[Q] Help me pleaseee...uncryption unsuccessful - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

When i flashed the rom it says mount: failed to mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p28 at /data failed; no such volume
i dont know it then i flashed gapps and format /system and /data and reboot
Then it says uncryption unsuccesful

yup, that makes two of us. tried installing lollipop and phone went funky, not sure how to fix it. tried google but nothing helpful, hopefully somebody can help us on this.

Both of you have the right recovery?

Any fix??

Yes

1-Install stock rom using ODIN and use OPS file , don't forget to wipe data after installation completes
2-Install CWM right version for your phone using ODIN
3-Install any ROM you want
hit thanks if it helped , if not please explain in more details your problem

Ok, for the Encryption unsuccessfull problem, this is what I did to get my Galaxy W to work.
In addition to format /system, /data etc, I had to format /storage/sdcard0 as EXT4. This gets past the Encryption unsuccessful problem, and I can flash the ROM CM12 and get it running.
But, I'm running into a weird problem that no one else seems to have come across. I can flash gapps 5.1.x, apparently without any failure messages on the flash window, and boot up.
Once the boot up is completed, I cannot see any of the Google apps icons at all !!?
I followed the same flashing process when installing CM 11 and 4.4 gapps, and this works fine. With CM 12, 5.1 gapps, I don't get any Google apps.
Anyone else came across this?
PS: After looking in the right place, many (all?) have the gapps problem in the cm-12.1-20150912-UNOFFICIAL-ancora thread. But I've also tried the RR rom with OTA updates. RR works - OTA just sits there with a blank page.

Help with Installing CleanROM.

Hi, I will have my hands on this tablet very soon and want to use the Cleanrom that is listed in a thread here. This will be my first time doing this and have been searching around for a guide. I have read a few bits and pieces but would like someone to explain in a few steps so i can get this right the first time.
I found a guide to Root it at rootgalaxynote.com but would like to understand how to install the CleanROM.
Hello,
You have to install TWRP Recovery first, then you need to copy Rom.zip to storage and then flash it using Recovery, dont forget about Wipe.

I havent installed anything yet as i will be receiving it for christmas. Not 100% sure on process so was posting here hoping someone could explain the process a bit more in laymans terms as this will be the first time i will be doing this. i understand you have to root the device so you can change the ROM, wasnt sure on what to do after that.

All you need is to Install Custom Recovery to change ROM, that will allow you to do anything you want with your device (such as System Backup/Restore, installing .zip packages, and etc.) read thread about TWRP so you can find everything you need to know.
But notice the fact you'll lose your warranty installing custom roms, as I know there is no way to change warranty bit back to 0 yet.
All information you need to know about Custom Roms is already there.

Can you give me a link to the TWRP thread you refereed to thanks.

Here you can find TWRP. I would recommend flashing the ".0"version because some people are having problems with the newer one
Worked fine for me , just did the same process as you

Edit: Should i do this first before the TWPR?
Build says CleanRom 1.0 but all apps are still present
My build says CleanRom 1.0 but I still have all of the apps that others say are removed such as Sketchbook. My note was rooted using the AutoRoot file with Odin and then the stock recovery was flashed. I then used the twrp 3.0 file and booted into recovery. I then installed CleanRom (without reset per instructions) and the device rebooted and everything worked except all of the apps were still there. I then tried to re-flash CleanRom and perform the wipe but I then got stuck on the Samsung splash screen to no avail. I booted into recovery and tried re-flashing the CleanRom zip to no avail. All I could do to get this thing booted was to flash the auto-root file again in Odin, re-flash twrp, and install cleanrom again from the recovery but all of the apps are still there. Before I did any of this I had a bunch of the bloatware either frozen or uninstalled in Titanium but now some of those apps show lines through them in TBP. Either way, my device is showing CleanRom 1.0 under the build but I really don't think it is... any ideas on how to fix this?
Hi i'm a newbie on android
i've tried to install this rom a lot of time but unsuccessfully at any time
i've tried all the solutions i found here but none were successfull
i am under TWRP 2.6.3.0
my tablet is rooted but after the rom flash ,when i reboot ,just after the "galaxy note edition 2014" logo there's a black screen
the only way to repair is to flash with the mk1 stock rom after or to restore my old version saved with TWRP
can someone help ?
thanks

Before flashing your rom perform a factory reset in twrp and format /data. All your apps will be deleted and you should be fine if you are stuck on the samsung boot logo it might help to boot into recovery and format /cache and dalvik cache

So, I did the factory reset in twrp and then formatted the data. Naturally, everything was lost but when I went to install CleanRom it was no longer on the internal memory due to the format... but I did copy it to the Ext SD Card. MY problem is that twrp won't install the zip from the sd card. Each time it says its unable to mount "/data" even though I'm going into "advanced settings" and placing the check mark. I re-flashed twrp and tried using file manager to move the file to the internal storage but came up with the same problem. Also, I can't place the check on mount data for some reason. Now, my tablet starts to boot up but hangs on the samsung screen before the boot animation. Basically, its like there isn't any firmware on it and I tried re-doing the auto-root and stock recovery but thats a no go as well. Is this thing toasted?

