[Q] How do I install JRE and Python 2.7 onto AFTV? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have an XBMC addon that requires JRE and Python 2.7. How do Install these 2 to AFTV?
Are there specific versions that will work with the AFTV?

This nhl gamecenter addon has requirements to have jre and python 2.7 and I'd like to know how I can install those 2 and how I would run python commands?

What version are you using? The current version of the gamecenter should be 0.8.0. Check your version, cause there is an old version that no longer works. There is no JRE for android, but the gamecenter addon should work fine with android.

you could try modifying build.prop and change ro.build.version.sdk to 5. Don't know if it will work.
please let us know if it worked

you can tell the app that you are on 2.0 but there is still no multitouch support in 1.5 so you only get errors.
multitouch in dolphin browser works on the 1.5 hero, if u change the build prop to say android version 2.1 and sdk 6 then it should work.

anyway to do that without using adb shell?
it worked for me changing the build.prop sdk to 6 and build to 2.1
since vi is unusable under adb shell.
I juste did this :
./adb remount
./adb pull /system/build.prop .
vim build.prop
-- Here I changed sdk and build version as it was said in this thread.
./adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
but no multi touch support, controls act very strangely.

would this method allow for 2.0 apps to be installed, like say....the new google maps with nav?

i can't imagine this to work. maybe you are able to install it, but there will be FC's when you try to start it, i'd guess it depends on more than just a string in some text file...

Firefox Browser

I would like to try it on the KF but I am not sure if I need to be rooted to download and install.
Is there a Apk file I could use that you know of?

Not all Android devices are rooted, so it would be ridiculous for a company like Mozilla to only provide Firefox to rooted devices.

Google "Firefox apk"
Mozilla is not the showstopper. Do you know of a way to load Firefox on the kf? One just cannot load anything on the kf, the closed garden is the issue.

Even though Firefox is open source, it does not fall under GNU guidelines. Mozilla still owns the copyright and has requirements for which it will be implemented, very much like Google does with Android.

One can "load" anything they want to the KF. Whether or not it works when you try to install it depends on whether or not it's compatible with Gingerbread and the device's hardware. It's all a matter of installing it to see if it works.

First, Download this: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....droid/multi/fennec-15.0.multi.android-arm.apk (got the link from the Mozilla website, if the mods don't like that i added a direct download link, let me know and i can add a link to the Mozilla page.)
Second, allow installation of apps from unknown services in the Settings
Third, use Quickoffice to go where you downloaded the apk. Tap on it and install it. Enjoy
Is anyone using a ROM with hashcode's new kernel 09/05 having problems with firefox fc-ing upon opening?

[Q] Running SDK manager without installing Java ?

Java has vulnerabilities and hackers have been targetting it since mounths.
So I don't want to install Java.

It is safe to install and use client Java (Java SE). Java is just a runtime environment and is not connected to network. So your security depends on what apps you run with Java. SDK Manager is a safe app for sure
Thank you for the information

That's not true, sites and apps were being infected with java exploits not your java.

So how standalone Java package (Java SE) can be infected? Only poor-written Java apps may be infected, not the Java package itself.

To protect from exploits, it is possible to just disable Java in browser. My browser (Chrome) asks me before running Java web-plugins.

Doesn't have them.
Hello
Have you try Aptoide TV market ?
What I do when I need to put apps on an Android that does not have PlayStore is to install the required apps on another Android device that has PLaystore and use ES File Explorer to back up the apps that I need on the other device. I then copy them to a USB Stick and install on device that does not have Playstore.

How to watch Amazon prime video without the launcher ?

I deleted the Amazon launcher so I could use fire starter since it's quicker and all my apps are just a few clicks away.
I usually don't watch prime video, but they have a series I would like to watch.
How can I access prime video. I tried installing the prime video apk as an alternative to the launcher but it wouldn't install.
--
Anyone have the launcher apk so I can reinstall it temporarily.
I had the same problem, unfortunately you can't (as long as I know) it's been if you keep the Amazon launcher

Actually on my FTV Stick 2 I have a package called com.amazon.amazonvideo.livingroom.firetv which is accessible via TVLauncher 3 (a 3rd party launcher). It works just like the standard Android TV app.
UPDATE: I tried it with AppStarter and it works fine!

uggh I have that apk, but it won't open.
I cannot reinstall the launcher since it already exists.
Under package manager it shows up as an uninstalled package.
Check out my adb commands

moving onto different approach.
Edit:
Managed to install the tablet version of the amazon videos apk, and it crashed on open
Tablet Version: com.amazon.avod.thirdpartyclient
Original Version: com.amazon.amazonvideo.livingroom.firetv
The original one doesnt even crash ... it just doesn't do anything when opened
@rockon999 do you have anything else installed?
If you never uninstalled your launcher, I can see the launcher as being the dependency.
I seem to be missing some dependancy
Edit:
I got the tablet version on the Amazon Video app open BUT
Error Code: UNKNOWN_DEVICE_TYPE_ID
... can anyone help me bypass this?
--
I think I found where it the variable is defined
Code:
const-string/jumbo v2, "deviceTypeId"
What
What is the prefix that defines this variable?

My launcher is "uninstalled" for my user. I have Google Play Services installed but I don't set how that would affect it. Be careful. There are two prime video apks/applications on the Fire TV Stick 2. One is for the launching of videos from the launcher and one is for actual standalone viewing. Look in your chosen launcher for both and try both. I think the incorrect one only says "Video" w/ the correct icon.
