My phone boots only into bootloader - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I'm having a really big problem because I need to use my phone today but i messed up something.
First i have s-on, installed twrp 2.8, and flashed arhd 34.0 everything worked fine but i had problems with my wifi because of the 4.4.4 firmware on my phone. So i wanted to flash the new firmware but because i was s-on i couldnt do it, so i locked my bootloader and tried again. Now my phone boots only in bootloader and i don't know what to do. Someone please help! :crying:

Before you do anything else, post the result of fastboot getvar all (delete serial no and IMEI no.)

Your first problem here is relocked bootloader. Do you still have custom recovery installed ? Have you try to restore your stock ROM ?
When you mentioned you tried to flash firmware, which firmware version no. ? You fastboot getvar all show you have firmware 3.28.401.9 installed.

I think i have custom recovery still, but i cant get into it, my phone just restarts again into bootloader
And i tried to install the .401 firmware

Here is another problem ... .401 firmware is not good enough. Need the full version no.
Try to unlock your bootloader with your previous unlock_code.bin
Someone here more or less same problem like yours manage to unlock the bootloader :http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/update-bootloader-page-t3015542
The try to flash again TWRP and do restore

There is a problem. I don't have the previous bin file because I bought it second hand. I tried although to unlock it in the htcdev site but it fails.

When on bootloader then press power once to hboot then select recovery, it goes back to bootloader ?
I don't have further idea as the bootloader is locked, except if you don't mind losing everything on your internal storage as this will make your device like a new device out from the box is to use the RUU zip. You need an external sdcard.
Download the RUU zip from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563
Or the lollipop one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58457494&postcount=375
rename the zip to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on external sdcard
boot to bootloader, press power once to hboot, it will ask you to install or not.

Yes, i get back to bootloader when i select recovery.
I don't mind to lose my data, just get my phone back working
So I'm gonna try this out. It should by itself popup to ask me to install? By external sd card i guess you mean a microsd which i have. Should that zip file be the only file there or can I put it in with other files?

Yes... it will pop-up when you select hboot then press power up to install.
external_sdcard is the microsd. No problem to put it with other files, correct naming is important and put in root of microsd not in folder

There is no problem to install RUU on S-On device. Just need to relock bootloader if it is unlocked.
You may have remove/freeze Setup Wizard or it's corrupted.
Restore your nandroid backup if you have any. If no, try restore a stock nandroid backup or RUU.
Without fastboot getvar all information, nothing much to help you
Post here fastboot getvar all result (minus serial & imei no.), someone may be able to help you

Firstly - remove that serial no & imei no from your post
You have 3 options :
1. Restore 4.16.401.10 TWRP backup and 4.16.401.10 stock recovery then do OTA update to 4.16.401.13
or
2. Relock your bootloader and install 4.16.401.10 RUU.exe - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56140330&postcount=1
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything)
or
3. Relock your bootloader and fastboot flash the 4.16.401.10 RUU.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235
(make backup of your internal storage important data as this will wipe everything and also note you need htc_fastboot instead of normal fastboot)
You can get the RUU.zip from link in option 2.
Option 2 & 3 - you will have the hassle to relock bootloader and later re-unlock bootloader if you want to root it again and this process will wipe your data.
I would go for option 1, no need to relock bootloader - you can get all the needed files in link in my signature

I think you can skip option 2 & 3 as it seems most links to required files are no more.
Go for option 1, no need S-Off, no need to relock bootloader.
What you need is an unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery installed, use TWRP 2.8.6.0 or 2.8.7.0

No, not zip file ... extract zip on PC and copy the last folder 4.16.401.10 not 4.16.401.10_ckpv5 folder to TWRP/Backup/Serialno./ then restore on TWRP
That's explained on step 7,8 & 9
You better read all the steps

