Hello I have an HTC One M8 from tmobile and I want to root it. I was going to wait until I upgraded to lollipop and then root but from the looks of it, it will take some time until tmobile releases the update. Do you think i should wait until the upgrade and then root? Or should i root then update? How much time do you think it will take for the carriers to release the update?
Thanks in advance

I would think that the update to Lollipop should be hitting us soon. HTC's promise is that the update will be out within 90 days of source code release which was Nov. 4th. Just a few more weeks and we should have it. If you check HTC's software update status site it says that its being integrated, then will need certified and then rollout. The developer/unlocked versions had rollout within a few days of starting certification.
Thanks, so whats the safest method to root the phone? Ive seen an htc quick root tool but is it updated to work with my phone?
Thanks again

I just used fastboot commands since my computer is a Mac and most of the quick tools are meant for windows. I unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev, then installed TWRP then let TWRP root the phone. I then went on to S-Off and flash the GPE RUU and found that I liked Sense better than GPE.
--------------------------------EDIT-------------------------------
I should point out that I am now back to completely stock with S-Off.
I dont know much about rooting but I see people that install cyanogenmod...can I install that? Is it better than the stock m8 OS?

I personally like stock. Cyanogenmod is a AOSP modified ROM and pretty well made based on when I was using it a few years ago. Can't help but expect they've only gotten better. If you move away from a stock sense or a modified sense ROM, you will lose some of the specific features of the phone (proper use of dual lens camera, quick unlock shortcuts, blinkfeed, etc.)

Oh so what can I install if I cant install modified roms? What other advantages i have with root? I know I can have apps like titanium backup and greenify but those things arent that important to me.
Thanks again youve been a great help

Hi guy's
I'm running sense 3.0 and latest Android version from HTC. My phone is not rooted at all, but I would like to root my phone but still keep the update from HTC can I do that I don't want to put any other Rom's on at the moment but may do so in the future.
So can this be done?
If so what would need to do any help would be greatfull, so many things to look at on xda just don't know where to start.
Thanks again guys

You can root your phone and istall a custom ROM with sense 3.0. You can find plenty of room that are basically stock, just rooted, meaning everything is the same like the one you are running now except superuser and busybox have been added.

Hi, guys, I just got the Verizon HTC One today and it came out of box with Android 4.4.2 and Sense 5.5 build no. 3.11.605.1 CL304035 release-keys. I have read through the Android Development forum and Original Android Development forum and I didn't find any tools specific to the 4.4.2 build. Can any of you point me in the right direction? Or is the bootloader and S-Off method still in the works? Please don't tell me that this is going to be like the Samsung devices and locked down forever! Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
As of right now, there is no s-off, bootloader unlock, or root for 4.4.2. But im sure there will be eventually. As i understand it, firewaters exploit was not patched, but the needed temp root method was.

If you got the device from a retail store just go back and try to get a replacement. There's a good bet most of them are not on 4.4
Gotcha(directed to both of you) I'm sure there'll be a method soon, if nothing else moonshine, rumrunner, etc. Will probably just be updated as I figure. I used to have the Droid DNA which is an awesome phone and I used moonshine and loved it. I love those one click programs that does everything for you! I just thought I'd ask because I read through the forums first and didn't see anything and I just wanted to make sure I didn't over look anything. Thank you guys, I appreciate it.

I seen another thread, where jcase said he will released a new method in August.

Almost 5 months for a root method? I feel really bad for those stuck on 4.4 now. I'd just jump to the M8 at that point.
Yeah August is a long way off and sure we will have another update by then which most will take making his exploit useless.

For the most part, beaups was silent before he cracked 4.3 right?
And they can't patch an exploit if they don't know what it is right?

I wish kingo was compatible. I mean I would like to have soff, custom recovery and an unlocked boot loader for custom ROMs but with how smooth and fast the 4.4.2 software is, I would be perfectly fine with just root.

I am thinking about buying a One M8 and I was just wondering if one can install the Google Play Edition on a regular One M8, if I am not happy with the Sense Gui and want a plain Android?
Also what will I be missing, if any, if I install the GPE?
Regards,
BTJ
Yes. You'll lose sense features. There's a couple threads about it already. Xda has a nifty search feature.

This. I'm running this myself and it kicks ass. Every bit as smooth as Sense in my case.
Why are you guys linking a page for GSM phones only in a Verizon m8 section? Has it been moded so you can get the ota updates with the Verizon variants now?
No. But all gsm One m8s can flash any gsm rom. If you change the Cid/mid or supercid and flash stock recovery you can receive otas for the variant you flashed. Though, most devs incorporate the updates from otas into their roms fairly quickly.
Suffice it to say I never really understood people's obsessions with getting otas right as their released.

So whenever an android update is released, there will be a new gpe rom available to download shortly thereafter? Or will there just be an update for the gpe rom?
Thanks
Yes there will be updates, it might be a full rom or OTA, depends on the dev. And normally you get it before it would be pushed from the carrier anyway

Hi guys I just got this phone, I've come from a HTC one s... I'm rooted and use xposed framework at the moment... My question is how do I go completely back to stock? Because the lollipop update is coming soon and I want the ota
Do I need to lock the bootloader or anything like the HTC or run software on the computer to take me back to stock? That's how HTC worked just wondering
Thanks

A simple search would have done the trick. Please search before posting and always remember, Google is your friend. [emoji2]

I've been away from the Android scene for a while and just got a vzw m9 on 6.0. I've rooted and everything before but it's been a while.
I just want to know can my phone be rooted and able to install roms and xposed? If so can someone link a thread with the needed files and info? Thanks
