The title is a bit misleading: I'm getting the phone for my brother. I placed an order today cos he's avid on getting the find 7. However, since he probably won't root it I feel that Lg G 3 would be the better choice. I mean he only knows about the Find 7 because of me.
He really likes to play games with high spec requirements (modern combat etc.) and wants to get the best specs for that reason. He would only be able to get the 16gb version of G3 with less ram and he'd need to get the phone on a contract for it to be in his price range. The contract isn't really an issue, though.
I'd personally get the G3 just because it's a lot better size, but he really seems to want that 3gb of ram and it's his money... How much memory does the 16gb version have reserved for apps btw? Does it have unified storage?
I'll probably cancel the Find 7 order tomorrow just cause I know he probably won't root it and it's a lot easier to get the G3 then to order FInd 7.
I hope you guys can give some insight to this phone and how it has been for you. And even give straight up advice my brother.
PS I know these threads are annoying, but he's been saving up long time for the phone and I don't want him to make a mistake.
Edit: Meant to post this on the Q&A section!!!
well..for my side...i would go for LG G3..i trust LG...so choose LG G3 if you have some spare extra cash..otherwise...go oppo...still LG G3 for me is the best choice.. especially you would install the xcam mod...WOW..simply wow!!!

Xcam mod? Thought That was just for g2?
Well having worked at Oppo, (although we only carry the 7a here) and choosing to go for the G3 afterwards, I can say that the main feature you want from the Find 7 would be the VOOC super fast charging. It charges from 0-full in roughly an hour while the G3 has to charge for like 2 1/2 hours or so.
Other than that, I feel that the aesthetics and size definitely go to the G3 as well as the camera. Its a toss up between the screen and sound quality.
Another thing is that the Find 7's colorOS firmware only comes with Jellybean while the G3 already comes with Kitkat.
What's really great about colorOS are the screen off gestures which you can assign to launch apps, the camera, play music and adjust the volume without even opening your phone as well as the gesture panel which you can assign to do the same as well while you're using the phone
I wish the G3 had those features too sometimes but it has alot of strong points with its stock firmware too
IMO G3 is not good for high end games.. i get a lot force close when playing heavy games that run smoothly on my previous nexus 5..
i dont know about find 7.. but for now G3 software is bad.. i hope xda developer can unlock the bootloader and make a good custom ROM.. so i dont waste my money on this bautiful phone..
What "heavy games" are force closing? I've had the G3 for several weeks and have yet to see one force close.

There should be an app that allows you to change volume while device is sleeping tbh. Or? Sounds possible to me, but maybe not.

The G3 is underpowered for a QHD. You'll notice it in games and intensive CPU/GPU applications.

Good news/bad news. The good? The game ran flawlessly on my G3 without any force close, though it's not my cup of tea. Bad? You may have some other issue with your phone. Possibly something you've installed is interacting with the game(s)? Are you using ART, it's still beta and can have issues with some apps? I didn't have any issues running it, but switched back to Dalvik after rooting because xposed doesn't play with ART. There are differences in our G3's , I have 3gb/32gb and we have different radio frequencies but that shouldn't make a difference here. In my experience, custom roms/kernels add function, speed and battery life but more often than not at the cost of stability. Waiting for a custom rom to fix your stability issue might not be the best strategy. Good luck squashing your bug!!!

On line reviews have shown that frame rate can be affected slightly with some games, but I've yet to use an app or game where this was noticeable in real world use and most of those same on line reviews have stated the same. Every game I've played has run fine and looked good...every one! QHD may have an impact, but "underpowered" is a bit of a stretch.

I was a bit "over the top" with "underpowered". I would say the 801 is at its upper limits in rendering all the pixels. The screen is also using a lot of power and creating more heat which is causing throttling which in turn is causing performance issues(see Samsung's new QHD display tech which uses less power). The 2/16gb model which we have in the UK is pretty horrible to use, a lot of redraws, lag and stutter.
I got the 16/2 model. I find it's good. Greenified most apps. Always have about 500mb-800mb free ram. Using apex, kept in memory no redraws. Running 10j, ART. I like the phone

This is true. If you crank the graphics in BF it does indeed crash out. A lot. Nexus 7 does it too though not quite as much as it's lower res than we are but higher than 1080 on the same platform so it struggles with the maxed effects/drops.

I have one reserved to pick up in my local store now but not sure if its worth it when I got a Galaxy S2 and a iPhone 4S.
The screen is what interests me mostly but no idea how better that is compared to the two phones I have and heard about hardly any apps work on ICS yet e.g Facebook and so on.
Anyone who owns one would you say its worth it or stick to the two phones I have?

