[Q] How do I make my own build of CM12? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using the F400 variant and tired of LG software. I've wanted to switch CM for a long time already but I don't see any builds to show up in the near future. I want to make my own build. Tired of waiting. I know I made it sound like it is easy to build a custom ROM. I have neither experience nor knowledge in making ROMs.

There are tutorials in the development section...
My advice to you is to read them and try. There is no easy answer to your question that will have you up and running in a few minutes

Galaxy Tab3 7.0 Development

Just to get a head count. How many supporting developers do we currently have for this device here? I was considering myself to start developing for this device soon as I see it has potential once rooted. I see we have some good support for kernel development and Recovery development and roms on the low side.
Id like to see firmware from the 8.0 or Note be ported over so that was gonna be my goal once I finish things up that im currenlty working on.
Any ideas for us to build on?
it has some good roms about 4 roms but all are stock with some modifications the real roms start when cm10/10.1/10.2 port arrive and already some devs are trying to create one only some time needed then the roms will increase aokp cm pac pa and the cpu is unknown or something like that so it is hard but not impossible.
There is a semi-active development thread for CM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466040
Any help would be appreciated, I'm just getting started and there seem to be few experienced CM-devs for our device (at least judging by the activity of the thread)
Unjustified dev said that there are few missing files need for cm 10.1/10.2

New to Android

Hi guys, need your help. I am coming over from the iPhone. Just ordered a used S3 for my first Android phone and very excited.
It should arrive this week and I would like to have it rooted. I would like to also install the latest stable Cyanogenmod release for this phone. Is it 10.2?
I have never rooted a phone or loaded any roms. I am having trouble finding the CM rom that's the latest most stable one. I just see a bunch of different names and have no clue which one I need. Can you guys recommend something?
Can someone point me in the right direction? I would like something quick, good battery life, and good for a daily driver. I saw a youtube video that showed Cyanogenmod as most closest to stock and very stable.
I would really appreciate your help. thanks in advance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
That's a one-stop shop for S3, rooting and flashing custom recovery. Check that thread and follow the instructions there. You need to root your phone first and then flash a custom recovery like TWRP, before you can flash Custom ROM's like CM 10.2
Yes CM 10.2 is the latest version of CM with Android 4.3. CM 11 with 4.4 Kitkat is also in for S3, but dont expect it to be stable.
Also, release that there are lots of ROM's based on CM source, so they should work fine too. There are other very good custom ROM's like Carbon, Paranoid Android etc which offer unique features, while there are hybrid ROM's that combine features from all these. You need to try different ones to see what works best for you.
Also, refer to this video and others from that channel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJss1_dZZeY
I suggest you take time to read, then take time to try all the roms here, as they are all good.
As we do not encourage arguments over which rom is best or is "most stable" I am going to close this thread, please take time to read what is being offered in the development areas, and welcome to android phones.

Noobish question, but how does an Official build differ from an Unofficial? IE, CM12 vs DU, is DU considered Official because it is unaltered AOSP?

if i'm not mistaken, official builds are done and maintained by a group member from the developing team of any given rom. Unofficial builds are done by any member who does not belong to the developing team and who decides to build any given rom. Also i believe that any lines of code used are not officially submitted and supported and any support would have to be done by the unofficial rom builder and not the developing team.
hope this makes sense and helps in any way.

My last phone was running CM 7.3 Gingerbread, so please bear with my noobness. I'm not big on flashing new ROMs. I like to find a daily driver and run with that.
Right now, I'm trying to decide which ROM to try after stock. I'd like to get rid of a lot of the bloatware and gain more customization. I've heard great things about your ROM in the past on other phones, so am leaning towards it.
Things I absolutely want:
HDMI/Slimport out. I don't know if this feature is ROM specific, or if the G3 does it automatically thru hardware. It works great on stock.
LG's IR Controller apps. I like that the G3 has the IR feature. I have it programmed to replace all my remotes currently.
I'm with MetroPCS. They use TMobile's towers. Should there be any problems (I haven't seen anything on this in search for the 851 and don't think it would be, but thought I could ask people smarter than I).
Do those features work on your ROM? If not, does anyone know what ROMs those features/apps are functioning?

