bigger. Let's see which of them gets cheaper quicker...
Hello,
Hi,
I'm think about getting the LG2 D802. But it's getting older, and some people mentioned that for the price gap I should go instead for G3. This is what I'm basically looking for :
- I'm not looking for something super new and expensive. As I use the phone for calls, reading eBooks while on the bus and sometimes playing a casual game.
- My previous device was HTC One X which had excellent screen with great colors. This is somehow spoiled me, and when screen quality is poor - I can see it easily.
- Comes good out of the box - I used to play around with Android devices - Root them, Install custom ROM. But I don't have too much time for this those days. I heard the G2 have a decent stock rom, I'm guessing the G3 is the same?
Older thread showing G2 to be a slightly better option over the G3 due to battery issues, phone getting overhead and turning brightness off, and some benchmarks that tagged G2 as the faster option (even though it's older). Are those things that were addressed today and no longer an issue? or should I be getting the G2 if I can?
Thanks!

Settings/Developer Options/ tick on "Force GPU Rendering" & "OpenGL Skia" should make the beast smoother. In Battery / Power Saving Exclusions / tick all 'ON". Don't know why LG had included the unnecessary battery feature. What we want is a damn smooth UI which uses the powerful SD 845's processing power! If LG had listened to it's customers, we could have enjoyed unlocked bootloader, an custom kernel would enable us to change the CPU Governors, whereas LG's stock is crap, which could be resulting in "dropped frames" in the UI In the future, If LG do not optimize their flagships matching the excellent hardware. Now it's time to say hello to gaming phones which have an amazing 240Hz touch sampling rate & world's 1st 120Hz AMOLED display!. Once my beloved LG G7 gets old & dying, in 2 or 3 years, I hope LG would have these better features to have an enjoyable smooth software experience ,where as I have zero complaints about the UI because I like the way LG UX appears close to stock Android. All the best LG, I hope I stay with LG forever!
