[Q] Does App2sd function really work? - Sony Xperia M

Hi all, I have installed cm12 with App2sd function on my Xperia M (C1905) and although I get a message for successful movement to the ext card, nothing seems to work as my available internal storege still reduces with every install. Also, if I set the external sd card as the default install location, I get the famous "insufficient storage available" when trying to install big apps although I have more than enough free storage. Clean Master also says "Your device storage and internal SD card are the same, so moving is unnecessary" and google camera's option for saving photos to the external card is also dissapeared.
Despite all these, if I remove the sd card while having applications installed in it, the apps cannot open (popup: app not installed). It seems like the apps are indeed installed in the sd card but my phone believes they are in the internal(?)
Is there something I can do about this? I use a 32 gb fat32 sd card, but I have tried ext4 and ntfs too, with no result. I also can't mount a 2nd partition (if any) with Link2sd.

App2sd works but...does not move complete data...
I feel temp files, apk, and cache still remained in internal sd.
Link2sd if far better...than this...

Oh I see… Unfortunately I can't get link2sd to work for me :/ Do you know if storage swap works on lollipop?
Thanks for your help!

Hey,
The app2sd problem in 10.01 fxp is fixed..
Flash the boot.img in this file using flash tool
http://www.mediafire.com/?cpklvyh374193qw
And no swap method is available for lollipop yet.
Link2sd ll work only if you have two partitions...
Try like this, one partition with fat32 and second partition with ext4 . Good Luck

[Q] How do you guys deal with the limited (2GB) USB Storage?

Hi all,
I know that Samsung likes to mount the external SD Card at "sdcard/external_sd" and uses it's built in space as the "SD Card" when viewed by the OS/applications for the purposes of installing applications/data.
For a phone which is powerful enough to play some decent games which have large data files this is a huge problem because the USB Storage fills up after installing only a couple of games with no option to move the data to the real external SD Card.
I have tried "Directory Bind" and it actually does work with the stock ROM, until I plug the phone into the computer and mount USB Storage. The phone barely enters USB Storage mode and right away the directory binding is broken until the phone is rebooted, with the SD Card sometimes not remounting on its own.
My question is, is there a way to install applications to the external SD Card? Is this a problem with the custom ROMs like Arco's CM9 or any of the derivatives? Is it to do with the partition structure? Can this be fixed or are there other applications I could try besides Directory Bind?
Thanks

You could try to move the apps you installed to the external SD by using app2sd. Download it from the playstore

Hi there, if you're running a custom rom like cm9, you have a really useful option.....
Goto settings>>storage press menu and select storage configurations....then 'check' the box.....this basically swaps the storage volumes and uses your external SD as internal storage.....you will have to reboot your phone so that the change takes effect.....
CM9...I don't HAVE to.....I just.....can..
Swapping your storage, it is the simple way to deal with that kind of this problem.
And just for your information, using the directory bind will preventing your phone to enter the deep sleep, so it will drain your battery much faster than you don't use that application.

App2SD doesn't work well for me on stock ROM, moves data from USB storage to... USB storage
Thanks switched from modified GB 2.3.6 based ROM to CM9, as much as I hate CM9 performance wise it's working exactly as described, all application data is now on external SD card! Thanks
Thanks you guys, this has been of HUGE help to me seeing I'm new to all this android stuff. I'm really glad I loaded CM9 on my phone now, finally I can use my 16gb sdcard easily
Just one last question, now that my external_SD is actually my SD_card,if I were to restore to factory settings or return to my default ROM,will all the data on my external sdcard (SD_card) be wiped out?

