Hi,
I always have to activate data-roaming to have a data-connection [emoji21] The provider I use is "bob" and it uses the signal from the provider "A1".
Do I have the possibility that I can use data without activate roaming?
Maybe your provider only provides internet on other providers radio or maybe you are connect in your place to other provider radio so internet connection can works only in roaming . I have Play provider in Poland and it uses other providers towers and I have turn on roaming because its country roaming
same problem...
Hey i got the same problem. I am also using the "bob" provider. and after flashing a newer firmware, i am always in roaming-mode. can't establish a data-connection anymore. Even if i enable data-roaming in the menu.
Have you solved your problem?
cheers

can i activate the "g" on my blue angel? its currently running on wm 6.1+manila by d-two..
G or gprs has nothing to do with wi-fi, your thread title is misleading.
you need to open the connection settings and set up your internet connection, according to the data, you receive from your carrier. usually, if you don't know, where to find those things, visit your carrier's website and search it for "gprs settings" or 3g settings or umts settings and you will find the information you need to set it up.
alternatively, have a look around the forum for the ADC.cab that is the program for Automatic Data Connection. it reads, what kind of sim card you have inserted and offers you corresponding carriers to choose from and configures the internet connection automatically, assuming that your carrier is listed.
but be aware of the fact, that because this has nothing to do with wi-fi, the internet is not free. you have to pay network fees to your provider, because you use a sim activated mobile internet connection, that is also pretty slow, because the blueangel only has GPRS and not edge, 3g or hsdpa.

hi chef tony thank you for your reply..and sorry for the confusion..im asking is about how to activate "g" on wifi because by default it only has 802.11b..is there any possibility?thanks again!
oh, i see. you were talking about wlan 802.11G. my answer was not very helpful then
unfortunately, it is impossible to unlock wlan G. just like sdhc cards, no one ever found a leak to create a driver. and even if there was a driver for that, you would only gain the ability to connect to wlan G networks, but there would be no speed improvement, the wi-fi on the BA is limited to 11Mbit
oh i see. thank you for your quick reply chef tony!
Is my Incredible any good abroad (without roaming service)? Can I make/receive calls via Wifi+Google Voice? I believe I can use all the apps that don't depend on verizon network. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!
If you don't have service from your carrier, you don't have access to data.
After all, the data connection from your phone is to the 777 (data) number.

If you do not have carrier service, you will not have data service. You can use the phone thru a WiFi connection.
so many half or confusing replies...
Is your Incredible any good abroad? Short answer: yes. Longer answer, how useful will depend on the apps you expect to use and where.
Most apps that require access to data work just fine with a Wi-Fi connection, so will you have access to Wi-Fi? GPS works anywhere (outdoors), but I have no idea if you will have appropriate maps for where you will visit. And of course any apps that don't require a data access will always work.
I travel. I deliberately selected translation apps that store the data locally. Ditto for my PIM - no cloud for me. I have a compass & GPS app that doesn't depend on maps. SMS (texting) service isn't free abroad, but is pretty much carrier independent, and lets me do emergency messaging. From there I carry an international calling card and find a landline phone.
If you are the type that's deep into social networking and yakking - leave the Incredible at home when you leave the U.S.
The easiest way to test this is to turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi and gps. If what you want works, then it is useful.
If you are going to europe, I don't think they have a CDMA network, I think they are all GSM. So you will probably get NO cell service, even for emergencies.
Of coarse Wi-Fi will work. You can use modded Skype app to make calls over Wi-fi. Google voice you should be able to text over wifi.
3G is part of cell service, and unless the country has CDMA towers, you won't be able to get roaming service at all.

This is correct I was just in italy last week and my phone was just a PDA at that point. Europe is GSM only and no network service. If your going to asia you will have service in some area best way to find areas is go to verizon web site our call CS.

In Norway I live close to the border to Sweden. I have to roam in my area to a Norwegian Network, because my phone company only have their own network in the big cities here. Before I had an operator the had their own networks in my city.
So when I now roam with the other Norwegian network, I have to disable that "Disable network data when roaming". And sometimes I now get connected to the Swedish network and have to pay 20x times more pr MB.
Is there a way to disable 3G/2G on different networks of my choice?
Hope someone know of something that will help.
Sorry for my English.
Setting-wireless and network-mobile network-dataroming unchecked
Something like this cause mine is in dutch.
Like I said, I have to have it unched cous of my network today is not the default of my operator, so I'm romaing all the time when I use my phone. I want something that can read the operators name and then enable the 2G/3G data connection is it is one of the networks I've accepted. If it's not, then disable the connection.
Cant help you with your roamaing problem, Sorry. But maybe you should consider going back to your old network. If you have no signal at your home you may have the right to cancel your contract.
The clue is that I pay 20£(with use in Norway) until 1.1.2011 to use the phone(sms/mms, calls, MB) as much as I want for only 20£. After 1.1.2011 I'll pay 20£ for 500sms, 500 minutes and 500MB.
But that only works with the operator network and the one they rent(like I use). The one I rent belongs to Telenor, the biggest phone company, as they have the best signal too, I want to stick. But they suck at priceing, so I want to be with my new operator.
But why is it so hard to read the operator name with an app? Than then can enable/disable data connection?
My phone is Desire and it is rooted, running OpenDesire.
Sorry for misunderstanding the first time.
One option you could try is Tasker. I think it has the option to turn data off/on when connected to a certain cell tower. It's not the exact thing you asked for but i don't know any other options.
You have to program it yourself, but just download the app from there site (gives you a 7 day trial) and try it if you can make it work.
Cell Tower, is that the operators ID or the tower itselfe(a operator has many towers)?
Hi,
i live near the border so my phone sometimes roam to another foreign network. I was wondering if there is any way or app that could help me block these foreign networks and just stay at 'limited service' if my local network is not available.
Thanks
Set your phone network manually to one provider in settings. Also I think I saw some roaming on/off widgets around.

just go in to wireless and networks>mobile network and uncheck the data roaming
As in not data roaming but roaming itself. And is there any free apps? Cuz I can't find any.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to change the preferred carrier network when roaming? I suppose I need to change the PLMN on my sim-card?
I found a way with the pc-software below (but did not test it yet):
https://www.dekart.com/products/card_management/sim_manager/
But I would rather have a way to do it on my phone, since it seems that I can only block networks in this program; and not simply change the preferred network.
Reason is that I live near the German border and travel a lot in Germany. My own provider (KPN Netherlands) dictates a their own network there (E-Plus), but it has very poor coverage where I use to travel; especially in 4G. So I would rather have Telekom - T-Mobile as my preferred roaming carrier network.
Is there an app with which such can be done? I remember that at my older phones changing the preferred roaming network was a standard option.
Or does anyone have experience with Dekart SIM-manager or another program which works?
Thanks in advance!
