[Q] Which method to go back to stock? Please help. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am aware of the threads pertaining to similar questions like mine but I am uncertain of their similarities and most don't provide relevant information that will help me. Here are the current software details for my rooted phone.
Carrier - AT&T
Android Version - 4.4.4
Baseband Version - I747UCUEMJB
Model Number - Samsung-SGH-I747
ROM - Carbon
Carbon Version - Carbon-Quantum-7/25
Recovery - ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
I am planning on getting a new phone within the coming days, most likely a Note 4, I plan on selling this phone and would like it to be stock Touchwiz. I don't remember the Android version I was on when I bought it in Dec 2012 but I'd like it to be exactly like it was then, I'd update it to the latest one on my own, or if that isn't practical then I'd go with the latest "stock" option available to my specifications.
I am currently looking at these two threads but I am unsure if which is the one for me?

Please help me. I'd like to go as "stock" as I can. Thanks!

The first method would be your best bet. Your phone has the mjb bootloader; therefore, none of the stock AT&T firmware from sammobile.com can be flashed to your phone.
You should flash back to stock and run OTA to get the latest KK ROM on your phone.

Software Updating

Hello , XDA community.
I have a T - Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3. Here are the current stats on the device.
Model: SGH-T999
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband: T999xxxx
Kernel: 3.0.8- 1083013
Build: IMM76D.T999
Okay , so here's my problem. My device is rooted. Stock kernel I think. I don't remember doing anything special. Just a root.
Everyday my device gets to notification to update. Everytime I choose to update , the device just reboots and goes into CWM Recovery. I really want my device to just update to JellyBean without having to reset or wipe the device neither unrooting it. Is this possible ?
I hope I was clear enough with all the information.
You won't be able to do an Over The Air update with a custom recovery. Why do you have a custom recovery with a stock rom lol? There are a few roms out there with very stock everything. Or you can use odin to get there... searching will get you where you need. Also, you are about 2 months behind everyone else lol.

Yes I am aware , I only wanted my phone rooted for a few applications. Never cared much about ROMS. Do you care to point me to a fairly decent rom , something that is quick and lag free , yet not to crazy. I am only asking you because you seem to be very updated.
Oh I am, lol. I'll give you something very plain.

scroll down to "SGH-T999 OTA Updates (for use in recovery)" and get the latest "UVALJ4 - UVDLJA"
Hmm FrostyJB in the dev section.

Way to modded, this guy was on stock with root... I gave him stock with root. If he wants to go crazy and install a rom with custom looks, and mods to it (that alot of people like and some dislike),That's on him to research, like in my resource thread.
How to update Android 4.3 on a Galaxy S3 Tmobile SGH-T999L?
Hi there,
I´m new to the forum and I´m just a phone user. I´ve been reading different forums and messages and I think this is the correct one to post my question. If I´m wrong, please recommend me the appropriate forum if you know it . I must add that English is not my mother tongue and that I´m not familiar with terminology like flashing, mod, stock...
Having said that, here you have some background
I bought a Galaxy S3 Tmobile SGH T999L in the US in Jul 2014. I came back to my country, Spain, and as Tmobile doesn´t operate here I had to take it to a shop to unlock it and use with another supplier. The phone works reasonably well, though doesn´t totally benefit from 4G because the range of mobile frequencies used in Spain is different from the one in the US, with only partial coincidence. So it was my mistake to buy it there asuming that it would be 100% compatible here. But that´s not the issue. The issue is this:
I have recently downloaded several apps that informed me that because the O.S. is old (Android 4.3) I can´t benefit from some functionalities of the apps. .So I think I need to update to a higher version.
I have checked Tmobile US webpage where somebody asked the same question in a forum and they told him: "you flash a custome ROM (which we cannot discuss here, go to XDA developers if you are interested". And that´s why I´m here, because I have no idea of what that means, although I guess it might be related to deleting the content of the original ROM - and I suppose the O.S. is stored there- and substituting it by a higher O.S.
Below please find all technical data that I could find about my model, if this helps:
Model SGH-T999L

[Q] SGH T999 and Roms.

I had recently obtained a s3 its a T-mobile, its running 4.1.2, with the T999UVDMD5 baseband. I rooted it, flashed xposed(haha the only thing XD). Well, reading about/friends have said there was trouble with the 4.3 update so I decided to stay on 4.1.2.
However, now I've decided to flash a custom rom, and I have noticed the different labels(D2lte, D2tmo, D2usa) and I had read from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736477 "As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants" .
I have a few questions:
1.There was a baseband update, should I update it? If so, how exactly?
2.Would it be wise to flash a D2lte on This T-mobile device? I was looking at Resurrectionhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692481(originally waiting on cm11 but.. Yeah lol)
3.Looking at KitKat rooms, which ones could I flash?
4.Would it be safe, if I did flash a 4.4.2 to restore a nandroid backup of my fresh rooted stock 4.1.2.
5.Lastly, what kernel would you say use?(Sorry to ask, curiosity as to which i could flash)
I appreciate taking your time to answer my questions and have a good day!
1) custom recovery.. There are zips available to flash
2) d2lte covers all d2 devices so its safe
3)Any on the development threads
4) Yes
5) like on 3, you can flash any kernel in the development threads, experiment and see which one works the best for you!