Nope it won't. If you wipe data and restore factory settings your sd card won't be deleted. Unless you format your external sd which is refering to your sd card

It won't get deleted because it's just symbolic mounting location placed within the phones file system but it doesn't hurt to keep a rolling backup of your SD card somewhere else (once when changing ROMs on my Xperia Play I lost about 2/3 of all photos on my SD card, it was a freak random bug but was devastating).
Also note that different ROMs store photos from the camera in different locations which can be a bother for some gallery applications (having to go through folders). If you're using the default setting of storing photos from the camera or music/downloads on the internal 2GB "SD card" then this data will be erased with a factory reset
With GB, I installed Bionic Cow 2; out-of-the-box it swapped Internal & External SD, allowing me to use my 16GB Class 10 microSD as "sdcard".
For good measure, I partitioned the microSD into 2; the 1st as FAT32, the 2nd as ext2. Then I installed Link2SD to help clean up the 'internal storage'.
With ICS (CM9), it's much easier. After *completely* wiping the phone ( /system, /data, /cache, internal SD, and external SD), after 1st boot of CM9, I go into System Settings and swap the internal / external SD, and immediately rebooted.
On CM9, I *still* partition my microSD to enable Link2SD.
Keeping 'internal storage' less than 50% used makes my phone zooooooooooom

[Q] Move apps from phone storage to USB storage (internal sd card)

Hi,
I have Android 4.1.2 and trying to move apps from phone storage which is only 2GB to USB storage (11.25 GB). But for every app, movable or not when I try to move - hit the "move to sd card" button- . It says "unable to move app. Note enough storage space".
I don't have external SD card right now and I only want to move them to internal. Do you know what can I do?
Thanks

All the roots apps are for moving apps only to external sd card and to change the default storage location to either internal storage or external sd card. None have the option to change it to internal USB storage.

See idk because when I do app to SD on my ROM it goes to my USB storage, which is the internal SD card, 11.9gb, not to my external SD card I have to manually put the apps on external if I want so theoretically it should be putting them there by default, what ROM are u on? Are u rooted? Ever use an app like storage swap or anything? Shouldn't be installing apps in ur system partition, 2gb, that should only be for system apps..?

What I'm saying is I don't know because ur system, no matter what shouldn't be installing user apps in the system partition, my best advice would be to back up what u want from the phone and use Odin to do a complete wipe and unroot to stock 4.1.2 ROM, this will erase all data on the phone and restore it to stock status, from there u can reroot and use TB to get ur apps back, somewhere along the lines it sounds like ur system got confused or something because it shouldn't be putting anything in that 2gb partition, that's only for system and system app data not user, that's the whole reason to have it partitioned off, if it was me that's what I would do, just start over and see if that was it, sorry wish I could help more but I don't have ur device in front of me so I don't know

Thanks for your reply. I have mounted an external sd card and using link2sd to move apps to it. One thing I noticed that with sd card mounted, when I move apps to external sd card, some part of the app moves to the usb storage and also the app size increases after doing so. However, still there is no direct way of moving/installing apps to usb storage without an external sd card.

Actually, the options under Apps2SD in Rom Toolbox Pro are: 1) Auto, 2) Internal & 3) SD card!!
So? anyone could finally move the apps to the INTERNAL memory (those almost 12 GB) and not to the real external SD card?

I tried to use ROM Toolbox's app manager to move apps to the famous "internal SD" of the GS2.
When I move apps to SD (without an actuel SD card), I get no error but the app seems to have simply vanished from the phone with no memory actually freed on the system partition. Does someone understand what happens ?

What is your ROM? Most of my apps go to internal sd storage. The only apps that are on internal are system/came with ROM. I do believe data resides internally on the 2gb partition, but rest is on internal SD. Perhaps, you need a fresh install.

Because I am sure I am not clear, internal partition = 2gb phone storage/internal storage, internal SD = 11.29 GB SD that resides on phone. My apps are going to internal SD when I select SD in ROM toolbox options, NOT to the removable external SD card I put in my phone
The problem with other app2sd apps is that they try to install to external SD, hence why your apps disappear, (for those apps, you need ext SD partitioned with iirc ext4). Try romtoolbox first, open, go to configure apps2sd, and it should recognize your onboard SD card)

Well, it is possible it is the stock ROM. You could try a
factory reset in your custom recovery and see what happens or full wipe and install a custom stock ROM, (backup 1st, make sure you have appropriate recovery version for installing ROM, etc).

