Once again it looks like Samsung (artificially?) disabled the phone on the North American (SM-T705W) LTE models,
And yet they state the following on the Canada and North American websites:
"Send and receive voice calls while multitasking on the LTE model."
I spoke with a rep and they said that the reason you cant make calls on North American (SM-T705W) models is that "It's a tablet" but after guiding the rep through the google search results for the above quoted text, the rep THEN stated that you CAN make phone calls with the UK and Hong Kong versions.
SMS works. Data works, but there is no option to dial a contact. Third party dialler apps make the sounds but won't put through the call.
Is there really any difference in the hardware capabilities between the UK and North American versions or is this just another artificially placed limitation to favor the North America carriers?
I bought this unit outright and off contract (full price, non-subsidized) from a retail Samsung store and it's bad enough that it came locked to a carrier...
Do we need to root and Apply EU/UK firmware to the SM-T705W to provide this functionality, for perhaps in the case of emergencies?
I did this successfully on a North American Galaxy Tab GT-P1000M with the same(?) artifically placed limitation.
Has anyone been successful at enabling voice calls / dialling on the SM-T705W and are there Radio files required or available for U.S. and Canadian carriers?

Thanks for the reply mac231us,
oldblue says he knows what he's talking about, but no-one has confirmed it (in that thread). He also states that American LTE is impossible with International versions (which someone seems to have contradicted) and that sms and voice is only possible with international versions (and sms works for me), and his experience seems to be relating to an AT&T SM-T707 specifically.
This thread/question is about a North American T705W, which I can confirm...sends SMS perfectly well and also supports LTE (at least data) in North America (30mbit so far).
So I hope bigblue might be wrong about the hardware and not being able to flash to enable voice.
Can anyone confirm this on or for a SM-T705W please?
Thanks

Just curious if you ever got this sorted out? I have a T705W and realized that I can not flash any of the T705 firmwares to it.... Just wondering if anyone has a work around that would allow flashing an international firmware. I don't actually care about making calls from the tablet, more so just want the Lollipop update, and I know it will be a cold day in Hell before ROBELUS releases an updated firmware!
Can you get any of the lollipop bootloaders to install?

Hi TAMAS, I've tried flashing Hong-Kong stuff on the Canadian SM-T705W version, as expected I got failure, it flashed boot.img and failed on the modem.bin. So I was under impression that I got lollipop boot loader, at least.
I've successfully flashed TWRP openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-klimtwifi, interestingly version for SM-T700 flashed with no issues. And I've tried to flash IronROM v2 which based on adndroid 5, which also said was flashed successfully according to TWRP. However, I was unable to boot - got stuck at the boot screen.
Is there any other way to get bootloader somehow maybe from some other OTA firmware. I'm using my tablet at home on Wifi only, so I don't mind loosing my radio and not having LTE, as long as I can get lollipop based ROM.
P.S. Will try to flash cm12 (klimtwifi version) and update this thread, but I'm concerned that bootloader method is not working through Hong-Kong OTA.

just to add some extra info:
I am in the UK with a T805 (10.5 inch version LTE) and I can make calls and send texts from my tablet. I can imagine that the only reason for not being able to make calls is they disabled it. They should fix that if they offered in the US the ability to make calls but then disabled it.

It is not Samsung who disabled..but the u.s carriers who branded their versions. .this was discussed back in October 2014 in one of the q and a or general forums for the tab s and pro too maybe..definitely the tab s as I had a post or two there if I recall correctly

non-cellular calls are possible like hangouts etc as someone mentioned but not cellular calls
Anyone know if tablet is locked to carrier like smartphone? I bought a brand new sealed SM-T705W on craigslist. The label states Telus UPC. Is there any way to find out if it is locked or unlocked without cut open the box? If this tablet is not able to make/receive call, I will resell it.
Search the forum and 320/325 tab pro forum going back a year.. Like see Oct 2014...the carrier versions cannot make cellular calls...
Edit just noticed my post above yours has those old message links... So why the question? Just search... If one carrier does it all will do this.. This should be no different