Deleted Teamwin Recovery without having stock recovery again-Bootloop HTC One M8

Hey everyone
The thing is that I was trying to return my phone to stock recovery to update my phone to Marshmallow and unroot it and I read this in another forum:"Boot your phone to TWRP recovery mode by turn off your phone then presses Vol up + Power to boot into bootloader then choose RECOVERY. There is a more simple way, by using “adb reboot recovery”.
Once came into TWRP main menu, now tap Mount -> Mount system then taps Home.
Tap Advanced -> File Manager, browse to “/system/xbin” folder. From there delete su, daemonsu or busybox if it exists. Also browse to “/system/app” the get rid of Superuser.apk."
So I followed these instructions and then when I rebooted the phone,it got stuck in bootloop. I can't turn it off now or get into the bootloader.
Android-HTC One M8
What can I do to have my phone again in stock recovery?
Thanks in advance
First of all if you rooted the rom this ain't going to work. You need a never rooted stock rom + recovery.
Hold power + volume up and switch to volume down when the screen turns black (do not let go of the power button) then you are in the BL. From there you go to the custom TWRP recovery.
Then you have to find a pure stock backup or a RUU that matches your OS/firmware number (if you haven't made one yourself), restore it and flash the stock recovery and you are done.

You can't run the dev edition RUU at all as you are S-ON and have a different firmware. If you have the 709 RUU then try that indeed. But backup what you need because a RUU deletes EVERYTHING !

No S-OFF is NOT needed. just get the RUU with that version number indeed if it's even available. Then run it with a RELOCKED bootloader.

A stock back-up has to be unpacked and RESTORED with TWRP. No idea what you are doing now but i suggest to stop and read instructions first !

Fastboot

I need to unselect fastboot in my settings, but my phone wont even turn on pass the htc logo. Can someone please help me?
You don't really need to unselect "Fast boot" in settings. Its not even an option in Settings anymore in Lollipop or Marshmallow.
Even if you are still on Kitkat (few people are) the only thing that "Fast boot" affected, is that it prevented booting into bootloader from a power-off condition. But if you force a reboot (which is distinctly different from power-off), you can still get to bootloader:
1) Hold power + vol up until phone reboots (may take a minute or more, if you are stuck on the HTC logo screen)
2) Once the screen goes dark to reboot (but before the HTC logo screen comes back up) let go of the buttons, and hold only the vol down button. Don't let go of vol down, until you see the bootloader screen.
3) If it didn't work, you just didn't get the timing right. You either started pressing vol down too late, or let go too early. Just repeat steps 1 & 2 above until you get it right.
Thank you for help. I already unlock my m8(by HTC dev) and I get recovery and install from recovery superSU zip file. But i cant finished superSU parts(so I am still without s-off and root?), because my telephone still cant load android(I am still on ``HTC one`` logo). So question can I put original firmware into memory card and reinstall all system?

Many folks get fail to boot after trying to root; due to using an old SuperSU version. If the phone is on Marshmallow (Android 6), you need SuperSU 2.52 or later (2.65 is recommended as the latest stable version).
If this is the case for you (on MM and used an old version SuperSU) then flashing SuperSU 2.65 should allow the phone to boot (and with root).
You should also use current version TWRP 3.0
yes i am using TWRP 3.0.2 and superSU version is 2.65. I am still stuck on `HTC ONE logo`.

Probably your best bet is to restore a stock nandroid that matches your version.
You didn't make a backup in TWRP before rooting? You should always do that, for this very reason (in case you run into problems and need to restore).
For more specific help on what version, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).

Its not clear, were those the versions you used to begin with, or you tried them after my recommendation?
I tried those versions before your recommendations.

And still after optimizining stuck on ``green HTC``...even i can regulate sound, but this is it.

Not firmware but a RUU zip.
Note : MUST relock bootloader
Boot to fastboot/bootloader mode then run command in terminal
fastboot oem lock
What you need :
1. a MicroSD
2. Download the 6.12.401.4 RUU zip - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24369303960687057
3. Rename the file to 0P6BIMG.zip (that's a zero not "O")
4. Put the 0P6BIMG.zip on your microSD
5. Boot your device to bootloader/fastboot then select hboot, it will scan the update zip and ask whether to update - volume up to select yes
6. Let it do its stuff
7. Once completed, reboot
8. Delete the 0P6BIMG.zip on your microSD (or remove the microSD)
9. done
I to do relock, but still cant find right file in microSD card...why? I check several time of file name...
And now telephone cant even load himself, recovery etc. How to back from RELOCKED?