Thank you! Time to get to work!

To answer your questions:
1. You do not need to update your firmware - I'm still on MD5. Modems, however, can be flashed separately from firmware.
2. You can flash d2lte ROMs on this phone as it's all one unified build for US SGS3 variants. (I.e. T-Mobile/AT&T/Sprint/Verizon SGS3 is now all built under d2lte).
3. As far as which KK ROM to flash...just try them all out and see which ones you like the best. Each ROM has different features - see which one is right for you.
4. If you don't update your firmware, then yes. (FYI, flashing a custom KK ROM does not update your firmware. However, if you flash one of the 4.3 root66 files that has firmware included, then it will update your firmware).
5. Again, try it out. It's hard to say which ROM/kernel combination will work best. I suggest you read the forums to see what people think of them.
Hope that helps.

No problem, and i forgot to say but the only time you might need to update modem is if you flash a 4.3 touchwiz ROM, other than that its not really needed unless you want to experiment and see if one gives you better results

Oh, and one more thing: DO NOT flash a ROM that is for the international version of the SGS3 (i9300). It will, most definitely, brick your phone.
Don't know if you knew that or not...just wanted to make sure.

Prerequisites for installing custom roms - Hardware / Software

I have Hyperdrive installed and the only important prerequisite was it had to be the sm-p600 model which I have but other roms mention firmware base eg xxucnh3, xxcng, xxucn. For my phone (htc one m8) the prerequisites are much stricter and complex eg you have to have the right android version , the right radio, the right model and its variants, the right custom recovery version and type, the right base firmware and then only if you have s-off to change it. One piece of advice I got was that I could only load roms up to the current android version 4.4.3 (Australia) for my phone but not above. They also said that the only way to upgrade to 5.0 was returning to stock using OTA's unless you have s-off and convert your phone. Its this comparison between what's necessary to run my phone's roms and tablet's roms that's got my head spinning.
So my questions ..........
1. Will any rom written for my sm-p600 work regardless of android version, firmware base and country?
2. When lollipop comes out can I simply wait for a rom to be updated and load that or do I need to return to stock and wait for OTAs
1. For your first question any rom for the p600 or p601(3g version) that has an Android version at or higher then 4.3 you can flash safely. Anything below 4.3 you will brick your device, KNOX restriction.
2. No, you cannot take ota updates from Samsung, but you can flash updates from Sammobile.com for any updates for your devices. You are more likely to get android lollipop sooner if you flash a custom rom.

That clears it up, thanks.
I read most of the pages of that thread before I installed my first custom rom. Rooting, roming etc is so much easier on Samsung. I've read 100s of pages on the HTC forums and boy it's way more complicated.

noobie question - after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" version ?

noobie question - after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" version ?
noobie question -
So I finally rooted my phone today because I got sick of looking at all the AT&T Bloatware (and also being unable to update my phone since I use it on t-mobile)
after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" software version ? 4.4.4 please, no lollipop until they fix all the bugs.
Can someone direct me to a step by step process of putting (flashing?) the official HTC software (ROM?)
Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 5.0 is official and fully working on Sprint. I thought that's what the newer Verizon 5.0 Sense custom ROMs were based on. I'm on Verizon so I don't go milling about the Sprint forum, but I'd imagine there'd be a debloated stock or lightly modified ROM out there. If you're just unlocked and not s-off you'd need to flash the boot.img separately, but the ROM thread or a help thread should explain how that works of you're unfamiliar.

Lost Touchwiz Rom. CyanogenMod Not working out for me.

I need help in installing the factory Touchwiz ROM for my Galaxy SIII. I don't know where to get it and I don't know which one I need.
The reason is because CyanogenMod is not working correctly with my FreedomPop (Sprint) network. I can't update PRL or profile. The camera app doesn't work either, because it constantly crashes and I have to reboot the phone. Various other issues, but those stand out as priority. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Here's my phones specs:
Current CM version: 11-20150222-NIGHTLY-d2lte
SPH-L710
Android version: 4.4.4
Baseband version: L710VPUDND8

If you don't have a touchwiz backup, go to the Android development section and download a rom to flash. You can get either the stock or Wicked X roms there. They will let you update PRL and profile.
@ivpre Thanks for the response! Any suggestion which version to get? Would the latest one work? Reason I'm asking is I used to have a Verizon Galaxy SIII and once you took the update, it locked the bootloader. Is this something I should be concerned about?

One you upgrade to a firmware with Knox you can't revert back to one without it. Not a problem for most folks. I currently use ND8 bootloader with NDC modem. I hear NJ2 has a fair performance boost tho.

You are probably good since you were running CM. But to run the latest TouchWiz, you need to be on ND8 or NJ2. If not on either of those, read the stuff below.
MAKE UP A NANDROID BAKCUP OF YOUR CURRENT SET UP
To update to NJ2: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/d...10SPRDNJ2_SPR/
Flash a recovery via ODIN, it is the program you used in the above step: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2201860
There is also TWRP somewhere, but even though Philz isn't being developed, I haven' t had any issues with it. But if you want to recover your previous setup, it is probably best to use the same recovery as before.
The latest WickedX or Wicked S5 should work just fine. If you are unsure of your current firmware, I would just follow the directions above. Then you can flash a rom or root.