Boot into TWRP and click "Restore Back Up" (Cannot remember exact verbiage) . Find where it says internal storage and press it and it will switch to a drop down and you can choose "External SD" Then go back and and it should be going to External SD instead of internal SD when you select install
Make sure you factory re-set. For safety, I advance wipe but I don't think that is necessary.
You may need to re-flash recovery if you're unable to access it.

Your device is not toasted I always have the Rom zip on the root directory of the device so formatting /data will not affect the rom zip. If you cant get it working then you might need to flash a firmware via odin and after that copy the rom on the internal root directory. Resetting your device should not format the whole internal storage so you can install the rom afterwards. Good luck mate

After the holiday (and many stressful attempts) I was finally able to re-boot the device and get past the splash screen. Opening Kies seemed to "kick" past the splash screen even though it said my device wasn't compatible with Kies. Anyway, I flashed the stock recovery, wiped, reset, flashed original firmware via Odin, flashed TWRP again, and then installed the CleanRom zip. Phew... it's FINALLY over with no issues and running smooth. I think the problem came in with TWRP not wiping correctly even though it said it did. I do appreciate all of the help and advice as you guys are life-savers!

When I installed with TWRP 2.6.3.3 & 2.6.3.1 I got the write permission denied and then I tried with 2.6.3.0 it got hung while installing CleanRom 1.5R2. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Thanks

TWRP - E:Unable to mount '/system'

I just recently installed the TWRP v2.6.3.0 on my 210R, and after trying to install the V5 FastDream ROM, it completes, and then TWRP says Updating partition details... and then the next line is E:Unable to mount '/system'. And then when I try to reboot into the ROM that completed installing, it just sits at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 screen. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Having the same identical problem here with different ROM someone suggested using clockwork recovery. Just flashed that and did a recovery. I'll try and report back if that fixed the issue.

Nevermind
When in recovery go to the Mount tab and is system checked?
I had the same issue when installing my 1st custom rom. To resolve just reflash the custom rom again i.e. reboot into recovery manually (menu button + volume up + power button) then install the custom rom again.
I too had this problem, didn't try reflashing but switching to clockwork fixed it for me. I don't like it as much as TWRP but it worked

TWRP will not let select "System" under Mount. I have tried to reflash CWM Recovery with no avail. my tab locks up at the recovery boot screen. have to reflash TWRP back. now I have no Rom due to my mistake of making a backup on the device memory instead of my sd card. can someone knows where I can find a stock rom I can flash using Odin?.
The strockrom you can find at sammobile.com. You just sign in but its free.
I have the same device and had the same problem.
Instead of using TWRP or the ordinary CWM, @Ripshock suggested to me Phils CWM v2, here, and with absolutely one try, I had my RocketTab 3.1 up and running.
Just remember to always perform a backup with each recovery you experiment with. From personal experience TWRP, CWM and Phil's CWM v2, each backup differently, therefore, they only restore the backup they made (so i assume). But so far, my Tab works like a charm.
E: it sits at the Galaxy Tab screen because there is no OS installed once that system mount error occurs. Restore the stock backup and flash Phils CWM v2 with Odin.

Is that your TWRP Version 2.4.4.0?
If yes, its to old , flash The newest one TWRP 2.7.0.1.
Which Rom you want to flash?, depent ob Rom / updater script you need The newest Recovery Version.

So did you get a solution for the mounting issues ?
I have a same problem on my Umi Zero, TWRP is not unable to mount system and after wipe I cannot flash any ROM or even restore myu backup, it always says unable to mount /system. Any idea how to fix this?
Same proble with p900
i have same problem as you guys. I have E:Unable to mount '/cache' and yes i have unticked Cache. At star, it looks like it works, cyanogenmod loading screen appears and animation is running, but thats all. Nothing else i can do. Waiting about 2 hours still nothing. Any ideas ? TWRP is the latest 2.8.7.0
I had the same issue when I tried to change kernel and I couldn't: in my case (d802 with a working ROM) nothing was mounted (system, data, etc) even though I switched from TWRP to CWM and vice versa. However it came to me that I had encrypted the device and when I entered recovery, I was not prompted with the pin to unlock it. I had the latest version of TWRP (v.2.8.6) according to Flashify app and still nothing. Problem solved when I installed the TWRP by blastagator (v.2.8.7.3). By entering recovery, I am prompted with the pin to unlock device and everything works perfectly without touching anything my existing ROM!