I cant talk for anyone else but myself in this regard. I have had my GN for about 24 hours now and have to say its the most amazing phone I have ever owned. Colours are rich and vibrant. Camera is fast as hell and yet still manages to focus. 5MP is more than enough for a camera, if I want to take professional shots then I will take my 16MP DSLR out but the majority of shots taken with phones are for social networking sites which resizes and compresses the image anyway so it doesnt matter. Speed is smooth as running a hot knife through butter and pretty much every program that I had running on Gingerbread works on this phone. The Tegra2 optimised games obviously wont work (apart from Guerilla Bob which works great) but I think I have installed about 60 apps and games since yesterday and only 3 or 4 havent worked. Facebook and Skype both work on my phone, even video calling works .
The main problems so far are satnavs (closes or stays black) and video players. I will try a few more satnavs and report back. Video players either stop running or wont install but that will soon be sorted so I have no worrys there.
I havent noticed any of the software problems that people are reporting but with a Nexus you HAVE TO REMEMBER that it is the first phone to have the latest software and its inevitable that there will be a few bugs to start with. Thats what updates are for and they will be ironed out soon enough. Developers will quickly update there apps for compatability with ICS and new apps will be made to enhance this beautiful screen.
If you have any more questions please ask away but I would definitely recommend getting it
Mark.

Well as I have only had the phone a day I cant comment about battery life at all as its been on charge pretty much the whole time. I like to give new phones a good days charge to make sure its maximum benefit from the first charge. Will know more about that after about a week when it starts to settle down into normal life.
The screen IS simply amazing. Its beautifully sharp especially when playing back 720p movies and its got the same coating on as the iphone to resist finger prints so it doesnt get that dirty look as quickly as other phones.

The screens awesome, much better than the retina display IMO as its bigger with equivalent resolution and much better blacks because of the SAMOLED. Having to post on my sister-in-laws iPad as my nephews playing shadowrun on it and I can't get him off it.

Firstly amazing, the screen is mind blowing playing HD videos for a phone. Secondly ICS is miles ahead of Gingerbread. Can't speak highly enough of it experience wise so far.

Hi-
So I've been looking at getting an Android device, as I'd finally like to leave apple. I have considered the Samsung S4 and Xperia Z, but they don't suit (too expensive, or too big).
However, I recently saw this device on sale (in Australia - $388), and the spec's have impressed me a lot. It's the international version (32GB, 13MP camera).
My priorities are:
1. Use as an eReader
2. Decent Battery
3. Run remote desktop apps (VNC/LogMeIn)
4. Play games (mainly SNES/n64 emulators)
I've noticed the development scene for this phone is not big. What does this mean for me? Just less roms available?
I'm also concerned as I've read the camera isn't great... Is that right? Have any of the new roms fixed it?
Also- will multiview be possible? I know it isn't on stock- but can any ROM's do it?
Cheers
1-4, yes yes yes yes.
Custom roms are working great,no issues.we have quality over quantity.
Multi view is not for g,but for g pro.don't know if a value pack with goodies from g pro will be released for g.i hope it will.
Camera is decent, don't expect miracles in low light conditions.but on normal light conditions,it's just great.
no phone can replace a dedicated camera, remember that.

Some games wiping battery in one and half hours.
It's better than stock, at least for me,with a litle tweaking.
For moderate usage you will get 1 day easily.I'm a heavy gamer, though, got 5 hrs of real racing 3 .this is great for me.
No complains here.
Moderate usage for me is this :
20-30 minutes talk
Texts
3 hrs browsing(including youtube) on 3g/LTE
1.5hr or so of gaming like you said(not fancy 3d games)
Music in the background
Battery lasts from morning till dawn without any problems
Seriously 5 hours? That's unreal :-O
i will post screens when i will let the phone settle for a while, easter it's coming here and i will be off for 3 days
It's very important what apps/services are running in the background and the network signal.I use greenify to be sure nothing i don't want is not running in the background

From 4.1 and above, LG's stock ROMs have their own implementation of Xperia small apps. Technically IT IS multiwindow, but only for like calculator, web browser, etc. haha. Still, better than nothing! Goodluck in making your choice

I think I saw this- quickview or something. It seems ok, but not exactly what I need.
I was sold on it, after everything you all told me, but then when I went to get the device- I just found it too square/large. It's similar to the Xperia Z in size, and the squareness makes it quite bulgy in my jeans. So I'm affaid on size alone- it's no longer an option for me
after spending a while with the G, i´d avise you to go with a mainstream device....
yea the G looks nice, but the camera sucks, battery sucks and with mainstream stuff you get faster updates, more community support and so on
Yeah right,a premium device sucks more than a mainstream. do you realise what you are saying?it's like ,man,go for renault, not mercedes.
Again, why would i need updates if the original software has no issues?just for the sake to say, hey,i have the latest firmware.no visible improvements, but, what the heck,i have the latest.
To be honest, gesture ui from lg is the smoothiest experience compared to similar devices from major competitors(s3,onex).heck,compared with a nexus 4,which is the "pure" android experience, there is no difference.an i compared some flagships, not medium devices.if you advice someone to go for mainstream,it means you never had such devices.in order to trully enjoy android experience, you need at least dual core,1gb ram, decent gpu and at qhd or more display.
Tell me what mainstream device meets all these requirements.

