Hello everyone!
I was wondering if it is possible to text someone just by using your Wi-Fi. I don't have the best of service, so I often get text messages really late. Is there any app that I can use that will allow me to receive messages over Wi-Fi? I've heard about Google Hangouts before, is it a good replacement to use instead of the stock messaging app? Also, what don't you like about Hangouts? Thanks a lot for your answers!

+1 :good:
The above statement is accurate about Verizon messages, not a bad app either. Hangouts works great for video chatting and phone calls over wifi too but if you are just needing messaging, I would go with Verizon messaging as the other user of hangouts would have to have a gmail account. While I realize most people do, now, have a gmail account I have found many people do not want to message in Hangouts.

So I disabled Texting on my GS3 and opted for google voice which can push texts to my phone. I'm not sure if I can receive or send MMS/picture messages on my phone through data only. anyone know any solutions?

Not trying to sound like a smart ass, but why not just email the picture? quality stays the same and no compression
aside from that maybe via apps like GroupMe, WhatsApp Messenger? (although they also have to have the app as well)
I wouldn't mind downloading an App to send picture messages but I want it to be similar to google voice in how they allow my contacts to virtually do nothing different. is there a way to directly send pictures to numbers that isn't reliant on a 3rd party app by both sender/receiver? If I have to resort to email that's fine but I'd just like to do everything through phone contacts if it is possible.

Yes you can email to phones. For T-Mobile the addy is usually like this
Code:
[email protected]
The easiest way to get other carriers email would be to have them email to your phone, then you will have their addy aswell.
Code:
[email protected]
Hi all, Just recently picked up the G3 after Trading in my HTC One M8. I'm having issues sending and receiving MMS while my wifi is on when using Evolve SMS. I know that Textra has a work around built in where it turns off Wifi To send the MMS over Data but I don't really care for the look of Textra. I'm not sure if maybe my settings are off with Evolve as when I had my M8 it would send and receive with no problem. Anyone else having issues with this or know of any other 3rd party MMS apps that have the work aroudn built in like Textra?
Thanks,
Believe it or not every phone is different. Download and test. What works for me hasn't worked for others

It depends on the app. I have issues with hello sms, but had them with the Nexus 5 too. Chomp SMS works more reliably, but I never know if I'm missing messages. I've resorted to using hangouts with the SO for images, and use texting for sms only.
Convincing other users to jump on yet another messaging app is always a hassle.

I went back to the stock messaging app because it was the only one that seemed to send and receive everything reliably while on wifi calling mode.
I mean, for one example, Google Hangouts doesn't even offer to resize pictures - and when you have a hard message size limit, that's a deal breaker. (The stock app indicates 1 MB is it.)
I can't appear to directly reply to text messages on the watch for some reason ? I have the option (reply or send to phone) but when I choose reply, all that happens is a green check mark comes up and it doesn't do anything.
Anyone else have this or know what I'm doing wrong?

I have the same issue with the stock messaging app as well. I really want to avoid connecting Hangouts and Texting.. the people I talk to do not overlap at ALL.

Well even with Hangouts set for sms on my Moto X, the watch sends texts using the "Messaging" app. And, touching that app in recent apps sends the message again and again.
Also, sending a text to a number sends it to some inexplicably chosen contact. If they can't get it right with their own phone, I sure others will have problems as well. I have returned mine and will try again next year.
I have exactly the same problem. Did you get that one sorted? Works perfect when voice replying to email but sms with OS messaging software doesn't work.
Any Progress?

you can try textra, hello sms, or some other sms apps.. i recall trying those and i believe they work..
New Google messenger works great
Does anyone else have issues with sending SMS on aosp Roms? I've searched for an answer but can't seem to find what the issue is.
What messenger service are you using? I use hangouts which requires an internet connection. As long as your APNs are set correctly you should be able to send and receive no problem.

Thanks. I use hangouts also but I found what was keeping me from sending SMS. It was voice+, I use Google voice and every time I restored all my apps(google voice included) it would activate voice+ and not allow me to send messages through SMS because of some setting. It wasn't till I restored each app one by one and tested SMS that I figured it out.
Glad I did though.
Folks, I have had some issues since changing to my LG G4 from Apple. My first complaint is that I am part of a group message and have not been getting that, I only saw where someone replied to the original message but I never received that message, also, I've tried to text a customer twice and it just will not go thru yet he is able to text me regulary, can anyone chime in here to explain this to me and how it can be fixed possibly?
thank you

Allow me to recommend Messenger. It is from Google and is my go-to texting app. I've never had any issues with it.
I will try Messenger and see what happens, thanks.
I use Textra with no issues. Just make sure to allow it to be your default messenger application. I've tried a few apps and if you have found that if you have more than one messaging app installed on the phone, all of them will be able to receive texts, only the one you have selected to be your default application will be able to send texts.