Do not ask about other ROMs, this is NOT the thread for that, flash and find out, you don't like it? Uninstall it, it's simple. Also, regarding asking about if d851 supports METRO, ask the carriers, not in this, this is for the ROM questions, nothing else, please keep the OT to the minimum
Oh, I am sorry. I thought I was in the Q&A thread, not the developer section. Oh wait, I am.
I apoligize for asking about other ROMs... but asking about this specific ROM in it's specific Q&A thread?
Yeah. Replies like yours will definitely keep a lot of stuff to a minimum. Keep up the good work.

freezes
For some reason it freezes when doing heavy task. For example on the web or listening to music it freezes and the system slows down to the point where lock screen takes about a minute to lock. A simple reboot fixes the problem. I am coming off a Clean flash but stock kernel.
Anyone have any luck with using a slimport out to HDMI on this ROM?
Just checking...
I've got a Lg G3 D851 (32GB) but its not the T-mobile version. Does this still mean that I can flash this rom? Or is there anything else I should do?
Can't wait to use this rom so reply as soon as you can people.

I'm kinda new to all this so please don't mind the 'noob' questions. I was under the impression that its not a TMO version if it doesnt say T-Mobile on the phone. :silly: Thank you though, will flash rom right away.
One more question... Is this a stable version of the rom or a test version? Cuz I couldn't figure out which one it is; stable or test version.

Just installed the rom and its awesome. Just one problem, the Bluetooth doesn't seem to be working properly. Can't connect my smartband. Whenever I try to turn off Bluetooth I get an error saying that Bluetooth has stopped working. Any solutions?

Nope... I'm 100% sure I did a clean install. Did a clean install again for a second time around 30 minutes ago... still no luck.
It's probably a BT LE device. If you read the last page or two of Bliss Pop or Resurrection you'll see they have issues. Probably something in the base code. I know the Bliss Pop dev says he might have a fix but hasn't released an update.

*I would also like to know the opinions of other testers and devs for this question.
Nobody is going to help you with this question because the point is for you to try the rom yourself. Do some research, bite the bullet and start flashing any and every rom until you find one that suites your needs.
Oh, I think some people might be willing to help, the problem is, your question is to nebulous. You need to give more information.
First the easy stuff.
Newest? Look at the dates of the threads or go to the main thread on ROMs, it usually lists the latest updates. Unless you are taking about the newest version of android (like Lollipop). In that case, look for a higher number. Kit Kat is 4.4,: Lollipop is 5.0
Most Stable? Get a rooted version of rooted Kit Kat stock. It was made specifically for the phone and will likely be most stable
Best? I want slimport out, USB otg, working Bluetooth, and stable. I went with a debloated version of rooted stock (10r version). That is currently the "best" for me. You might want speed, even less bloat, more customization, etc. Your best is going to be different than others.
Give us more details and people can help you. A blanket request for "best" is not enough to go by.
Good luck!
You're not going to get more stable than stock based. I'd be using that if I didn't care about open source and possible spying. Right now I've got PACMAN 4.4.4 without GAPPS with minor issues I can live with but am getting tired of. Might try Carbon next or something.
Avoid anything 5.0 based for now, as it really doesn't feel ready yet.

Rooting can be daunting if you are not confident and knowledgeable about modding your phone. As always, there is a risk when installing custom ROMs.
But with success, the G3 rocks! Good luck!

Just bought a G3 -D855 need some help on where to start - coming from Samsung S5

Hello!
I just bought a G3 D855 (arrives next week), and I don't know where to start. Should I start out with the stock experience? Should I go straight into the AOSP arena? I'd love some insight where possible. Coming from Samsung and Touchwiz I wonder if the LG skin is as annoying?
If someone could recommend a stock rom to start with that would be awesome or offer any insights I would really appreciate the help! - Looking around the CloudyG3 V2.5 looks promising -
I don't yet know what rom will be on the device - I believe it will be 4.4.2. Should I do an OTA update to Lollipop or what would be ideal? Just root and flash?
Finally which method to root? The one click method by avicohh? Is there another I should try?
Apologies for all the noob questions - just want to do right by my new hardware!
Thanks in advance for any insights!

If you want a best camera quality with ois working then stock based rom is best for you.If you love simplicity & ready to give up LG features then use CM or AOSP based roms. Its your personal preference.LG G3 camera hasn't been ported to cm or aosp based roms yet..Its your personal preference. You can use cloudy rom if you want g4 touch with slight modifications over stock lollipop. On the other side there are many LG UI themes are available in store. Those are pretty cool. You can try it out.
If you want to root then use this software as this is the easiest way..

Wrong Section
Also a self help thread should not be created in the development forum since this section is dedicated to discussion most closely pertaining to roms and development in general and so a mod can help you out here.
And while we're at it, you might need give the roms a try before finding what exactly is best for you. CM or stock both work equally well. In general view I prefer stock since it's better at times in terms of stability and other software features. CM has been a hit and miss for me. Previously used to own a Note 3 till it got jacked out of my pocket. Worked pretty well on that but I prefer stock on this.
Generally speaking the phone's a good combination of power and aesthetics. You won't regret your stay here since there's so much to do especially since the bump root. Have at it and feel free to ask any questions.
