i found a deal this morning on a 64GB USB stick...i have an OTG cable and using StickMount accessing USB storage works, but the largest stick i had to try it on was 16GB
does anyone know if a 64GB stick will work?
also - on LiquidSmooth 1.4, when i unmount the usb storage it also unmounts internal storage and i need to restart the phone...if you use a ROM which does not require a restart and using StickMount, please let me know which one it is
It probably will, but if it doesn't, just format the USB stick to have two 32 GB FAT32 partitions.
Don't know about the second part tho.

Stickmount working with 64GB flash drive
Just went through all this, and found that if I used a 3rd party disk formatter (in my case Easus) I could format a 64gb flash drive as one 64gb partition, and read it on my Nexus 10 with StickMount.
That 32GB limit is just Microsoft BS. And both exFAT32 and NTFS did not work; even though they mounted, the drives appeared empty on the Nexus.
I've been using a 64GB USB flash drive with my Galaxy Nexus for quite a while and it works very well. StickMount was having trouble with UTF-8 characters when the drive was formatted as exFAT, so I re-formatted it as NTFS using a Windows 7 computer and now all is well. It's formatted with a single partition. Note that I'm still running under Android version 4.1.2. I haven't wanted to deal with the Bluetooth issues I've heard about when using 4.2.1. As far as I know, StickMount is working with 4.2.1, though it may still have some quirks that people are working around.
I tried exFAT (formatted using TWRP and via Windows 7 built-in GUI format) and my N7105 running cm10.1 (2013-Apr-22 nightly) won't recognize my microSD. I'll be trying FAT32 in a bit (no access to a computer right now).
thanks!
Fat32 is the way to go, unless you actually need to store > 4gb files on your phone. It's actually a tiny bit faster than exFat.

Hello there everyone!
I recently got a Tab S 8.4 (t-700) with 16 GB, and found out that the internal storage is not enough when you want a decent amount of apps and games. My question is that any of you got Link2SD working (without a custom ROM)? I rooted my tab and then put TWRP recovery (I wanted CWM, but haven't found it for this tab) on it, partitioned my 32 GB Samsung SD card (1st partition ~24 GB FAT32, 2nd partition ~8 GB ext2/ext3/ext4 (tried all of them) with EaseUS Partition Master, and MiniTool (tried both of them)), and all I get from Link2SD is "Mount Script cannot be created. mount: Invalid argument). Does anybody know how to solve this? I tried partitioning with TWRP but I get "device not found" error when I try to start the partitioning, even thought the SD card is mounted and FIle manager can use it. I also tried to look for this problem on the googles and the forums, but 90 % of threads are +2 years old and not really helpful.
Every bit of help is appreciated.
I am on iron rom which is an stock based rom with a few mods. I formatted my sd by going to into settings>general>storage and scroll down till you see format sd. Of course i didnt need to do that as my sd card was already working. Hope this helps
Thank you for your response, but my question was not how to format my SD card. The SD works fine if I want to use it normally without partitioning. I want to make it work with Link2SD.
Doing this worked for me. I formatted my sd with this and it worked fine with linktosd but I have no idea why yours wont work. Sorry
Formatting the SD card in the settings will create a single FAT32 partition on the card. What I'm trying to do is make 2 partitions on the SD card (which I have already done), and mount one with Link2SD, because most apps won't work or move a very little amount of Data to the SD when it's normally formatted. Link2SD has the ability to mount an ext2-3-4 formatted partition, so the apps work with it. I just can't figure it out why it won't work with mine, and asking if other people who has tried the Mounting method has any experience. The "native" method of moving apps to the SD with Link2Sd does a different thing and that's not what I'm trying to accomplish.
EDIT:
Here is a relatively old guide of what I'm trying to do: LINK
Hey, im also having that same problem with my tab s 8.4, i have tried creating ext2, 3 and 4, and even fat32, but none works, did you manage to find a way to make it work??
thankss
Did you ever get Link2SD working? I had it working on my Asus TF700 by using GParted to partion my sd card and everything worked perfectly. Do not know what the difference is but everyone said I had to use GParted.
Just create an ext2 partition on your sd card and link2sd will detect it. I've had it working with link2sd plus.
What's the problem?

