Anyway to get Standard USB mass storage mode on a 855? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I left XDA for a while so forgive me of this already a while. Basically I'm looking to plug my g3 into the tv or Bluray player. Currently it reads MTP however it just times out the connection and doesn't do anything. So I'm looking for mass storage mode. Is there anyway to do this on kit kat on a 855? Just running rooted stock.

[Q] USB playback with a Honda CR-V?

My wife's got a fancy CR-V has a USB connector to allow you to play music via USB. Works fine with the iPhone, but when I connect my Nexus I keep getting unsupported USB. I've tried all the different modes for the USB connection. The manual doesn't say that it only works with an iPhone so I was hoping there is a way around it Anyone have any suggestions?
Thats because SGN doesn't support USB mass storage mode due to it lacking a separate SD card.
Might want to check if crv supports Bluetooth audio.

Galaxy S III and Car USB Stereo

Anyone know how to make songs play through USB on a car stereo? I had no problem doing this with my Galaxy S II, but I don't think the GSIII supports USB Mass Storage which would be the issue? Any suggestions?
It works; I connected my SGIII via USB to my Headunit; switched to AUX, and the files loaded up. I can only change and see the music selection through the headunit, however; where are your files located? Make sure that they are running from the Microsd Card, and NOT from the "MUSIC" folder in the Internal Memory. Hope that his helps!

It can work but you have to Root and install SGS3
easy UMS and switch to Mass Storage mode before you connect.

Can you elaborate on this a little? I don't quite follow. I did read a method by installing an app from the play store but as the other guy said it requires root to enable usb mass storage. Was kind of hoping I didn't have to go that route.
I tried plugging in via USB on my new Hyundai ix35, but all I got was "Reading Error". I haven't tried the easy UMS on the car yet, but I'm not really hopeful, since it doesn't work with my windows computer.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec; and what I did was connect the USB to the phone. On the phone, make sure that your music is on the MicroSDCARD (I labeled mine MUSIC) Hit the "AUX" button; the head unit will start to read your phone. It will load up all of the songs on the Microsd Card; all of the song titles and Individual Folders Show up just fine. I DID NOT HAVE TO ROOT to make this happen; the trick is to not save the music on the Internal Memory (labeled SD CARD), but to the MICROSD CARD (labeled Ext SD CARD) No Problems.....If I can answer any additional questions, let me know.
Cheers.

I'm happy to test this on an Alpine head unit before I move over to CM9, then test again on CM9. Work finishes in about 2 hours so it won't be until then though.
Dallas did it work for you? Thanks
Greatly helpful thread! Thanks! I do have an additional question though... I tried to hook up my GSIII to my Genesis using the USB cable to listen to online radio while driving... but that didn't work... Using an audio cable is OK but somehow the quality is not there (I tried increasing the volume of my GS III all the way and I still had to increase the volume on my stereo quite a bit before I could get decent sound). I came from an iPhone where I could connect using the proprietary USB and charge and listen to online radio at the same time... So I am hoping I can find the same thing for my GS III. Any help will be highly appreciated...
Summary: Is there a way to get audio out of the USB cable to my car while also charging my Galaxy S III?

I'm continuing to search for a way to listen to music via USB with my GS3 in my 2014 accord. I'm rooted running a 4.3 based touchwiz rom.
Has anyone found a solution?

[Q] HELP: any way to enable the mass storage mode on the galaxy note 2 ?

can any one help me and suggest a method to enable the mass storage mode in my note 2 , when connected to my laptop ?
Firstly why? MTP is better when you get it working as you don' t need to unmount anything from the phone first!
Secondly, it is likely to be possible yes probably very similar to how it was hacked to work on the s3, however it only worked for external sd and caused lots of corruptions to sd cards... so it is far from perfect.
My advice would be to get used to MTP.
i was need it to let my stereo car read mp3 files i solved by installing an s3 hack that can make the extsd a mass storage unit take a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 it worked for me i'm with omega v4 rom

I understand what you mean but. ..it becomes virtually impossible and frustrating to transfer stuff to internal memory or even external memory because it is slow. ..Very slow
External memory I can manage by taking out my card and using an adapter to plug it into my laptop card slot..
Is there a way to mount internal memory as usb mass storage? I don't mind if I have to turn my phone off or something

Did you try Airdroid?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
try Kies over wifi...
it transfer data using local connection and transfers GBs of files in some minutes definitely MUCH faster than MTP and prefer it to AirDroid, but it hasnt been working lately (last time i checked was a week or two back)
This is a problem for those like me using Ubuntu. I never managed to make MTP work on it.
Wi-Fi transfer of files can be done with X-Link, but the lack of mass storage is a nuisance.

