Having heard about the screen cracking problems and just generally wanting to protect my new excalibur I searched the Net for a good case.
I found several online stores and ebay sellers carrying a Black Aluminum Case, i even found it on amazon and the reviews looked pretty good.
The case is pretty much identical to this one, maybe some of you have tried it.
I really like the way Case protects the screen and the phone in general while allowing access to all the keys, and it doesn't look half bad if a little bulky.
Unfortunately the belt clip fell apart after just 2 days use though thats not such a deal breaker but I have also just realized that the case decreases my signal strength, in some situations by 3 bars. That i cannot live with, it sort of ruins the point of having a hard accessible case if you have to keep on taking your phone out of it every time you want to make a call.
This is the most active Excalibur forum i have found (and stuff you guys develop is awesome) and i was just wondering if you guys could recommend a good affordable case. I have found a black plastic case and a lot of leather/cloth ones but after this bad experience i would like to see what you guys have to say first.

Just use a rubber case, seems to do the job for me and they are fairly cheap on ebay.
For Fathers Day, I got a black/silver carbon fiber case... looks damn sexy with the black wallpaper on Kavanas ROM. No signal probs at all.

Dude, I am dead serious about my phone looking sweet. I can tell you do too, hence the aluminum case. So, here's what you do, go back to ebay and get one of those antenna boosters. It's a freakin strip you put on your battery or something, it's toilet paper thin. It takes up no space. Try it. It might help, and then you wouldn't have to sacrifice the cool case. It's worth a shot.
Plus, unless you have extensively tested this theory. I doubt that your case is making your signal quality go down. Since the signal is transmitted so far away and makes it through so many metallic and non-metallic obstacles, yet your phone picks it up. Now, it does all of that, and you think that a 20th of an inch of aliminum is going to stop the signal. Maybe, but I would try something else before trashing the case. Just an opinion. I have tried it out in numerous situations, there are of course some situations where i get full bars with the case or with out but there are many (including my home) where with the case i will get 1 -2 bars and seconds after taking it out of the case the signal will go up by 2 or 3 bars. Put in the case, wait a couple of seconds and again the down to 1 - 2 bars. I didn't think a thin sheet of aluminium would effect the signal either, maybe its the lining or even the finish on the case.
Don't those signal boosters eat up the battery?

The battery booster idea... yeah. Not happening. Unless you engineer a way to actually improve the phone's internal "antenna" with that sticker (because that's all it is), it's not going to improve anything, but maybe make your battery door wobble less.
The way cell phones transmit their signals is a little different... Our phones don't emit radiowaves with a lot of power. The receiving towers have very high gain amplifiers that amplify these incoming signal VERY much in order to make them usable, and send them out to our phones at a very high power. If our phones emitted with the same wattage, we'd probably have brain cancer in a month. That's why it's important to look at SAR values when shopping for a phone. Our Excaliburs aren't too bad in that category...
You'll notice that ALL mettalic phones have a plastic panel SOMEWHERE on the case. The Iphone for example... black plastic at the bottom. The LG Shine which is all stainless steel, has a plastic cap at the top. These areas is where the antenna "array" is mounted. Why ? Because a mettalic case around it will effectively BLOCK the signal. Our Excalibur's antenna is at the top of phone, so make that area is clear of metallic obstructions in order to get a good signal
Oh and a piece of 1/20 inch aluminum will definitely STOP the signal IF it covers the phone all the way around. It acts like a cage for it. This is why when you open up a phone, you'll see these metal panels over the various radio chips on the phone's motherboard. They're put there to block radio interferance. Now if his case has holes in it, that's where the signal gets in , to the antenna. If those "holes" arent strategically placed, it will make radio waves not reach the antenna at full power, thus making his signal bars drop...
hmmmm.... i use a metal case that completely covers my phone (top included) and i have absolutely no loss in signal strength.... There are currently two types of metal cases for the HTC Excalibur (excluding colors) with minor diffferences between the two:

I have the exact case posted in the opening thread (Monaco with open top). The Dash can move around a little but I am comfortable with this because it helps with screen adjustment depending on your angle of use. I never use the belt clip. I just orient it a certain way and use the original Dash belt holder (extra protection). I like the cool feel of the aluminum vs. the rubbery feel of the Dash. Also unlike the Dash, the aluminum case has little feet to better release sound and help with cooling when lying flat.
In any case I get great signals with or without the case in my area. But I have a friend that has like two levels of screens and mesh on the windows and doors. Kind of like the stuff high tech companies put on the windows to prevent signal theft of computer processors and such. If I open the case inside my signal strength does increase. But I don't complain because many cant even get a signal inside. So I guess it's true that under some circumstances, even the open top aluminum case impedes signal strength.

