So, I recently bought a pair of these for the wife and kid.
I purchased what was listed as 32GB Unlocked for $199 from big A.
Today what arrived in the mail was a pair of 64GB phones running 3.6.8 (the unlocked OS version).
Has this happened to anyone else?
Is it possible to confirm this is unlocked?
No SIM was installed or provided (makes sense given it is supposed to be unlocked)
Battery/Storage reports:Your Files: 1.42Gb, Free 51.93 GB
That would seem to indicate it certainly is 64GB internal
I did not see any carrier branded software in the apps tray.
EDIT: Saw 2 reviews on Amazon since I posted the question about it. So it appears some orders of the US 32GB unlocked are getting 64GB unlocked versions.
Linkified the reviews as backing data (both are this past week):

I haven't posted a review myself yet, since I've not had time to really play with the thing.

You are very, very lucky. Congrats on the upgrade!
Yep, and definitely unlocked, the wife and kid are very happy now, both on our normal (not AT&T) carrier.

Hi I also got an unlocked 64gb, the barcode on the box scans as a 32gb phone, so there must be a few rogue phones around
I was concerned that the 64GB Fire phone I received might not be unlocked, so I called Amazon. The support tech verified that I did in fact receive a 64GB version and that it is unlocked. She also said that if there's a problem using a SIM card, I could return it "as defective" within a year.
One of the big complaints about the Fire phone is its lack of the Google Play Store which severely limits the number of apps available. After reading through several of the reviews at Amazon, I found the steps one can use to sideload it. (Can't post a link yet, so look in the review entitled, "Here's how to install Google Play Store and change home screen!" by Jason Singleton.) I haven't done this yet. My fear is that a "pure" Android app may not be completely compatible with the Fire OS. There are comments in the reviews at Amazon from people who sideloaded Google Maps and report that the street names are often illegible.
If there was a 16GB Android phone with an expansion card slot and comparable camera available for the same price, I think I'd buy it instead of the Fire to avoid the app hassle. However, to get a 64GB phone plus a year of Amazon Prime, along with unlimited cloud storage and automatic backup to it for $199, well, I can put up with that issue.
Lucky you! I bought mine from swappa and knew I was getting a 32GB.. But after reading your post I slightly let myself down by checking my available storage in hopes that I would be one of the lucky ones. Hah

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone in Toronto area would know a place to buy the HTC Desire Z that isn't from Bell?
Or if it is from Bell, contains no Bell software (unbranded) and is unlocked?
I've been looking and haven't had any luck.
and has anyone noticed that Rogers is falling behind in the phone model area? Their phones are kind of getting outdated...
Thanks!
I uphave one unlocked with rogers....yeh there wayy behimd in terms of android. I suggest checking out kijiji.com or look at ebay or craigslist. If all else fails pm me and ill find you some online.

I purchased an unlocked/unbranded Desire Z on Ebay to use in the states on the AT&T network. It was a North American Version which had the correct 3G bands for ATT. Had a good seller and good experience but the phone was quite pricey. They go for anywhere between $550 and $650 US.
I would suggest buying it from Bell via FutureShop or BestBuy.
You don't have to get a plan if you do that, plus they offer their extended warranties which still cover you if you root the phone, etc (though you should still make it appear stock).
You can flash the official WWE ROM which is basically stock HTC Sense. It won't have the Bell apps, and you don't need to root or anything to flash the WWE ROM (I think). You just need to make a 'goldcard' which is just a specially formatted SD card.