Camera solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065799
I will admit, camera is not as good as other devices, but that tweak offered by Epic_ actually helps greatly with clarity/quality.
Battery:
Root and unlock your phone using universal root / manual + FreeGee.
Install Titanium Backup - remove the bloatware (LG MLT in particular)
Install Greenify - greenify your apps
Disable Fast Dormancy..
Battery life is insane after doing all this. Phone deep sleeps properly.. 2 hours screen time so far, wifi always on / 3g + data on and I'm on 75%, which is on par if not beats the other "mainstream devices" - (SGS3, One X..)
The build quality of this phone is also amazing - observe this drop test of the phone.. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj_F_qc5cds
I actually don't mind that there isn't a lot of ROM development for this phone.. I actually really like LG's stock offering. QSlide is actually quite useful.
And this is coming from me who came from a Nexus S lol

Get it with the contract then immediately cancel it. At least that's what I'm hoping to do.
I originally bought a Nexus 4 when they were first released and I also have a Note 2 provided by work. I don't get on with Touchwiz on the Note 2 but the black and colors overall seem superior on the Note 2 verses the Nexus 4. My device is mainly used for web browsing, Sky News, Pulse News, Tapatalk, YouTube, XBMC, Facebook, Twitter, and Banking.
Whilst the Nexus 4 still performs well, and has been looked after, it's starting to show it's age a little in terms of performance and the recent Google updates seem to have ruined the battery. And I like the screen size of the Note 2. Taking that into consideration I came across the G3 and now it's 'upgrade' time, I've just got a One M8 which I'm selling to fund my G3.
I like the idea of the 2k display which I appreciate isn't fully supported at the moment but hopefully will be in the future. I've only just moved onto a 4G tariff with EE and whilst 4G iasn't massively important to me, having a device that's futureproof 'is'. I know that the 855 will work fine across the RR 4G spectrum, and whilst the LTE-A trial is only in London at the moment, I'm semi tempted by the LTE-A support that the F460 has so that I don't need to change handsets again once this is rolled out in the UK.
However, in the last few days I've come across the F460 / Cat 6 and taking onboard the upgrade to the Snapdragon 805, Adreno 440 and LTE-A, I'm starting to wonder if I should be buying of these devices instead.
I've read plenty about both devices and whilst the hardware differences between the two are only slight, I'm getting the impression that the F460 spec is what the G3 should have been released with originally so that it handles the display better, and provides better FPS when gaming.
I'm sure the FPS and overall performance could be improved by removing the rooting and removing the bloatware, but unfortunately I can't root as my Barclays banking app won't run on a rooted device - and currently there isn't a way around this. I'd love to have rooted my Nexus 4 as all my Android devices going back to the G1 were rooted, but when I started banking with Barclays I couldn't root any longer.
I appreciate that it's early days yet for both the 855 and the 460, and there will be tons of software improvements and enhancements to both in the future, I'm just interested to hear from people that have had both and whether they would recommend spending the extra ££. Particularly as I'm going to be into my next handset for the longhaul, gone are the days when I buy a new handset every 6 months.
Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated
I have a D850, F460S and I had a F400S. The F460S is faster than the other two but during normal use you don't really see it as much. I notice the better performance when I play games on my F460S over the SD801/Adreno 330. You made a mistake the SD805 has the Adreno 420 GPU not the 440. My benchmarks are lower on antutu than my other two G3's. I think this is because antutu isn't optimized for the SD805.
For your banking app did you ever try Root Cloaker which can hide root status from any app. It work for ISIS wallet on my ATT D850. I really enjoy my F460 once I removed all of the SKT installed apps and put Nova launcher on it the phone seemed better. I don't like bloatware so I always uninstall all of it upfront.
This from a novice but the search will help. Will Xposed RootCloak solve your banking issue? Regardless interested in any experience on the F460 and best to jump from D850 or wait for the G4 (hopefully bootloader unlocked) next year.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for my mistake regarding the GPU, I've been reading about this rather a lot the last few days and I think I got my numbers muddled up!
Did you notice your FPS go up on the D850 once you'd removed the bloatware? My reason for asking is that if you have a look at this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyIeupge_w4 - the G3 [presumably 850 / 855] doesn't seem to do as well as the others and has issues with lag. One of the reasons that makes me think going for the F460 might be better.
I've never tried Root Cloaker but I did see it mentioned somewhere today and I did some reading. The dev does comment on the Barclays banking app but it sounds like the app can still detect that the device is rooted, therefore the dev has marked it as 'TBD'. Thanks for the suggestion though :good:

Go for the F460, s805 is quite better than s801, with both FWs optimized it will be noticeable, and if you are not going to change it soon, it will worth the extra money.

