Hey folks,
I have tried this with 2 GS 3's, and I have even tried multiple different versions of twrp just to make sure, and I still have the same issue. I flashed Clockwork Mod and twrp using Flashify and Odin, however when I actually go to make Nandroid back up, or flash anything, I get the "can't mount" messages from CWM and an empty folder from twrp. I have attached pictures to show the issue. As I said, I tried multiple methods, and multiple versions, on 2 separate devices, yet came to the same end. Does anyone know anything about this?
Really? No one? lol
ok , just throwing this out there... are you using latest twrp , what about the 'fix permissions' option , tried installing via fastboot from laptop (?). sorry dont have more. still newb-ish myself.
last screenshot says 'no OS' , you have no ROM on your phone(?).
also , are some knowledgeable folks on this thread...

If by fast boot you mean use Odin in my laptop, then Yessir I did. Both with clockwork mod and twrp. Everything downloads and installs fine. It's the actual functionality that is dysfunctional. It says I have no os, but I do have my stock Rom on there and it boots just fine. Thank you so much for actually responding, it means a lot. I'll look into the that and hopefully find some info

Do you have the i747m or i747? If you have the i747m, try re-flashing a completely stock ROM from sammobile.com.

I have the i747M. A completely stock rom? As in a Samsung stock rom? Would I go about doing it the same way as any other rom? Because my recoveries aren't working so I'm not able to do a Nandroid back up. As such I'd rather not do anything until I am able to do a Nandroid back up.
You're installing the latest recoveries for the d2lte, right?

d2lte? I don't understand, could you elaborate further?
The only recovery that works for the i747m is made for the d2lte. I think you maybe be flashing the wrong recovery.

All s3 phones sold in Canada are identical hardware-wise. It's only the carrier customizations that make them appear to be different.
You can flash a stock Rogers 4.4.2 over a stock Telus 4.4.2 with no problems. In fact, I have done it myself.
Prior to unified ROM and recovery builds for the s3, the AT&T s3 was referred to as the d2att while the Bell/Rogers/Telus s3 was referred to as the d2can. With unified builds, they are collectively referred to as d2lte. The only two things that are not interchangeable between the i747 and i747m are the modems and bootloaders.
Installing GS3 Rogers...but not really
Hello,
I tried to use the CM installer app/windows install which appeared to work but upon a first reboot a couple of questions pop up asking about if I want root and that the ROM might request a stock recovery. I answered these questions 7 ways to Sunday but it will not boot to CM. I can get in to the recovery screen but that is about it.
Something wrong?
thanks,
If you are stuck at the CM boot logo, try wiping cache, dalvik, and data in recovery?

Hi
I'm not stuck at the CM logo, in fact it just boots in to the stock Rogers environment. I can get in to the recovery menu but all I have is
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
I wiped the cache...no improvement.
I recommend you not use the CM install app as it can be hit and miss for some phones.
Before flashing anything, I recommend you verify the bootloader on your phone and post the version here.

Hello.
I have a GS3 SGH-I747M on rogers. The last one I was trying to get Cyanogenmod 10 on kept getting (Status 7) error. Nothing screwed up at all, until I attempted to unlock the boot loader with some stupid app that said it was safe wit my phone. I finally got a new one, found a solution to my issue (I have to use a different version of clockworkmod) and was wondering if it is safe to do. I mean no chance of risk if I follow instructions (no bricks, etc).
TL;DR: I have an SGH-i747M on rogers and want to out cyanogenmod 10 on with no chance of brick. Could you give me instructions on how to, or tell me if it is safe/unsafe?
Thanks a lot,
Edwin

I suggest that you take a look at these first before trying to root your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839
Second, I have Cyanogenmod 10 and I can say that it's playing safe so far - the only disadvantages that you would have are: Samsung's gestures are not functional and CM10 is kinda unstable for games and apps. I also experienced the Status 7 error and from experience, it's caused by using an 'old' version of CWM Recovery. Download the latest one from here (Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T): http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and download the Cyanogenmod 10 M2 from the CM site.
Assuming that you know how to setup the custom recovery for your phone, delete the current recovery.img on your phone and replace it with the new one that you downloaded. Then just do what you did to setup your custom recovery. I also suggest that you follow the ROM flashing guide on this page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_III:_Full_Update_Guide as it is what I followed to ensure that a brick wouldn't happen on my phone. Just a reminder, also wipe the Dalvik cache just to be sure.
TL;DR Flashing and rooting is safe as long as you're patient and you thoroughly follow guides on rooting/flashing your phone.