Be careful, because G2 owners have found big problems when they unlock their phones, like not being able to connect to any network after that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835673
Cellunlock.net with the code bbrocks50 for half price. You can find the phone listed a couple different ways. Either by first looking up htc or by first looking up bell. One is chapter than the other. I paid 15.
Zero issues unlocking. I think the issues are limited to g2.
I'm unlocked with Telus currently..and I used HTCsimUnlowNow.com. Seemed to work fine..the only thing was it was initially $15, but then I had to send them another $10 (after paying the 15) because of the Bell carrier or some excuse. So far i've had no problems..and i'm even able to use my BB data plan with the HTC despite Telus telling me it most likely wouldnt work lol.
I was wondering if I'm able to remove Bell's software using a program (TitaniumBackup, for example) or do I have to go through that whole process of flashing this and that to unbrand it?
And how bothersome is the Bell software?
..Although I'm gonna do it anyway but I don't have time right now to mod the phone.
You need root and it takes a lot of time to do it with titanium. It's easier to flash the wwe rom. But the apps aren't too annoying. The lack of htc locations is annoying
To elaborate on my last msg (which I wrote in a rush)..
It's more painful and takes longer to remove the apps manually as you need to root and then use Titanium's force remove method, one by one, which reboots the phone each time and takes forever.
Alternatively you could root and then S-OFF and delete those apps with the root file manager.
Or, the easiest/quickest way imho is to borrow/make a goldcard, download the euro HTC Sync, the WWE Rom, and run the ROM install program. It does the rest of the work for you
I was gonna go buy the phone today but Bell won't sell it unless I go on a plan.
I called up several different places, all the same reply, they won't let the phone go unless it's going out with a plan.
Does anyone know where I could buy it in and around Toronto?

I asked at our local Best Buy (Oshawa) yesterday and they said they can sell the phone without a plan, no problem.
I bought mine today, you can buy it at WirelessWave or Telephone booth for the retail price.
I did notice the timestamp on the text messages are incorrect though, does anyone else have this problem?
I bought mine brand new on ebay for $375, t-mobile branded.. paid $15 to unlock it.
I suggest watching for a cheap one on ebay, maybe even try to bargain with some sellers.

I suggest not buying from bell, or anything that is compatible with bell, unless you need it for ATT US or in Australia. Reason is that they use the wrong frequencies for use in Canada and would lock you to ROBELUS (the old evil phone companies). The US version of the vision is better... still compatible with robbers, but also with the best things that have happened to telecommunications in canada.... ever.
It sounds like we should start an exchange:
T-Mobile/Wind compatible phones exchanged for Bell/Telus/Rogers/AT&T compatible phones...
I'm on AT&T and I'd love to find the Bell Desire Z for purchase at a reasonable price. All the prices I've seen are ~$650 but the phones retail price is $500. Maybe I'm just not used to Canadian taxes... can my Canadian brethren enlighten this ignorant American as to how much the phone would cost unsubsidized after taxes?
You can get them straight from Bell for $565, with tax (13% on 499.95). If you look on kijiji and CL you can get them anywhere from $400-$500.
I bought mine yesterday for $480, no tax, and factory unlocked. It was brand new and sealed and came with a receipt for the warranty.
A lot of people are fooled into paying $600-$650 for an unlocked phone because sellers try to tell them that it costs $80-$100 to unlock it. But if people would take the time to look they would find you can get it unlocked for $25.

Camellia Red, Topaz Gold, Carbon Gray exclusive to HTC.com
Camellia Red and Topaz Gold will begin shipping in early October.
What are the odds I could convince HTC to send me a Camellia Red Unlocked phone to replace my Carbon Grey Unlocked phone when I apply for the Uh-Oh protection? I could wait 2 months with a damaged camera lens to get a Red model. I loved my red M8.
Other colors won't start shipping until October. Kind of like the A9, a fiasco, and 2 $100 credits I ended up getting with them due to delays on shipping. I can wait, and hope they can't deliver, and get more credits!
Now if I can get my credit reinstated of $100 that expired for whatever reason. HTC support is so slow!!!
Sucks that it's only for USA, that red one looks really good!

It's not US only @Chad_Petree it should be available in each country where HTC.com sells phones directly to consumers.
For example the discounted price (-15%) is 594,15€ for Finland, Sweden and Denmark at least.
Germany is 568,65€
UK 484.49£
France, Spain, Ireland, and Italy 636,65€
And so on. Don't have the time to check more countries..
Edit: Pfft, nvm, that was an old message to the original offer. Should learn to read.

I wish someone would tell verizon that now all phones have to work on all networks lol, because you have to do mods on the Unlocked 10 to get it to work on verizon and if you want volte to work you have to fully convert your unlocked version to a verizon version and verizon still will not accept and activate your unlocked 10 imei on their network, you have to activate your verizon sim in a verizon phone then put that sim in your unlocked 10. FCC should get verizon to stop this crap or start fining them.

