So I have had my Gs4 for about 20 months now.. I've noticed that the battery has swelled, and my phone turns off and restarts randomly at times. While I have my data on, it will stop working and it wont turn back on unless I have it plugged into a charger. Anyone else experienced these issues?
You need a new battery, Amazon.com has them in stock.
It will be good as new after installing the new battery.
I had same thing happen while on my GS2.

Hi this is my first post here, and I've tried to search through the general forum and Q&A with no avail, so I've decided to post it up.
Basically, my Gnex randomly shuts off (more often as of recent, happened 4 times since getting the phone), and won't turn back on. Once it shuts off, I kept trying to turn it back on, and even tried pulling the battery and waiting a few seconds. The only thing that seems to work is if I pull the battery out, plug the phone into an outlet, and then pop the battery in. From there the phone works fine. But since it's started to happen more frequently, I'm worried that there's something I need to fix here. Has anyone ran into the same issue?
I'm running aokp b31, franco kernel M2, and I've got an official 2000mAh extended battery; if that helps.

Is your battery a third party battery? Seems that if your battery is only giving the phone power when plugged into an outlet that it must be a dud. I could be wrong but third party Chinese batteries are not always reliable.
The extended battery is from Samsung, and it's been reliably usable for the most part, except for this issue. I haven't had this problem with the stock battery however.
Almost every week i have this problem with the phone acting a bit weird. First the phone start slowing down or kind of frizzing, next i turn the phone off...and on again. Suddenly my battery goes from 50's charge to 7% and the phone message said i need to charge the battery. I would turn off the phone again...take the battery out for few 10 seconds or more, put it back and restart the phone? now the meter says i have about 25% charge...i plug it to the charger and wait until is 100% and then seems to work fine for another week until the same thing happen again! Now im on FD16 but this problem has been occurring since i bought the phone 6 months ago on stock, so i think is not flashing new modems or kernels. a bad battery ? Does anybody have any idea how troubleshoot this a little further or has experimented this phone behavior. Or should go back to stock and send this baby to Sprint to try to get a replacement?
I just got to the point that i cant deal with this anymore since i dont know when it is going to happen and may not have a charger at hand!
Please i need some suggestions !

Anybody that can help ???
I have the same issue, is not the battery i tried a few batts and still reboots, im gonna wait for the official ics update to see if is just a bug or a deffective phone.
The battery percentage always decreases dramatically everytime you reboot. Android just doesnt read correctly after rebooting.

The only time my battery would drastically drop after a reboot was when I rooted my phone wrong and it would reboot about 10 times a day and when it did I would lose a good 50% of the battery. Now if I reboot I lose 1-2% even if I flash a new rom. On to this guys issue I would say if it has been doing it since you bought it, it is likely a hardware issue with the phone. My old Evo used to do that. I just ended up selling it because I wasnt sure if it was a problem with the phone or just the fact that, that phone was slow as **** anyway!
So, I am having a huge problem with battery/charging.
To begin with, this happened around three weeks ago, I was travelling back from Atlanta, and the phone was acting really weird, screen flickering pretty badly. Then I plugged it in, it shut off/died after a couple minutes. This was also coupled by the fact that the entire phone, screen, battery, camera area, was burning hot.
So about a week ago, I installed the newest JB upgrade GB27 (I think that was it). Didn't have any HUGE issues for a little while. Come the end of last week, phone was experiencing the same problems. Phone is incredibly hot, etc. Now when I go to use it, say for instance, listening to music that I have stored on the phone, it heats up when just plugged into headphones, and/or shuts off (I assume due to heat). If I am at home, and come back and plug it on a charger, it will sometime shut off and show a yellow triangle with a temperature probe on it.
The same thing happened tonight. The phone was at a 10% charge, after dinner plugged it into one of my car chargers, instead of charging it drained the battery to 0, so it shut off after a couple minutes.
You might think it is just the battery, but, I got the battery replaced on Friday, and it has been happening since then.
What else could be the cause of the issue? I am going to try to take it in tomorrow, but, I don't know why else the issue is happening. This occurs after full data wipes and an upgrade, and occurs through multiple batteries. :/
Hi everyone. My phone a couple months ago would shut down while I was sleeping, and it would be a hard shut down, as the phone would not power back up when my alarm would go off. I would have to pull the battery just to get it to power back on. I tried wiping the phone and same problem. So I had T-Mobile just replace it.
Then last night, I plugged the charger in and went to watch some Netflix and it shut down again. I thought it was the charger, so I left it off the charger and fell asleep to something on Netflix. I got to work this morning and searched around and found some other devices starting with Android 4.3 were having this same problem with Netflix. Searching this subforum, I found only one other thread that seemed related, but they mentioned it shut down on them without Netflix as well... Has anyone else had this issue?
So for the last few months, my phone would randomly restart itself around once or twice a month. I didn't really care since it was a minor annoyance. Usually it would be when I was trying to do a bunch of things at once so I figured it might be a software problem. However, over the last two weeks or so, it has gotten worse. I usually charge my phone in the morning for about an hour while I get ready for the day. So by the time I leave the house, my phone is at 100%. What'll happen is I'll unplug it from the charger then will get about ten/fifteen minutes of uninterrupted usage before the screen goes black and the LG logo comes on. And the phone turns back on with less battery. Then, as I go to put in my knock code, it crashes again. Turns back on. Now with even less battery. This continues about five or six times until I'm left with anything from 3-15%. I can't make calls without the phone turning off, can't take pictures. Can't really do anything. However, there are no problems when the phone is charging. I can use it fine during that. I'm almost positive this is an issue with the battery (going to order a new one soon), however I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem too and found a fix?

had this same problem many times. For me it's the battery. The battery really sucks on this phone.