I don't really recommend that as that could cause unwanted trouble. From my experience, I just followed the rooting guide that I posted, flash a custom recovery, and flashed the Cyanogenmod 10. Another tip, if you don't want to lose your contacts, make a backup of it before flashing a ROM. Preferrably you write them in a paper so it would be easier. If you have important messages, use an SMS/MMS backup tool to save them. As for applications, make a list of applications that you consider are essential for you so you could just redownload them. Starting out in a custom ROM is really hard at first but you'll get used to it.
Its safety is directly proportional to your ability to follow directions.
Your first mistake was you used the app to unlock the VERIZON S3 bootloader.
All other versions of the GS 3 have unlocked bootloaders.
You should definitely do some more research before you attempt root and custom recovery.

Can you just use ROM Manager after rooting and flashing the stock ROM to download CWM, then CM10? And is the CM10 you're using on your Rogers phone compatible? I don't see a Rogers version on the CM site. Did you use the AT&T one?
Yes for the ROM manager, but the free version doesn't install latest touch recovery. The at&t version is compatible with all Canadian i747m. You can get the latest version here: http://get.cm/?device=d2att

What does touch recovery do? And do I have to use that link to flash it, or can I use ROM Manager? And if I were to use that link, I would DL the zip, boot my phone into download mode, plug in, open Odin, make sure auto reboot and F reset time are checked, load the .tar into the PDA, and click start? What happens to the previous ROM that was there?
And when I first root my phone, and load the stock rom, do all of my apps remain? I haven't rooted yet, for my Rogers phone.
A touch recovery lets you touch the screen as apposed to using the volume rocker.
You will keep all your data.

Thanks for the help! Another question, if I would like to unroot my phone, and decrease the flash counter, is there a thread I should see for the I747MVLLH1? I know about triangle away, but Rogers/my model isn't supported for that.
Triangle away does support Rogers gs3
Thanks! So should I flash CM10 through ROM Manager, or through the link that was posted? I'm not exactly clear on how to flash the ROM through the link though. Does flashing a new ROM erase the previous ROM? And 'wiping cache' doesn't wipe your data/apps right, only 'wipe Data and Cache'? And I don't really need to bother with kernels too right?
If you going from stock to cm10 wipe everything: cash, data, dalvik cash. Don't flash kernels unless you want to overclock and undervolt, cm10 comes with kernel and I get pretty good battery life with it. You can flash from ROM manager, and yes it will erase your previous ROM, so do a backup before flashing.

And when I flash it through ROM Manager, it would give me the option to wipe everything right?
The backup that I would do through ROM Manager, thats just incase anything goes wrong right? It's not to get back my apps once I flash from stock to CM10? Other than manually installing them after flash, is there any way to quickly get back my apps/files?
And does the CM10 flash from ROM Manager include the GAPPS file?
Yes it will ask you if you want to wipe, if you download cm10 ROM from ROM manager it will ask you if you want the latest gapps. You can get ROM toolbox or titanium backup to backup your apps and restore them after flashing rom. Backup is just in case but you can always flash stock ROM later if anything goes wrong.

How exactly would I flash through cwm recovery?
So I'm currently running Cyanogenmod version 10.2.0 .. Android 4.3.1.
I've updated to the newest version of TWRP.
I factory wipe, then try to install a different ROM.. for example I've tried PA & AOKP.
Every time I try this it fails within 1 second and I have to restore a backup and go back to Cyanogenmod.
EDIT: I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S3
I have attached an image of when I get an error when I try to flash.
UPDATE:
Alright so I was able to get past that error by going into advanced wipe and selecting "System". Now when I flash I get a new error. I am attaching a new picture.

