Hey,
I have a problem with either my screen or my S-pen. Look at the youtube video and you will see what the problem is.

This only happens on certain parts of the screen, quite small area were it happens but really annoying.

The video clearly shows magnetic interference and distortion around the pen area, you can clearly see the interference pattern moving on the video, near the pen area, but clearly not at the bottom of the screen...
Do you have a case with magnets that auto turns on/off the tablet?
Take your magnetic case off, and it should return to normal..... The magnets are too strong.

So, i am getting this weird issues. The phone keep rotating itself (as if i slide out the keyboard. I know this because i activate the keyboard slide out sound) at close position.
It does this randomly. anyone have this issues? seem like the switch that activate the slide out keyboard have issues.
It's a magnetic switch which is responsible for the screen rotation at keyboard slide out. Check if any magnetic objects, maybe in your pocket, could cause this.
oh.. i just use an strong magnet and the rotation switch is located on the back of the screen.
This most happen when i take my phone out of the factory case. now .. even if i leave it on the table, it does that once a while.
maybe the magnet in the unit itself is not strong enough or i have a issue with the magnet switch.
Thanks for your input.

The magnet on the case may have affected the magnet in the phone. Like when you hold a nail up to a magnet, the nail becomes magnetic after removed from the magnet. Perhaps the internal magnet has become to strong, or the polarity is messed up somehow.
Magnets are a critical thing in the world. Indeed, maybe the MOST critical. There would be no electricity without magnets, and the domino effect of that alone. No magnetic storage, jeez, the list goes on forever. But wrongly placed, they can screw things up too.
Oh, and wearing them on your wrist for health benefits in in the domain of voodoo. They do nothing for you in that area
hi all
i have a strange problem on my 1 day old note2
i have been playing with all the feature and have discovered a sort of dead area when using the pen
load up snote/memo or anything else using the pen
then on the right hand side when using the pen there is a square about 1cm in size that does not detect the pen when applying NORMAL pressure, using my finger its fine.. then to make it more odd if i apply i little more pressure it picks up the pen.. when applying pressure the line being drawn is more bold everywhere until i draw over the dead spot when it becomes a lighter line ie nor picking up the same pressure,,
i hope my very bad explanation is understood lol..
phone is 1 day old and i'm not sure if i have a fault or a bug
firmware is stock thailand
gt-n7100
4.1.1
baseband n7100dxalj1
build jroo3c.n7100xxalj3

yes.. small unobtrusive one
just tested without case and no problem
confused
is there a thread about this issue .. looked but cannot see
Does your case have a magnet on the side of where your S-Pen does not work?
It happened with me as well.

yup.. thats the problem
having more info in hand google was my friend
:Apprarantly this problem occurs if you use a case with a magnet. The area will correspond with the location of the magnet.Samsung’s user manual clearly states not to use it with cases that have magnets. People have also commented on how this effects the internal compass too. Prolonged exposure will apparently result in the internals getting magnetized – no way out then!
People have reported that even after removing the magnetic case, it take between 24-48 hours for the effects to disappear. .!:
very worrying
i wonder if there is a way to block the magnet in the case from effecting the note..
otherwise its throw out the new case
I've noticed a skewing while using the stylus near the border of the bezel. Lets say 2cm in. First I thought it's because of a parallax effect and respectively the mismatch upon where you actually hold the stylus and what you see on the screen. But then i made a test with a ruler, drawing straight lines across the screwn. Here the effect is clearly visible on aforementioned areas.
This is particularly annyoing if you annotate on the sides of a pdf as in trying to follow the skew, you screw up the handwriting to no avail. Does someone else also have this problem or can try to replicate it?

I just noticed I also have this problem, when I turn the cursor to make it visible it off-set in certain area's. Anyone have this who had it replaced?
Is this not caused by a case having magnets that are too powerful
If neither of you have cases then obviously a fault.
i thought all devices have this problem, mine does and the one at best buy did too. I have a case but it's foldable and the magnets are not near the case when the device is stood up. It's minor, but it's there.
So, who doesn't have this issue when then test the edges using a straight edge.
Just tried it right now and noticed it happens on my tablet too. I'm pretty sure these aren't isolated cases and all the tablets do this. The surface pro 2 which uses the same digitizer also does this.