Thanks for this dude. I couldn't mount System with CW either but nevertheless it installed this rom (Sweet Dreams V2) on my gf's tablet like a charm.
hi guys i have a solution to the same problem
First try to format your data in wipe
then try to wipe cache, data, system' one by one
it worked for me
Good luck
today i found my old phone, bricked, i've spent my morning fixing it. i faced the same problem, my solution was: change the system from ext4 to ext2, then i went to Mount tab and checked the system. Works fine to me
im using TWRP_Win_JUL-2014.tar
you can change the ext4 to ext2 by: going to Wipe, Advanced Wipe -> FS options -> Change FS

[Q] Encryption Failed

First Yes i have searched and i found several posts but none had enough information or ended up with directing the op to the de-brick thread I feel its not bricked and I don't want to run into more problems.
Here is how it goes down
using 4.2.1 Rom
using CWRM 6.0.3.1
I tried to encrypt my phone (don't ask me why as if i could go back in time i wouldn't have tried it)
So first it would only boot to the screen that says encryption failed factory reset and try to encrypt again and has a restart button at first nothing worked even the Rom UI would crash at this point and the restart (software button) on the screen was unresponsive. I then went into recovery and tried to load a recovery and it could not mount /data as it read as it was secured. So i went and formatted it and was successful with restoring a backup Although as soon as it booted again it brought me right to that same screen?
I am going to try to start over with a new Rom installation while i wait for a reply.
I just hope i can get it done simply without Odin or connecting it to my PC as i tend to not have good luck with that. IDK whats up with my PC.
Anyway if a simple Rom install fixes it ill be happy but something is still there saying i want to encrypt it or IDK what is causing it to go to the encryption failed page when I have formatted all but /sdcard (i was afraid to unless I'm told) I know everything else is fine /system /data /cache are all replaced by the Rom so i know its OK to format them but /sdcard is all the data on the phone so I'm not afraid of losing music ringtones pictures etc if i do need to format /sdcard but i want to be told i should first
also please ask me for any in formation you may need i want to fix this and also i need to go find a Rom so also a Rom suggestion is fine too (if its going to help otherwise I'm going to find a basic 4.2.1 Touchwiz based Rom and flash that

THANKS I tried flashing a fresh ROM after formatting everything now im in a boot loop and as it not bricked (soft bricked anyway) i was hoping a new route66 via Odin would be my main option.
Now as far as it goes on updating to 4.3 what file should i flash via Odin? should i use T999_UVDMD5 to get it working again then use T999_UVUEMJC to update to 4.3 (how i went from ICS to JB so would it be the same to KK ,4.3,) or can i just do a single Odin to T99_UVUEMJC so I u can be ready to use 4.3 roms. I just want to make sure because if I don't' have to use a 4.13 route 66 ROM to com back from this boot loop can I skip the step of using Odin to UN soft brick my 4.1.2 and go straight to 4.3.
I just want to know the best way to go about eventually being able to load 4.3 roms on this phone more because they are easier to find (as in more developed at this time) and to be update
I appreciate all your help and in case any ROM devs are reading this I love your work each and every one of you make this place better i wish i had the (first smarts) and second the time to mod for myself but over the years you guys are just awesome and i wish i was at any of your levels (all who post or even mod for themselves) as if i knew what you did i would not be in the predicament either and if i can fix it i will be pleased with myself as i bet most or all devs could fix this issue in 5-10 min where you can see Ive been at it days! Thanks in advance for any future help and most of all so far thank to you Perseus71 for helping me start
Never EVER flash UVUEMJC. Let's first get you back working with UVDMD5. Once that's achieved, I will get you 4.3 by another way.
For now, If you are right now on that bootloop/softbrick with just the UVDMD5, then great. If not go back to recovery, factory reset and wipe the cache and Re-flash UVDMD5 via Odin. This time, in Odin, make sure to uncheck Auto Reboot.
Once Odin has succeeded, Flash a custom Recovery such as TWRP via Odin. After that is done, reboot to recovery. Wipe Dalvik and Cache and then reboot normal.

If you want to install a custom ROM such as CM12.1, you do not need root.
You need to install a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM so you can flash a custom ROM, supersu for root if necessary, and gapps.