Update your recovery. You're using TWRP 2.5.5.0 when the latest one is 2.6.3.1. If you can't boot into Android, Odin the TWRP recovery. Also, make sure you completely wipe your internal storage before flashing a custom ROM. If that custom ROM isn't working for you, try another one to see if that flashes since that would indicate that the custom ROM you're trying to flash could potentially be a bad download.
You also need to post more information about your phone.
Which custom ROM are you using?
Which kernel are you using or trying to use?
etc etc.

I've tried flashing multiple ROMS.. Slimbeam.. AOKP.. ParanoidAndroid.. I've downloaded from GOOManager and I've also downloaded from external links and put on my external SD card. Nothing works. Like I said in the OP I am running Cyanogenmod 10.2.. Android 4.3.1. I'm using the Ktweaker kernel.
I updated my TWRP from Goomanager and it only updated to 2.5.5.0. How do I get it to update to 2.6.3.1?
So I just went to update TWRP from goomanager again and when it went to download it failed because "invaid MD5 sum".
Edit: So I tried updating again and it said it was successful. I rebooted into recovery and it still says 2.5.0.0
I'm lost.
Same problem happened to me last night, I tried to install the modem again but the same error keep coming up.
To everyone with issues updating recovery. Goo has a openrecovery script issue. Your best bet is to flash latest Recovery using Odin. You may choose to use Mobile Odin if you feel like it.
Can't restore anything except Kitkat
I keep getting the same error, except I can't flash or restore any rom that isn't kitkat (all the kitkat roms are buggy so i want 4.3 back). I reflashed twrp 2.6.3.1 with odin but its still not letting me flash anything.
Also if it helps I can't copy anything from the internal SD to the external SD using twrp file manager.
Older Rom's backups can't be restored due to file system changes. You will have to wipe everything and flash fresh if you want 4.3
I tried the latest version of TWRP, and I'm on StockROM by TeamInferno. I got V7 and I saw an update on it last night (V8) so I downloaded it and tried to install it fom Clockworkmod recovery and it didn't work so I tried TWRP and the same thing happened. What is your TWRP Version ? Also what is your Bootloader version ? (No its not the baseband)
My bootloader is T999UVUEMJC
My baseband is uvuemjc
TWRP is version 2.6.3.1 (I've also tried 2.6.3.0)
I think it got updated bootloader/baseband when I odin flashed stock tw 4.3 (the only jellybean ROM that works)
I also made a backup of my 4.4, but it wouldn't let me restore even that.
You have been talking about 2 different things.
1. Flash a New Rom - Either Touchwiz or AOSP. $.3 or newer.
2. Restore a Rom - I think you are talking about a Nandroid Restore.
If you are referring to Point 1 as "Restore Rom" then you need to change terminology in order to help us understand your problem correctly. Re-Flashing a rom that you used to have is still Flashing not "Restore".
With that UVUEMJC Bootloader, you can completely forget about flashing previous Touchwiz Firmwares such as UVDMD5 or UVDLJC. If you tried them, you WILL brick your phone. If you tried Custom Touchwiz Roms based on those 2 firmwares, it may or may not work.
Now if you are trying to flash a AOSP Rom, either 4.3 or Kitkat 4.4, and you do have latest TWRP, (2.6.3.1), please specify the error message in detail.
You must do Factory Reset and Wipe Dalvik + Cache in the Recovery before flashing the AOSP Roms.
Hello everyone,
After a long fight to try and get this phone back to normal, everything seemed good,
except not really
I started on a buggy CM11 version. Sick of it, I downloaded a 4.4.4 stock rom. I had to disable firewall and defender, but I got Odin to flash my md5. I got through everything and it booted successfully. After signing in and all that jazz, I find out that my WiFi isn't working. After a few reboots, My 4G finally works and everything seems to be steady.
Then, after exploring the rest of the phone I find out that all my apps from last ROM are still there. I know that you are supposed to wipe before flashing, but I was told that Odin will take care of that. It obviously didn't.
After THAT, I try to boot into Recovery as the next sensible step is to try to wipe my data and cache. I turn the phone off and press (Vol up + Home + Pwr) and the first boot screen shows for a moment. It says in blue "RECOVERY BOOTING" in the corner. Right after, it disappears and in another second it does the same screen without the "RECOVERY BOOTING". And as presumed, it does a regular boot.
What did I miss? How can I wipe my phone from recovery? How can I fix my problem with Wifi?
Reflash in Odin.
Make sure you have the correct stock rom. If you flash the "md5" you may have flashed the wrong thing. The md5 is not tge firmware, that is just the code that verifies your firmware file is not corrupted.
If your old apps were still there, you flashed the wrong thing. There is no way to flash stock firmware in odin and not wipe the data partition.
You are correct then
Yeah, I flashed a tar.md5 in Odin. It gave me a new ROM but all my apps are there. After all that, I still can't go to recovery. I tried using the terminal and ROM Toolbox to go there, both didn't work. Can I just leave it as it is and find a way to recovery or is the only way to go to bootloader and flash a correct file to get to recovery?
Flash twrp and see if it will reboot into recovery, then factory reset and flash latest firmware with Odin right after. Odin will NOT wipe data. It has to be done manually

