CM11 d2lte vs d2tmo, FM Radio? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I've been using the d2lte versions of CM11 with my Samsung Galaxy S3. I understand that while my model (it says "SGH-T999V" underneath the battery) isn't technically d2lte, CM has unified the builds, using d2lte as a general build for a number of model variations?
Anyway, the actual problem is about FM Radio, which searches online have led me to believe my model is capable of. However, I can't seem to get SpiritFM to work (and using hardware checks leads me to believe that I don't actually have FM radio capabilities for some reason :\)
Also, would switching to a d2tmo build (which is a little bit outdated since updates stopped on it, right?) make anything different in terms of FM radio?

If you mean actually picking up local fm frequencies, I don't believe it's capable, otherwise it would be listed as a feature

The d2tmo hardware is missing the fm receiver. That's why you will have problems.

Basic state-of-the-cdma?

Hey,
had to go back to stock after some bootloops this morning and read the CDMA/LTE version listed on Google's dev page for Toro are listed as "archived"??? So what, they're not developing Toro anymore? And to that effect I'm confused, can I flash a GSM image onto this particular phone or are they of different hardware?
Really what I'm concerned with is Google no longer 'supporting' Toro? And if not, what does AOSP mean and are we in the territory where I should start looking into community developed ROMs for more bleeding edge support (in which case anybody have any stable suggestions? I just want something that works and works to the greatest extent of the hardware at hand.)
Thanks!
They are supporting the Toro just fine. They don't have access to some CDMA specific blobs, so it isn't "true" open source is my understanding. It is on the latest update the GSM version is.
You cannot flash GSM software on the CDMA/LTE version.
No kidding? I didn't know CDMA was so proprietary...so GSM/CDMA software AND hardware is different? Thanks!

Apparently some parts that Verizon uses are proprietary yes. The software is fundamentally the same, they just differ in how they talk to the RIL since GSM/CDMA use different hardware for radios.
I could be wrong, but CDMA/GSM are basically the same stock software but differ in radios.

Can the AT&T i317 be flashed to work on T-Mobile (T889)?

Hi,
Based on the wikipedia page, the AT&T doesn't support AWS frequencies in HSPA+ but it does support those frequencies in LTE. So I'm assuming the underlying hardware is actually the same, just no AWS HSPA+ support in the firmware.
Has it been proven (or disproven) that the hardware is the same? I've seen a lot of discussion but can't find a clear answer.
Similarly has anyone got an AT&T Note 2 working on T-Mobile (or tried and failed)?
^^^ a user already tried to flash t-mo radio on ATT's i317 and reported unable to get signal. 2G data works on unlocked i317. we still have discussion going on : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049970&page=2
I would expect it takes more than just changing the radio. Something has to control the radio and the ATT ROM doesn't know about the necessary mode. Can the entire firmware be changed to T-mobile? That's what I'd try if I had more experience and could safely do such things! I don't know if flashing a T-mobile ROM changes everything over to stock T-mobile configuration....if it does that should work if the hardware is indeed the same.
Thanks for pointing out the other thread. Might as well continue the discussion there since you guys have started already.

FM radio spirit FM

Hey so I'm seeing various answers in regards to our phones having FM radio capability in the hardware or not, some people are saying it doesn't period since LG didn't put it in from the factory , others are saying on some international models of the LG optimus G pro, they have this capability. I know for sure the phones don't come with the FM radio APK period but I recently came across the Spirit FM radio app that has the FM radio working on the LG G2 even, was wondering if our phones have the hardware to run FM radio or not or if the FM radio board is grounded? I run the app and it tells me to connect a headset and at first I was actually getting a signal but eventually dropped to 0, went through lots of posts in which some users said it works some said its impossible, my model is the e980 by ATT so its possible my board is grounded since its not international
I'm a owner of the international model, e986, fm radio was the only feature I misses from my previous device.
Like you, I want to now witches boards have this ability. I think isn't possible to activate the radio with software.

Verizon FM Radio

As many of you know, Verizon disables the FM radio chip in the phones they offer that have them. I read elsewhere that they removed or changed the FM Hardware API in the Roms on their devices, blocking use of the chip. I believe it was in the HTC M8 forum that I read some people have been able to regain access to the chip by replacing the API with a functional one. I am unsure of all the details, but I wonder if it would be possible to take the API from, say, the Sprint variant and put it into the Verizon variant? I heard custom Roms are also able to restore the chip's functionality... Is there any way someone could confirm this?

FM radio on Verizon phone?

I'm looking at an HTC One M9 (Verizon) for a host for LineageOS and before buying I'd like to get to the bottom of whether it has FM radio or not. Verizon's specs make no mention of an FM radio but I haven't been able to find anything stating Verizon 'deleted' the FM radio from the 'regular' M9. And I do know at least one case where Verizon deleted the radio from a 'regular' spec phone because I have one (Samsung Galaxy Core Prime S820L). So I'm wondering if anyone knows whether Verizon deleted the radio hardware or if the Verizon-specific ROM just doesn't have a radio control interface. IOW, will it have a functioning FM radio if I put LineageOS on it?
The answer is: Yes. I flashed the phone to LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2) an the FM radio is indeed working.