I just got a T807T and popped in my smartphone sim with unlimited data. I was able to text from my regular phone number, but i could not get data to work, the browsers just went straight to a Tmo sign up page and gave an error about putting my sim in different devices. I even rooted and disable the Tnmoble Connect Me app, but that didn't allow data to work. I guess the network knows that my sim is for my smartphone only?
Hi does anyone have an update on this? I feel this issue is important to a lot of people.
The SM-T805W I am using should be fully physically capable of making voice calls since it has capability for all bands I am using for my Canadian carrier including GSM, UMTS, HSPA and LTE. Not sure if this issue is present in custom ROMs as well. Does anyone know what modifications are required to enable the voice calling? Any replies would be very appreciated! Thanks.
Has anyone figured out how to enable voice calling on this device?
Please try installing cm-12.1 T705 build and see if that will work, because i know T805W works on T805 cm-12.1 with working data, calling, texting

Just bought a used Note 8 with LTE. I thought that was a N5120, but in the ABOUT section it calls it an SGH-i467M.
What do I have?
Thank you
Goto: Settings -> About device -> Model number, and it will answer your question .
As far as I know the only difference between GT-N5120 and SGH-i467M is that SGH-i467M is the model number used by AT&T in the USA and Roger's in Canada. But take that with a grain of salt -- I'm a GT-N5110 (Wi-Fi) owner.

Thanks Spidey01. I hear conflicting things, some say I will brick it if I use the 5120 ROM (4.2.2) and some like you say it's a name. Not ready to take a chance yet.
You might be able to ask your national branch of Samsung support but I'm honestly not sure they would know the difference. Their websites not very clear as far as I know. Here in the USA, it's classified as the SGH-I467ZWAATT for the LTE model and AT&T only.
They offer the Note 10.1 2014 on 2 out of 4 major carriers (T-Mobile, VZW) and the Note Pro 12.2 on 2 out of 4 major carriers (AT&T, VZW).
When I bought my Note 8, I went with the Wi-Fi only GT-N5110 because the 3G based GT-N5100 cost an too much via Amazon, darn imports.

hmmm for a moment I had to look that 5120 model up. I see that it is the 3G, 4G/LTE, Wifi version. I only have the 5110 Wifi version.
Anyway, according to Samsung you have the AT&T US version.

Yup. It's a basterdized version of the 5120. There is no microphone, can't use any voice programs. They didn't want people using it to make phone calls. You wonder why I hate Rogers.
But I've also heard that if you try to put a 5120 ROM on, even if you use the Rogers LTE radio, you will brick it. Pretty sad. And they won't update it from the original 4.1.2.

No Microphone! hmm Well I guess I can cross out that model off my list. In another thread I mentioned that I plan on selling my wifi version and get the AT&T version and use it on T-Mobile but if there is no microphone than like you said, you can't make calls.
Guess I will have to get either the more expensive international version GT-N5100 or GT-N5120.

Just a point of clarification, there are several differences between the N5100 and i467 that make it unsuitable as a primary phone. Besides the lack of a microphone, there's no ear speaker. Most importantly, there is no phone app, and nobody has been able to develop one that works reliably (there's a thread dedicated to this topic). So calls on an i467 would be VoIP.
Lastly, the N5120 is not well suited for the US, it has different frequency bands than the N5100. If you're using AT&T's or T-Mobile's network, get the i467 or the N5100, there is no advantage to getting the N5120.

How would you make VoIP calls with no microphone?
I don't have the i467, but I assume calls can be made using a headset. Prior to the N5100, I had a Tab 7.7 and made calls via VoIP using the speakerphone or bluetooth headset.

There is a mic in the AT&T SGH-I467 Note 8. Just that it has no radio for voice communication. I use Skype to make phone call voice over ip. I should wish AT&T is not all the users of this model. They have consistently delay the release of any Android updates since 4.1.2

I have an AT&T model right now in the UK doing very well mind you... VOIP works using Text Plus.

The AT&T SGH-I467 has a microphone and places VoIP calls superbly. I use it all the time. Please people. Do some research before presenting information that is not correct (i'm not saying your post was incorrect harry_fine). Incorrect info (models, specs, so forth) pollutes the threads and adds confusion to some already confusing topics for new users. -smiles-
Comparison
The following page may serve as a comparison between GT-N5100 and SGH-i467:
phonemore.com/compare/phones/samsung-galaxy-note-80-gt-n5100-16gb-vs-samsung-galaxy-note-80-4g-sgh-i467-16gb/814727
However it concludes that i467 is better than N5100 as the former is 4G LTE supported while the latter is 3G only. Dont know how much credibility in that.

