Unable to connect to adb. - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have 2 fire tv both rooted and installed CWM and OTA blcoked and both running on same router.
Fire TV 1: i can connect to adb with out any problem either with wifi IP address or Ethernet IP address assigned by my router.
Fire TV 2: i can connect to adb with the ip address assigned to the wifi connection. However, i CAN NOT connect to adb using the Ethernet IP address . It give me an error unable to connect to [ip address]: 5555.
Can someone shed some light on this issue?
Thank you

Do you mean that both devices have two different IP addresses? There might be some function to ignore the wireless connection if a wired connection is made. Try unplugging the ethernet, reboot it, and try using just the wireless IP.

mac address

Does anyone know how I can find out the mac address of my xda IIs ? I have a dreytek wireless router at home which uses a mac based access control list. I've tried the addresses that appear in wireless LAN manager ( BSSID and MAC ) but no joy. The only way I can connect is to switch off the access list feature completely
jeff
Hi Jeff,
Switch off the Access control, and let the XDA IIs join the wireless network. Then go into Diagnostic Tools --> View DHCP assigned addresses, and you will get a list of MAC addresses, IP addresses and hosts on the network. Match your phone's name to the MAC address.
Then you can turn access control on again and input the phone's mac address into the "allowed" list.
Thanks for the reply. I've kind of done that as you can see from the DHCP table below
DHCP server: Running
Index IP Address MAC Address Leased Time HOST ID
1 192.168.1.1 00-50-7F-23-97-CC ROUTER IP
2 192.168.1.10 00-00-00-00-00-00 BAD IP
3 192.168.1.11 00-0D-61-4E-A7-F7 0:00:04.600 hubbo
4 192.168.1.12 00-09-2D-0E-49-61 9:24:34.170
(not sure about that BADIP line ! )
I would say my MAC is 00-09-2D-0E-49-61 but it's still not working.... odd.
Is there no way that you can tell the MAC address from the phone without connecting to a network.
Here is a freeware that will allow you to find your MAC with no connection. I used it on my PDA2K.
http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/vxipconfig.shtml
Install on your device. Just turn the wifi on and run the program and it will give you the MAC and additional device info. Don't have the PPC connected to the USB or it will identify that device.
Sorted thanks, whilst in PC World I scanned for a Wireless network, and found three, hehe! Once connected used that utility to get my MAC.
Many thanks!

Router Internal Firewall Help

I have my wireless router set up to use MAC Address filtering, where as it will only let recognized MAC Addresses onto my network. When I have the router's internal firewall turned off my KF will connect np. But when I enable the router's internal firewall it just loops thru the WiFi scanning and obtaining ip address, but never connects. So something in the built in firewall is blocking the KF. Any ideas how I can make the KF connect after the firewall is enabled? I have 3 cell phones that connect just fine behind the firewall. Its a Belkin N-150 Model Number F6D4230-4 Version 3

A way to use WiFi in CWM

Hello everyone. I'm going to share a way for you to control your CWM install over WiFi, sort-of. Do not ask for a pure WiFi implementation, I am more interested in other projects here that may or may not happen with the release of 5.0 sources and rbox's partial unlock.
Next, here is a list of things you'll need:
A WiFi router
A laptop or WiFi device
patience
time
Now that we have all of this, you will connect your gateway into your wireless router, in order to provide an internet connection. If you do not have a way to plug in your gateway, you may want to explore using DD-WRT and the router as a client-bridge (this will connect to your home's network, then turn the router into a switch). With this completed, reboot your Fire TV to the recovery. You will see that it has an IP on your sub-net (just like your laptop and phone). This is because the router is doing all of the work and connecting the devices, much like if the WiFi inside of the Fire TV was utilized.
All you must do now is type the following:
Code:
adb connect X.X.X.X
where the X's are replaced with the IP shown on the Fire TV's screen.
Now do as you please, you have your WiFi control. If you desire to donate, do so to @rbox He was the one who allowed you to do this stuff in the first place.

[Q] help connecting to FireTV on different LAN subnet?

I have Private Internet Access as a VPN service, and I wanted to use that for my FireTV alone. So I have a second router in my LAN, which basically serves as a VPN filter for my FireTV. Everything else on my network goes through the first router. So it looks like this:
192.168.1.1 = main router
192.168.1.12 = my Macbook
192.168.1.111 = second (VPN) router's address on main network (I can connect to this from my Macbook and administer the VPN router)
10.0.0.1 = LAN address of VPN router
10.0.0.50 = FireTV IP address
So! My question is...how can I ADB connect to my FireTV from my Macbook using adbFire?
You could opt to disable firewall functionality on your VPN router, unless your main router has static routes to your VPN and open for certain ports from the WAN side. That should be the easiest option.
Or you can open specific ports used by ADB on your VPN router to allow inbound traffic to your FTV along with static route to the FTV. In this case, you will connect to FTV using the WAN IP of your VPN router and forward traffic at the designated port(s) to FTV
Or you can run a local hotspot on your FTV using an application like WiFI Tether Router (or even ES File Explorer) and connect your MAC to the router (that is FTV) and work like that. Note, this only works if your FTV is wired and thereby freeing up your wireless so that it can be used for client connections to it. And also, your MAC has to go wireless in this case. But it is a convoluted way to go that way.

Fire stick Wifi problem

Hiya folks, I have a wifi connection issue with Fire Stick.
My router is TP-Link WR841N
My TV is a Samsung LE40C650LKXXU
The Fire Stick won't connect because it won't recognise the Gateway.
Any ideas, you good people?
Thank you
Cath
Use DHCP instead of a static IP.
Try a different wifi channel