Guess you've never thought of how a coaxial cable works (Cable TV). The shield on that cable is much smaller than 1/20th in. and it seems to do a pretty good job of keeping foreign signals out.

The case i have is identical to your first link except the back of my case has less holes (top right of the back). I wonder if making some holes in the same area would help.
How do you find the belt clip for the case you bought? Is it hardy enough for regular use?

Did your case not come with a belt clip? Heck i'd give you 2 two i have if you were down the street from me. I don't use them. Not that i hate the reliability, but i'm very skiddish having "my baby" left out in the open to get lost. But if you're didnt come with one, chances are it would work with any variation. The back of both cases i posted have a screw hole in the miggle of the back of it that a metal nub screws into. Thats what lock onto the clip when its on your belt. Without that screw hole or metal nub, you're dead in the water
Oh it came with a clip, and said clip fell apart after a days use :-(. I'm looking at the version of the case you have the clip mechanism looks different.

Well, it would seem that if I want to get a response out of someone, all I should do is say something slightly objectionable, MAN.
A simple no, I don't think that's how it works could have done the job. It's cool I have thick skin. LOL!
I do wanna add, though, that metals do not possess the exact same properties across the board. What I mean is, iron and aluminum are both metals, but aluminum is not magnetic because it is not a ferrous metal such as iron or one of its alloys, steel. I do want to add also, that I understand the radio chip concept and the metal cage placed around it to keep interference out. This does not mean that the chip cage is made of aluminum. I am not saying that it is, but I doubt it. Isn't aluminum used as an antenna for radios? Just saying, you think if it makes a good radio antenna or tv antenna, that it would make a good cellular radio antenna.

Also, I wasn't expecting this kind of a reponse out of you, xticon, oops, xciton. Wow, very insightful. Could you please explain to me the purpose of this "shield" as far as the coaxial cable is concerned. I always thought it was there as a ground or to create a potential difference for the signal. Guess, I am wrong. Could and would you please clarify, since I appear to be retarded. Thanks, buddy!

Belt clips attached to the phone always break or come apart somehow. I'm with Pudgedaddy, I would never leave my baby dangling over the edge like that. LOL
Just a very quick review of my Easecase E5 which arrived about a week ago.