If there is no microphone, how does the camera record with sound? Look directly above the power button, you will find the microphone (at least on the I467)
I know this is an old thread, but since no one has responded to my new thread, I will ask my question here.
I have an I467 (yes, it has a mic, but NO phone app. You use VOIP instead) that needs an LCD/digitizer replacement.
The price of this assembly is quite high if it is advertised specifically for I467. I guess they are the Samsung OEM part.
The LCD/digitzer for N5100 or N5110 are cheaper. However, will they work on I467? Many sellers on eBay claim their LCD/digitizer will work for *BOTH* N5110 and I467 because they think I467 is Wi-Fi only too just like N5110. This is obviously a mistake. I467 is 4G LTE. I have it working in my hand!
However, since LCD/digitizer is not a function related to radio, just because N5100 is 3G, it doesn't mean its LCD would work on I467. Likewise just because N5110 is Wi-Fi only, it doesn't mean the display won't work on I467. I see it more like a mechanical fitting issue. Does anyone know for sure?
Lastly, does N5120 have the exact same hardware as I467 but differ only in software (e.g it has been programmed with different frequency bands)?
p.s. unrelated subject but a hard learned lesson to share. I467 (AT&T) has a locked bootloader. My understanding is I467M (note the ending -M) is the Canadian version, which is not locked, but I am not sure. Now this bootloader is so restricted that even if you download a STOCK ROM specifically for I467 (AT&T) posted online, it can still brick the phone! It happened to my first I467. I got a message saying software not authorized by AT&T has been detected, but it was an I467 *STOCK* ROM! Obviously AT&T has several different I467 ROMs, and those online resources do NOT have all revisions. Unless you put the same revision that you get from OTA or Samsung Kies, the bootloader would still reject it.
SGH-I467 is the AT&T version. SGH-I467M (note the ending M) is the Canadian version. Many people are mixing these two, but the difference can get you!
The AT&T version has the bootloader locked, but the Canadian version is UNLOCKED.
It is very easy to root SGH-I467M but much harder with an SGH-I467!
With a locked bootloader, I had to try many different tools and finally was able to root with Kingo Root (not Kingroot).
GT-5120 has an earpiece and proximity sensor. SGH-I467 does NOT. I don't know if SGH-I467M has these 2 hardware since mine is SGH-I467.
Although all 3 are LTE, since GT-5120 is an international version, it wouldn't have the same frequency bands as SGH-I467 or SGH-I467M.

SGH-I467 is AT&T (no ending M), but SGH-I467M is made for the Canadian carriers.
Though they are almost identical, they do have one vital difference. SGH-I467 has the bootloader LOCKED while SGH-I467M does NOT.
Since both SGH-I467M and GT-N5120 have unlocked bootloader, I was thinking about buying a GT-N5120 motherboard and swapping it into my SGH-I467. I wasn't planning on buying a SGH-I467M motherboard because I couldn't find them. Though GT-N5120 has international frequency bands not available in the U.S., with an unlocked bootloader, I thought I could just swap in my carrier's, T-Mobile, modem code.
Now I don't think it is doable at all. I have a Canadian Galaxy S4, SGH-I337M (bootloader unlocked, unlike the AT&T version). I tried to download T-Mobile's modem to my S4 thinking it may give me better data rate. Odin prompted Fail! (Auth) and S4 showed Secure Check Fail! After some googling, I realize regardless of unlocked bootloader, these phones/tablets are engineered to check if authorized modem codes are being flashed. I know for sure my S4's bootloader is unlocked because I have installed TWRP for recovery.
Since GT-N5120 has international frequency bands, turning it into a North American tablet is DOA if another carrier's modem code cannot be installed. If anyone questions why a custom ROM can be flashed to a phone/tablet with unlocked bootloader, it is because a custom ROM seldom comes with the modem code!

From what I can tell, the Dev Edition does lack 2600 MHz (band 7) LTE support.
There are probably a variety of other radios that will work with Band 7. Just looking at a Wiki list of what LTE bands are used in various locations/carriers (below); band 7 seems to be used by a number of carriers in Europe and Asia (as well as South & Cental America). Also, just looking at the specs for my AT&T M8 version, it also supports LTE Band 7. SO I would think you might have a few different options that would work. But of course you will want to use a radio that also supports your carrier's 3G band(s).

