Can't send SMS on AOSP Roms. - T-Mobile LG G3

Does anyone else have issues with sending SMS on aosp Roms? I've searched for an answer but can't seem to find what the issue is.

What messenger service are you using? I use hangouts which requires an internet connection. As long as your APNs are set correctly you should be able to send and receive no problem.

Thanks. I use hangouts also but I found what was keeping me from sending SMS. It was voice+, I use Google voice and every time I restored all my apps(google voice included) it would activate voice+ and not allow me to send messages through SMS because of some setting. It wasn't till I restored each app one by one and tested SMS that I figured it out.
Glad I did though.

[Q] MMS Not sending with WiFi on

Hi all, Just recently picked up the G3 after Trading in my HTC One M8. I'm having issues sending and receiving MMS while my wifi is on when using Evolve SMS. I know that Textra has a work around built in where it turns off Wifi To send the MMS over Data but I don't really care for the look of Textra. I'm not sure if maybe my settings are off with Evolve as when I had my M8 it would send and receive with no problem. Anyone else having issues with this or know of any other 3rd party MMS apps that have the work aroudn built in like Textra?
Thanks,
Believe it or not every phone is different. Download and test. What works for me hasn't worked for others

It depends on the app. I have issues with hello sms, but had them with the Nexus 5 too. Chomp SMS works more reliably, but I never know if I'm missing messages. I've resorted to using hangouts with the SO for images, and use texting for sms only.
Convincing other users to jump on yet another messaging app is always a hassle.

I went back to the stock messaging app because it was the only one that seemed to send and receive everything reliably while on wifi calling mode.
I mean, for one example, Google Hangouts doesn't even offer to resize pictures - and when you have a hard message size limit, that's a deal breaker. (The stock app indicates 1 MB is it.)

[Q] Texting Over Wi-Fi? Also a Question About Google Hangouts?

Hello everyone!
I was wondering if it is possible to text someone just by using your Wi-Fi. I don't have the best of service, so I often get text messages really late. Is there any app that I can use that will allow me to receive messages over Wi-Fi? I've heard about Google Hangouts before, is it a good replacement to use instead of the stock messaging app? Also, what don't you like about Hangouts? Thanks a lot for your answers!

Verizon Messages works great over wifi. Not a bad messaging app either..........

+1 :good:
The above statement is accurate about Verizon messages, not a bad app either. Hangouts works great for video chatting and phone calls over wifi too but if you are just needing messaging, I would go with Verizon messaging as the other user of hangouts would have to have a gmail account. While I realize most people do, now, have a gmail account I have found many people do not want to message in Hangouts.

MMS problems

Is anyone else having MMS issues? I can never get MMS messages to send. Its rather annoying. I've heard of people adding a custom APN but my button to add an APN is greyed out.
The only thing I can do is toggle airplane mode a few times to get the messages to go through but it doesn't always work
Went to the sprint store today and they were baffled.
I have. New update 5/11 should take care of that. If you clear your cache it will take care of it.
Worked great man. Cleared cache on hangouts and MMS service seemed to do the trick

that's what i did after update picture would not go through and text takes a long time to send
cleared app cache and data
all is right in the world with sms
I have had a similar issue and it was fixed by turning wifi off and the message would send
My APN settings can't be edited. It doesn't let me edit, only create NEW APN's. I have my MSL and still cant change my APN settings. I could use the hotspot on the S6 SM-G925P. I'm currently non-rooted due to the recent 5.1.1 Firmware version update. Thanks.
There has always been an issue with sprint phones + Google Hangouts + MMS. For some reason hangouts will only send and receive MMS over data. If you want to test it connect to wifi, try to send an MMS over hangouts (notice that your data icon in the top bar will show). If you have poor data reception your MMS might not even send and the phone radio can get very hot. Now disable hangouts and use the stock messaging app to send an MMS. Notice that the MMS sends fine over wifi and does not activate your data.
I really love hangouts, but the inability to send and receive MMS over wifi is a deal breaker for me. Turning on data every time I get an MMS is a battery killer for me. I doubt Google/sprint will ever address this issue as it has been going on since hangouts released when I had an S2.

My experience has been the same since S2 also. Read all the MMS threads. Tried all kinds of changes to APNs. Most of the time I was running CM and blamed it for the issues. Finally tried Textra to find no problems with MMS. My conclusion was Hangouts. You can follow this Google thread if you have a couple hours to spend. All breeds of Hangouts users with same problem, with very little response from Google. My hope was for Hangouts to be for Android what imessage is to IOS. No such luck, but still hopeful. Until then, I use Textra with no problems.
I've been attempting to use XHangouts and the APN splicing feature to get Hangouts 4 to send / receive MMS through my carrier number, and no dice. Has anyone gotten this working on the Sprint S6? I'd, in theory, love to be able to use Hangouts for both the new Voice group chatting AND normal MMS functions but it seems like I can either downgrade to Hangouts 3 or deal with using another SMS client for carrier MMS.

Google messenger not sending mms with wifi on

H812 on Rogers,
I can't send mms using Google messenger whilst I'm connected to wifi. I can receive no problem however. In order to send I must turn wifi off. Bit of a pain...
Edit: works perfect using stock messaging app.
Anyone else notice this?
Note: I know I can't use wifi to send or receive. That's not an issue.
Some mms apps are not smart enough to switch to cell data to authenticate. See if there is a setting to send via cell

No such setting. Also, stock messaging app has no issues..

New Messages app converts outgoing MMS texts to SMS

Hello XDA,
BACKGROUND
Last night I downloaded and installed the latest OxygenOS OTA (4.0.2) for Nougat 7.0 (stock). I noticed that the Messages (the actual name of app) app was different. It looks like the developers made some enhancements to the Messenger (actual name of the old app) app. I like the look of the new app and thought I'd give it a try. After the upgrade, the old Messenger app was still the default app. I noticed that the Messages app would only allow me to view my texts. In the Messages app, there was a prompt for me to change my default texting app from Messenger to Messages. This allowed me to send texts via the new app.
ISSUE
When sending a MMS message through the latest Messages app, the message is being transformed to SMS. Meaning, my texts get sent out individually to the recipients - even though my Messages app shows my text in a group when looking at it on my phone.
I tried to do some research on Google but could not find a solution. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have your MMS APN installed in your phone? If not, add it manually or request it from your operator and reboot the phone.

Hmm, I would not have thought that the APN would have been reset. It was working prior to the OTA update. But anything is worth a try. I will look into this and get back to you.

I have the same thing going on although not the MMS issue as all my apn settings remained unchanged. I am confused about why I now have the pre 4.0.2 Messenger app and now also have Messages since 4.0.2 update. Why is this and how does it get fixed so I only have one app for sms/mms.
Thanks all!

Jay, are you saying that you were able to use the latest Messages app and still able to send and receive MMS?
I could not get the new Messages app to send/receive MMS. I gave up and reverted back to the older Messenger app. I went into settings>apps>messages and force stopped the application. Then I disabled it. The old Messenger app works fine.

James,
I just was able to receive a picture with no issues. I went into the Messenger app and disabled receiving messages through settings and then made sure Messages was able to receive via settings as well. I didn't do any disabling of apps, etc. I ha entirely used the new Messages app much as of yet but it looks decent.
Anyone have reasons as to why the new update added a new app for sms/mms rather then just replace the previous one?
Hi with your new software update in the messaging app i only recieve text cant send outgoing text.please fix this. I want the old version. I m stuck not being able to send outgoing sms frm my phone.
Thanks poornima