(I did get a bit of a shock when I saw that - that is my actual one - with my name on it, I was just searching for one at random)
Delivery time:
As mentioned in other parts of this forum, delivery times for Easecase are pretty woeful. I ordered on the 25th of November and, it arrived here a few days over a month later in Sweden. The problem seems to be largely that they ship via China Post which is quit slow - they dispatched it (with trackable* shipping) within about a week. I bought it through eBay, so I am not sure if they have another outlet, and, they make it very clear on their eBay items that they will take a looong time to ship, so, I can't take any points off them there.
Build quality:
It is beautifully put together. There's a slot running down the inner spine for the stylus, and my name is embossed on the front. I would characterise it as high quality.
Outside:
I opted for the magnetic clasp. It isn't a very strong magnet, but does the job.
Apart from the clasp, there's just the embossing on the outside, and, a neat seam around the edge.
Inside:
There are 2 bill pockets inside, both of which are *very* deep. They're about as deep as the note is high.
When it is fully opened, there are 5 credit card pockets on the left. Note that these seem to be individual pockets, separated from each other internally. Cards fit vertically into these pockets. The front of the pockets stretches a bit over 2 thirds of the way from the far left of the case to the spine. Behind the pockets is a sleeve about 1/3 wider than the short side of a credit card where you could fold bank notes* (remember this, I'll come back to it.
As I said, along the inner spine is slot for the stylus.
On the right is where the not goes. It slots in (quite snugly) from the top. The top is open, so you can get to the headphone port. There's a hole in the left for the volume control, a hole in the right for the power button, and, a hole in the bottom for access to the USB port.
Looking at the front, the home and hardware buttons are all accessible as part of the screen area. They've also neatly cut out around the top speaker and, the front camera.
Protection:
Very good. If the magnetic clasp doesn't come undone during a fall, then, it'd be very hard to break the screen. It is nice thick leather, and you might even be able to drop a brick on it when closed without breaking the screen.
It still won't help you if you drop it in the toilet as some poor chap here has apparently done.
Usage:
It is very bulky. Like one of those filofax jobs people used to (still?) have.
I'm used to big gadgets, so I cope, but you wouldn't get it into tight jeans pockets. I do squeeze it, with some discomfort into my front trousers pocket.
You don't want to talk on the phone with the cover on for more than brief calls, you look like an idiot. Most of the time I pull it out of the cover for calls, or, use a bluetooth headset.
Using the rear camera requires removing from the cover.
General browsing/emailing etc is fine with the cover on.
Fortunately removing the phone is a fairly quick procedure, as is putting it back it. I imagine it'll get easier still as the leather stretches a touch.
One annoyance is, as the leather reaches right to the top of the touch screen, if the phone slips up slightly, it can be difficult or impossible to pull down the notifications bar. When in landscape, this isn't an issue as the phone can't move left/right in the case.
Summary/thoughts:
I wish I'd bought the one without the bank note pockets. That'd reduce the bulk considerably and you could still stick notes behind your cards (see * above). You can also use the rear facing camera with the non-bank note version (E4).
On balance, I am pleased I bought it though, it is of high quality and, it is great having your phone and wallet all in the one thing - it also means you can ring your wallet to find it when you are in a hurry to head to work
If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
My recommendation for anyone thinking of getting one of these is to get the E4 and not this.
They don't seem to have any E4's on eBay at the moment for the note, but I am sure I have seen one there. Here's one for the Desire HD - I am sure it gets the point across.

Two quick thoughts:
1) When calling, can't you fold the case cover back 180 degrees?
2) Some launchers (adwlauncher does this) allow to swipe down anywhere to lower the notification bar, so you don't need to touch the very top.

No, the banknotes pockets kind of open so it gets more bulky and wants to spring back to about 180 degrees (where 0 is closed, 180 is wide open and 360 is the position you suggest), but I suspect you could with the E4 model.
2) Some launchers (adwlauncher does this) allow to swipe down anywhere to lower the notification bar, so you don't need to touch the very top.

Yes - I read about that setting a while back, but have never used it, thanks for reminding me - it is now enabled for the swipe down gesture (hide dock was annoying me anyway).
Hi, thanks for the review, i've been stuck deciding between the E5 and the E4, due to the E5 having the bill slot, which i would think is really good compared to folding the bills under the cards.
Can you take a picture of the case when it's fully loaded, both open and closed?
e.g. all card slots used, and the bills folded and slotted under the cards
That would probably help sway my decision, if that slot + cards do not bulk up the entire wallet.

the E5 with wallet style slot is definitely too bulky. I bought one for my Desire HD with modified size to fit the DHD with Otterbox. After receiving it, tested once with DHD and sit in my drawer collecting dust ever since.

Ya know I thought the same thing at first, but I just got a pack of 3 extra batteries and I find I can put two of em in the wallet and also a cleaning cloth and everything fits great.
In terms of customizations I wonder if a small bit for some change could be added.

Easecase E5 looks good.
This is a genuine leather case, and very good quality construction. They also responded well to my customization request (I wanted a 65mm horizontal belt loop added to mine).
Only $10 max is out of the question. Worth 3 to 4 times that much. It includes branding of your own name as well. It's a very classy leather case/wallet.
Could you please share a photo were the Note is next to the case just to compare the size of the case?

Im pretty sure the dimensions are about the same but im not so sure about the button placements or the charger placements.
The only thing I dont like is the shipping time but not much I can do about it but this case seems to be the best so far that ive found besides the vintage leather case but those dont come in black and have magnetic strips.
Any reply would be appreciated.
So just to recap - will my US ATT galaxy Note i717 be a good match with this case?