Yes, MTP is a big problem on Ubuntu. I have tried 3 implementations of MTP protocol on 12.04 and 12.10, no dice.
i'm searching for an answer. worst thing with mtp is the fact that it hides directories from you! so you can't backup everything properly. annoying
bump! MTP is too/painfully slow. Reminds me of 1995. We need an alternative. Whoever put up this technology without due consideration and testing, before deploying it on these popular devices needs to be consider a different job.
looks like I wont be getting this phone until mass storage mode is added

Unfortunately, there is no way to enable UMS mode without rooting the phone.
I had to find a solution for my car stereo be able to read mp3 files.
I just rooted the phone and install SGS3 easy UMS ( PlayStore ). Yes its working just perfect on NoteII.
I'm using Ubuntu at work and it works like a charm as well.
Don't forget to unmount the drive in Ubuntu before unplug, and stop the service on Windows.
Also, on the UMS app, switch back to MTP before unplug, to avoid files errors ( no problem if u are just reading, ie: car stereo)

Hello,
one question - how to make two-way sync folders between my laptop and SGN2?
I always did it with GoodSync, but now it is impossible...
thx
Haha isn't this a cool icon? ---->
Gah.... I was hoping there was a way to USB mass storage on this phone. I guess I should have done more research on the phone before I bought it. I'm still in my 2 week return it period, but that's not THAT much of a deal breaker. Just really stupid... Why can't I have it all?? I mean we finally got USB host (OTG or whatever; same same) from a stock phone, only to lose USB Mass Storage! Oh the frustrations!
Dramatics aside, will a custom ROM allow something different? I'm not clear on what layer this MTP mode is operating at. I did think it was funny that it popped up as a camera type device in Windows. Right now I'm only using internal flash. Usually I want to browse pics on the phone from the PC, and in this case, if I use IrfanView to open one on the device, it copies it local and then opens it, so I can't scroll through them. Silly, and mildly frustrating. :-/
I'm going to look into some networking options to see if those work (Kies, AirDroid, maybe FTP). Actually, Dropbox might solve this particular problem for me now that I think of it.
I saw the thread for mounting external SD as USB mass storage. I take it there's no way to co-mount the internal storage as a USB mass storage device?

Well, Samsung turned off the USB Mass Storage for obvious reasons. But anyway, I can access both memories from my computers, using MS Windows.
On windows, there's no problem at all as you can manage all the files directly from explorer.
On Other systems, the problem is different. For some reasons, like with all other systems (ie car stereo or media player...), the galaxy will not be recognized because MTP needs drivers. Then, you have to use UMS and the only way to install and use it is to root the phone. But keep in mind UMS will only permit access to external memory card.
Well, if I have to transfer files from internal memory through UMS, I copy the files I need to external memory before using it..... That's not a big problem , is it ? And because your phone is rooted, you can even find a script to copy some folders automatically.
Hope I'm clear enough and it helps.

[Q] Disk mode.. 4.11

Updated my handset to 4.11, and seem to have lost the option of mounting the phone as a disk drive.
Can't see an option anywhere, and am increasingly tiresome of what little music I have on there.
FTR I'm using a ppc powermac with 10.4.11.
All help much appreciated.
do you think usb mass storage?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543735
After JB update there is no option of mass storage or charge only mode. Turn usb debugging on if your mac is not detacting your device.

It was removed in 4.1 on some phones. No way around it. It uses MTP instead now.

[Q] Mass storage device, instead of MTP/PTP?

I have a stock SGH-I747M with Bell Canada. When I plug in my phone into my PC, it shows up as a "phone". When I plugged in my old Atrix into my PC, it showed up as a drive, aka USB Mass Storage Device, and I could do so much more with it. The biggest problem is that I can't use Treesize on the phone. Treesize doesn't know what the hell to do with an MTP or PTP device. I can see why they chose MTP instead of MSD, because you don't have to wait for it to mount/unmount, and both devices can use the storage at the same time. But that just means I'm never going to see the max USB transfer speed.
Is there any way to force it to connect in MSD mode? Or would that require rooting? I still have a 1 year warranty, so I'd rather not root if I don't have to. Yes I know I can unroot if I have to send it back, but what if my phone breaks and becomes so unusable that I cannot unroot?
Saw this http://www.xda-developers.com/android/usb-mass-storage-app-for-recent-samsung-devices/. Not sure if it will work or not.
