Prerequisites for installing custom roms - Hardware / Software - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I have Hyperdrive installed and the only important prerequisite was it had to be the sm-p600 model which I have but other roms mention firmware base eg xxucnh3, xxcng, xxucn. For my phone (htc one m8) the prerequisites are much stricter and complex eg you have to have the right android version , the right radio, the right model and its variants, the right custom recovery version and type, the right base firmware and then only if you have s-off to change it. One piece of advice I got was that I could only load roms up to the current android version 4.4.3 (Australia) for my phone but not above. They also said that the only way to upgrade to 5.0 was returning to stock using OTA's unless you have s-off and convert your phone. Its this comparison between what's necessary to run my phone's roms and tablet's roms that's got my head spinning.
So my questions ..........
1. Will any rom written for my sm-p600 work regardless of android version, firmware base and country?
2. When lollipop comes out can I simply wait for a rom to be updated and load that or do I need to return to stock and wait for OTAs

1. For your first question any rom for the p600 or p601(3g version) that has an Android version at or higher then 4.3 you can flash safely. Anything below 4.3 you will brick your device, KNOX restriction.
2. No, you cannot take ota updates from Samsung, but you can flash updates from Sammobile.com for any updates for your devices. You are more likely to get android lollipop sooner if you flash a custom rom.

That clears it up, thanks.
I read most of the pages of that thread before I installed my first custom rom. Rooting, roming etc is so much easier on Samsung. I've read 100s of pages on the HTC forums and boy it's way more complicated.

firmware att m8

Hi I need help to flash the new firmware on my att m8 to run the new roms I am soff and boot loader unlocked but don't have super cid
2.23 is the latest. Its included on the following ROM. You have to download the whole ROM to get it from this thread, but it has great instructions for those not familiar with the process. Not sure if anyone has posted the 2.23 firmware by itself.

Are you actually using AT&T as your carrier? If so, you probably don't want to flash the 3.x firmware. It includes the radio for the international version, which on past firmwares, were known to not play well with AT&T.
I'd wait until an AT&T specific firmware package is available; which won't happen until AT&T releases 4.4.4 or at least the Dev Edition rolls out.
When you say "new ROMs" I think you mean "ROM" as I believe Maximus is the only custom Sense ROM so far to rebase to 4.4.4 (although I'm sure others won't be far behind).
If I super cid will I be able to do this ?
What if you remove the radio.img file from the firmware zip? Or replace it with the one from latest ATT firmware?

[Q] Which method to go back to stock? Please help.

I am aware of the threads pertaining to similar questions like mine but I am uncertain of their similarities and most don't provide relevant information that will help me. Here are the current software details for my rooted phone.
Carrier - AT&T
Android Version - 4.4.4
Baseband Version - I747UCUEMJB
Model Number - Samsung-SGH-I747
ROM - Carbon
Carbon Version - Carbon-Quantum-7/25
Recovery - ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3
I am planning on getting a new phone within the coming days, most likely a Note 4, I plan on selling this phone and would like it to be stock Touchwiz. I don't remember the Android version I was on when I bought it in Dec 2012 but I'd like it to be exactly like it was then, I'd update it to the latest one on my own, or if that isn't practical then I'd go with the latest "stock" option available to my specifications.
I am currently looking at these two threads but I am unsure if which is the one for me?

Please help me. I'd like to go as "stock" as I can. Thanks!
The first method would be your best bet. Your phone has the mjb bootloader; therefore, none of the stock AT&T firmware from sammobile.com can be flashed to your phone.
You should flash back to stock and run OTA to get the latest KK ROM on your phone.

Updating Firmware for Lollipop ROM?