When I dealt with them, I found them quite responsive, I suggest asking them if it'll fit the i717 - odds on if it doesn't they'll have one that does even if they haven't advertised it yet.
Although I haven't seen it, I'd definitely recommend the E4 over the E5 - I find I don't really need the slots for notes (you can slip folded notes in the bit behind where credit cards go anyway) and, it the banknote pockets block the camera (by necessity) which drives me a bit mad.
I'm getting a free Galaxy Tab 3 as a promotion from Time Warner Cable (which I assume is the 7" version based on the statement on their website that says "$199 value") and thought it would be kind of cool to use it for recipes. The idea is that I would use Pepperplate, and use Smart App Protector to keep the screen on while Pepperplate is open. The part I haven't decide on is where to put it. At this point, the most practical thing seems to be to get a case that has strong magnets fastened to the back, which could remain on the tablet at all times, and when I want to use it to cook with I could just slap it on the fridge. But I haven't been able to find any cases that seem to fit this need. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? Or suggestions for a case that may be ideal to Gorilla Glue some neodymium magnets too?
The under-the-counter mounts don't seem to be a good solution because I would like this to be portable when it needs to be. Also, I'd love to hear if anyone has any suggestions on how to implement some method of charging while it's on the fridge, though this is not too important to me and is more of a curiosity than anything else. I was thinking perhaps if the tablet is capable of wireless charging, having magnets around the edge and a wireless charging base on the fridge that would go in the center, then trying to find a way to run the cord along the edge of the fridge door. And if it has NFC (which unfortunately it looks like it may not) perhaps I could have a tag on the fridge that would trigger Pepperplate to launch.
This is all just for fun, but it would be really neat to have some sort of set up where I could just slap the tablet on the fridge and have it do its thing. The biggest priority is finding a case that would be magnetic or easily modified to be magnetic. Any input is welcome. Thanks!

This is all just for fun, but it would be really neat to have some sort of set up where I could just slap the tablet on the fridge and have it do its thing. The biggest priority is finding a case that would be magnetic or easily modified to be magnetic. Any input is welcome. Thanks!

here's how I would do it...
Get yourself a (or 2) cheap TPU cases. I have one called BoxWave. 5-6 bucks.... Ebay or Amazon
A semi flexible stiff rubber (TPU) case that the Tab gets fitted into..just like the supersoft silicone cases, but the TPU material is alot stiffer, but still flexible enough to get it on and off your tab easily..
then get peel and stick magnet strips for any hardware store..Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, True Value, Ace... wherever
Stick the magnets to the TPU case and let them set up for 24 hours before putting the Tab in it and putting weight on it..
if youre scared..
Gorrilia glue will work too.. remember.. it's just a cheap case and worth the sacrifice..
Then there ya go!! slip the Tab into the case and stick the Tab on the Fridge!!!