Here in Brazil a some people are using att version and 4g is working fine, and also I talked to a guy that is using wwe radio and is working fine too, but att radio is in version 1.16 and wwe is in 1.15, should I try the newer one instead of wwe?

While technically the 1.16 radio is "newer" than 1.15 (thus the higher version number); that doesn't necessarily mean "better". Its from the same "generation" of radio versions, and just includes AT&T specific tweaks, bands, etc.
Neither the WWE nor the AT&T radios are specifically intended for your carrier. So its a gamble which will work better. It sounds like either should work fine. If I had to pick, I would guess to try the WWE radio. AT&T has too many network specific naunces, in my experience. While WWE by definition is more "generic". But that is just a guess on my part (which will work better in your specific case).

Thanks, I will try wwe first, if 4g do not appear I will try att. And I didn't knew that Dev edition doesn't have band 7, I was expecting to appear 4g after boot.

I was slightly surprised myself. I had assumed that the Dev Edition and AT&T versions had the same band compatibility, since the DE is specfically intended to work on AT&T's network. But at least based on specs online, its missing LTE Band 7 (which agrees with your experience).
AT&T doesn't use LTE Band 7. So its not too strange, I suppose (that its omitted from the DE). I just wonder why they decided to include it on the AT&T variant, and not on the DE.

No luck with wwe radio. Maybe is carrier related. Do you think my m8 have a different hardware? Is a GSM version. Also if wwe radio didn't work att wouldn't either, or is there a chance to work?

Aside from the CDMA variants (Sprint & Verizon) and dual SIM variant, all M8 hardware is the same.
AT&T radio might still work, I'd recommend trying it.
Its fully possible that the carriers intended for the WWE version don't use LTE Band 7. I was just guessing (and apparently incorrectly) that there was enough Band 7 usage in Europe, that it would mean the WWE version would support that band.

If you have never used LTE on that SIM before, than yes there might be a carrier side issue. Such as your account not being provisioned for LTE, etc.
Also make sure you are using the proper APN. Sometimes, carriers use a different APN for LTE enabled phones.

flashed att radio still no 3g, but is now appearing 3g more instead H. never saw that 3g symbol, just h or h+. talked to my carrier and they said that my sim was already 4g enabled, tried to reset apn and try another and still no 4g. my model is 0p6b160, i think is the same one from canada. is there some app that i can use to see if band 7 is working?
EDIT:I was doing some research about this model and even in stock firmware and radio it was supposed to work with band 7. in this page http://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/21erlf/psa_the_new_htc_one_m8_google_play_edition/
is this post:
HTC made and certified with the FCC three models that support 3G on AWS band. They support the following LTE bands:
0P6B130: 4,17
0P6B160: 4,7,17
0P6B170: 2,4,5,7,17

I'd try your SIM in another phone, or try another person's SIM (who has working LTE) on your phone, and see what happens.
I have a suspicion that the issue is carrier side. If your phone has the band enabled, and the APN is correct, I don't see any reason why LTE won't work.

As I suspected, after flashing multiple radios, that it was a network side issue.
I have to agree, that is some poor customer service to not even try a new SIM. And now you've conclusively proven the issue is on their side. So if you give them another chance and they still don't fix it; I agree switching carriers is probably the right decision (if that is an option for you).

You don't need an app. Just go into phone Settings>About>Network, and there you will see Signal Strength in dBm.