It depends on what you ate flashing.
If you are flashing a full stock factory image it will wipe user data. If you are just flashing a system partition it won't.

The first post of any customized stock rom will tell you if its deodexed. If it doesn't say it...its not.
@Essem G:
Any updates for us? I'm following this thread because I have similar problems with my WiFi not working after upgrading from 4.2.2.
Any luck getting TWRP flashed?
Also I believe that the stock firmwares do come as tar.md5's, as in the file: M919UVUFNK2_M919TMBFNK2_M919UVUFNK2_HOME.tar.md5 from ShinySide's stock firmware thread.
As for the WiFi issue, from the hours of reading I've done it looks like this problem occurs when you upgrade your firmware, but it no longer matches the bootloader. Such as bootloader (Baseband) showing MDL, but Build Number showing NH7, NK2, etc. What does your show?
This thread may be of use to you when you get back to a working ROM. Good luck!
@RavenMind1
Everyone has been saying different answers and i've put off fixing my device for a while. I'm just afraid i'll brick it forever and have another nightmare after this current one. So no, there has been no progress. I think i'm gonna try to flash Philz and format my system, then flash a deodexed rom. @g7755725 said that you can flash TWRP, but I usually use Philz. It appears to be that I have lost root access because no root features work and SuperSU won't recognize it. Will everything work or am I setting my self up for disaster?
Edit: Where can I find a deodexed rom? I desperately need one, thanks

If you're trying to go back to complete stock then just Odin NK2 firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508 I used the NK2 from here about 2 days ago to go back to stock.
For the past 3 days i've gone through hell and back with this phone.
To start off I rooted the phone, and that was working fine, my buddy was downloading something (idek what it is and I have no way to get ahold of him to ask him) and after that it busted. Then I somehow deleted my whole operating system.
Since then I have downloaded a 4.3 stock rom (os?) and I have successfully unbricked my phone. Now I have no service, and i'm 99% sure it's because all of my IMEI things are unknown. Now I figure that is an easy fix by downloading a modem?
Before I look into fixing my IMEI problems I would like to get back to 4.4.2 (Kit-Kat I think it was?)
I've downloaded countless ROMs, IMG files (converted to tar.md5), and many versions of Odin.
I've messed with Samsung Kies but I can just tell that this is a garbage program, and I have no clue what i'm doing.
What i'm asking here is help to getting me back to stock 4.4.2 (WITHOUT A ROOT) and possibly fix my IMEI problem and the problem I can't get 3g/mobile data working (snapchat/instagram did not work) (APN maybe?) (I haven't looked into these problems yet, could be super hard, could be fairly easy)
Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T SGH-i747 is the phone i'm currently working with.
The last thing I tried to do is flash with a boot.tar.md5 and system.tar.md5, it did NOT work, as I was not sure where to put those files at in odin. Boot = Bootloader and System = AP/PDA?
Sorry if I come off as a complete noob, this is literally last resort for me (I've been doing this for 3 days....) as I can probably suspect you guys are very tired of all of these help requests.
Thank you to everybody who reads this, and am looking forward to having a normal phone again.
Edit: First post here
Does the phone boot into download mode? Sounds like it does since you can use Odin.
To get the phone running, copy the latest cm11 or cm 12 to an sd card, copy cm11 Gapps or cm12 Gapps (download the version that matches the ROM you intend to flash), flash a custom recovery (I prefer CWM for the d2lte or Philz Touch for the d2lte), boot into recovery, do a full wipe, flash cm, flash Gapps, boot the phone.

