[Q] Disk mode.. 4.11 - HTC One X

Updated my handset to 4.11, and seem to have lost the option of mounting the phone as a disk drive.
Can't see an option anywhere, and am increasingly tiresome of what little music I have on there.
FTR I'm using a ppc powermac with 10.4.11.
All help much appreciated.

do you think usb mass storage?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543735

After JB update there is no option of mass storage or charge only mode. Turn usb debugging on if your mac is not detacting your device.

It was removed in 4.1 on some phones. No way around it. It uses MTP instead now.

Mass Media Connection

I'm sorry if this has been posted previously, but just can't find anything on it.
Last night I plugged my phone into a Windows XP pc to copy a friends music over but it wouldn't recognize my device. Long story short, I zipped up the music I wanted and BT'ed it over to my phone.
Is there an intelligent way I can have my Nexus attach to a pc as mass media storage instead of MTP or whatever that other usb connection is?

You're right, this has been asked before. Approx ~1,000,000 times?
No, there's no USB Mass Storage (UMS) available on the Galaxy Nexus. You get MTP and PTP, that's it. This comes out of necessity, as the GNex has 1 internal unpartitioned storage, so parts of it can't be "mounted" completely to a PC.
You're probably going to have issues on a Win XP machine without proper drivers. I've never had issues on Win 7 if I just need to connect and xfer some files (it'll auto-install drivers).
Thank you.

Connect my Hox to Xbox 360.

Hi all ,Don't know if there's a fix or am I doing it wrong.Basically I've got xvid films on my Hox and want to play them through my Xbox360.
I'm getting as far as hooking the Hox to Xbox360 via USB but phones not being recognised. Please help........

i take it you set it to be in mass storage mode?
the hox goes into mtp mode i think - i couldn't get it to work with my tf300, same results that you got.
possibly to do with it mounting it as mtp device rather than just as a basic sd card
Yeah I selected mount as hard drive but no joy.
Do you or anyone have a workaround ?

i've had a quick look just now, this indicates that android should be able to - i haven't tried it since tf300 jb update, so maybe it works on that now.
what you need, is support on the xbox 360 to read the mtp device. supposedly ps3 and xbox both have support for it, but theres a lot of others having troubles with the galaxy nexus (mtp) as well.
you could try using dlna? that would do what you need.. i've used imediashare lite (can't remember if it was on hox though) a while ago with decent results.
or failing the dlna method, you could use a mhl cable to connect it directly to your tv to watch the videos.

The Onex doesn't use mtp mode. It is mounted as a mass storage device so it should be recognisable

Nah the nexus 7 does.
Can clearly tell as with the n7 when plugged in shows as n7 in computer then within that is internal storage
Whereas the Onex once mounted is just listed like any other flash drive
It is weird why you can't get it to work though
I haven't personally tried with the 360 but when I have plugged it into my car head unit and mounted I have been able to navigate the storage and play music accordingly

I've had it work fine with a ps3 mounted in usb storage mode. Not very helpful to you but yeah

[Q] USB Debugging always enabled, lost ability to download files from phone.

Hello people.
At the end of 2012 my wife got OTA upgrade (3 in a row) for her HTC One X.
The upgrade broke seriously the USB support on the phone.
Now the phone will turn USB Debugging when connected to a computer. Even though I disable USB Debugging in the settings! And even when I disable the whole Developers' Section the settings!
When I disable the developers' section the phone asks me to enable the USB Debugging.
Even worse: there is no option to make the phone present itself as USB Hard Drive, and I can't download the pictures and videos from the phone. And since the phone's memory is not removable I'm stuck!
It also seems to not charge while connected to a computer (charges when connected to the supplied charger).
Has anyone observed this?
I've reported the issue to HTC, from where I got just one "We'll escalate the issue..." and then complete silence.
What can I do?
I may be able to pull the contents via ADB, but that's not a solution!
Android Version: 4.1.1
HTC Sense Version: 4+
Software Version: 3.14.401.31
Please advise!
The phones connection mode was changed to MTP with the laast update. Support for usb mass storage was dropped.
You should be able to use MTP if you install htc sync on your pc.

You can still drag and drop with USB Debugging enabled. The One X will show up.

[Q] Mass Storage mode instead of MTP

I have been looking around, but did not found a way to connect my Nexus trough mass storage mode.
On my ICS Xperia P with internal memory there is a nice app that disconnects the MTP mode and connects the mass storage mode. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744878) Trying that on Nexus wont work. Just as this command wont work setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage
Anybody? Or do we really have to live with MTP
MTP is safer b/c you can disconnect anytime you need to which helps avoid database corruption. And this is Jelly bean with a newer kernel so that could be why that app/command isn't functional.
I also would prefer mass storage.. MTP is so slow!