Hello! I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to updating firmware and I've heard that it's really easy to brick your device if you screw it up so I want to ask some questions before I dive in.
From what i've gathered, this is the right place to get the latest firmware and flashing instructions. Do I need to flash the full firmware if I'm not planning on using a stock/Sense ROM? Would it matter either way?
I'm on CM 10.2 now and was thinking about checking out the latest CM 12 nightly or maybe one of the Lollipop GPE ROMs. I don't think I'll be going to a Sense ROM.
P.S. I've had this phone since August 2013 and have never updates the firmware.

HTC has not released a lollipop version of the stock ROM yet, so there is technically no "lollipop firmware" yet. With the most recent firmware which accompanied the 4.4.3 OTA version, you can still run a lollipop ROM but it seems like a lot of people experience errors with them. Maybe it has more to do with bugs in 5.0.x since lollipop has not been out that long yet rather than outdated firmware, i really don't know. But I am on the most recent firmware and had the now infamous "can't send more than 1 SMS per boot" problem, so I rolled back to stock after a week or two. Either way, you are very, very out of date with your firmware. The level of risk associated with updating it probably isn't as high as you have been lead to think. Just follow the commands in the thread you posted exactly. I have done it many times and my phone has never been bricked.
As for your question as to whether or not it matter if you are not using stock or Sense, yes it still does. AOSP ROMs like CM or GPE still are designed to work with the phone's firmware. CM11 or 12 is intended to work with whatever firmware is out by the time the ROM is being compiled.

noobie question - after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" version ?

noobie question - after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" version ?
noobie question -
So I finally rooted my phone today because I got sick of looking at all the AT&T Bloatware (and also being unable to update my phone since I use it on t-mobile)
after rooting, how do i get the latest "unbloated" software version ? 4.4.4 please, no lollipop until they fix all the bugs.
Can someone direct me to a step by step process of putting (flashing?) the official HTC software (ROM?)
Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 5.0 is official and fully working on Sprint. I thought that's what the newer Verizon 5.0 Sense custom ROMs were based on. I'm on Verizon so I don't go milling about the Sprint forum, but I'd imagine there'd be a debloated stock or lightly modified ROM out there. If you're just unlocked and not s-off you'd need to flash the boot.img separately, but the ROM thread or a help thread should explain how that works of you're unfamiliar.

[Q] Some newbie questions

I have been an owner of a P6 for little over a year now and had been very satisfied,I am for the last year mostly with the B132 firmware except a month during the launch of KK(international) that i found was overheating my phone a bit more compared to B132 and i rolled back to it(b132).With android moving to Lolipop and forward it might be the time to upgrade but it seems a bit complicated and i would like some help with some answers.
1)The latest firmware is 4.4.2?Did any further updates happen as to performance/heat/battery consuption?
2)Having skimmed through pages i found the update process too complicated and was puzzled about the following
a-Does the phone need to be to the CN versions of the firmware to upgrade to custom roms?
b-Is there a there a schematic of the possible update paths?
c-Does updating to the next version of the official Huawei firmware wipe the phone clean?
3)If you install a custom recovery and then backup your data install a custom rom or upgrade to another version if you reload your though a custom recovery would it restore it to its original state?
4)From user experience which of the custom roms is the most lightweight and stable one?
5)Is there any custom roms that can be applied to a 4.2.2 version?
Sorry for the long post I thought it best to keep all my questions to 1 thread rather creating small threads over time.
While some questions may seem badly worded or mandatory knowledge for any android user visiting these forums,i would greatly appreciated any answers so i can avoid any misshaps. Not all questions must be answered but any help will do

1. Yes the latest official chinese and international updates are 4.4.2 (B708 chinese and B520 international)
2.a Chinese firmwares were needed before kitkat to unlock the bootloader in order to be able to flash anything custom on the phone, but now there is a command in fastboot (bootloader mode) that you can use for the same result.
2.b There are alot of schemes about updating to wanted firmware on the forum if you choose to search a little bit.
2.c Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.
3. It will restore the rom to original state but it will leave the custom recovery on.
4. All subject of personal experience.
5. Yes search the forum for jb roms.