i will switch my carrier today, they don't even had a clue what device is HTC m8 since htc doesn't sell devices here in Brazil. after two calls and they told me to turn off my device for 10 minutes (obviously the did this because they didn't know how to fix the problem and this will make me hang up the call) nothing was solved, they even told me that my area doesn't have 4g coverage, but almost a year ago i was using 4g in my g2 in the same carrier, that was when i stop taking them seriously. for the record, the carrier is Claro BR, try to ask something more technical and they don't know what to do.
Thanks for all you help and attention.
I ordered a LG GM710ULM from a well-reviewed seller on eBay. It was listed as new condition.
I received it yesterday and on the box, the model says LM710ULMBLTPL. I think the "PL" is for the Platinum. When I booted it up, the model number is the LM-710ULM, the serial number is populated, and the software version is the 11g and security patch is November 2018. When I tried to "Check for updates" , it said there were no updates available. There's no SIM card in it, so I'm not sure if that affects the ability to check updates. I don't see any signs of any carrier apps. All
When I looked up the IMEI on one of the free checkers, it comes back with the model as LMG710ULM, but the network is listed as "ABC Brightpoint" and Location is "N". As I've poked around, it looks like this is some sort of regional variant, but still from the U.S. But I can't find any cell provider named "Brightpoint".
When I checked the IMEI on T-Mobile's website, it gave me an error. But when I used the chat support feature, the rep was able to look it up and confirm it's not blacklisted and should be able to be activated on T-mobile. When I ran the IMEI through Verizon's online checker, it told me it wasn't compatible with Verizon's network. Which is a bit unsettling since the unlocked version should be able to be activated on any network.
Can anyone offer some insight on what the Brightpoint version is and how it may be different from the plain vanilla 710ULM ? Willl it be covered by the LG manufacturer warranty and get updates? Is there any way to be sure it's not refurb or flashed?
Thanks!
The fact that you have a populated serial number is a good sign. Brightpoint has released legitimate firmware for the ULM model, but I still no nothing about them as a company (might be worth a search of the forms... I think I remember someone talking about them as an LG partner). As seen here, I think the 11g update was the last update they released, but it should be possible to switch over to GFI or LG's vanilla USA firmware (this will likely require the use of LGUP), both of which are the same as far as I can tell, however there are different contact and dialer apps that get used depending on which network you are on, as well a Google Fi app that is either enabled or disabled by default.
Regardless of what the VZW website said, you should have access to all 4 major carriers in the US. I don't know if you have a specific provider in mind or a solution that uses multiple carriers such as Google Fi or Straight Talk, but you should be good to go (although I would recommend flashing to the latest "USA" kdz, which sadly is still not Pie!)
This is exactly what happened to me. What did you find out? What did you end up doing? I was expecting the ULM.AUSAPL model but got the ULM.BPTPL. Apparently Brightpoint is a CDMA company. Does this mean not all GSM bands will be accessible on this BPT firmware? Ya, seems their latest update is still from 12/2018 (11g) instead of USA firmware from 3/2019 (10j). Trying not to have to flash/root. Odd that Verizon said not compatible when it too is CDMA? Really having trouble finding the TRUE factory unlocked ULM.AUSA version. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Any info? Really would like to know what you found out. Did you keep the phone? Encounter any problems? ANY info would be greatly appreciated. DeeBG: maybe you can answer this: (BrightPoint is CDMA "provider" for all those tiny regional carriers) Since this "factory unlocked" ULM version is BPT does this mean that some or all of the GSM frequency bands are "disabled" for this model? And the USA version (GSM according to LG) has the CDMA bands "disabled"? And the GFI has all bands "enabled"? (for Fi auto switching) Is this how it works or what? Very confusing. Please help clarify this. Thanks.
I got one of the ULM versions off the bay too recently....it would not work on VZN...they denied activating it. I believe it does not have some bands needed. No pie for it either....so sent it back and got the VM version for vzn.

Sadly the confusion + lack of information is rampant for this phone, and this is down to one major reason. The chipset used in all LG G7 phones is the same (Qualcomm Snapdragon 845), however due to carrier subsidies and other sketchy reasons, the active bands are dictated by whoever sold the phone.
There are two providers in the US that I'm aware of that make use of all four major networks (those being Google Fi and Straight Talk). There are multiple free and ad-supported apps in the Google Play store that claim to be able to tell you which bands are supported by your phone (I only know of their existence and so cannot recommend one that's more accurate than another).
Thanks for responding! Boy..............."lack of information for this phone" is the understatement of the year! You aren't kidding! I've been trying to find out more for days but seem to get either very basic answers or different answers from different sources. So frustrating! Even LG is very vague in their answers. Just want to know if I will encounter any problems trying to use this on GSM networks when this is technically on CDMA firmware? And just cross-flashing this to the USA firmware will NOT "enable" all the GSM bands, right? RR125: A bunch of reflashed G7's have been being sold online, making my search for true answers even more frustrating. Did it come factory sealed? Meaning clear round stickers on both the sides? If not, then you may have received one of the models being reflashed to make it look like it is a ULM model. Which is bait and switch and illegal.
I'm in the same boat. I signed up for Google Fi and purchased my G710ULM from Amazon a couple months ago. I experienced issues immediately. WiFi calling didn't work; every time it was enabled I could see ER081 up top. After 1.5 months of terrible service, I downloaded Signal Spy and came to the realization that I was only ever connecting to T-Mobile. If I attempted to manually switch to the Sprint network, I'd get a message like "configuring mobile data". After about a couple minutes, my SIM card would lock and it told me to reboot my phone. If I attempted to switch to U.S. Cellular's network, I would get phone and data, but my phone number changed to a Nebraska number (note, I live in Missouri).
At about that time, I started researching the different firmware versions (with great difficulty) and found that I had a Brightpoint-specific firmware (11g). I've since used LGUP to flash to firmware 10j (Google Fi's latest G710ULM firmware). This has improved but not fixed my situation. I can now make WiFi calls, I can connect to T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular and keep my phone number on U.S. Cellular. However, when I attempt to connect to Sprint, I still get that "configuring mobile data" message and the SIM card locks. I ordered a new SIM card from Google Fi a couple days back and intend to test this phone with the updated card, but I've got a feeling that something else is at play here preventing me from connecting to Sprint.
Similar to other people, I did an IMEI lookup and while it comes up on the free IMEI checker sites, most of the main networks' checkers (ATT, TMobile, Verizon, Sprint) tell me that the phone is either incompatible with their network or they can't find it in their DB.
Potential SIM card issues aside, does anyone have any other ideas why I may not be able to connect to Sprint?
-Nick
It could always be a hardware issue but it sounds like the phone is not getting provisioned to work on Sprint. Can you verify SprintDM.apk is installed? You will likely need to install a third party app such as system app safe remover from Play store.