Honestly this is a pretty helpful guide
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-on-android-4-34-4-2-new/
There are a few versions of ODIN floating around but I would use the one in the link and if that won't work then check out one of the others but I would recomend getting the latest version of TWRP (which is the custom recovery I'd recomend and I'd recomend getting the latest version from here: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys3att.html
If you ind you're not booting into TWRP then do the following steps:
2) Hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power buttons together until you see a warning screen
3) Open Odin but uncheck reboot, install TWRP
4) After Success, remove battery and unplug usb
5) Hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power button together
6) Go to Advanced File Mangaer and Mount System Partition
7) Go to File Manager and delete:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
8) Install SuperSU
Hope that helps

ok, i don't suppose you know of a good guide for installing CWM?
or would TWRP be easier to install, as i've read in some posts that CWM can't be installed via odin because of it being in a .IMG file instead of .tar
EDIT: @Matt K
so TWRP would be easier basically? ok, sounds good to me, thanks
EDIT2:
so question, i currently have TWRP installed as the recovery, and CM12 nightly installed for the rom, i took a backup of my phone from within twrp right before i did any factory resets or flashing of roms of any kind, if i wanted or needed to get back to stock touchwiz as my phone was before cm12 would restoring from the backup do that? or would there be something else i have to do to go back to touchwiz

On occasion it is necessary to format the internal sdcard when you wipe data/dalvik/cache prior to flashing stock TW when coming back from a LP rom. Many who don't find they are stuck at the AT&T logo when booting.
ok, so i needed something from before cm12 today, did as you said, factory reset, then format data, i then restored from backup
while i did get into android, i kept getting all sorts of messages of "APPNAMEHERE has stopped" and after going to settings i couldn't get back to the home screen, everything was broken
decided to just do what you said, except this time flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/general/rooted-ucufnj1-stock-rom-t2985006 this instead (and yes i am sure my phone is ucufnj2) and it always got stuck at the end of the AT&T boot logo, so i tried your way again, except this time the flash failed and it said something about "E: command not found", i was able to reflash cyanogenmod though, but i'd like to be able to get my touchwiz back
you know what, don't want to deal with this, how do i get my phone back to normal, i've never had a problem with touchwiz, it's not slow (or at least not nearly as slow as people say it is) and it worked pefectly fine for me, so how the hell do i get this backup to work correctly (i did have some apps on my external sd card, but AFAIK they weren't removed as the same amount of storage space is still being used
according to the TWRP log this is what's happening:

ok, managed to get that unufnj2 rom to flash, i guess the one on my phone got corrupted somehow and deleting then re-copying fixed it, however i still only get a black screen with a bunch of "APP Has stopped working here"
that and the power options are the only things that work from touchwiz anymore, however cm12 still installs and works fine, so obviously it's not my phone, so what the heck is wrong with touchwiz
Before installing a 4.4.2 rom, try doing a full wipe from twrp before restoring a kk backup or installing a kk rom.
The full wipe recommended by audit13 is more than wiping /data, /cache, /dalvik-cache. It includes formating the internal sdcard, as previously recommended. A factory reset and wipe of data does not do the needed function.
I did do a full wipe, twrp was literally the only folder still on the internal storage, at least as far as I could tell, are you saying I have to use that wipe buttton and select everything except external, and uab otg?

The other thing I have seen a few say was necessary for them to be able to flash and boot back into stock TW after returning from 5.1.1 was to factory reset from the stock recovery. You can find a flashable zip of the stock recovery in the NJ2 thread by enewman17.

first off, sorry if i come off like an asshole in any of posts, i tend to do that a lot when i don't mean to
second off i edited the post you replied to, by full wipe does that mean i have to use the "wipe" button and choose everything except USB-OTG and external storage?
and if you did but it still doesn't work, for recovery stuff, i'm assuming i'd have to flash touchwiz first, THEN stock recovery (and i'm assuming recovery from odin) yes?

