After installing lollipop OTA, I experienced battery drain, so I did a factory reset and the battery was better than ever. Now recently, for the past 3 days, the battery is awful. Doesn't even keep a charge for like 5 hours. Look at the screenshot. I am fed up of always doing factory resets, and I barely have any apps installed. This isn't normal. I have an SD card, I tried removing it for a day and I still experienced the same battery drain.
Gsam / WLD / BBS?

I find battery life unstable too on all Lollipop versions from D to H. Test versions had much better battery life.
I also tried greenifying apps that wake my phone often, but still I see percentage drop even when I don't use the phone. I barely use phone thourghout the day (30mins-1hour on screen time in the end of the day) and I am left with 70% before going to sleep.
Try doing a CSE flash via FlashTool versus doing a factory reset. See if that helps.

As per title. Battery will drain .... Quickly !!! Then when I plug in to charge it instantly changes to over 50% charged. It will then charge to 100 (which I guess is actually less than 50% in reality).
I have tried various ROMs. I believe the battery is empty, just don't understand the instant reading of over 50% ??
I would assume the battery is done for. But I would try to drain battery boot into recovery And wipe battery stats. I've heard wiping the stats doesn't ddo anything useful..but its worth a shot.

Thanks. I was going to try resetting the stats but so many people say that does nothing .,... Have tried flashing 4.3 and will see if that kick starts the battery again.

Let us know how it goes, I've noticed my stock battery lasts about the same amount of time as my extended because I've used my extended the whole time I've had this phone. Good luck: 4.3 is slick

A full wipe and flash to 4.3 has managed to clear it.... Next dilemma though I've been offered a 4 month early upgrade to an s4 ..... With the x phone disappointing (IMHO) I'm not sure what else is worth waiting for

Hello,
I have had Cyanogenmod 10.1.2 for awhile now and i have only had one issue. My battery life has gone down dramatically compared to the stock touchwiz rom. I usually take my phone to school on standby and airplane mode and i loose about 20% in 3 hours. If I use the stock rom I loose about 4-7% in 3 hours. I looked in the battery settings and it said Screen, Google Play Services, and Cell standby took up the most. I'm thinking it's the kernel but I do not want to take the chance of flashing a new one. If there is any other solution please let me know.

you might need to re calibrate your battery.
also, check if you have any wake locks using better battery stats.
Here's a recent thread where they are working on similar issues. Won't be exact to your situation but may help you to track it down on your own.

Also, in the stickies, I suggest you read Woody's battery thread for a better understanding of some common issues and power saving tricks.

If you are putting the phone in Airplane mode, make sure the Location Services are off.
using themes and live wallpaper also is bad for battery. really bad!
i installed CM10.2 on my old Samsung Captivate and gave to my mom to use. Turned everything off and I'm getting excellent battery life. She gets 4-5 hours of talk time and still has 70+% at the end of the day.
Hello!
After the update, for some unknown reason, the battery percentage goes down really really fast, and it was not like that on the 10B. Just a general idea. When I listen to music, and the mobile data is on, it would go down from 57 to 54 in half an hour. Something is not right, and this happens ever after I made a factory reset...
Did anyone with the same problem managed to solve that crazy battery percentage decrease ?

Not really had chance to notice battery life properly, but it doesn't seem to be draining faster. Also my device has definitely been getting much warmer since the update. Think I'm going to roll it back to 10b(c)

Yeah it's possible, need the KDZ of the appropriate version to flash using the engineering tools.
There is a guide already posted in the General section, look in the sticky roll up thread.

Broken? Arasthel's LOS 15.1 is running very smoothly for me with decent battery life, not much worse than MIUI for me.

Half of the calls had no audio for me wit LOS 15.1. I definitely did not do anything wrong, I did your flashing sequence with total wipe. It was also draining battery and getting hot. I have no clue how it can work for some people and not for the others.

Maybe you should properly calibrate battery once new rom is installed. That helped me before.

I don't have a battery screenshot right now. But I definitely don't notice much drain when the phone is idle. I get 3-4h SoT per day with 20-30 percent left. I use bluetooth in the car a lot and always have it on, almost always on wifi. Don't notice any drainage when on LTE though.

I found out where the cause is.It's the location setting.Default location setting is high accuracy, which costs a lot of battery life.I turned it off and it's all fine now.9 hours idle,4 hours SOT,40% battery left.Really satisfied with that.