Brightpoint sells both cdma & gsm LG phones and are distributors nowadays who sell to other carriers.
The bands on the phone are locked and not capable of being used unless you unlock them via qpst or cdma workshop.
But these firmwares provided have them directly locked in the kernel.

So if a Brightpoint ULM model was flashed with GFI ULM kdz why should it be GSM only unless they are different hardware version like TM? ULM hardware devices should support CDMA LTE bands.

Snapdragon 845 no matter what phone will come with the same qualcomm modem as no manufacturer/carrier will take the extra cost to modify design.
But since the bands are locked via nvram, its upto the manufacturer and/or the distributer that loads the software to choose what will be locked or unlocked.
Bands can be locked via android kernel, but operators do nvram to protect phones from being used out of what they need or want.
I'm curious as to what doesn't work when you purchase an unlocked version vs Tmobile branded? Im told you may have issues with wifi calling/rcs/video calling/and visual voice mail....
2. How easy would it be once you get the unlocked version to flash the carrier software to make everything work and then flash back to original if needed to be for resale or warranty
The reason im asking is that samsung is giving a bigger refund on the unlocked version...

Note 9 was able to do this and I did it. I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be able o do it in Note 10+ once carrier firmware become available to be downloaded.
I pre-ordered the unlocked version myself and I have AT&T so it should be as easy as waiting for the carrier firmwares to become available on SamMobile and flashing with Odin. My interest is now with DeX supported with microsoft if Odin is even neccessary to flash firmwares anymore?
from what i can see on sprint i think they are using the qualcomm chip, i could be wrong, its labeled as SDM 855 Octa-Core SDR8150 and when searching that in google qualcomm documentation on the 855 pops up
Very curious about this myself. I preordered the unlocked version because that gave me more value for my trade in. I'm curious if I get the unlocked version and flash TMobile carrier software. Will I then get tmobile updates ota?
It's been the same for years now, hardware wise phones are the same, you'll need princey odin to flash unlocked/carrier firmwares. I buy unlocked and flash the carrier unlocked firmware. No bloat but it has the carrier specific radio. I prefer the native caller Id, no bloat, and the RTT over the carrier bloat and video calling. Google duo is better anyway

Are you TMO or ATT? I have accounts with both.
I know WiFi Calling, which is what I really need as far as carrier goes, is usually more difficult with ATT.
If you are TMO can you get WFC to work without flashing carrier?
How long do you usually have to wait for the carrier firmware to come out?

When I inserted my SIM it appeared to automatically install the T-Mo firmware, but that's the problem.; it forces me to use the T-Mo VM (which absolutely sucks) and not able to use the Samsung VM which is pretty nice. I can't see a way to get back to the stock VM unless I'm missing something...