Not a problem, but thanks.
Yes, all but external storage and USB_OTG.
I think enewman17 actually has recovery flashable TW stock roms and a recovery flashable stock recovery; here for NJ1 and NJ2 and stock recovery. The ROMs are pre-rooted.
actually already knew about the roms, but i was actually looking about XDA and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development/s3-r3born-rom-based-likewise-s5-t3106075
this should be flashable via TWRP yes? the reason i'm asking is that i would like to do touchwiz, but at the same time the s3's is a bit out of date by now, this seems to be a combination of touchwiz from the s5, and s6 all ported to the s3, however in the requirements it says CWM recovery, so i'd like to be sure it will work via TWRP before trying it

It should work fine with TWRP, in fact it has been so long since CWM was updated that it won't install all ROMs. I have been watching that thread for a bit also and am waiting until he finishes the update he is working on. If you like the R3ARMED rom because of the S5/S6 bits, you may also like the Likewise ROM.
ok, so now the only thing i'm wondering is how do i tell if i'm on the 4.4 modem/bootloader?
the last stock rom from OTA i had installed was from august, and android version 4.4.2, according to download mode my boot loader is 3
whatever that means i have no idea

There is an app in the Playstore, Phone Info *Samsung* by vndnguyen.
If you have Terminal Emulator on your phone you can tell with two commands:
Code:
getprop ro. bootloader
getprop | grep version.baseband
The 4.4.x versions for the i747 are NE4, NJ1, and NJ2.
ok, so everything go's good until it reboots after installing rearmed, i see the TWRP style samsung galaxy s3 logo, then my blue notification light comes on and pulses as if it was booting, then it reboots again but this time into recovery mode, i factory reset and wiped data as the instructions said to, and i did get some armoa installation thing (one part of which also asked me to choose a kernel, i chose the one that said "stock ob3 kernel" as i don't know what the other ones would do)
the installer even said that battle frontier 4.1 rom was installed successfully, but like i said earlier in the post, nothing but the blue notification light
any idea's? (atm i'm trying to restore from my backup again after doing a full wipe, so that i have something to use until i get the rearmed thing working)
huh, i've noticed something, cm12 is the ONLY rom that seems to want to work, tried likewise, it stayed at the samsung boot logo for ages, i did eventually get rearmed to correctly install, but it has the same problem as likewise, touchwiz doesn't seem to like working at all anymore, while cm12 installs perfectly every time
what the heck is wrong with my phone

My first guess is that CM12 is not the only rom that will work. Try another 5.1.1 based AOSP or CM ROM to verify this.
Going back from a 5.1.1 ROM to a KitKat TouchWiz ROM will probably require formating the internal sdcard. Selecting wipe in recovery is not the same as formating. Did you actually format the internal sdcard? If formating alone doesn't do it then installing a stock recovery and factory reset from within the recovery should fix things.

there doesn't seem to be a format button in twrp other then the format data button

Unable to wipe data in TWRP

So, I unlocked my bootloader and wanted to flash Lineage OS, but my phone had a different opinion.
I went into TWRP and tried to format data, but I'm getting
Code:
Formatting Data using mkfs.f2fs...
mkfs.f2fs -t 0 -r 16384 /dev/block/mmcblk0p56
process ended with ERROR: 1
Unable to wipe Data.
Unable to format to remove encryption.
I've tried repairing the data partition, changing the filesystem, nothing works...
Any ideas as to what might be wrong, or how to fix it?
Thanks

I was using TWRP, but I somehow managed to fix it using Redwolf. Have no idea what happened, but it's ok now.
Hello, I encountered the exact same issue with same origin...
Do you remember what you did to sort this out ?
thanks
(I posted in another thread, before finding yours)
You should check the f2fs kernel workaround guide .
Your problem is due to using incompatible twrp .
Read the guide you'll get around the problem .

Thanks... well that's weird, because I downloaded the TWRP recovery linked in LineageOs kuntao install page and I'm coming from stock...
Anyway I just solved my issue by installing Redwolf recovery :
There I could format /data.
I installed crdroid + gapps, but got a "Encryption Unsuccessful" on reboot.
I changed /data from f2fs to ext4 and could reboot properly.
Phone is working good. (I can't get fingerprint reader to unlock my crdroid rom but that's another story and maybe normal limitation, I'll check).

If you ever need to format data just use official build from twrp.me. The one from Lineage wiki has some problems for now. Redwolf is probably based on official one, that's why you succeded.
The thing is that you need to use it ONLY to format /data partition and then switch back to Lineage one before flashing system zip. Known problem, wiki is just a little misguiding here.
Hello. Same problem here, not solved with RedWolf, neither official TWRP.
I've just followed the guide about lineage 15.1 and I really don't know how/if proceed.
Any help would be really appreciated

Update: after closing and run again RedWolf, tap to Format data, magically it worked. I don't know why but thats'it.
Thanks.
this issue seems to pop-up now and then.
just to make it easier for future users coming across this issue. I had explained the issue here in the following post and how to fix it.
just scroll down till it says: "so for those that would like to switch to f2fs but for some reason end up in "black screen with blue led and the phone vibrates".
it applys to the same /data issue.