Install Apps to SD Card

I recently filled up my internal storage and have put a new 64gb sd card in my TAB S. Now I have figured out how to move apps already installed on my device to the SD Card through the app manager. Is there a way to install apps right off the bat to the SD card or do I have to first install them to my device and then move them over?
I have the same question-
But i m not able to move app also, do we have a fix?
Few gb's game lead to no storage space available - how to fix this guys.
Root, install SDfix for R/W permission and FolderMount or Link2SD to transfer files, data etc to the SD card.
It's kind of convoluted. I read you could use adb to set default location to external sd. Sounds great except it doesn't work. I'm using folder mount right now. It's a bit tedious because you install your app on internal first, then move any large obb to external. I tried link2sd but had trouble with partitioning the card. I'll give it a shot some other time.
I don't know why you just can't like sym link /sdcard0 to /sdcard1 and be done with it.

I had the same issue before., Rooted the device and install custom ROM which did not solve the issue as I wanted. Installed the Kalikazoo above and another KitKat External app from the Play Store and then I was able to use the Apps2SD for most of my apps. After using these, I was able to use the External SD as I had planned. My big issue was Apps Backup & Restore which is my backup to Titanium Backup if any of the ones I want fail. Since all of these take a lot of space the external SD is a MUST. I have it am I am a happy camper because of it. Shame on Samsung for limiting our use of that external slot right out of the box.

[Q] Link2SD Question

Hello there everyone!
I recently got a Tab S 8.4 (t-700) with 16 GB, and found out that the internal storage is not enough when you want a decent amount of apps and games. My question is that any of you got Link2SD working (without a custom ROM)? I rooted my tab and then put TWRP recovery (I wanted CWM, but haven't found it for this tab) on it, partitioned my 32 GB Samsung SD card (1st partition ~24 GB FAT32, 2nd partition ~8 GB ext2/ext3/ext4 (tried all of them) with EaseUS Partition Master, and MiniTool (tried both of them)), and all I get from Link2SD is "Mount Script cannot be created. mount: Invalid argument). Does anybody know how to solve this? I tried partitioning with TWRP but I get "device not found" error when I try to start the partitioning, even thought the SD card is mounted and FIle manager can use it. I also tried to look for this problem on the googles and the forums, but 90 % of threads are +2 years old and not really helpful.
Every bit of help is appreciated.
I am on iron rom which is an stock based rom with a few mods. I formatted my sd by going to into settings>general>storage and scroll down till you see format sd. Of course i didnt need to do that as my sd card was already working. Hope this helps
Thank you for your response, but my question was not how to format my SD card. The SD works fine if I want to use it normally without partitioning. I want to make it work with Link2SD.
Doing this worked for me. I formatted my sd with this and it worked fine with linktosd but I have no idea why yours wont work. Sorry
Formatting the SD card in the settings will create a single FAT32 partition on the card. What I'm trying to do is make 2 partitions on the SD card (which I have already done), and mount one with Link2SD, because most apps won't work or move a very little amount of Data to the SD when it's normally formatted. Link2SD has the ability to mount an ext2-3-4 formatted partition, so the apps work with it. I just can't figure it out why it won't work with mine, and asking if other people who has tried the Mounting method has any experience. The "native" method of moving apps to the SD with Link2Sd does a different thing and that's not what I'm trying to accomplish.
EDIT:
Here is a relatively old guide of what I'm trying to do: LINK
Hey, im also having that same problem with my tab s 8.4, i have tried creating ext2, 3 and 4, and even fat32, but none works, did you manage to find a way to make it work??
thankss
Did you ever get Link2SD working? I had it working on my Asus TF700 by using GParted to partion my sd card and everything worked perfectly. Do not know what the difference is but everyone said I had to use GParted.
Just create an ext2 partition on your sd card and link2sd will detect it. I've had it working with link2sd plus.
What's the problem?