I was very uneasy about magnets because of two things: the first is that I was afraid they would separate and the other is that I thought I'd need magnets so strong they may damage the tablet. Gorilla gluing them to a case is perfect because it's strong, doesn't damage the tablet, and doesn't require ridiculously strong magnets like I'd need if I had something like a metal plate inside the tablet that the magnets would need to stick to. I wish I'd seen this post a few days ago, because as it turns out I have already started another plan, which I've already ordered the parts for, but I'm strongly considering cancelling my order to give your method a try. The one thing that makes me hesitate is that with the new plan, I've come up with a way to hide the cord, whereas I was unable to think of a way to do this when it's on the fridge.
Here's what I put together: I have a cabinet directly on the left of my stove (as opposed to the fridge which is directly to the right of it). The cabinet starts about a foot and a half off the ground and comes up to about my neck. The idea is to mount it on the cabinet door and hide the cord in the cabinet, and the specifics are as follows. There's no power source inside the cabinet, so I was going to drill an extension cord sized hole in the back base of the cabinet to slip an extension cord into. Then I'd drill another (smaller) hole in the door for the micro USB end of the charging cable. Next, I'd put the power cable together, and it consists of 3 parts. The extension cord, a USB-to-power adapter, and a micro USB to USB flat cable that I've orderd. I ordered a flat one so it can go behind the tablet without being very visible. So once I have cleared a path for the cord and put it together, I'll run the cord from the wall to the hole in the door, and staple it along the edges everywhere in between so it's not in the way. Finally, I'll mount a TPU case on the top part of the door by drilling holes and screwing it in, securing it with hex fasteners on the other side of the door. I've included a simple MS Paint rough draft of what the finished product will look like.
The idea is that it will be mounted on the door, the cords won't be visible, and it will always be connected to a power source (unless I remove it temporarily). I'm not too worried about frying the battery since there are not many instances that would require me to remove it from power so as to rely on the battery. I hate to be so OCD but visible cords are a bit of a bother to me. However, if you have any ideas as to how I may hide them with the method you mentioned I'd be happy to hear them since your method sounds far easier and less destructive, and probably an all around better option if it weren't for those pesky cords! Also, since my tablet hasn't arrived yet I can't check this for myself: (if you have the same tablet) does the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 have NFC capabilities? Yes.. I can see that fastening a tpu case to the cabinet door would work out good... and hiding your cord is a neet way too... too bad that your cabinet door will have to have a huge hole it it behind the Tab...
Maybe mount the TPU closer to the edge and run the Micro USB out of the tab, and a U-turn BEHIND the cabinet door instead of thru it.. your tab will be off center from the cabinet door... but and now remember... it's stuck there. when you pull your tab out.. you'll have an empty TPU case with 4 screws hanging on your cabinet door.
Ive seen stick on magnet strips here about 1"X4".. peel and stick.... I think 4 of those on a TPU case... perfect.. cause you can snatch it off the fridge anytime. carry it away.. stick it to the stove hood..... anywhere.... screwing to a door is semi permanant.. .. Ill go so far as to suggest 2 TPU's... one magnets on the back.. and 1 screwed to the cabinet door.

I do like the fact that your way doesn't involve destroying parts of my kitchen! I'm thinking now that if I find a way to fasten the USB cable to the fridge in a semi-permanent manner it may not be so bad... The cord is white, like the fridge, and with it being flat it may be less noticeable. I wonder how it would hold up with the door being open and closed, as in whether or not it would slide/fall from the repeated movement... This is going to be a tougher decision than I initially thought! At least there's time to figure it out, the tablet won't be here for like 2 months.

WEAK!!!!... I pull my ATT go phone sim out of my phone and jam it into my 315 and BAM!!! an 8" Galaxy phone with data, mms, and voice calls!!!

Please do post results! Sorry I didn't see the reply again, I did subscribe to the thread but I must have missed the email... now it's been a while! Anyway, the 2 month period is just one of the hoops TWC makes you go through to get something free. It will be the 7 inch tablet. I am actually on the phone with them now trying to get them to honor their agreement and it's like pulling teeth. But they are either going to give me a tablet or I'm not going to pay my bill for the next 3 months to make up the difference and I'll buy my own damn tablet! Anyway, I intend to post photos when it's done. I've got everything set up, I just need a table to go in the TPU case.
UPDATE: Just got off the phone with TWC after an hour and 36 minutes, and they told me that they are going to "pass my details to the correct department" and I'd get a call within "3-4 days". Funny, as I pointed out, that was the same thing they told me 8 days ago, after another equally long phone conversation. Anyway, to sum it up they are giving me a credit equal in value to the tablet and I'm debating between the Galaxy Tab 3 (7 inch), which was what the promotion originally offered, or the 2013 Nexus 7. The Nexus has gotten great reviews, is there anything about the Galaxy Tab that you'd recommend over the Nexus? I know I'm kind of getting off track here but I'm just curious.

well... after you vacated the thread, I figured you lost interest or just decided to drill holes in your cabinet door..
So, I didnt get any magnets.. BUT I will get them this weekend.. maybe tomorrow... Id like to shoot a video of it stuck to the fridge while opening anf closing... how to post it though??

well that looks pretty cool, now that sits right in the middle of your cabinet door? How did you mount the case to the door, I don't see any screws on the backside of the case that went through the cabinet door with I'm guessing nuts on the other side..I will look for the magnets today at to hardware stores on the way home from work

Thanks! It's actually a flip-cover case, so the screws are in the cover part, which is flipped over behind it. then I drilled a small hole for the micro USB cable and ran that along the edge of the inside of the cabinet. Now that I'm debating getting a Nexus 7 instead (TWC just gave me a credit to my account in the amount of the tablet, so I have up to $200 to go toward any tablet I want at this point) I'm considering using a wireless charging pad so all I have to do is place the tablet in the case, though not sure if that would work through a case. Still playing with ideas, and if I do the Nexus 7 then I'll need a new case, but thankfully, they're cheap!

