Hi guys I have this doubt is not able to find a solution anywhere. I have an LG g3 v20f without root. I read to apply the root must move to a previous version and install a rom bump and Lilliput, the problem is here, not having the root, you can install a modified recovery? If you like? You can unlock the bootloader having v20f without root? Thanks to all
You have to downgrade to Kitkat, then root it and then you will be able to flash recovery.
And how do I move to kitkat? Need a tool?

It works on most phone with new LG stock recovery. In new v20 Stock recovery LG allow user to adb sideload zip and flash anything to our phone. That script just flash su and root your phone.
PS. You cannot use it with old LG recovery.

I know this is an old question but, will i be able to still receive software updates for my Optimus G after i root it with this method? and does this method unlocks the BootLoader?

No, you need to unroot it first. But most unroot method leave some files that make LG OTA fail. So if you root your phone when you need to upgrade with official LG OTA, you need to flash stock kdz back.

IMO, LG will not update our phone to Android L but we will get it from dev anyways. Kitkat v20b update is stable and battery friendly, it maybe last update from LG for our 2 years old phone.

It's such a shame that they are already considering it as kind of Obsolete. The OG still packs a formidable specs(still better than most of Mid-Tier phones lately), and it's an ex-Flagship of LG to start with. I understand they should ditch the OG for their newer products to sell out but it's pretty unfair for those who have the G. Unfair to the fact that the Xperia Z(which has the same specs with OG) is still supported by SONY and it is now on 4.4.4
Hey, need the twrp for d855 lg g3, 32gb version.
*need a file that i will be able to flash via Rashr.
(Rashr - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools)
Thanks.
Dude, this has been the biggest news regarding the G3 for the last few days..... How can you miss it? It's the file that matters (the bumped TWRP version), the method if installing it doesn't.

This IS the one and only way and to install a "simple" recovery on G3 as of now since the bootloader is not unlocked on D855.
Do not attempt to flash anything else and risk bricking your device.
Friendly advice: Spend some more time on this forum reading the various threads and you'll realise what Bump! is and why we don't go for a "simple" recovery.

haha, what do you expect? It can't be any simpler? Bump is the only way you can flash a recovery image on the G3.
All bump is doing is replacing stock recovery with a special version of TWRP that can bypass the bootloader, which is pretty much exactly what any normal flash of TWRP on a device other than a nexus is like (except the modifications to TWRP will be different or unnecessary depending on how the bootloader of the particular device is locked).
judging from your reaction it seems to me that all you know is nexus devices? You need to fast learn about how real devices work where things are a little more hacky to bypass securities that OEM's put in place.

TWRP with the bump modification IS a simple recovery with a boot.img tweak that allows the file to pass the signature requirement for the encrypted bootloader of the G3, thereby allowing the phone to flash the file.
But you are more than welcome to come up with your own solution. I wish you the best in your endeavours!
The question has been answered.
@adi90004, please use the search function in future

I was wondering if there was some method for rooting the LG G3 on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). I've searched far and wide on the internet but have found nothing so far. I did see that there were methods for the Nexus devices but nothing for LG.
Would like this as well. I thought I could live a while without root.. Seems like I just can't. :crying:
I think that you can find already rooted lollipop version on the forum.
For now, i nowhere found any root options.

now it's impossible to root lollypop via purpledrake, ioroot or other programs but you can flash a rooted bumped rom.
I'll wait for this.
Same situation here.
Planned to use the pre-rooted lollipop but to use it you need twrp on the phone. To get twrp you need first root. So its a dead end, a points on b and b points back on a, both needing the other present first.....
Maybe if you flash an older kdz, root it with any of the previous methods, then get twrp on the phone and then flash the pre-rooted lollipop. Im just gonna wait for a lollipoproot without twrp needed.

I am on 5.0 and tried purpledrake (since i used it with 4.4.2), but it did not work, i also tried Stump and got an error too. With 5.0 the structure has changed and the methods for KK are different to Lollipop. So far, even with Nexus, the only way to root is through bootloader/kernel.
Hopefully soon we will see a method that can bypass this.
This is the method that works on the d855 by skin1980 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022

Yup, thats the reason why i downgraded it to KK. Downgrade, root and you can install rooted L.

Does that work then? I'm on Lollipop 20a on the D855. If i install the KK kdz, will it make the phone rootable again? I read something to do with the boot loader not reverting back to how it was before lollipop

Use this guide to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
(you can flash almost any KK KDZ, v10x of course, but make sure it's for your device)
Root it with your preferred root method (i prefer Purple Drake)
BUMP it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2900614
Now you can flash the bumped roms you'll like. Just make sure, it's for your device.