The FPS can go up slightly if you go into the hidden menu and you enable dynamic refresh at 60FPS. The CPU still gets hotter on my D850 than it does on my F460. The SD801 does a good job at handling the 2K screen, but the SD805 just does it better with the Adreno 420 GPU.
Hey, could anyone do me a favour.
I'm looking to get this tablet as a present for my girlfriend.
But an important criteria is a favourite game of hers doesn't lag.
Could anyone check for me if this game lags on the tablet?
Check out "Bonbon Cakery" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...hi_en[/url
Your help is much appreciated! =D

Hi! Which variant of the LG G Pad 8.3 do you think you'd be buying? The reason I ask is because there's at least three or four variants. I have the Verizon VK810.4G, for example. There's also the V500 and V510 although I think the V510 you won't find any more since Google Play Editions of devices are not being sold any more.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm most probably getting the SD 600 one, wifi only.
Just wanted to hear the general performance of the SD 600 with the game.
Cause i'm using a N5 myself with no issues.

Sure, no problem. As far as I'm aware, all the variants have the SnapDragon 600, although the VK810.4G, which I have has it capped at 1.5 GHz instead of 1.7 GHz like I believe the other variants have. They might have all the same GPU so I'll try to remember to test this when I get home (leaving work momentarily) and let you know.
The game seems to work fine for me. No lag that I noticed.

Thanks!
Is the framerate relatively quick?
Cause it might seem not to lag, but it will affect the framerate relatively so.
As you are using a Nexus 5, whichever tablet you buy is going to be slower in comparison. (Unless you are will to pay much more $$$ and get something like the Nvidia shield or Nexus 9.)
If you are buying from a store, why not get them to install the game in question on there demo model so you can confirm the speed
Generally, I've been very happy with the speed of my v500. I'd say its a touch faster than my Nexus 7 2013 and could be faster still if debloated. :highfive:
There maybe also more performance in using ART runtime
I have the lagsung s5 now and so tired of all the lags. So does G4 lag?
Sure there is no lag !! Also ur lagsung change his way in s6 and it is lagfree too !

You going to get mixed results depending on who you ask... when I first bought the device (3 different one) a tmobile variant, it lag like crazy and had a bunch of touch screen issues... fast forward today I bought one from T Mobile with a manufacture date of 8/15 and it runs like a dream.... I'm not sure what the difference is but my current device run so good compared to the initial release devices I was dealing with earlier.

That sound like a production fault maybe?
I hear a lot of people in xda galaxy s5 forum that say S5 is smooth as butter all the time, but i had nothing but lag since day 1. Sometimes its relative lag free and some days its just better to leave the phone alone...
lag free for me
I had S5.. 2GB ram only lags tooo much

Ok. It seems that all android phones lag now... even my ipad air with ios 9.1 lags like ****t. Hehe
anyone used S6, M9 or N6P will notice huge lag in LG G4, so yes other phones way better!
The lag is from firmware version. With the last update is ok.
Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk
Also depends on carrier. Some put so much bloatware on they lag like crazy... Mine is unbranded Euro version and very smooth.
Ok thanks guys I will not buy this phone. Maybe go for the S6...
You have to define what a lag is for you. I have the G4 and for me it lags.
For example, in multi task when swiping an app to close it, the app-window kinda scotches a bit before vanishing.
Sometimes when I open the notifications center, It can also get stuck a millisecond.
So yes it has lags and stutters.
And BTW S6 lags too.
G4 is the king of multitasking everyone knows it !!
If use latest firmware with resset factory !! G4 is really great .try to buy unbranded phone !

I was on Xperia Z3 and I was thinking a lot with a lot of testings in real life.. I was going to buy S6 but I changed my mind
Xperia Z3 was a super lag free phone.. but this LG G4 is better
-LG G4 is better in everything compared to S6.. the both cameras are better, speakers, screen (for me the screen is better than the Amoled of S6) and the battery performance
S6 coins compared to G4 :
-You can get higher FPs in heavy games because it has faster CPU&GPU.. etc.. but for me G4 is very well performing in games
-The "sound" in capturing videos is better than G4
-Finger print ( I don't use lock screen security system So I don't care.. and Knock code is so cool feature If you know it )
Finally I want to tell you that I spent a lot of days comparing and thinking then I chose G4 and I'm so happy..it's up to you.. you need to set your priorities.. not only lagging or lagging free.. S6 and G4 both are lag free phones

I come from a Z3 too. Z3 was the most lagfree phone I ever had. Either my G4 is faulty or I don't know what, but it's laggy. Far away from Z3.
