Flash Stocked Recovery But Cant Update OTA to Lollipop - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did the same routine I've done to date which is flash the stock recovery with the right CID, then download and run the OTA however for some reason the update doesn't stick. It shows the green progress bar in recovery mode and then I get the red exclamation until the phone reboots itself with the old version...
Any idea why this is happening?

There could be dozens of reasons for that... Hold volume up and Tap the power button to see the installation log and you'll see the error that caused the update to fail.

It says package expect xxx user release keys but device has guy release keys.... Basically the release keys don't match? What does that mean?

Are you trying the Developer Edition OTA? What version do you have now? (I mean x.xx.401.x , x.xx.1540.x , x.xx.707.x etc) can you do a getvar all?
What version does it try to update too?
Also I don't think that's the full error, doesn't say much. Because for all I know it says "Device expects Brightstar US xxx -release keys and the device currently has HTC Europe WWE xxx - release keys. Just saying the release keys means nothing.

That is an error log from someone that had a similar problem before. Leaving everything out and shortening it to just "user release keys" tells me nothing mate.

The error log you just posted is identical to what I received.

I think that installation is just detecting that you're not on stock rom of some kind. After hours of trying to fix the problem I just:
1. downloaded a stock rom for my model
2. restore nandroid of stock rom
3. unroot (just in case)
4. restored stock recovery
5. re-locked the bootloader
6. updated using OTA automatically. Don't try to download and manually install OTA files if you're S-On, it just won't work cos the it's broken.
The key is just installing unmodified stock rom from a nandroid backup with absolutely no new apps installed. Anything else and you run the risk of it modifying the rom.
If you figure out how to trick the OTA to install an already downloaded OTA, to save on bandwith of having to re-download after a failure, whilst on S-On, please tell me how cos it would greatly save time. And before you ask, Sunshine, for getting S-Off is incompatible with my M8 Asia model, as you can see from the error log above.

4.2 OTA updated failed. Log sayd it is something related to sdcard-

Hello, I'm trying to update my galaxy nexus to 4.2 but I'm getting an error. Here it is what the log is saying:

After some time searching on google, I discovered that it was because franco.kernel updater changed the sdcard file inside system/bin. So, could anybody help me? I know that the major thing for me to do is restore this file, but I don't know how to get it in first place, and after I get it, the forum I was reading said that I need to set permitions to this file (more specifically these rwx,r-x,r-x ).
Could anybody upload this file to me and link me to some forum explaing how to set this kind of permissions? Sorry, I know it's lame, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, thanks for at least reading this.
---------------------
Before anybody coments: No, I'm not using a custom kernel. I have a back up of the stock 4.1.2 kernel which I restored to my phone.
I resolved this by flashing the system.img file from the 4.1.2 image, and then doing the OTA update again.

Update to Android 6 and TWRP

I have installed the TWRP and just wanted to update to Android 6. The problem is, that once the download finishes and the phone reboots, it puts me in the TWRP instead of installing the update. How do I proceed to update my phone to Android 6?
You want to install OTA on TWRP? Not gonna work, find your software number(4.xx.xx.xx) in Settings/about. Then flash stock recovery(numbers must match with software number) and try to apply OTA. You might need clean stock(non-rooted) rom.
I checked my version and it says 4.16.401.13, so I downloaded the stock+recovery+4.16.401.13_M8 and flashed it via adb using "fastboot flash recovery img". When I wanted to install the OTA I got into the recovery and got this: http://imgur.com/FpVk5Sg
Afaik I have the official ROM and just got root access for a few apps back in the days

unexpected contents(i think thats some root binaries etc)...
Anyways, check this thread and download stock twrp nand for your 4.16.401.13 firmware from here, follow the steps carefully, it's easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Thank you! Am I seeing that right, that all of my apps and co will be gone afterwards?
Yep, but you can always backup apps(+data of apps) with titanium backup pro and restore later.

Either need to install a stock (never rooted) ROM, of you have the wrong stock recovery.

You haven't posted enough information. Posting that you have the "same problem" isn't helpful, and usually leaves us lacking the specific information needed to help you at all.
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number).
Also, is Bootloader is unlocked?
Is the phone currently on stock ROM? Rooted?
What version TWRP?

Error Status 7

Hello,
I am currently trying the update to 6.0 via OTA but keep hitting the Status 7 error.
I tried several solutions from the forum without success.
I have an original Backup of the firmware with untouched kernel. I restored to original with stock recovery and re-locked the bootloader.
The phone shows Status 7 error after trying to update...
Any one else countered this issue ?

This usually means that the system partition was modified.
See here:
http://www.droidviews.com/fix-status-7-error-while-installing-ota-update-or-roms/
U will need an untouched system image and stock recovery for your software version.
U can find those in @Flippy498 google sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15K6xhb6wtosp9j8yu4xHBZ6n9v5OaFSW6ZVWxC4u_qc/pubhtml
I tried all STOCK back-up's that i could ever find here in this forum and the issue is still the same, cannot perform an OTA or install an ota via fastboot flash zip Firmware_xx.zip
If i attach the OTA to the SD card and update via download mode it gives some sort of error with -2, 22
PS: The errors i get in the adb are also Remote 22 and Remote 9
Cannot find zip header.. Either the zip is corrupt OR you can't flash zips because you're at official. You'll need the ruu..

Sory for the late answer, I don't confirm anything. But I ran into a similar issue with my zenfone 2 and it was a little while ago so I'm not 100% sure but I think it was just a regular factory wipe in twrp. So assuming you have everithing backed up I will sugest you give it a try.
I believe i may have found the solution, although id like to confirm something first, could you please pm me a picture of your Software Information tab inside of Settings > About > Software Information. Im specifically curious about your build number. It looks like Asus' method of catching those that Root/unlock their bootloader of hard coding a build number in when the device is no longer considered stock. so the Assert portion of the updater script will check these build value dates, and if it isnt above the required threshold, it throws Status 7.