sick thanks for the response homie.
i'm not exactly sure which CM to download, I went to the d2ltes since that's the closest thing to my device I found in that list.
I also went to cwm rom managers and downloaded the recovery setup, i'm guessing I convert that and flash it using odin and voila, I have cwm?
and for the cm11 gapps I went to this website and downloaded the zip file, going to just put that on my sd card with the CM (when I figure out which one to download)
am I headed in the right direction?
edit: okay I got cwm recovery on my phone... thats good
edit 2: alright downloading cm12 and alreayd have cmgapps in a zip ready to be put in my sd card. i'll let you know how installing it with cwm goes. thank you for your help man I really appreciate it.
edit 3: how would I go about installing it via owm? everytime I install from sd card it resets my phone, just go back into recovery and install the second zip? or is there a way I can install both at once?
Boot into cwm, wipe cache, wipe data, wipe dalvik, install cm1 from sd card, install gapps, reboot.
The i747 is also known as the d2lte so anything designed for the d2lte is good.

alright! couldn't thank you enough. like I said i'll keep you updated!
edit: i'm in the cwm recovery or w.e and there is a different keyboard as i'm doing this, does this transfer over to be my real keyboard after the cwm recovery stuff? if not, how do I get this keyboard?
edit 2: wow this is totally different, sick.. let me play around with it, i'm sure i'll have some questions.
alright, phone number is still not available, imei and imei sv is still not available, same with everything in the SIM status.
going to try and find a modem for my model.
no luck so far, if someone could help search for a MODEM for SGH-i747 AT&T s3 that would be great..
sorry for being so needy.. thanks for hanging in here and helping me out.
edit: I found this link but it's for 4.4.2... it says do not use it if you're on 4.3.... is it okay if i'm at like 5.1.1 cwm?
well, I cannot post the link and I do not want to find a way around to post the link incase a mod shuts this thread down. if you want the link you may PM me..
edit 2: okay so google play services does NOT work, and I need that in order to open skype.. so that's on another thing on the list of **** to fix. However I just downloaded an apk and I need to put it in system/apps but i'm not sure where to find that... i'll probably end up downloading it on the phone and dropping it in with a file manager.
edit 3: none of this worked, I still need google play services to get installed..
Does the phone boot to the desktop? Which rom did his try? Try the latest cm10.2 for the d2lte.
Are you able to install a terminal app or Samsung phone info app?
Try and find the apk version of the app and just install it from the file browser.

It tells me "It cannot be installed". I will find 10.2 for d2lte... assuming I find the corresponding GApps.
I also could have ran all of the other google apps... "google +, playstore, youtube, etc"
edit: I cannot find cm 10.2, lowest I can find for d2lte is 11. should I try that instead?
These are all the zips i'm installing with cwm when I wipe/reset my phone totally:
Calkulin's Google Play Service modded (so google play services works)
cm-11
gapps-kk-20140606
and I am currently messing with modem files to get my service back, i'm about to try my second one.. wish me luck!
edit: I can't get my baseband model to show, nor my imei numbers to come, they all stay unknown.. if someone would like to do some sort of 1 on 1 that would be awesome.
You could also try the cm for the d2att.

trying it now! should I use a specific gapps? maybe for 5.1.1? cause 12.1 uses 5.1.1 if i'm not mistaken.
There are separate gapps for cm10.2, cm11, and cm12.
It sounds to me like there is a problem with the modem and bootloader combination on the phone.
What specific bootloader version is on the phone?

so after I download cm12.1 and cm12gapps, I should look further into the bootloader/modem problem?
i've tried a few modems for i747 and i've had no luck so far unfortunately, if someone else reading this has had experience or knows someone who has experiences null baseband / imei numbers let me know!
edit: oops, my mistake.. just saw the last part of your post now. i'm not sure how to find out my bootloader.
Use the terminal app and type getprop ro.bootloader.