I go into the phone app call or SIM settings and find the call forwarding settings:
Then I do they conditional forwarding to my Google Voice number (I then, after setting up Google Voice, turn on Do Not Disturb for Google Voice, so I don't get there phone ringing twice)
Then GV serves as my VM

^^ What he said. Do not make the mistakes I, and many others made in the past - do NOT buy a US version from T-Mo, or from Samsung USA website, unlocked or otherwise. All USA versions are snapdragon based, and will have permanently locked bootloader - no rom flashing of any kind, no custom recoveries or improved radios. What you need is SM-N975F/DS Exynos version (unless you use CDMA carrier like Verizon or Sprint). It will have the same bands supported as Snapdragon one, with the exception of band 71, which you dont really need. T-Mo's B12 serves the same function as B71 (extended range LTE), and T-Mo made the tech available only in limited number of cities anyway. In all likelihood, by the time they roll it out in your city - you're gonna be thinking about buying Note 12 or 13.
Don't worry about software features like voice calling or any other - with all the custom roms and development available for Exynos version you'll be able to find yourself a rom that has any features you like and then some.

This is great advice ..... IF ..... you are looking to root and/ or do custom ROMs. But having done every release S9+/Note9/S10+ with Exynos it's NOT always that easy to get the CSC stuff right and working (and the development is often done by people who could care less about NA CSC because they don't live there).
Root / Unlocked bootloader = the Exynos device, like you said.
So what appears to be the answer (for the thread, assuming no root) after looking at all the answers in this and a couple of other threads is that the Unlocked US Samsung device is the same (or can, in worst case scenario, by Odin flashing carrier firmware, be made to do) device functionally as the carrier devices --- calling features, etc.
For me, the difference was going to be $300 bigger discount.

Don't worry about software features like voice calling or any other - with all the custom roms and development available for Exynos version you'll be able to find yourself a rom that has any features you like and then some.

That's only true if you want to unlock the bootloader and root. The OP was merely asking about flashing carrier firmware on the US Unlocked version, which does not require root or an unlocked bootloader.

For me, the difference was going to be $300 bigger discount.

the bigger trade in value was a deciding factor as well for me...Well we weill see how it goes on the 23rd
I want to be able to root and flash TWRP on my Note 10+, but when i did this on my Note 8 i bought the N950N which was the korean exynos version and CRC support for t-mobile sucked ass, i want to make sure
A) what model do i buy for
- Rooting and stuff
- and best t-mobile network compatibility without going through all the dumb stuff

Same here. When Samsung stopped hobbling the OS, and added more features I didn't need root anymore. The extra $300 was my deciding factor. I have the unlocked Note 9. The only thing I have noticed aside from slower updates is that the camera sound can't be turned off independent of the global phone sound. Everything else works fine and I haven't noticed anything useful missing.

I was actually giving advice to all folk, considering purchasing, not just the OP....Also, just curious - how do you Samsung's locked bootloader on the unlocked Note (I hope you know 'unlocked' means SIM unlocked only) will accept firmware, signed by T-Mobile? It's not a given Samsung original bootloader, untainted by carrier branded modifications, accepts carrier signed ROMs. You may need to be using T-Mobile version of the bootloader, for it to accept T-Mobile signed images.
Does anyone know how the new unlocked devices handle carriers like ATT for calling features, like WiFi Calling? The Pixel works as long as your account is activated for WFC
If not, will you be able to flash carrier former on an unlocked device to get features working?
I don't know how that works with ATT - I know that my G975F does not get those calling features - but considering the unlocked Pixel Does get Wifi Calling and and Enhanced LTE on ATT, it is possible that an Unlocked Samsung Phone will too. (if it were a tmobile phone, it would not get WIfi Calling on ATT - but I honestly think the Unlocked Samsung Might) Good Luck.

Wasn't sure ..... It was strange in that ordering the unlocked from Samsung have 600 credit for a Note 9 , but only 300 for an ATT ???
I have accounts with ATT and TMO ..... So I thought I know unlocked might be best
But I don't want to end up with no calling features on either
Worst case i would assume you could Odin the att files on the unlocked version to enable it. That's how it's been the last few years anyway with Samsung devices(snapdragons). I know that those features work on the unlocked with t mobile.
On T-Mobile I get WiFi calling and volte with my old Note 9 and current S10+. Never had an issue. The only thing you do t get is that aggregate LTE capability. But I don't really notice a difference in speeds. Not sure how it works with ATT.