I'm not using a case and it also happens on my tablet.
So we have here 3 different opinions. Once classified as a defect, once as a cause of using magnets in a case and twice to be normal behaviour. Thx all for testing it out. On my part, I confess to have used a preliminary sleeve with magnets on the closing flap. Though only for two weeks and I'm not sure if it is causal as making permanent "damage". I now use a 360° case with no magnets.
The magnets are not near the area it happens and I also noticed it's not necessarily isolated to the sides There are a couple spots closer to the middle that it occurs on also. Is this classified as a defect covered by the warranty?
Also, as far as the magnets go does it generally happen only when the magnets are close or is it that once a magnet got close once the problem will always be there?

From what we know so far it's not supposed to do any permanent damage.

I am a new user of this tablet, and I can assure you, it's not caused by magnets or cases. Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago, and due to some mail incidents, the case and other accessories that I bought for it haven't arrived yet.
So, I have been storing it on its box, on a table that is away from any electronic device or magnet, and it has this issue. I have noticed it most prominently on the included SketchBook app. That leaves us with 2 options: An issue that is inherent to this tablet/digitizer or a widespread bug.
Happens for me too. But very faint, like a few pixels. I think the touchscreen driver could use an update... There are other issues with it as well as you can see in this forum..
Can anyone with a smart cover (the ones with magnet) confirm the location of the embedded magnet on the cover?
I believe book or simple covers, all allow the magnetic lock/unlock of screens.
Need it to emulate the lock/unlock feature using an old non-magnetic cover and some spare magnets I have.
Device : Samsung Galaxy Tab S Wifi 8.4"
I took a small piece of magnetic tape, which has a low magnetic field, and located a spot on the rear, along the right side, near the bottom. Touching the back about 1/2 inch in from the right side and about 1/2 inch from the bottom on the back with the tablet facing you is where it would turn off/on.
If the screen is already off, the magnet will turn it on and it will stay on when the magnet is removed.
If the screen is on, the magnet will turn it off, but when removed it will turn back on.

I found the exact spot! (the red spot at the bottom in the pic)
Works both from front and backside.

Yeah...but if it's a real weak magnet, hardly any pull, it won't work from the front. Which makes me think the switch is closer to the back. Dunno what the OP is doing but it might make a difference in how strong a magnet he uses.
But it's close to where we both have indicated.
Hello, anyone knows the location of the magnetic sensor in TAB A 2016 SM-T580 please??
My screen seems to be showing a bit of warping right at the bottom of the screen near the back and home buttons, right on the edge of the screen. Not so much that you notice but it warps the light if you use the screen to reflect the world, and only in that spot. Bit disappointed considering its a totally flat piece of glass!
Anyone else got this issue? Might get onto three about it. I'll see if it's widespread first.
I'll try get a picture later, or video if I can.
Warped like raised wavy or warped like wrapped screen that goes downwards into it at the edge? If either of those makes sense..
I saw that when in 120hz mode, but it looked more like an intended effect to me. It wasn't unpleasant in my eyes.
Also seemed to only happen on long scrolling windows. Short scrolling I could not see it.
I would say it's a pinch under the glass, but the glass looks fine, just reflections of the surroundings in the glass so right where the back button is. It's definitely not lifting and looks flat, but the light dances and create an almost m shape. It's far from anything serious, as you need to look for it, but just something to keep an eye on for early adopters.
I don't think the screen refresh affects it, as I can recreate with screen off.
Got pics from the screen, using my **** ipad camera. But you can see the warp. The white shelf is flat, being a shelf, so you can see it shows as straight up the screen then at the bottom forms an m shape.

Mine doesnt have that, so maybe your device has a defect.
