Hello,
Purchased the Moto 360 from craiglist. (bad idea) but firmware will not update to 5.01 via OTA.
Build number is Metallica-userdebug 4.4WKGW18B.M194745 test-keys
I heard that this maybe in factory debug mode which will not update.
Is there way to update it besides custom ROM. (USB cable)?
With current firmware, Facer and Watchmaker does not work. (one of th emain reason that I purchase the Moto 360)
Any insights will be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks
Hi dude, i have the same ****... watch, can you solve?

this is the only way update from 4.4w
I can help you guys out. Just three days ago I bought my moto 360 at your SW version and had this EXACT issue. Here is how I fixed it.
First off, do yourself a favor and delete the lastest version of Android Wear on your phone. While you're at it, be sure to get rid of Moto Connect as well if you have installed it. Basically, what is happening, is android wear 4.4 doesn't seem to be compatible with the latest version of Android Wear for Phones, so as your phone is attempting to update your watch from 4.4 to 5.1.1, it throws this error.
Step two, disconnect your Moto 360 from your phone in the Android wear menu on your phone. Factory reset your Moto 360.
Step three, go to Here on your phone and download that APK to a location you can find it. This is an older version of android wear.
Step four, install this APK. Reboot your phone for good measure, and connect your Moto to your phone using the version of Android wear on your phone. MAKE SURE TO NOT ALLOW ANDROID WEAR ON YOUR PHONE TO UPDATE IN THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE.
Step Five, once everything is connected, on YOUR WATCH, go to settings --> about --> software updates. This step takes a LONG TIME, around 10-20 minutes, and your watch must be over 80% to complete this. When it finishes (the green circle wraps all the way around the X) it will ask if you want to upgrade. Tell it yes. When the watch finishes and reboot, FACTORY RESET IT AGAIN.
Step Six, With the watch reset, remove android wear from your phone, and do a fresh install on the play store. Now connect your phone to your watch. You should no longer have any issues. Your watch is now running Wear 5.1.1 and your phone is running the latest AW App. Go ahead, install Motorola connect and any other apps you want to have, and most importantly, ENJOY YOUR NEW WATCH!
To any mods out there watching, I'd recommend sticking this post or something. This is an error that is going to come up a LOT until google figures out why that happens. To my knowledge, this is the ONLY way to get a 4.4w2 Moto 360 running on the latest android wear release.
@dankaren thanks for your help, i alredy tried that tutorial but nothing, will try again tomorrow. Can be a possibility that the watch be a dummy or demostration one?

Hi,
I've bought a moto 360 today, everything is good a part that I cannot download any update.
From settings -> about -> software version says 4.4W.2 and if I try to tap on 'System updated' I see 'Downloading' but after 4 hours there still the same screen and no notification about a new software version. What do you think is preventing the watch to update? I didn't find anything on the android wear app/motorola app to force the update.
Thx

Might trigger the update. It's not like a phone, other than pairing it again, there's nothing to really set up.
after a reset now it says '4.4W.2' but If I tap on 'system updated' it says that the software is up to date...is that the latest version? I thought it was 5.0

Latest version is 5.0.2
When you tap on the Software version, what version of Android Wear and Google Play Services does it have?
Do you have the latest version of the Android Wear companion app installed on your phone? What phone do you have?

I solved pairing with a lollipop device instead of my sony xperia z3 compact...they have both the latest android wear app but apparently on the nexus 5 the watch went straight away downloading the update, on the sony no (I've tried to pair three times with the sony). Super weird..
Good you fixed it. Enjoy!

You have to be on a browser. Don't worry about it. It's great that you posted the solution.
The latest version of the Android Wear App makes my Moto 360 useless... I am getting a constant crash loop of gapps and play services.... Resetting from the settings menu does not work.... It keeps saying please wait....
Is there a way to manually reset the moto 360?
I have not had this problem, but I saw someone else post that they uninstalled the Android Wear App and then reinstalled it and that fixed the problem. I am not sure if they rebooted their phone in between uninstalling and reinstalling, but it couldn't hurt.
I was just able to update a couple hours ago and have not had any issues yet.
There was another update to the Android Wear app today. Are you using today's version or the one from yesterday?
same here
hi, I have the same issue-I've even tried to downgrade my version of wear and reset my watch but none work!
I fear an update from Google won't get pushed through to my watch.. is this a reasonable fear? wish I'd never installed it....
help!!!!!

I have managed to reset my watch. I just left it when selecting the reset from settings and after 20 minutes or so the watch rebooted and was wiped. Problem solved.
Got the same problem. Error just keep poping up. Tried to reset the device but it just gets going back to the watch face after 5-10 minutes.

Thanks folks - I am trying to update using the the 23rds update - (the second of the two). I'll try resetting it later and keep 'ok'ing the gapps error message.
Should I put the old version of android wear apk on my phone before I do it or will it take the new one?
I'll update my post later if it works - I hope it does!

Don't know about versions. My problem is that I can't even connect to the watch, it just says "Connecting" in Android Wear app. So basically my watch is pretty much useless right now. My only option is a hard reset and then hope for the best.

That seems to be what people are suggesting, but I tried it first thing and the reset failed. I will try again tonight when I have a bit more time!

I just managed to reset!
What I did was I first restarted the watch and then went directly to the "Reset Option" in the setting. After a couple of minutes the watch restarted and it was done.

