[Q] Battery or Phone Problem? is making me crazy - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Almost every week i have this problem with the phone acting a bit weird. First the phone start slowing down or kind of frizzing, next i turn the phone off...and on again. Suddenly my battery goes from 50's charge to 7% and the phone message said i need to charge the battery. I would turn off the phone again...take the battery out for few 10 seconds or more, put it back and restart the phone? now the meter says i have about 25% charge...i plug it to the charger and wait until is 100% and then seems to work fine for another week until the same thing happen again! Now im on FD16 but this problem has been occurring since i bought the phone 6 months ago on stock, so i think is not flashing new modems or kernels. a bad battery ? Does anybody have any idea how troubleshoot this a little further or has experimented this phone behavior. Or should go back to stock and send this baby to Sprint to try to get a replacement?
I just got to the point that i cant deal with this anymore since i dont know when it is going to happen and may not have a charger at hand!
Please i need some suggestions !

Anybody that can help ???

I have the same issue, is not the battery i tried a few batts and still reboots, im gonna wait for the official ics update to see if is just a bug or a deffective phone.

The battery percentage always decreases dramatically everytime you reboot. Android just doesnt read correctly after rebooting.

The only time my battery would drastically drop after a reboot was when I rooted my phone wrong and it would reboot about 10 times a day and when it did I would lose a good 50% of the battery. Now if I reboot I lose 1-2% even if I flash a new rom. On to this guys issue I would say if it has been doing it since you bought it, it is likely a hardware issue with the phone. My old Evo used to do that. I just ended up selling it because I wasnt sure if it was a problem with the phone or just the fact that, that phone was slow as **** anyway!

Battery at 40% -> Phone shuts down

Hi, my cousin's arc is acting weird. It doesn't happen all the time so it is hard for me know what is exactly wrong.
1) When the battery was at 40%, the phone shuts down. This happened once when I was playing with it and I thought maybe I mistaken 4% for 40.
Then a few days later.
2) My cousin noticed the battery was at 40%, he left the phone in his pocket and it shuts down. So now I think last time when I was playing with it, it wasn't a mistake.
Then when the phone is pluged in, it will be low on battery e.g. 4 percent. He doesn't use the phone a lot so it should last a day or two before it need to be charged again from fully charged. But the phone just shut down at 40percent today.
So now it is hard for me to know what is wrong with it. Is it due to battery being defected? Problem with the phone itself? Or might be some apps that caused the problem?
It is running on 2.3.3 Rogers firmware. Stock, not rooted etc. He had the phone for a week and it happened 2-3 times already.
Thanks.
You could try repairing it via SEUS but you will lose all data. Make a back up.
It could be that the phone has stored incorrect limits for the battery - a factory reset should solve this.
However, it seems more likely to me that the battery is faulty.
Thanks for these suggestions. I have searched the forum quite a bit last night and there were a few others looked like the problem I am having. So going to try out those methods first. Then the suggestions in this thread.
Has he tried running the phone flat, then take out the battery and charge it with the phone off till completion. Mine used to shutdown anytime after 20% ; after doing this it never has again. Shot in the dark ... worth the effort.
Any update??

Was the issue resolved? What all things did you try?
Nope, the best I got is 20% then to 1% then shutdown. It is in repair centre now.
I have tried repairing, reflashing, battery widget etc, everything I can find on xda and it didn't work.
Updates
It came back from the repair center and did not get repaired, it was phone being sent only. It still had the problem.
Then sent it again (good thing it is just 20 mins drive on highway) and left the phone and battery there.
Now got phone back, battery is replaced (since I think it was battery being faulty). Now it is at 29% percent and looking good.
I will update this thread if I got more. I am leaving this thread here so others who have this problem and tried all the suggested methods on xda and failed, it means that your battery is faulty!

phone or the battery?crashes or dies w/in 10 min only w/ gps

My phone has been acting weird lately. Just want to see what the consensus is. phone battery drains ok until I turn on A gps program will be about 90% battery gps will be on for about 5 minutes the phone shuts off restart and battery reads 40%. Then the phone keeps dying. Any thoughts im assuming its the battery but you all might know something i dont.
P.s. The phone is stock rom tilt 2
Thanks
That sounds like battery to me, but that doesn't mean there isn't also an issue with the phone...
If any of your buddies has an EVO or another TP2 (I can't remember what other batteries would work right now...) that you could try in your phone to rule that out?
If not, batteries aren't that expensive. I wouldn't go for the absolute cheapest on ebay either, find something that's got a brand name...
Thank you, a quick add on as to why it may not be the battery. I could'nt type it all out earlier because I was on my gfs phone.
I was away from a charger so just left it off for about 4 hours. Started it out of habit now its showing 80% after no charging. I also didn't mention Ive done a hard reset on it still get the same issue, everything is fine wi-fi for extended periods talking texting but as soon as I use gps it shuts down in about 3 minutes.
This is also a new issue and I have not recently added anything to my phone.
Edit: Update again tried to make a call and it died.. Ill take the suggestions and get a new batt.