You need to use the latest version from play.
I'm already using the latest version of Link2Sd but still not working.
I am also looking into using an SD card to move apps to via Link2SD....also on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S (10.1 wifi version)
Good to know someone tried this recently
Have you tried using gparted to partition the SD card? A lot of the stuff I ran into online recommends this as the partitioning tool. I have worked with linux before doing more "advanced" stuff like this with android and it's a great tool for many platforms (also it works, unlike other partitioning programs I have used prior to it)
Will keep checking back here and will also let you know what happens when/if I try to do this...

You can use any partitioning tool that handles ext2,3 or 4.

@therajatshahare: I was able to use Link2SD with two different SD cards. ON both of them, I was able to use Link2SD to move the app + lib + dex files of several applications (including several games and Facebook) to and from the SD card with no issue.
The only issue I had was when I unmounted my previous SD card (because it wasn't partitioned), two of my apps did not work and I had to reinstall them through Google Play.
I also bought the full version of Link2SD so that I can move even the app data to and from the SD cards as needed
@ashyx: Also, I had no issue partitioning the SD card using Minitool Partitioning in Windows. Again, I partitioned two cards using this windows app, both of them with roughly half the space formatted to ext2, and the other half as FAT32.
So.....no issues from this end. Tested successfully and working as intended

[Q] How to properly make use of SD card storage?

Hey guys.
I tried searching for my problem, and I'm not entirely sure it got it right.
So, I got the S4 Mini, and use CM 12.1 (by FAK, built 20151005) and CWM 6.0.4.6.
Works like a charm, thanks for that and the idiot-proof tutorials on that.
8GB storage being not that much, I bought a 32gb micro SD card to enhance my storage.
From what I read before, Android got problems using SD cards properly since Kitkat.
So, now my problem:
I partitioned the card as fat32 (as was somewhere described) not sure if that even ist the right choice ^^
Now when I install some app vom Google Play Store, I can't even choose SD card as storage, it goes straight to internal.
In Settings, there is no option to make SD card the standard storage.
Only thing I can do is "move app to sd", which seems to work, as all the apps are gone when I remove the SD card and start the phone.
But somehow the internal storage is still as full as before moving them, and the external SD is not close as full as it should be.
Having 8GB internal storage should leave me with about 5,4GB usable storage. I only left the GApps on the internal storage (Chrome, Play Store etc) which add up to ~700mb. So there should easily be 4,5GB free internal storage, but I only get like 1,2GB.
My SD card on the other hand, says it just uses ~400MB, when it should be 1,5GB or even more.
Is the only solution trying working with "Link2SD" (does it even work properly?) or is there anything I did miss?
I tried reading up on some stuff, but there is just so much, and I didn't really find something fitting my problem.
Thanks a lot in advance, guys!
Would have postet screenshots from my settings, but I'm not allowed yet, sorry.
That's what I did.
Create two partitions on the SD card, using mini partition tool.
First part is FAT32 second one is ext-3.
Using then Link2SD will now detect the ext-3 partition and request then a reboot.
All APS can now linked to the ext-3 partition manually or if configured automatically.
I'm using 10gb on ext-3 and rest for fat.
Hey nikon. Thanks for your answer.
If there's no other solution, I'll try that.
What I don't get, why only 10GB on ext-3? and then ~20GB as fat32?
edit: ok, tried using link2sd, but doesn't work, because apparently it isn't rooted? when I start l2sd, it asks which partition to use, I check ext2-ext4, and it says "mount script cannot be created - not allowed to su"
I guess su means superuser, which means, it isn't rooted. But I got CWM and CyanogenMod installed, shouldn't it be rooted??
I'm confused
That was enough for me
Music and Video is still on FAT so you can get access over USB. If you put everything on ext this one is blocked during USB access.

Ok, just thought of that. Sounds good, but I still got to root my phone. Any idiot-proof way to do this?
As is said, I already got CWM and CM 12.1 installed, any easy way to root, so I can use link2sd?
edit: nevermind, 2minutes google solved this one
Thanks man, nikon. Gonna try out link2sd like you said.