I can tell you that the Unlocked S10+ does NOT get WiFi Calling or VoLTE on AT&T.
S10+ here on T-Mobile all is solid with unlocked.. I expect the same on N10+

Did you try any of the "tricks"? Like Odin flashing carrier firmware or making sure that ATT had your IMEI in their database or even putting an ATT device IMEI in your account settings?
Because if you do nothing and expect WiFi calling on a non ATT device it will never work
I have the unlocked Note 10+ on T-Mobile and have all of my carrier features except native video calling/rcs.
about N975U1 firmware
-ATT CSC : no features
-TMC CSC ( Tmobile )

Odin flash carrier firmware. I'd rather just buy the AT&T version and not have to go through the trouble.
Yes, AT&T has my IMEI in their database. I even gave them one from my AT&T branded S9+, but that trick doesn't work anymore. They read the IMEI directly out of the device at some point when it connects to their network.
I called support and asked them to verify that I had WiFi calling and VoLTE provisioned, but then when they saw the IMEI was from an unlocked S10+, they told me it wasn't supported.
I did everything I could short of flashing the carrier firmware, which I didn't want to do because I was considering switching back to Verizon. BTW, WiFi calling and VoLTE works fine on Verizon with an unlocked Samsung S9 or S10 without having to flash anything! It's AT&T that's being difficult.
What Guyd said. I called At&t to see if they coould provision a device. The young lady I spoke with gave a list of like 5 devices they can provision. I then asked about the unlocked firmware and they do not support unlocked firmware for advanced messaging..wifi calling..or volte

For sure, with some of my prior devices unlocked firmware or even custom ROMs would not allow for ATT to be successful with WFC. It takes an IMEI ,(that's from an ATT branded device that does WiFi calling in your billing account) ..... AND ..... The correct CSC stuff ...... AND ...... a couple of files that are used by the system with ATT WFC.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a had all that was needed, even though unlocked, to work with ATT and obtain WFC as long as you had correct info on ATTs end with an IMEI that allowed for WFC on their Network.
Btw in my experience I never had any issues with another IMEI being maintained in my billing account but admittedly it was easier for me to change IMEI because I could do it myself with my business account portal.
But some prior devices like the Note 9 and S9 and 10 required other stuff including files to make things to work.
My original question was a hopeful one that the newer device Note 10 (unlocked) possibly had everything it needed ( at least on the phone's end to make things work, like the Pixels do).
Btw. In my experience, asking level 1 or even 2 ATT tech support is utterly useless with things like this.
They don't " support" anything that isn't in their cookbooks that they read from during a tech support call!!!!!
All that said, my guess is that we may have to flash carrier firmware with Odin to get calling features with ATT but I also guess that TMobile will work out of the box, as I believe some have confirmed already

What is aggregate LTE?

@aznmode .
google is your friend : ask for ATT Carrier Agregation
it's the association of multiple frequencies for better Peak data rate in LT-Advanced

I searched for aggregate LTE and I was confused when it showed "carrier" integration and I assume carrier meant providers. But I get it now. Thanks for the reply.

Has there ever been an attempt to sue AT&T since they force you to buy from them...and disable phone's features that you pay for but can't use due to having an unlocked phone?

No
1. They DON'T force you to buy from them. You can buy just about any unlocked device and use it on ATT. For example the Google Pixel or any of the Samsung Galaxy phones.
2. They haven't disabled anything on your phone. But they have a right to determine which phone features will work on their Network. Unless you are paying a separate fee for WiFi calling or VoLTE, then they aren't disabling anything that your paying for. They simply require you to use an ATT branded device to access certain free features.
Does it suck that you have to have an ATT branded device? Sure. Is it illegal. Absolutely not.
By the way, ALL the carriers do this to an extent. Sprint won't hardly activate a phone on their Network that isn't a Sprint branded device. I think they've eased those restrictions, but just a couple years ago with the Note 8, they had a very strict list of BYOD devices.
WiFi calling and VoLTE works on T-Mobile with an unlocked device, but RCA messaging and video calling from the stock dialer does not.
I'm not sure about Verizon, but I believe not all of their features work with the unbranded firmware either.
I flashed my unlocked Note 10 Plus to the ATT U firmware. I am using ATT prepaid. Right now ATT wifi calling doesn't work with Note 10 Plus but it does work for S10 Plus (and previous models). I am pretty sure this is because the Note 10 is still very new and their system needs some update. I will wait a couple weeks and see what happens.