I had the same issue ... the key for me was enabling ambient mode ( had it disabled) - seems to keep the reset process alive.

Thanks, I'll do it later.
Rubbish that google has put us in this situation!
hi,
just wanted to say thanks. it took persevere to get it reset but doing everything people suggested with lots of time on my hand fixed it.
thanks
To get past "connecting" click inside android wear to add a new watch. Then click motor 360 when that comes up. It connected after that.
My SW3 has Android Wear 4.4W.2 installed, build number KNX01F. I haven't found a way to get it to update. I've tried clearing the data on the Android Wear App on my phone, unpairing and factory resetting., as well as the Sony Companion program. I tried flashing an OTA via adb, but as soon as I got into recovery mode adb couldn't see the watch. Does anyone know any tricks to force the update?
Recently there was a bug in latest Android Wear companion which prevented your watch from successfully upgrading from 4.4 to 5.0.2. Check this thread for possible solution (downgrading companion helped me).

Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried downgrading the Android Wear app to the version suggested, but it still won't update. I'm going to try the same thing on a non-marshmallow device. Did you also have to downgrade Google Play Services, or just the Android Wear app?

GOT IT UPDATED! I decided to try the Sony Companion program once more time and lo and behold it worked! I have no idea why it didn't work the first few times I tried it. Oh well, thank you for your help.
Hi everyone !
First time posting on xda forums.
I bought on Friday a moto 360 1rst gen. I tryed to update it, but i have some errors messages.
Occasionally I got a notification that says "Can not download the update. The space is not sufficient to download the system update"
When I go into the settings to start the update manually, another message appears "insufficient space".
I rebooted several times the watch and uninstalled the application android wear (I also tested with an older version).
I tried this on my main phone (Note 4) and another (xperia z1 compact) but the notification and error message always appear.
When I put the watch in charge and remove it another message appears "Charge your watch to receive update MEC231". I put the watch in charge and I see the android wear application downloading something in the data options. When the watch is charged to 100% I remove it from the base to start the update but the same message appears that says charge your watch althought the watch is at 100%. I left the watch an afternoon and an evening on the base, when I removed it the message "insufficient space" appeared again in the update options.
I do not know what to do repair the problem. Could you help me please ?
OS version is 4.4.w.2, android wear 1..0.1.1526154 and google play services 8..4.89
Sorry for my english :silly:
Same things for me...
Moto 360 G1 with 2 days of life.
Same FW and Android Wear versions.
I've also tried to install an old version of Android Wear but no way to let him download the firmware.
I've also tried with an old Smartphone with 0 app (so it doesn't sync)...Same Thing
I've reset him contless times but no way.
Any suggestion is appreciated
Try updating by following this procedure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...1-1-update-t3139099/post63853874#post63853874
Hi thanks for replying =)
I already done this procedure on two different phones but doesn't work :/
But to besure, when it says "delete the lastest version of Android Wear on your phone", that means uninstal android wear from the phone ?

Yes, delete the latest Wear app on phone and install older one from apkmirror.
Ok thanks^^
But that's what i've done but doesn't work.
I think i should return the watch to see what's happening.
Thanks a lot for help :good:
Think I'm on the same boat.. I tried this procedure last night a couple times with different phones and didn't seem to get it to work just keep getting the same msgs and notification saying couldn't download update not enough space. Just brought the watch last week brand new..
I've also tried different things but the problem persist.
I've also tried with a smartphone with Android 5.1 and an old Android Wear Apps (June 2015 1.1.1.....) but nothing.
Reading this post https://plus.google.com/communities...9/stream/b5bc95e0-4396-4569-b121-d88ff15986fb seems that Motorola know the issue and in few days will resolve the problem.
Not so good for a Watch with 2 days of life...
So maybe the problem will get fixed? It's annoying... I dont think I even experienced all the watches features
I think so, we just have to wait a few days...
Okay thanks for information
Hope they will fix it.
I've unpaired and reset my watch. Repaired. Now it's going to download the update.
Inexplicable... Or maybe Motorola has worked hard...
Ok i'll try the same.
Edit : Yeah it's working !!!! thx Dimoz =)
Edit 2 : I talked too fast, now i have "[public] full ota to LCA44b" error message.
Do not feel bad. I have factory reset my watch 3 times, each time, the watch will download the new update. Be at 100% battery, yet still tell me either an error has occurred or charge watch before installing (again it is at 100%). At this point, I will wait
Mine is in its box while I contemplated to return it or not so when I get home I am going to give this another try
I charged it fully and went into settings and update. And it updated. It updated to android 5.1.1 is that the most up-to-date?
Same for me, finally get updated to 5.1.1
The latest version is 6.
I'm waiting for this update.
Mine has first update to 5.1.1.
Then i've reset the device. paired and already checked for update (always under charge) and it has found the 6.0.1 update.
Update and reset. Current version 6.0.1 build MEC23I
Now, actually, is an usable smartwatch!
I will give it a chance
Same it worked out. Im very surprised but they seem to have fixed the issue for sure.
Hi everyone.
I've just bought this smartwatch and I'm new about using it. So, I tried to install Android Wear 2.0. I go to settings>information>system updates and start to download the update. When it finishes (it takes a lifetime), the installation stops and I have to start again. It's always the same, I've reseted the device and still happens.
Does someone know what am I doing wrong?
I've bluetooth connected and paired, also wifi.