Alright I've now figured out that I do NOT have ANY efs files for samsung galaxy I747UCUFNJ1.
I have the imei number from the back of my phone.
I tried the EFS pro method and when I click "backup" an error pops up and says "Block device does NOT exist"
I'm so confused and I need help lol
wow, I fixed it! I installed the correct modem corresponding to my baseband / bootloader something like that.. wow. most stressful 4 days of my life
ty so much
Glad you got it working. This is why I kept asking about the modem and suggesting that the modem doesn't match the bootloader.
I am returning my phone to my dad because i'm getting an upgrade and he wants to sell it, so i tried to revert to stock from CM12.1 unofficial nightlies. I flashed the FNJ1 system and boot.img. my phone was on FNJ1. now it's stuck on the at&t logo and i cant do anyhting, any help?
AT&T SGH-I747 UCUFNJ1 CM12.1 unofficial nightly.
Edit: In the mean time i've reverted to cm12 but i still need to revert to stock so any help is greatly appreciated.
You have to factory reset after flashing back to stock. If you are going to sell it, I suggest doing so from stock recovery.

I reflashed the FNJ1 rom and then factory reset afterwards and it still hangs at the AT&T boot logo, any other suggestions?
Where did the rom come from exactly? There are a few that I've seen. Did you check the md5 to make sure the download wasn't corrupted?
Can you verify your bootloader / baseband?
Using terminal emulator (twrp has one built in) enter this.
getprop ro.bootloader
getprop ro.baseband
Let us know what it says.

i used Enewman's fnj1 system and boot.img from the general forum here. and i cant boot into recovery only download mode, but i know for sure it was ucufnj1
also the other post is me:
We will need more detailed info if you don't mind.
What were you on before? cm 12.1
What "stock rom" and what recovery exactly did you flash. enewman's fnj1
How did you flash? cwm
You said it "still doesn't boot" but we're able to flash it, do you mean it just won't boot android? yes
Can you boot download mode? yes
What was wrong that made you need to flash the rom and recovery to make it boot, and how did it get to that point to begin with? need to get to stock to sell, wouldnt boot, and the soft brick help said to try flashing stock recovery.
I managed to boot into recovery by flashing an older version of CWM via Odin. i flashed CM12.1 back again and it boots! thank god i have a phone again. any ideas as to what is causing the softbrick?
Hard to say. I do know that enewman17 recommends flashing with twrp, and that's what most people have used AFAIK. So there may be something about the newer cwm that executes the script a little differently. That's purely a guess though. Could've just been a bad flash for whatever reason.

Should I try flashing twrp and then flashing the stock rom?
if i'm not mistaken CWM has pretty much been abondoned and no longer updated.
twrp and philz are preferred.
then again , "couldve just been a bad flash for whatever reason".

You can try it if you like. Keep cm available just in case though. You might try some of the other stock builds too. Check the general and development section. I think there's about 3 NJ2 roms, each done a little differently.

i updated my bootloader and modem to nj2 then flashed the stock rom for nj2 (this time using TWRP) and had the same outcome, it just hangs on the AT&T logo. I think this phone is doomed to be a CM12.1 phone.
That's strange. Did you try a different one if the NJ2 stock roms as well?
Oh and did you check the md5 to make sure the download wasn't corrupted?

all md5s match and i tried enewman's deodexed fnj2 roms as well and it still hangs at AT&T Logo. maybe it's an issue of returning from Lollipop to KK?
Check the cm rom threads. Maybe someone else there has run into a similar problem. I don't use it myself, so I'm not familiar enough with it to say.
I'll try to do a little digging when I get home. There's got to be some sort of explanation!
(Have you ever tried reformatting /system to anything other than ext4? )

It is probably a matter of coming back from an AOSP/CyanogenMod Lollipop rom back to a stock KitKat rom. I have seen a number of reports of people having the same issue of getting stuck at the logo during boot.
I have seen two fixes being reported as working, both are going to make you work to set the phone up for use.
1) After flashing enewman17's NJ1/NJ2 rom, stay in recovery and flash the stock recovery. Reboot into recovery then do a factory reset from the stock recovery.
2) If the above didn't work, use Odin to reflash TWRP or Philz recovery. From the recovery format the internal sdcard. Have the NJ1/NJ2 rom stored on an external sdcard so that you can reflash it from recovery.