Now, my fridge finish is textured and not smooth. Kind of like a course orange peel,
So I think the grip was not as strong as if it were a smooth surface. If I were to keep this, I would go with a 1 inch wide magnet instead of a half inch which was $1.59 for 30 inches X 1/2".

Looks great! When you say the grip isn't as strong, I'm wondering, did it slide at all when you opened and shut the door? I didn't see any movement the first time you shut the fridge door and it didn't seem to be in a noticeably different location so I couldn't tell if it did, but that's my primary concern with the magnet method, so if it stays in place then that looks like a perfect solution.
On another topic, what app are you using for the dialer? As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), the tablet itself does not come with a dialer, and that was something I was planning on looking into down the road - particularly one that can be used with Google Voice. So my questions are 1) what is the name of the app and 2) does it allow Google Voice capabilities? I know that Google Voice is going to disable third party apps that use its service in a few months, but in the mean time it would be cool to use it to make calls.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to make the video, and I really like how you have it set up.

Like I said that my fridge has a textured finish, so the mags were not getting a solid grip.
It DID stay up there. I even shut the fridge door hard once to test it, but, I'm suspicious, so IF,
IF, I were to do this set up on MY fridge, I would double up on the mag area. & yes, It did NOT move when I had it, just that I wouldnt do it full time without doubling up on the mag area..
My SM-T315 8" Tab came with the Samsung dialer installed.. ya see... It's actually an 8 inch galaxy phone.
Does everything the phones do just in a larger screen.
It has a sim card slot... I take the sim out of my smaller phone (ATT) and slide the sim into the tab 3 8" and BAM!!! The tab is now my phone...
Phone , data plan, mms, everything now comes to the tab with my same number. No need for google voice.
it cost a bit more than the wifi only ones sold at the brick and mortars here in the USA, but, I like the phone and mms features.

That's nice that it works as a phone out of the box. I use Google Voice as my primary number, which is a pain sometimes, but I like the fact that I can answer it from my mobile, my home phone and my computer, and when I call out from any of those it also shows the Google Voice number on caller ID to the person I'm calling (for the home phone, this is through Ooma Telo). Wish I could have the tablet work the same way in case it's closer when the phone rings. Did you have to order that through a special online service, or can you find that version on Amazon?

Maybe not Amazon.. I know they had the 311 which is the same but NON-LTE.... E bay has a bunch..
I got mine and all my international stuff from Negri Electronics. They operate in Las Vegas. Very good store and after the sale customer relations.

The nexus is a newer version of android but the galaxy has a SD card slot. A big plus in my mind.