Having the bootloader unlocked or not (relocked, locked) , has nothing to do with it finding the file. It will find it either way (but fail to install if bootloader is unlocked).
You sure you named the file properly (first character is "zero" not letter "O")?
Also, make sure you turned off the Windows option to hide file extensions (which is ON by default). Otherwise, you may have named it 0P6BIMG.zip.zip and not know it.

i need you help guys , i'm just trying to power up my phone normal and never go back to this bootloader screen
You flashed a rom that wouldn't work on Sprint device by default. You need proper kernel to run with this ROM but I will not go further on this.
Your best bet now is install RUU meant for Sprint.
Everything that you need is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173

Thnks for your reply sir , i was trying to do this , but now my phone cannot connect to the RUU installation wizard , How can i do it
I'm not on PC .. unable to write proper guide.
The easier one for you is download 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip
then rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip and put it on your microSD, not in any folder.
On bootloader, press power once to go to hboot. Once on hboot it will scan the file and ask whether to update. Volume up to update and let it do its stuff. Once completed, reboot.
After setup complete, delete that zip file.
Before that, if you select to go to recovery, do you still have TWRP ?
If yes, boot to recovery and make backup of your internal storage as the above procedure will wipe everything on your device except microSD.
Or you can install any ROM with sprint support (like the one I'm using now) then you don't need RUU.
After completed and ROM is booting, you can install any other ROM with Sprint support.
But it's best for you to update your firmware to Marshmallow first.

thnks a lot , i'm going to do this steps seems easy ,
the last part that i didn't get , how can i update my firmware to marshmallow first ?
ckpv5 , got the ruu file and rename it and copy it to sdcard , but when i go into HBoot it says
Image Update Fail
Parsing ...
Device Halted due to large Image Update Fail
press power to rebbot .
You downloaded the one that I mentioned ? I made a mistake there (wrong file copied).
You need the one that have 4.25.654.14 in it, sorry.
When I said update to Marshmallow first, that's after you fixed current problem.
After you successfully installed 4.25.654.14, then do OTA to 4.25.654.18 then later to 6.20.654.3
(That's why I don't like to help when not on PC.. sometime copy wrong filename)

Your recovery is corrupted, just download twrp from their official site and install it via ADB.I trust once you get a custom recovery working you know what to do next?
Ty for the reply.
Which custom recovery do i need from the cid i have... ?
Custom recovery won't do any good for you ...
Just read this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/one-m8s-general/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245
then install 2.10.401.1 RUU ... that's for CID HTC__031 provided you not yet OTA to recent update 2.20.401.1
You can read this too - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...able-to-install-m8s-ota-update-v2-20-t3513297

Ive Read that i must the phone me s-off. Is that true ? I tried that with some progams but nothing seems to work ...
Not true .. you don't need s-off. What you need is a LOCKED or RELOCKED bootloader.
And the correct method.
Post fastboot getvar all result (delete serial & imei no.) then we'll see which one that you need.

I was right in earlier post.
1. You need to download the 0PKVIMG_M8_QL_UL_M60_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.1 _Radio_1.0.U20410.1 @ 60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed.zip from the first link that I mentioned above.
2. Rename the RUU zip to 0PKVIMG.zip and place it on the root of your microSD
3. Boot to bootloader select hboot, it will scan the 0PKVIMG.zip and ask you to update. Volume up to update ..let it done until it finished. Then reboot.
Note : You never say anything about your current bootloader. Is it LOCKED or UNLOCKED ? If it is UNLOCKED, you need to relock it first before you run the procedure. But I assume it is LOCKED as you don't know about custom recovery as in your post.

I can't access that site ... can't check the file.
Read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70051683&postcount=18 (it was the second link that I gave earlier)
Do you download from the correct folder - Firmware (Expert) -> Firmware Crypted (Original HTC)
Also check whether it's a zip in a zip .. if it is, you need to extract the RUU zip from the first zip (I remember this is the way they put the zip)
U were righ. It was zip.zip.
As it seems its fixed now !
Ty for the help and the time ! Wish u all the best.
Cheers