I really dont know the reason. But one thing is that because I came from MIUI, after flashing the RR, i do the "format user data" just to make sure everything is clean for a different kind of Rom. It would be a bit hassle to copy things back to the phone, but I just have to do that format thing once.
Also I use greenify with aggressive doze. That's it

I have no audio on calls - again. This is really starting to piss me off. If no one else has this, then it must be a problem with my phone. I have never tested it with miui to be honest, I flashed custom roms right away. I guess now I need to go back to stock to see if the issue persists.

It helped me. I am not getting any drains. Give it a try you got nothing to lose. Just discharge your phone fully and then leave it turned off to fully charge.

I found out what caused the battery drain issue.I disabled NFC,set location to device only, and it all went right. Now I'm really satisfied with the battery life. Thanks anyway
Ever since upgrading to Android P (OTA) 3 days ago I've noticed the battery life is really poor. On Oreo I used to see only 1-2% drain overnight. Now I go to bed with full charge and wake up with only 60% left. The battery drains a lot faster when I'm using it as well.
I used to be able to get 6-7 hours SOT easily. Now I'm not even sure if I could squeeze 4 hours before the battery is flat.
Is anybody else seeing this? Or is this normal considering Android P just got installed and it needs time to "optimize stuff"? But then again, with Oreo I got awesome battery life from day 1.
Weird, I've gotten better battery life..
Better battery here
Interesting. I'll let it run a few more days and see if there's any improvement. Otherwise I'm going back to Oreo.

Give it some time, once adapative battery figures out your usage and adjusts accordingly, you should see better battery life

Try to factory reset ur device this may help
Thanks guys. I'll wait a few more days. If it doesn't improve will try a factory reset
I'm getting better battery life with Pie
Pixel 1 XL could last a long time. Pixel 2 XL was worse and the worst with Android P unfortunately. I upgraded from Beta, decided to factory reset since there was a bug with Wear OS eating the battery. Got a little better. Got some more little better disabling adaptive battery. I think Doze is still in Android P.
Anyway, it's still not that good. But decent.
I am having the same issue.
when I reboot the phone, the battery seems ok.
But when I start using the phone and open several apps, the battery starts draining quickly.
I installed magisk root, should I do a factory reset and not installing magisk?
I went from a day and 17 hours to 16 hours. This is definiately a piss-poor "improvement to battery life."

I'm not sure how much help adaptive battery is going to help. It's meant to limit background battery usage of infrequently used misbehaving apps. If that's not happening adaptive battery won't do much.

My battery life has been terrible. Today I unplugged at 93%. I've been off the charger for 9 hours with 4 hours screen on time. I'm at 23%. With Oreo that kind of usage would have me at about 40%.
I'd rather not have the hassle of having to do a factory reset but I might not have much choice.
It hasn't got any better since I reported the issue.
I think I'm going to flash Oreo instead of trying a factory reset as I doubt it would solve the problem. Maybe someone else could try and let us know.
I'll report back after flashing Oreo. Very disappointed. I thought this was the first phone I didn't need to tinker with all these stuff on. I was really happy with it until this issue came up.
So a few days ago I flashed Oreo only to have it tell me it couldn't find any of my backups on Google Drive during the initial setup. Of course, the backups were done when I was on Pie.
So I had to upgrade to Pie then factory reset. This time it found my backups.
Yesterday I managed to get 5 hours SOT with about 40% battery left. Life is all good now

looks like i'm going to have to do the same. It doesnt make sense how some people are getting better battery and other worse. Are there some of us running apps not 9.0 compatible? might be worth uninstalling everything and adding them back day by day. it'll take a long time though!

same here, slightly better
It appears I jumped the gun. The problem came back yesterday.
The phone loses about 4-5% battery per hour even on standby. I have no idea what's going on; I haven't installed any new apps and usage pattern hasn't changed either.
One very interesting fact I have discovered is that the issue appears to happen only when I'm on Wifi. When I'm mobile data, all is good. So the phone seems to be doing some funky stuff when it's on Wifi lol.
Oh well, I guess I will try to install BBS and see if I could find the culprit.

That is entirely possible. I guess we have apps that have not been written/optimized for Pie? That would explain why some people are not seeing the issue and some unfortunate ones like us are.
I factory-resetted the phone, the issue is still there. I don't have any strange app. It seems that it's just the system that is consuming the battery.
That's very strange I've had the complete opposite, battery life has improved, if reset didn't fix it monitor your apps for unusual battery usage and limit the background activity of battery consuming apps