You could also try a hard reset, flash a different ROM, etc.
Thanks for keeping on the thread, Tried the hard reset, the rom is what came with the phone never done a different one
New Battery is on the way. Something is screwy with it but we shall see.. If its not the battery I suppose Ill need to start looking for a replacement or an upgrade. Thank you for your input on the subject.

[Q] HELP! Phone shutting down not staying on

Hey guys, this started happening a few days ago. Basically, the phone screen will flicker a bit and then the phone will shut off. When I try to reboot it will generally do the same thing almost instantly after the ROM is finished loading. If I leave it alone for about a half hour and try again it will work for a few minutes before doing the same thing. Meanwhile, every reboot the battery meter shows it lower and lower until eventually the phone shuts off due to low battery.
However, when I plug it in, it'll say it's at about half battery life and the problem NEVER happens while plugged in.
Is this a battery problem, hardware, or software?
(It's happened on every ROM I've tried the past few days)
PLEASE HELP!

Does it happen when your in recovery as well or just when your in the rom?
Reason being, can always factory wipe, and all that.. See if it happens again.. If it does.. (Sad to say) Odin to stock. Test then. (that will eliminate phone if it works with complete stock.
Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854566 the title of that thread is almost word for word your problem. It was posted in general if you had searched before posting you wouldn't have needed to start a new thread and might have had your answer instead of waiting for someone to hand deliver it to you.

VZW GNex overheating and losing charge rapidly

So the other day I flashed a 4.3 rom and started having major battery drain and overheating issues. I tried re-flashing the rom and then tried some other 4.3 rom's and the same issue occurred. I then restored my nandroid backup from (4.2 rom) and it was doing the same thing. Even tried flashing a fresh 4.2 rom and still the same thing. Battery drains rapidly even while the phone is turned off and the phone gets very warm to the touch. I know it's not the battery because I have about 4 that I tried and my bro has the gnex as well and I swapped the battery from his perfectly working phone.
My phone also won't charge while it's turned on. Tried the trick with moving the pin up and it worked for a little while but now will only charge while off (sometimes).
Really wanted to hold off on getting a new phone until the next Nexus came out but looks like I might have to bight the bullet and get an HTC One, S4, or Droid Maxx.
So I guess my question is, is my phone completely screwed. Think I could turn it in to Verizon to get a refurb or am I screwed because I've flashed? Any other recommendations?
Appreciate it!!
hello sir
My phone was exactly in that condition.. suddenly battery drops without me doing anything, doesnt charge while ON.
Well, what i discovered is the fact the battery drops too fast is because the phone doesnt enter deep sleep or if yours do so then something is wrong with deep sleep mechanism like mine did. About the fact that it doesnt charge it has to do with ur charging port being somehow damaged, i think its by the use of non original cable.. I had to take it to repair and now its working fine
cheers
bump, same here, battery sucks and phone heats up, any solutions?
that's pretty vague because it maybe something completely different from what OP said. If you do have exactly all of those problems then im afraid that the only thing possible is take it to repair. I've tried a lot of roms and kernels and they all were unable to enter deep sleep, or i couldn't charge the phone, etc etc
I reflashed stock rom, waited for update to 4.3 and then flashed custom recovery, and after that custom rom, and so far seems like problem is gone.

Battery Failed

Hi Guys,
Ive had my GPAD for about 2 months now, i came to use it today and the device was dead. Simple enough i thought the battery had just drained, however when i plugged it in to charge it just did a strange bootloop. The LG screen appeared a battery icon with 0% appeared and then instantly rebooted itself doing the same process over and over.
I thought if i left it for a bit it might need a charge before going any further i.e. battery was completely drained. I have left it for over and hour and its still doing the same thing. As soon as you unplug it from the mains it dies and wont turn on.
I'm assuming my battery has completely failed, has anyone else experienced this with this device. I've owned lots of phones and tablets over the years and have never known a battery fail like this before?
Thanks

If it immediately gave a sign of life when you plugged it in, then it was not off. Power it off with the power button, then plug it in to charge. Try this also on your computer if that fails, and finally, treat it as if it were bricked and thus set it to Download mode, and try a recovery.

I just had the exact same problem myself.
I did use CM11. What did you use?
After going back to stock it worked fine. Now, I am just about to try cm11 again.
Sorry for Kate reply, didn't really Jeep an eye on the thread as I thought it was just dead lol. I used madhi ROM which I think is cm11 based. I'll try and put it back to stock.
Thanks for your reply