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a mass storage mode any longer.

I miss my Xperia too...
I don't have problem with MTP and its faster also in transferring files. but yes still missing the mass storage on xperia.
It was never able to be done on the Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 so it's incredibly unlikely with the Nexus 4.
MTP is here to stay because it's the only way google sees to keep the system secure.
Downside is MTP sucks for a lot of people, i know my transfer times are anywhere from 2-50 times longer through MTP than Mass Storage. and yes i do mean 50 times longer. I've seen a 5MB file say it's going to take an hour to transfer.
I use Airdroid for pretty much 90% of my transfer needs simply because it's insanely fast compared to MTP. On the Gnex i also used stickmount to just attach a USB drive to the phone and i did some transfers that way.
The Nexus 4 has an ext4 file system. Windows does not understand this, so mass storage is not possible in a useful manner.
But it should be possible to run IP over USB, making a nice 480 Mb/sec FTP or Airdroid connection. The same connection is used for USB tethering.
My Sony-Ericsson c702 feature phone could do that (USB IP and Samba file sharing built in). But some experiments show the IP connection coming up (Linux PC, on the phone Settings -> more -> Tethering -> USB tether) with the PC getting 192.168.42.27. Don't know what the phone IP is yet, as it kept dropping real quick when the PC discovered the MTP protocol... but I thing it is possible.
BTW I use DAVdrive lite instead of Airdroid, as it is a lot more permission-friendly.
Ran a test and got 13 MB/sec out of davdrive, downloading a moveie file from the phone. The trick was to unmount MTP before starting tethering.
I found the IP address of the phone by typing arp -a on my Linux desktop, and downloaded from <ip>:8888 after starting davdrive.

Enable USB mass storage, how?

How can I get this enabled, whether by default setting or custom method.

Have you enabled the Developers Options under settings? When I check USB Debugging and hook the M8 to laptop with a USB cable, it shows up as a mass storage.

It will be shown as mtp device but not usb mass storage...he wants to mount the internal and maybe external sd card as mass storage like you would plug the usb flash drive to pc/laptop...but there is at the moment no way or method/workaround to get it working...but mtp should work on this phone fine so that transferred files shouldn't be corrupted etc

I don't get it, why does Google do this BS?
Simplicity had no value anymore.
Mtp sucks and is slow and buggy.

Why? So the phone and computer can both access the storage at the same time so apps don't FC when you use mass storage. It's been like this for 2 years now so a bit late to be getting angry!
It would be nice if you could have the choice between the two. Sucks I can't hook up to my car's media interface.

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.
People that have problems probably don't have good drivers setup for their phone. I think the last time I had issue with mtp was note2 and I updated my Samsung USB drivers and all was well. Have pretty much done that first thing when I get a new phone now. Never had problems with nexus 4/5, note3, moto x and now HTC m8.

Driver issue ... on desktop side ?
There are MTP issues on phone side, and this is not driver related. On same hardware version, you can find a veriety of stock ROMs, with a veriety of behaviour.
Plus there is a specific case where MTP deeply sux. If you read ads about M8 on HTC.com, you will see ... this phone is wonderfull because it can read UMS devices. Now, use this to connect two M8 together ... nothing happens; because whatever you do (with your OTG cable), M8 will provide MTP, and expect UMS. So, in short, this phone is not even compatible with itself !!!
So, the question is not to know if drivers have been installed correctly on desktop (Windows, Linux, Mac, whatever you like ... BSD, QNX, Solaris, OpenVMS ... just to quote the ones that can boot withint 2m around me ^^ Oh, forgot my Octane; it's 3m away). The fact is that MTP sux; and in many case, UMS is a must have. OTG was one example (wired phone to phone);similar example would be phone to tablet: you need at least one device to perform UMS; if both are MTP only, you are stuck.
Some M8 do UMS with stock ROM, others don't.
In my thread, I gave alternatives for MTP and UMS.
Like I've said my problems have been few. And if I do need to connect phone to phone I prefer WiFi direct or Bluetooth. And I rarely hook my phone up to my laptop anymore. I use WiFi file transfer pro. About the only time I use it it to do my initial load up of 50-70gb+ of FLAC/mp3 more so because my phone won't lose charge while doing the massive transfer overnight. Then as I need to update or sync files I just use wifi file transfer pro to update. I don't see what the big deal is for PC's and such. But I do understand for use cases as car audio, the rare need to do phone to phone transfer because one/both users are less familiar with wireless transfer and I am sure there are more that I can't think of now. You would think somebody could've made an app that merged a file explorer and tricked os into doing ums, at the very least with micro SD cards. Internal would definitely be trickier and probably a lot of phones would be left due to the masses of different phones, skins and frameworks. I dunno. Hasn't been a problem for me at all really.