I agree that removable storage is nice, but I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker for me because of the fact that I can get something like a Meenova to easily add more storage if I need to. At this point I'm leaning toward the Nexus because for this purpose, wireless charging capability seems more beneficial than removable storage simply due to the fact that it would be cool to not have a cord showing when it's mounted, and to not have to plug it/unplug it every time I want to take it down for a bit. Of course, the flip side is that instead of seeing a cord, I'd see the Meenova sticking out of it, but that doesn't seem as bad since I probably wouldn't need to have one in there all the time. Either way, I do appreciate the suggestion and I will certainly take into account the capability for removable storage when making my choice. Thanks!
I've spent the better part of the week scouring for good s8+ cases that would be compatible with wireless charging and in the end I've hodge podged pieces into a frankencase
seeing as I'm probably going to make myself a case I thought I'd share the elements of what I was looking for and ask if I'm just crazy for wanting so much or if I'm not alone.
I don't need much coverage, mostly the corners and a raised edge in case it does fall but otherwise I'm not concerned with protecting the fronts and backs given how rarely I drop my phone if I've got an actual grip on it no thanks to the slippery materials they use
I'd like direct access to my buttons, many cases have their own button that pushes the actual button, I've never enjoyed this as it's usually stiff or hard to press and often hard to distinguish from the case itself
wireless compatibility is a must for me given the fact I'm not only on the road most of the day but I'm constantly in and out of the vehicle where I'm definitely not leaving my phone that I'll probably actually need, and having to work a harness gets annoying during regular use imagine 30+ times a day
this means something magnetic so it sticks in place like the airdock 2 which I have no idea if it's compatible with s8+ or not as of yet
getting back to the in and out I need a hip holster because I spend way more time texting and taking photos of job sites than talking so a headset is less important than not having to fish for my phone
lanyards are just good ideas, why is it so rare to find them let alone on a rugged case?
a kickstand doesn't have to be complicated either and doesn't need an entire phone length if you know what you're doing with it, spigeon has a nice stick on that generally gets the job done, or even those ring mounts double as kickstands and great dash magnet mounts
who puts a card holder behind the case right in the magnetic field of wireless charging? it's called a folio cover geez, even those work as kickstands in a pinch as flimsy as they are in that capacity.
granted with all the mobile payment options these days you generally don't need to worry about a card in the first place so it's coming time to uncouple those two
and on a side rant why are we still using adapters and converters for magnetic break away cables? shouldn't this be standardized by now?
I'm going to sketch up the case I'm thinking of and post back maybe you guys can tell me why it's such a ridiculous idea to have.
I wanted the equivalent of an iBolt with a wireless charger in the end I wireless charge at home and use a magnetic power connector on the car.
All the ones I found only gave portrait and I preferred to use landscape

I'm looking to buy still, just got my s8+ a couple weeks ago, with the unveiling of the note8 I almost took it back

not sure I want to have to add in something to a case to make it compatible I'd rather the case be compatible to begin with, many magnetic chargers work just fine without add ins

basically just imagine some time on the dremel to cut out everything covering up the back as much as possible except maybe leaving a bit near the edges
if I have the ring it'll be near the power button
and the kickstand will be probably above the camera or down by the fcc text, very small chance I do it vertical by the bixby button
pair it with a belt clip, and maybe something like a folio cover under the screws if I do feel like having cards
if I can do this with existing parts and a dremel why can't one of these case makers?
I'm trying to figure out how I would do a swivel like the ring but with something as long as a kickstand for more angle options, found one custom stent on a case that could work, not sure yet if that's how I want to do it?
figured it out, answer is no kickstand, there's 3 places I legit need a kickstand and I can just get stands and put them there
apparently there isn't much of a phone case modding scene I can find.... does everyone just live with the cases they buy? can't everything be improved with some ingenuity?

Looking to truly make my phone waterproof but usable for the times I'm kayaking or playing near the water. I use off brand cases before with my LG and they worked great. Poetic made one but now the OP7 pro seems to have ZERO support for waterproof cases as of yet. Anyone see one or have anything? No not a plastic zip lock bag.

I looked at those it's the first thing that comes up when you Google waterproof case for this phone but please let me know where it actually shows being completely sealed and "waterproof" cause truly they don't show that at all.
I would love one too, but I think due to the pop up selfie camera it isn't possible to make one fully waterproof. (well I guess they could build out a pop area that is always there and the camera pops up and down. This pop up camera is a nice way to solve the cut out/bezel issue but really prevents case designers from making one that completely seals the phone.

I could care less about the pop up camera while I'm in areas that I would like to use a waterproof case truly. But I do see your point but it's still the users option to use it or not
If Kayaking seal it in a zip lock bag, or one of those special waterproof bags marketed for stuff like waters ports especially scuba diving.
Do they make waterproof fanny packs?
I guess if I was playing near water I probably just wouldn't have my phone on me at all?
Might come across as unhelpful, or bad attitude, but that really isn't my intent. If you gotta have your phone with you in dangerous watery situations, the 7P doesn't seem like the right phone?
There are YouTube videos (or at least one) that show a 7P being dropped in a glass of water and living. I've also read Oneplus put it through to paces for the certification, but didn't pay for the certification. Suggesting it does better than seems logical with that camera.
Maybe you could get a case that otherwise seems right for your activities, and use some waterproof RTV to seal the camera hole in the case? They make it in many colors, including clear, black, and grey, so it might blend in. It would eliminate the selfie cam while in case but you said that doesn't bother you.