In the end of your statement you said that you have to activate a verizon sim in a verizon phone...and then put that sim in the unlocked 10? I actually bought the Verizon HTC 10 not knowing any of this until I called Verizon to activate and the guy told me I could have just bought the unlocked version from HTC.com where I purchased the phone. He was actually really helpful. Most of the time when I talk to the folks at Verizon they're knowledgeable enough to know what they have to do. My question is: why do you need to go through the hassle of activating the SIM in a Verizon phone first? They have to accept the unlocked version. You might have to use a Verizon SIM which only makes sense to be honest. But those are free at the corporate Verizon Wireless stores...not the Wireless Zones and the Radioshack's of the country. I don't even think RS sells Verizon anymore.
I'm just pissed that I bought the Verizon variant. HTC.com should know better and just sell the unlocked version saying it works on all carriers. The Google Pixel coming out doesn't have special variants. Just one phone that works for all! Yes Verizon has an "exclusivity" partnership with them but I don't see the benefits for Verizon. Unless people pre-order through Verizon where there's more of a supply...and probably some ****ty bloatware that you can get rid of in a snap. I just got my HTC 10 on Thursday. I've already rooted it and unlocked it with s-off. I'm trying to find someone with the Android Nougat 7.x firmware but the people that do won't give it out and I definitely understand why. I can still return the HTC 10 within 30 days, and then buy the Google Pixel XL once they've depleted the pre-order stock. I've been loyal to HTC since the Thunderbolt days though. That's a long time.
So to answer your comment -- Verizon reps know they have to activate the unlocked version. But they can still require a Verizon SIM or I could have just taken the one out of my M8 I still have if they were that intense. Do you see any benefit with Google and Verizon being partners on this? It doesn't make any sense when you can order the phone through Google.com anyway.

Unless something has changed ? The unlocked 10 to be used on verizon has to have the verizon radio flashed to it which requires s-off to stick and root access.

Its been since april. The unlocked 10 needs the verizon radio flashed to it, plus volte wont work unless you use the other thread which you flash the verizon ruu to an unlocked 10 then volte will work. @afuller42 You either have to buy the 32gb or the 128gb and that's it. There's no microSD slot in the Google Pixel series phones.
New to XDA. Read forum rules. Believe I am in right place to discuss my situation/experience. I do have questions. So I am not 100% sure if I am on correct forum. But here goes.
Most of the threads I've searched we're closed by mods. Is why I'm posting this here.
I have RMA'd my VZW Pixel XL 128 gb phone.
I've religiously have never updated any phones I've bought so to root and benefit from capabilities.
I am no developer.
If I may have a moment of your time.
******* Here goes.
I had the known sim card error and issued RMA through Google's support. Officially had sim card error not fraudulent claim. Received what 1st rep said as official Google phone, unfortunately with sim card inside and already bootloader locked with version 7.1.1 pre-installed. I examined the phone so to make sure is 100% usable. "Unfortunately" it was 99%
Working. The model is NOF26V. I imagine it is the Verizon model. The problem I've found was a USB file transfer issue with the only bypass being enabling developer options and selecting debug when connected. Was not detecting device otherwise. This time I requested from Google support to provide me a non Verizon phone that has no connection to Verizon at all. No sim inserted nor the model being related to Verizon. An official Google unlocked phone, because they can't provide me a refund being a "3rd party sale" that is unpaid and would lose future business to a currently product expanding company. According to the rep, he's personally requested an expedited rma. Anyways, Being that any phones provided from VZW will be bootloader locked and am switching carriers and don't mind paying remaining balance with verizon is why I think he did so. I advised the rep I am a frequent buyer of flagship phones and was disappointed my carrier modified the phones bought from them. Actual first time hearing of this. Where if it was unlocked bootloader I could flash proper official file to fix issue. Rep advised manufacturer can modify phone as they please. Rma'd phone had Sim card error that took roughly 2 min to load sim as active, I do have two phones for certain reasons, so I switch Sims over. Rep advised all phones with Sim card error have been returned and fixed as well with latest update. In my opinion, sorta kinda.
Main reason for rma is USB functionality.
So my concern is. If I decide to continue my service with Verizon. Will it lock my bootloader?
Even after rep stated will be receiving official Google unlocked phone?
I have not received my device yet. And would like to root it. Being that I'm required to pay for service while having remaining balance I am inclined to keep Verizon plan for the remainder of my balance. Maybe switch to this Comcast plan.
Could someone provide me the information/similar experience with Google issued RMA?
I apologise in advance to mods if I've submitted a post that has already been discussed. I have searched a quarter of the 108 pages and looked at the video on how to properly use the search function of the xda website.
I dont believe it will lock the unlocked playstore version.. the verizon version has a different sku with other changes done to it... Will google even give you a playstore version? I asked after my verizon replacement from them had 7.1.1 and they told me no... You could always do a trade in for the new pixel 2...hehe

No if it is a Google version it will stay unlocked. They have different cid which determines the difference.