You need to use the latest version from play.
I'm already using the latest version of Link2Sd but still not working.
I am also looking into using an SD card to move apps to via Link2SD....also on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (10.1 wifi version)
Good to know someone tried this recently
Have you tried using gparted to partition the SD card? A lot of the stuff I ran into online recommends this as the partitioning tool. I have worked with linux before doing more "advanced" stuff like this with android and it's a great tool for many platforms (also it works, unlike other partitioning programs I have used prior to it)
Will keep checking back here and will also let you know what happens when/if I try to do this...

Is it official, already patched or have you attempted to patch it?
If so then it wont work. I know it works.

You can use any partitioning tool that handles ext2,3 or 4.
Minitool partition wizard is good for this on Windows.

Does the format we use (ext 2, 3 or 4) matter for Link2SD?
Does it need to be the same as the original file system of the tablet itself? (in this case the Tab S)

@therajatshahare: I was able to use Link2SD with two different SD cards. ON both of them, I was able to use Link2SD to move the app + lib + dex files of several applications (including several games and Facebook) to and from the SD card with no issue.
The only issue I had was when I unmounted my previous SD card (because it wasn't partitioned), two of my apps did not work and I had to reinstall them through Google Play.
I also bought the full version of Link2SD so that I can move even the app data to and from the SD cards as needed
@ashyx: Also, I had no issue partitioning the SD card using Minitool Partitioning in Windows. Again, I partitioned two cards using this windows app, both of them with roughly half the space formatted to ext2, and the other half as FAT32.
So.....no issues from this end. Tested successfully and working as intended

Hello,
I have a 3 TB external drive (seagate) and the new update from Amazon that allows you to connect via USB . I formatted my drive to Fat32 using a 3rd party Program because windows 8.1 I guess only allows you to format in exFat but I need fat32 right? no matter what though EXfat or Fat32 I only have 299MB of 299MB its not seeing 3TB. does anyone know what I am doing wrong here? Also what can I do to move the app+data to my External HDD say for a games I download from Amazon. the whole point is to be able to move game data thats what the people want....well that and downloaded content. Anyway is there an app that moves data and app or just data without root?
Thanks,

You probably have a hidden partition on the drive. See here for more info: http://www.aftvnews.com/what-to-do-if-the-amazon-fire-tv-only-sees-197mb-of-a-usb-drive/

I did have one thank you! I ended up using a this link here witch tells you how to delete hidden partitions http://www.brighthub.com/computing/hardware/articles/72858.aspx but i would not have known without your help. after that I used this http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm to turn it into Fat32 but the Highest it does is 2TB witch it a lot honestly for fat32.
Now all I need to know is how to move my application data to an external drive to free up space without root???
I have a 2 TB external drive (slim) and the Fire TV formatted it by itself.
Is this possible? I have searched and all I could find was a guide to use a USB device as internal storage on the AFTV 1st gen.
I would like to use my AFTV2 for games (San Andreas, Emulators etc) but as everyone knows, once the data files are there for example, with GTA, most of the space is gone.

I currently don't have a fire tv 2 to test but this weekend I was having issue writing to external sd on rooted amazon fire tablet running fire nexus rom (lollipop). It requires xposed and you might need play services (not sure).
I used xinternal sd xposed mod then installed sdfix by nextapp from playstore. Not only could I write to sd but now I can put apps+data on external.
***But this is Fire OS you're using so the results might differ. Definetly worth a try unless someone has a better/easier method.
***Also I can't be certain it wasn't one or the other (sdfix or xinternal). Might just be one of them that solved my issue but since there were no ill effects I'll leave it as is...

You can use your USB (HD) for media only as for apps they can only be transferred to the SD card, this info if for firetv2 only.
If I remember correctly, FolderMount is what your after.
I think you can do it with an xposed module (obbonsd?) as well but I don't know how well it works on the AFTV2 though.
I only played about a little with FolderMount on my HUDL and it worked fine. I linked the obb folder to my external micro SD for game files and it worked fine.