What the rep told me is that they have two facilities for their RMA's. They no longer fix phones. They just take it apart and scrap the non-working components. The phones provided for RMA leave from either the VZW Facility or the Google Facilities which are both normally tested before getting shipped out. Which would explain why he then said the known problems have been fixed.
I think the only reason they agreed to provide me an unlocked Google phone was because I mentioned I got the Pixel XL after Note 7 blew up. Also mentioned my girl had the Note 8 which looked spicy. And I suggested a refund I knew they couldn't uphold. So because I was unsatisfied with my second buggy RMA, he put me on hold and said that he personally issued an expedited RMA so I get shipped a phone from a non VZW Facility.
Maybe to keep clients from leaving because of Verizon.
He suggested to only buy phones from manufacturers of the phone to get excellent service and coverage.
By the way. What the rep told me is that they are going to partner with Asurion to file claims that are outside their 1 year warranty.
So I have the S3 and talked the other half into why I need to upgrade!
I'm on AT&T and am using a US Cell S3 w VzW Oreo so am not afraid of porting and making it work.
I do want AT&T NumberSync though, which is why I'm leaning towards getting it direct. But, I've seen a few forums mention getting the Korean version for the 6GB of RAM.
I'm looking to be educated, so please let me know your thoughts. I need it to be cell.

IMO go with Korean. Unless you don't care about paying for additional tablet line and rooting.
I'm able to use my existing voice sim in the tablet and it has a phone app and messaging like a regular phone.
Originally I bought the Verizon version - no oem unlock, requires tablet sim and only 4gb ram
Basically only downside I can see to ordering Korean one through eBay is the time you have to wait for it to get here. Not that bad but not the instant gratification we all want! I never knew about ordering foreign tablets, was always scared off by lack of warranty. But due to how carriers restrict US tablets, I will be buying from Korea every time in the future.

Because the international version lacks a warranty, at least for USA consumers, I purchased a Squareteade warranty.
Being in HK, I'm not sure if a warranty might apply to you or not, or if there is another similar 3rd party warranty available.

so if i don purchase an extra warranty i can get it replaced only if it's damaged or not working properly?
also, does the extra warranty cover all imperfect problems observed including but not limited to those i mentioned above?
and how about rooted device? covered or not? for example, rooted but green lines found later?

So, you're able to use the tab s4 as a phone? Can you access the Play store too?
I'm asking because I plan on buying a Korean one to use as a phone.

Yes. I'm on TMobile can use play store, Samsung dialer as if it were a phone, texting everything. Works great no issues.
TMobile sees it as an unknown phone I notice no throttling whatsoever besides the same video throttling that applies to all phones. (A VPN handles that anways. )

Thanks. I'm on AT&T so it will definitely work.
I've tried finding a definitive answer but I couldn't find it. I've watched numerous videos that showed the phone icon but nothing showing it being used. Thanks again. This will definitely be my next phone.
Is there root for the Korean model?

My Korean t835 is rooted.
Afaik the only one that can't be rooted is Verizon bootloader locked one.
I have the AT&T model.... I just assumed that it couldn't be rooted, like my note pro 12.2...
So I finally cracked my screen and the digitizer is starting to glitch a little bit. I do the root and add Wifi Hotspot trick because I have grandfathered Verizon unlimited data, and I love this phone, no complaints except maybe the storage space. I also travel internationally to a specific country once per year and always purchase a SIM card for the month I stay there and it's worked great the last three years.
I've checked on Amazon and a lot of the reviews for "unlocked" Pixel 3a XLs say it's actually carrier locked to Verizon.
Also, I haven't updated my OS with OTA, just been lazy. Will devices that have taken updates still be rootable?
Finally, am I being myopic? Are there other Pixels or non-carrier specific, unlocked phones which I should be looking at ?
Thanks!
Been a while but I bought this one in late january from amazon and it was not locked to google in fact it currently running rooted los
